A place to share books, stories, and assorted writefaggotry.

All writing is welcome, even if it's only tangentially related to /k/.

Give thanks to Polybus and Archivefag for keeping /wfg/ afloat.
It's been unscientifically proven that a lack of (you)s for writers can lead depression, alcoholism, story abandonment, and an hero.

But it's so easy to make a difference in a writer's life. Just one (you) a day can make the difference between a happy writer and a writer on permanent hiatus.

Please, post now. Help make a writer's day.

"Probably the best Idea I can think of, we're at about what will be the edge of their search area in something like twelve hours." I concurred, creaking from every joint as I shambled to my feet.
>Inside two more hours of hiking Ekatarina and I had managed to reach the summit, enjoy a few intimate minutes together as we took a quick break from hiking to look over the landscape, and began our search to the east for what would be a good concealed camp site.
>"So, McCaysville? That somewhere they told you to flee to if you got lost?"
"No, I just noted it one day, must've been my twelfth search party, when I volunteered to fly the helicopter so those fucking idiots wouldn't crash it and get ANOTHER search party our there." I explained.
>"You look like you've got something in the back of your mind. Some other issue coming to you, or is the last several days enough?" Ekatarina prodded playfully.
"You're awfully flippant for someone trapped in the forest with me." I answered, a burst of levity being just the right dose in the moment.
>"I'm not stranded here with you, you're stranded here with me." She answered, allowing a heavy Russian accent to slide out as she uttered the second half of the sentence, her voice dropping significantly between words.
"If THAT'S how it is I'd ask you to wait a day so they don't hear my joints clicking."
>"Helicopter crashes have a way of aging people. So what were you thinking about?"
"What our course of action would be when we got to town, how would we get back to Kentucky? Seemed a bigger problem for a minute."
>"You need not worry about that. We can worry about the task at hand for now. Finding us a spot to sleep before the sun sets in a couple hours."
>>
>>32973971
"Why before then? How about we go until the valley starts to get dark."
>"We were fine last night when you were unconscious and I was asleep under a shelter half."
"You mean when the death patrol wasn't POSSIBLY looking for us? I was unconscious since the crash up to about five this morning. I'll take the first watch on the hide site."
>"No you won't." She answered
"Oh yeah? There a reason for that?"
>"Because you're going to be snuggling with me in the shelter and out of sight of thermal sensors that might be on any passing helicopters."
"That's a pretty good reason."
>"Glad you think so, what time is it?"
"Four thirty-seven in the afternoon."
>"lets keep going and stop at five. We can set up the shelter, eat, look at the stars, and we can go to bed, start out when the sun crests the hills."
>We marched on, putting what I figured had to be at least two miles between us and the mountain. Ekatarina and I stopped in a small depression in the side of a canyon to set up the shelter, where I finally began to realize a couple things about my situation. First was that something, or rather someone was in urgent need of investigation, and second, was that I didn't know her last name.
"Hey, Katyusha, come here!"
>She came to me as I sat down on a rock protruding a couple feet from the steep ground.
>"What do you need?"
"Come sit on my lap, I need to take a look at you."
>"Here? I love you but is this really the place to get frisk-"
"Not that kind of look, now come sit on my lap."
>The geist obeyed, sitting on one of my thighs and looking at anything in the forest that might have moved an inch as I unbuttoned her overshirt and removed her undershirt, revealing a bare set of shoulders, chest, stomach, set of flanks, and back, sporting two C-cup breasts and an extensive set of scratch marks on her skin and bruises likely caused by the crash.
>>
>>32973986
>"Is this the place to do this?" Ekatarina protested as I thoroughly inspected her left arm, using her right arm to cover an exposed pair of pink nipples.
"Yes. Now turn around so I can check your other flank."
>The geist obeyed as I raised her right arm in my hands, rotated it in my hands, and gave it a good once over, paying attention to inspect her right flank.
"Does anything on your upper body ache?"
>"No aches, but I can feel the scrapes." She answered from behind her now red cheeks. "How do I look?"
"Appetizing, but you're also covered in scratches and scrapes, and I haven't even gotten to your legs yet. I imagine your gun form will need to be refinished." I answered, making sure to give her left breast a couple light squeezes as I gave over her undershirt before buttoning on her overshirt.
>"That's not how it works with geists, remember? You've been through it, have you not? Damage to the human form doesn't manifest on the rifle, but damage to the rifle manifests to the human." She answered as though I should know this.
"Tell me, Katyusha, do you remember how the finish was on that R-1 rifle that day after we came from the zone?"
>"The joints were tight, there was one notable scratch on the pistol grip, what's the point?"
>I willed into existence the rifle in question, joints worn loose to a noticeable wobble, receiver, hand guard and grip scratched to the point that they practically made up a camouflage pattern of their own. "Бoжe мoй!" She said, gently taking and inspecting the stricken rifle.
"Maybe the rifle is bound to the human form since I ascended, but this seems to happen every time I get injured and summon it. The damage goes away as I heal up." I answered, amending "I guess I never really had damage as a rifle, at least, none that I can remember. I did get refinished once, though I never changed between the finish getting messed up and redone."

>"Michael, are you in pain?" She asked with what even I could easily discern as being genuine concern.
"It's a weird kind of pain. it's the kind of pain you know won't stop so you just get tired of feeling it and tune it out. I feel it, but I just don't care that I'm feeling it."
>"Maybe I should be inspecting you. It seems like YOU'RE the one that could use some maintenance and attention." She said, quickly reversing the roles and taking my shirt off, clearly aghast at what had to have been a fair number a scratches, scrapes and bruises littering my body.
>"Does anything ache?" She asked sarcastically, expecting to be met with levity.
"I got no energy for aching. It's gonna be dark soon, and we gotta make a shelter, but before we do anything like that, it occurred to me that even though we've been at this for a month or two, I don't know your name."
>"My dear Mikhail, what do you mean? It's Ekatarina, you've been calling me by it the whole time." She said as she unpacked survival gear.
"Not your first name. Your last."
>"Last name?"
"You know, like mine is Berdan, the president's is Trump, Sarah Keel rotting in a body bag by now, anything like that?"
>"I've never though about it this much. I don't suppose I've ever had one really. I think if you want to think of me as having a maiden name, let it be Vintorez." She answered with consternation written on her face, clearly now pondering why it was that geists never seemed to have those names.
>"You didn't have a last name either?"
"Suppose a rifle coming out of a factory in South Africa in the seventies didn't need a last name when they didn't even give me a serial number, proof marks or inspection stamps."
>"How did quality control work?"
"I think they just cut defective parts up on the spot."

>"So... When did you get your first... eh, sir name?"
"I had to get into the states in the early eighties. So I adopted the name of the last person who I was issued to as a way to forge the paperwork and become an official citizen. So I lived in the states for about fourteen or fifteen years as Kyle Stafford before I woke up one day in ninety-eight as Michael Berdan, with a set of parents and relatives."
>"Tell me if this hurts." She said, prodding a bruise with her finger, snapping me back to the fact that she was looking me over for serious injuries.
"Not too much. About as sore as you'd expect from a bruise."
>She started prodding at various injuries on my body, eventually satisfied that she'd failed to find anything critically injured.
>"I never thought sunset would be such a menacing sight." She said, glancing off into the hill before giving me a kiss on the forehead and buttoning on my field shirt. "Maybe when we're done here..." She trailed off
"It'll get better. For now? We wait."
>>
>>32974002
Honestly, it'd be better if every writer managed their own bins. You'd be able to edit it freely, organize it cleanly, and it would be much easier for the archivers to sort it and just post a link and description and the like on a main bin, rather than making hundreds of unsorted stories on a single bin or hosting a bunch of assorted stories in multiple bins on a single page. Relying on a Mexican who has trouble keeping up and a lazy white guy with offset nipples to catch every post and record them in order everyday is kind of asking for stuff to get misplaced, mislabeled, and missed completely. Not to mention if you're an anon poster, some stories may just never get in the right spot because of difficulty organizing anonymous writers.

As far as the next update, I can't (and probably shouldn't) give a hard release date, as my life can be a bit busy... What I can say though is that the time frame should be "days" instead of "weeks" like it was between the last updates, since I am no longer wrestling with writers block.

I realized that I never have shown my Mossberg 500 and inspiration for Shelly. Hopefully this pic will make my clothing choice for her more clear (khaki short shorts and a black tank top).

DO WANT. Also, is anyone particularly in desire for a chapter 13 of Loud And Silent? I'm writing it, but I'd like to Gauge interest. There's usually a hit or two that weren't mine but I'm thinking maybe I should hit the pause button and start up a new story at some point to break it up.

>Silent, Deep, and at night~
Congrats, you inspired my placement of the lewd. and how it goes. *wink*

Chapter 13: From The Ether/The Clear Sky.
>The rotor blades chop the air in the midst of night, waking Ekatarina and I from our slumber, her head raising itself from its slackened position resting on my shoulder. It grows louder and sends a mild bass through the ground, our bodies and our shelter.
>"Just die down already. Go away!" She exclaims meekly, sliding her arms and legs under me, wrapping around and hooking onto my back as they roll me to my side and clutch down.
"Shh, young soldier. Don't be afraid, I'm here"
>As the rotors come to a steady hum, beating the ground, Ekatarina buries her head in my chest, clutching her arms down on my ribcage hard enough to compress it, her hands clamping down on my field shirt, legs hooked around my thighs and heavily contracted. I rest my head on hers and wrap my arms around her, holding her tight.
"Shh, my young soldier. Don't be afraid, I'm here." I say in a hushed tone.
>The rotor chops in the air fade into the distance with an occasional stutter of staccato bursts that followed a general purpose machine gun. Streaming, fading into the distance. Minutes pass before Ekatarina finally releases her grasp on me.
"Are you alright, sweetie?"
>"Yeah. I'm uh, I'm fine." She says as she pulls her arms away and shakes her limp hands, having evidently white knuckled my back.
"What fucking time is it?"
>"11:28. You know, Mikhail... I wonder if here's a good spot."
>>
>>32979336
"I know what you're thinking. It would be cold, maybe the friction could keep us warm while we do it. Be a cold night after."
>"All the more reason to cuddle afterword, dorogoy." Ekatarina says as she begins to unbutton my field shirt.
"You know alllll my weaknesses don't you?" I say, planting a kiss on her before going to work on her field shirt.
"Oh, Mikhail, I won't take no for an answer." She says, shedding her undershirt and pulling mine off before going for my pants.
>In seconds we collapse into a thrusting, writhing heap of lust, pants pushed to the knees and locked together at the hips, occasionally kissing to silence Katyusha's moans.
>Eventually Katyusha pulls my head to hers and locks lips with me to muffle a scream as I make a few final thrusts before we go slack and disengage our hips before cuddling up and drifting to sleep.

Pretty good update. A lot of stuff happened, but that's fine. It seems like all this little shit is slowly building up, gathering just a little more shit as it rolls down shit mountain. Then, all the little shit balls will collide with each other, becoming a gigantic shit ball, with Simon in the middle. Also, seems like there ain't nobody right in that city. I'm sure there is, but the closest we've seen so far is Simon.

I think this may be the best thread to talk about this.
I'm the anon who got to work on a children's show about tactical shit, The Adventures of Tactical Terry.
Here is some updates on the work so far:
Learning to animate for this would prove too much of a time investment, something that I don't have at my disposal at this point in time; I will do my best to turn the series into a comic strip that I would post periodically here on /k/. I've been thinking about setting up a separate site, but I think some themes and characters may attract unwanted attentions, so it will probably remain one of /k/'s own comic strips.

Furthermore, I am meditating about changing the title of the series to "Tactical Friends" due to the large number of ideas that I got and the number of suggested characters that could take the lead episode by episode. Other than that, I finalized the script for the first issue and I got to work on the cover (pic related). in the upper left corner will be the series title and in the lower right will be the title of the issue itself ("Terry's Terrible Trigger Discipline"). For the lettering, I just need to find someone or someplace that would let me digitalize an A3 format, to work on a bit of post-production on my PC.
The pics I'm posting are part of the WIP for the cover "art"

What I still need to decide is whether to keep the work in black and white, leaving coloured pictures for covers or first pages or whatever special occasion, or to suck it up and do everything in colour. It would make everything a bit more labour-intensive, but I think it could be really worth it to keep the Winnie the Pooh aesthetic.

Here is the situation so far. Thoughts, ideas, comments, critique?

[this time. This time for sure]

>Good. So, back in the first world war, tanks were used in combat for the first time. You know by whom, right?
“The British?”
>Exactly. First use was in a part of the battle of Somme, with just a few Mark I tanks. Now this showed a few things. First of all, having a machine as good an invulnerable to enemy gunfire was hugely advantageous. It caused not only destruction and enemy corpses, but almost as important as the actual combat worth was the fear it caused

Lily sips a little from her coffee, eyes glowing with energy despite the early hour

>You must understand that most people who fought in the trenches was born in the 1890s and had never seen a large machine, or a machine at all outside a factory. And then, when suddenly a 28 ton behemoth comes crawling towards them and spits death and destruction with machineguns and cannons, and their rifles does nothing to it… many decided it was better to run
“I feel a “but” coming up”
>Yes. It was truly horrible to face a tank as an infantryman, but it was almost as awful inside. It was extremely noisy, dark and lots of fumes from the engine that usually led to carbon monoxide poisoning. Not to mention it was easy to get sick inside, despite the fact that they only moved at 6 km/h, because these tanks completely lacked suspension. And the armor plates was riveted, which meant these rivets would fly around inside the tank if they was shot from the outside. Which they of course would, because they attracted a lot of attention.

“I heard it was bad, but that sounds… well, i’m not gonna complain about the Jagdtiger again at least”

Lily giggles a little.
>>
>Everyone can complain a little bit. Anyway, these tanks were unreliable too, and could not go many kilometers before something broke down. Most common was the tracks, that were normally used on machines much lighter than the Mark I. And since there was no way to tow these things, in rough terrain they could only move if they worked, it was decided that someone should have deeper mechanical knowledge of the vehicle itself. It soon turned out, for obvious reasons that someone should be trained in the medical field as well. So in the beginning, that was all we was. A caretaker. Of the crew and the tank

She thinks about what to say next as she chews down the last part of her ham sandwich

>Now, different countries had different approaches to this. The british had an extra man to the crew, more to help in between engagements. They reasoned the caretaker couldn’t help in combat anyway. The french realized they had frenchmen in their tanks and opted for just basically giving them a whore when they came back from battle. As you can understand, this wasn’t very useful

“Just checking, these are still… normal people?”

>Oh yeah, nothing much exciting yet. Just someone with mechanical and medicinal knowledge, or a woman with lacking morals.

“Yet?”

>Yet. The Central powers as a whole was actually very slow with adopting tanks. In fact, only 20 was used in the entire war, which means they were heavily outnumbered. Something in the region of 300 to 1. So, the vehicle they produced was nothing short of a landship. 32 tons, a cannon and six MGs and a crew of 18 men. Because of their scarcity, the vehicles were highly valued, and it was decided to copy the british caretaker idea, but instead having this person be part of the crew. Usually in a “less important” role.

“How is being a gunner “less important”?”
>>
>It is of course an important role, but i only do anything in combat, and spend most of my time idly in the gunners seat, unlike the driver or commander for instance who is at work for most of the time the tank is working

“Fair enough”

>Up until this point, it’s just been mechanics and whores, but the real story starts with Sturmpanzerwagen A7V, chassis number 560. In the 1918 spring offensive, #560 along with two other A7V’s of Abteilung 1, #541 and #562 took part in the attack on Matz. Problem was, the french knew of the attack from german POW’s. Meaning the German offensive ran into a mass of artillery, infantry, and more importantly, up to 150 Renault FT tanks.

“Renault? Like the car maker Renault?”

>Oh yeah. The FT was the first modern tank, so to say, with the classic layout of a turret on top, engine at the back and fighting compartment at the front. But, most variants around Matz were the MG armed version, and lacked a cannon. Even the few machines that did have a cannon… it was only a 37 mm, and a very short one at that. I can’t imagine it had very good AP rounds either, if said vehicles even had any at all. So the german offensive ran into a heavy counteroffensive. 560 was damaged in the closing stages of the attack, mortally wounding its caretaker. He lived long enough to send a last letter to his wife at home, who he had sent many letters to.

She tries to get some more coffee but sighs with disappointment as the cup is empty. Pleading eyes look back at you, and you return them with a smile. And filling up the cup once again.

>This american coffee truly is awful
“German is better?”

Lily scoffs

>Can’t say it is. When i was in France though…
“Wanna go there when this is over?”

Her eyes light up again, and her mouth curves into that heart melting smile she only ever shows you
>>
>Yes. I’d love to. But now, back to tanks. To the surprise of the crew, the caretaker's wife turned up at the front just a week later. Her husband had of course died by then, but they held a small ceremony and all that. To the great surprise to the crew, she decided to take her deceased husband’s role in the tank, becoming the new caretaker. And, despite her-

“Sorry to interrupt, but you’ve used the term caretaker some times now. I’m guessing that’s not what it’s really called, is it?”
>Augh… no. My real title is “Wagen wärter”. Wagen translates to vehicle and wärter means... keeper, ward or nurse or something along those lines. But i’d rather you not use that term, okay?
“Is that because you or someone else has an issue with it?

You stop for a second, and chuckle a little at thought that just hit

>Find something amusing?
“Put it this way, with a bit of imagination your english title would be Tank nurse, which i find rather…”
>If you say “cute” i’ll slap you
“I’ll take my chances. I think it sounds adorable”

Her hand hits the side of your face with before you even noticed started moving. It leaves a burning sensation, and a very irritated German at the opposite side of the table.

>Maybe i do too, but i suggest you don’t say that when there are others around”
“Love you too”

Her face returns from the angry and somewhat commanding look she had, to light blush and a hint of embarrassment.

>y-you too…
“Sorry, i got you off topic. The wife?”

>Yeah, right. She took her husband’s role with taking care of the machine and the crew. In fact, chassis number 560 would keep fighting for another four months, and was to be the last A7V still fighting, until it finally succumbed to enemy fire in the town of Iwuy just a month before the war ended. So, in these four months between mid june and october 11…

Lily loses momentum. Not so much that she has issues finding words, but something is causing her discomfort or trouble or something along those lines

“You okay Lily?”
>Yeah, i am. But this is a little tricky to explain because of how… weird it is
“I had a VW Golf once. At one point, i had three warning lights on, and i was supposed to take it to the shop, but i went out just driving instead. On the way back i hit a pothole, and all three warning lights went out. That car got me another 50 000 miles before dying. Now, i thought that was weird before i met, and fell face first for, a girl who apparently has looked the same way since 1944 and has a 72 ton heavy tank destroyer wrapped around her finger and controls it like it’s her own hand”

>...What?
“Point being, weird has kinda lost it’s power with me?”
>I don’t mean that, does Volkswagen still make cars?
“Oh. Yeah they do”

>Whatever. Point is… Okay, let’s start with them before the war. They both grew up in a village in a hilly forest region in southeastern Germany, or was it Czechoslovakia? I can’t remember precisely. Anyway, this was a village known for its… deviant beliefs so to say. Germany had since the dark ages been divided between if the should have protestantism or catholicism. And instead, this village was isolated enough for a heathen religion to be maintained since the norse introduced them to it in the eleventh or twelfth century i believe.

“So this is full on norse mythology?”
>>
>It was at first. It changed over time into something different, yet still with the same basic ideas. It is that mixed with a little german folklore. At any rate, during these four months she managed to…
“This is hard to explain?”
>Yes. Forgive me, but it’s like trying to explain Die glocke to someone who has problems understanding a butter knife
“Not fun. And wha-
>Oh, nevermind, it’s nothing. It’s just… Let’s put it like this, where you do think the life force goes?
“The what now?”
>Uhm, life force?
“I have absolutely no idea what you are on about right now”
>Okay, simpler terms, soul. Let’s say you have a soul. Where in you is it? How big is it? Does it have a color? A smell? does it weigh anything?
“Does a unicorns breathe fire? Hard to tell, considering no one knows for sure”
>Yes, correct… to some degree. But we do have some life force, a life essence of sorts
“You know what, i’ll just stop asking questions”
>And i never thought you’d shut up

She is taken back a little, apparently having suffered a slip of her tongue, and her expressions slips over from neutral to regretful

>I apologize. I didn’t mean it like that
“Don’t worry. Just explain how these “butter knives” work when you’re done, okay?”
>d-don’t be mean to me
“My love, i’m just joking a little. Please go on”

Lily is again put to ease, and continues her story. Smiling

>So, there is a life essence in all of us, it grows with us, it changes with us, gives us strength and… another few cliches like that. Now, do you think a person can live without this, let’s call it soul. It isn’t a soul, just remember that
“Sure it’s not a soul?”
>Yes. Very much so. But let’s call it “soul” because it it’s a concept you are at least somewhat familiar with. This soul, do you think someone can live without it?
>>

You look at Lily. It was an honest question. No strings here, nothing on stake. She just wanted to know what you thought. You look at her. The pale skin. the short cropped hair, the hazel eyes

“I guess you can, i mean, you’re alive”
>Oh yes. I am alive, very much so. But this “soul” of mine, do you think it’s dead? Gone? Did it fly away?
“I guess this is where the Jagdtiger comes in”
>Precisely
“So your soul… thing is bound to the vehicle?”
>Correct. Want to guess where in Jagdpanzer it goes?
“I guess… that would be the engine or the gun?”
>See, now you’re thinking of it like a heart. It’s not. Just like this “soul” has no place in the body. Mine is bound to the steel of the vehicle, the chassis
“So when we cut out the engine cover…”
>Yeah. Not sure i’d have made it if you weren’t there. But you were….

Lily smiles again

>Anyway, the wife… or widow rather managed to do this process pretty much on her own. How she did it, if it was over night, if it took a week or this happened in those final moments of #560 is still a little unclear. This is because… of the conflicting information on this subject. There were many eyewitnesses to this. Mostly just because it was a woman in a tank. You have to understand things and roles worked differently from now, so it did catch a little attention. Not many knew about the… bonding process. And she stayed inside the vehicle for most of the time, so she wasn’t seen that much. But that one tank achieved spectacular results over these four months. The crew was operating smoothly, the always seemed well rested, relaxed, professional. And a good tank crew is worth way more than a tank

“That warms the heart”
>>
>I do what i have to do to keep the crew working. And don’t ask that, because that is for you and you alone. Don’t worry. Anyway, naturally other people started looking at this behemoth that was powered by some kind of supernatural being, which it wasn’t. But hey, people like stories i guess? However, it did prove an advantage and it didn’t take long for people to get interested in this, German and foreign. And this is where… two branches is formed so to say. Those who had to get information from eyewitnesses, just verbally, and those who found the memoirs

“She kept a diary?”

>Not really, no. I think memoirs is a better term. Even if was supposed to be a diary, it turned out to more like instructions. But there was a problem. A person usually notices the anomalies in another person. For example, Natalya. How do you tell her away from another girl?
“Her eyes probably?”
>Exactly, she has a very unusual eye color. It’s sort of her one thing to set her apart from a crowd. And this is what people tend to notice. You can ask anyone what her eyes look like, they will say “icy blue” or something. Ask the same person what her nose looks like and they won’t be able to answer
“I see what you mean, but how does this connect to what you were saying earlier?”
>That means if you speak to someone who spoke to this widow, they tend to notice her deviances. So it was actually possible to… reverse engineer the bonding process . This happened to all sorts of places all over the world just after the first world war, with… mixed results. Apart from Germany of course, which weren’t allowed to build any tanks. But, there was this sequel to the first world war you might have heard about, and tanks were needed. And just in time with this, someone “found” these memoirs, on how to this whole thing. Properly. Apart from my factory. They were not happy with second and third hand information. And they instead spent a year finding the source of this information.
>>
“Did they?”
>Have a guess. You think these guys would get freaked out and started calling each other at 5 AM over someone called “Fisher” or “Detroit”?
“I don’t know. You tell me. Would they?”
>No, dear. They would not

Lily takes a look at the clock on the wall. It’s way too early for people to be awake now anyway. And yet, there is a light knock on the door

“Yeah?”
‘My children, i ha-’
>Stop right there. Not anyone’s child

The old man stops in the door, remembering Lily is actually older than he is, despite her youthful appearance

‘Of course. I would like you to accompany me to the Jagdtiger’

Lily nods nonchalantly and stands up, and you follow suite

‘Alone please’

Lily nods reassuringly to you, hinting you to stay. She walks over to Jake until she is uncomfortably close

>Nicht in weiteren hundert Jahren.

Does it sound like wikipedia or like someone actually speaking?

Does the story sound SOMEWHAT believable or at least a decent concept?

is it still readable?

Just because of the somewhat supernatural nature of this Nibelheim, or Nibelungin (since I'm not sure which one belongs here), I enjoy it immensely. whichI also believe that it isn't necessarily believable for the exact same reason. I'm still waiting for more Norse influence to make itself felt because I'm a mythologyfag.

Honestly, there are a FEW hiccups with tense or conjugation, etc, that I would like fixed, but otherwise, the story is great as-is.

Gotcha I don't know much about 1903s I wasn't expecting to buy one but the local gun shop I go to had it and I ended up buying it on impulse sorta like when you go to an animal shelter with a friend and somehow you end up with a new cat.
I will have to look at it I do believe I saw an s stamped somewhere on the stock, it actually has a few stamps all over barrel says SA 4 42 before the front sight. I think it means Springfield armory and the number are the date it has a little bursting bomb there too and not sure if it matters but serial number is around 230ks. Over all in really good condition they had a 1903a3 from another company but that one was 1500sh.
>>
>>32985863
SA 4 42 means the barrel was made in april 1942 by Springfield, and the bomb is just the Army Ordinance cartouche. That serial is pretty low for a Springfield, though. It's either a RIA or it's a 1901a1 like mine in >>32985823

What kind of rear sight did it have? If it's a springfield, it may be unsafe to fire. Actually, after looking up the serial numbers, that may be an unsafe rifle to shoot entirely for either RIA or SA.

Rifles made before 1918 used a single heat treating method that didn't harden the bolt and receiver effectively enough, and rifles were prone to shattering after a while.

More AnCap Warrior?

http://pastebin.com/pn7JKNKU

Consciousness returned slowly. Leo's world was gently rocking and jostling, he must be inside a vehicle of some kind. His body felt heavy, as though he was weighed down with something. There was something restraining his arms, and a tightness around his chest. Was he tied up? No, whatever was holding him was far too soft to be zip ties or rope, unless it was made of velvet. Which would be awfully strange. He opened one eye slowly, and found himself staring directly into another eye; one with a vibrant green iris and enormous by comparison. Too terrified to move, he slowly panned his eye around the darkened compartment.

He had been stripped of his scrubs, and placed in the middle of a messy pile of bedding inside the back of what was likely a truck, or maybe a VTOL. What was of much more concern was the fact that he was surrounded by Xenos. Four of them, in fact. One clung to each arm, diminutive faces nestled into his shoulders, another laid ontop of his torso with her head buried in his chest, and the fourth, the largest of them, was cradling his head. With the exception of the one holding his head, they were all asleep. It was the same three Sha'dee he'd seen in the hospital, the big one must have been the fourth who clocked him with the tomahawk. They were all wearing stripped undershirts and khaki boxers, fairly standard undergarments for rebel Regulars.

If Humans were apes, then Sha'dee were more like monkeys. They were short and scrawny, at roughly 5 feet in height at the tallest compared to the modern Human average of 6+, with slender and dexterous limbs. Their skin was deep red, and in the case of two of them, broken up by darker red stripes. They had four fingers to the Human five, mobile, pointed ears, large eyes and long prehensile tails wrapped around eachother and his legs. The big one noticed his eyes open and smiled, revealing a mouth full of wickedly sharp teeth complete with two prominent fangs.
>>
>>32986709
Leo's eyes widened and he tried to break free of their grip, but he was too weak to resist as the alien pressed his face tightly into her chest and stroked his now-bandaged head, purring softly.

"Shhhhh... Don't struggle Human, you're in pretty rough shape. Wouldn't want to hurt yourself more, would we?" She crooned, nuzzling her cheek against the top of his head and tightening her tail around his ankles.

"X-x-xeno..." He stammered foolishly, eyes wide with terror.

She chirped in amusement as the others stirred and awoke, staring at Leo with large bright eyes.

"Yes, I'm a Xeno. Now hold still!" The Xeno instructed, sliding down and gently pushing his head to the side, exposing his neck as her grin widened, fangs extending out of her upper jaw.

"Hey, hey, hey, wait! Can we maybe talk about this? I don't think you wanna do that, I probably taste really bad and my body's mostly full of cybernetics..." Leo protested, grinning nervously.

All four of them laughed out loud, an almost birdlike chittering sound emitted from deep in their throats.

"You're scaring him, Vetra. I think he thinks we're going to eat him." One of them giggled.

"Awww, poor thing" the big one, Vetra, purred "we're not going to eat you, you silly Human."

Her eyes gleamed mischievously as her face inched closer to his neck.

"I'm just gonna bite you a little."

Before Leo could react, she struck like a cobra, sinking her fangs into his neck. Surprisingly, it didn't hurt. Felt more like being pricked with a hypo than bitten by an animal. In fact, once the sting faded, it actually felt kinda... good? He cautiously opened his eyes, which had instinctively screwed shut the moment she struck, and was relieved to find himself not covered in blood. Indeed she was being remarkably fastidious, cradling his head and very gently pressing her lips against his neck, with a tenderness that felt more like a kiss than a bite.
>>
>>32986725
As she broke away, Leo felt all the aches and pains in his head and body melt away. He'd felt this sensation before. A long time ago, when he was in high school, trying hypo patches behind the gym with the chuds he'd called friends back then. Venom. If he'd known the stuff was literally Xeno venom back then he probably would have puked, but right now the pain relief was all he cared about.

"See, that wasn't so bad, now was it?" Vetra's voice had an almost maternal tone, but with a hint of mischief that was echoed by the little toothy smirk on her face.

"If you don't like hers, you can try mine..." One of the others purred, running a slender black tongue along her own fangs.

Vetra casually reached over and flicked her on the tip of her ear, causing the other girl to squeal and fall off Leo's chest, into the one clinging to his right arm. Once they had finished wrestling, Vetra straightened up and spoke.

"Alright bitches, time to get up. We should arrive any minute, and this guy needs to be presentable or it's going to be that New Kheerat hooker incident all over again."

The Xenos pouted and grumbled, but nonetheless they quickly scurried to their feet and started to get dressed. They pulled on combat pants and battle-jackets, helping eachother tug on autolace boots and tightening eachothers' plate carriers. It was old, old gear, primative by the standards Leo was used to as a private mercenary. No nanotube weave tactinecks, dynamic armor pads, combat IV tubing, or adaptive camouflage coating. Never mind power armor or even a load-bearing exoskeleton. Apart from their modern railguns and helmet-mounted optics, they would not have looked much different from the ancient Operators of the 21st Century.

Leo's staring was interrupted by something landing on his chest. It was a pile of clothes, which Vetra had dug out of a footlocker and tossed at him.

"Come on, you too. Get dressed."

He hauled himself to his feet, and began pulling on the pants.
>>
>>32986739
"What's your name, anyway?" He heard her ask while he fumbled with the cheap magzips.

"Leo." He muttered, still extremely wary of his alien captors.

Nobody really thought of Sha'dee as particularly dangerous. Indeed, Leo like most of the mercenary class though of them as weak and pathetic, albeit quick on their feet. It's certainly hard to take something seriously when you've seen so many crumple under your boots. But he didn't have an Overlord now. He didn't even have a gun. And they had plenty of them. The best course of action, he decided, was to play along until he at least knew where the hell he was. Then he could figure out how to escape.

"Just Leo? Ok. I'm S.Sgt Vetra, this is Sgt. Kiri, and those two are Cpl.s Hera and Kess." Vetra explained as she tightened the final straps on her harness, pointing out each member of her team as she named them.

Kiri, who had been wrapped around his left arm, was the smallest of the bunch, at least in terms of height. She was quiet and avoided his eyes, with fluffy brown hair that hung just below her jawline, brilliant green eyes and deep red skin with bands of irregular darker spots in the same pattern as Vetra's stripes. She must have been of mixed parentage, Sha'dee usually had spots, stripes or neither, but rarely both.

Hera was no exception to this, sporting paler skin with bold, vibrant stripes of dark red alongside curly orange hair and bright, mischievous yellow eyes. She was the second smallest after Kiri, and the only one besides Vetra wearing a pistol. Hera was the one Vetra had flicked on the ear, which Leo now noticed sported a series of piercings and decorative notches. Her arms, neck and chest were heavily tattooed as well. Like many Liberation Front Regulars, she had likely originally been part of a gang somewhere.
>>
>>32986753

Kess, the second largest, had solid red skin with long, elegant ears, jet black hair and strikingly purple eyes. She had apparently been fitted with cybernetics, a rarity in Xenos, as she didn't have a throat mic band or earbuds like the others. She was also wearing a short freq hanger on her hip. Leo had heard her species was good with swords, but Kess must have come from a wealthy (by alien standards) background to be able to afford it.

Vetra herself had opted for a much more economical solution to that problem. The dreaded freq tomahawk, as last seen in the bruise on the side of Leo's head. Business end hooked into a kydex sheath on her chest, it was powered via contacts embedded in the power transmission gloves she wore, drawing from the same microfusion cell on her lower back that her carbine did.

She was the toughest-looking Red Leo had ever seen, like the stereotypical Sha'dee Huntress who found herself the villain of so many webshows and videogames come to life. While small compared to a Human she was still bigger than your average Sha'dee, with steely green eyes and a sly smile that mirrored her cocky attitude. Unruly brown hair was wrestled into a short ponytail just below the rim of her helmet, complementing her medium red skin. She had tattoos as well, though not nearly as many as Hera, and like Hera sported notched ears and most likely a lawless background.

Their uniforms (including the one he'd been given) were the dirty concrete-grey patchwork of static urban camo with dark khaki webgear and plate harnesses. Both these and their helmets had clearly been originally produced for Humans, and later modified for use by the smaller Aliens. The trousers now sported a tail-hole, which fortunately for Leo was covered by a flap, and the ear modules for the helmets had been punched out to make room for pointed ears. Leo was provided a boonie hat instead of a helmet. His jacket also lacked insignia, besides a rebel flag on the right shoulder.
>>
>>32986773
As whatever they were in ground to a halt, Vetra tossed him the last piece of kit and hauled the sliding door open. It was the same compact emergency breathing mask they wore around their necks. They must still be in the city, or a city. As the other three piled out, Vetra stopped him.

"Just don't talk much, and follow my lead. If anyone asks, you tell them you're a local volunteer under the authority of Munitions and Logistics Division. Trust me, it's a pretty cushy gig compared to what's going to happen to most of the people here." She explained, adjusting his hat to cover the head bandages.

"Then why are you doing this for me?" Leo asked, finally sufficiently awake and adjusted to his bizarre situation to start questioning it.

"Oh this isn't a favor. You're going to be very useful to us." Vetra announced with a very worrying grin. "We have a lot of ammo crates to haul and seized munitions to sort and distribute today. Division won't give me more help, so congratulations, you've been press-ganged. Don't worry, if your injuries start acting up, just let me know and I'll give you a little nip. And we aren't even mates. How nice of me."

She hopped out and Leo followed, stepping out the side of a massive transport truck into a giant public square-turned-staging area, surrounded by tents, military vehicles, and destroyed buildings. It was filled with activity, with Xenos and Humans alike scurrying about their business. As his feet found solid ground, Hera pushed a rickety folding cart into his hands, already laden down with heavy ammunition boxes.

"Don't dawdle. If we don't get the first truck unloaded in two hours, then no breakfast."

Quick question - when you guys play video games, how keen are you onto the weapon sound effects? I'm driving myself nuts to find things that work well for my game and am wondering if I should just do ambient noises versus the individual rifle cracks when MC fires. Especially since for the demo, I'll be going all royalty free attribution sounds...

In return, have a concept CG sketch. Thanks for the help!
>>
>>32988254
I don't really care if gun sounds in a game are super-accurate as long as they sound appropriate. I've always been a fan of "crunchy" sound effects in movies, if you know what I mean.

Though, I'm sure you could get some folks here to record the sounds of their own guns firing if you want authenticity.

"Gorilla" GFHI (Failed Night Patrol Mission and Results)

Charls's eyes flutter, taking in the dimly-lit Chickasaw interior only illuminated by moonlight while blood soaks deep into his olive drab trousers and continues to drip from his right boot. This was a bad mission: Charls had been shot three times, one shot through his milsurp Bundesheer combat boots, another through his right hip, and then one more shot through his arm. Sonny, who had been suppressing a suspected firing position, ordered the men to fall back and was last seen by Charls with his Boonie cap folded up on either side with his Sterling in his left hand, a potato masher in his right, and a second potato masher clenched tightly by the wooden handle in his teeth.

Hector has a small stream of blood running down the right side of his face, the liquid pools in the collar of his drab BDU jacket, a flight helmet with the right earpiece blown off. A bullet from a Brazilian machine gun struck the right side of the helmet, fragmenting, and then grazing the side of Hector's forehead. It's amazing that the support gunner is still alive and that the fragment didn't smash into his skull. However, the gunner can now only lean against the back of the Chickasaw's cargo bay, dazed and utterly confused by shock and adrenaline.

The only operational person in the bay is Walther, the crew chief, who is currently trying his best to stop Charls from bleeding to death. The kid's thoughts race in a hazy and surreal manner, the thought of himself dying over some shitty jungle region with nary a soul to remember him saddens him to an almost unfathomable extent. Charls's eye drift, looking over the aluminum insides of the flying beast, cargo netting occasionally breaking an otherwise olive drab inside, a minority of the floor of said inside now red with the blood of Charls.

Charls's eyes continue their loop about the helicopter, eventually coming to rest on one peculiar image; Hector's bandana, folded several times and tied around his head, like a sweatband, has a large, singed tear from where the fragment ricocheted, red blood taking the place of the blown-open fabric. It is strangely therapeutic, however; the sight of a dazed, injured, damaged bandana-wearing, olive-clad soldier seems to distract Charls. The picturesque tone of the surreal image takes Charls's mind off of the depressing reality of the situation, but only momentarily, as his mind quickly searches for more thought and imagery to stimulate a possibly-panicked state.

This is it. Charls is going to die alone, over a shitty country, killed by shitty people, while trying to kill said shitty people. Literally, Charls isn't dying alone, he has the crew chief there with him, trying his best to keep him alive, and Hector lying at the opposite end of the Chickasaw will bear witness to Charls's passing, even if he probably won't remember it due to the shock.

The kid feels himself slipping, his eyes refusing to stay open, the whirring of the helicopter becoming rhythmatic and dull, the feeling of heat having left his legs a minute ago now spreads to his arms, and a feeling of exhaustion and overwhelming tiredness begin to overtake him. As Charls's eyes close, he stares towards the clear circle of the moon, which for some reason rises up and is cascaded by the roof of the Chickasaw, a faint thump hits Charls, and with that, he closes his eyes.

"Try this one." The voice is crisp and clear in Charls's ears, his left side to be exact. A sudden prick sends a jolt through his right side, causing Charls to let out a loud groan. "He's-He's awake." A female voice from Charls's right says, somewhat anxious and cheery. Charls tries to open his eyes, but finds that they are sealed shut by his own body.

"Wha-What? HEY! MY EYES!" Charls exclaims, panicked by his near death experience and even more-so by the fact that his eyelids refuse to respond. The kid feels four hands press on his body, two on each side. "Sir, sir, calm down!" The female voice says, a natural calmness in her voice makes him grow quiet, his breathing rather labored and anxious.

"Your eyelids just have temporary paralysis, it's common with patients like you who've been under major physical stress. The body is overwhelmed with signals and feelings, as a defensive reaction, it conserves energy from very minor parts of the body, fingertips and nails, mainly." The female explains, caressing Charls's arm gently to calm him down. The kid clears his throat, mind struggling to cope with what's happening and what has happened.

"I'll be back in a minute or two, keep an eye on this one and make sure he doesn't lose his shit again." The male voice says, faint footsteps reach Charls's ears over the sounds of echoing talking from down the hallway. Suddenly, a gentle touch races down Charls's right arm again, followed by a warm breath against his ear.

"I think you're pretty cute, even with all these bandages on." The same female voice whispers, before the breath suddenly goes away, the girl's touch still running down his arm. Charls must have turned red, for he heard a soft giggle from his right side. A sudden rush of thought, however, makes Charls start to get light-headed, the sudden realization that Sonny might be dead makes him start, his voice making a startled moan as his mind rushes through many different thoughts before suddenly, the warm breath returns to his ear suddenly, making his thoughts and feeling slow once more.

"Get some rest, sweetey." In this moment, Charls prays to god that the nurse doesn't notice the erection he's getting, the intimacy of the nurse's actions made Charls feel in such a way that he hasn't in a while.

Strangely enough, that feeling, much to Charls's surprise, is happiness.

Riding The Rimrock - Gone the Way of The Apache - Gone The Way of The Roman

Tierney rode through evening under flurries of snow at six-thousand and two-hundred feet above sea level and the mountains above him were crested with snow. It was spring and his leg hurt him for he'd been shot in that self-same appendage in the war.

He rode the rimrock at the military crest and he split a drove of the swift Coue's deer and shot one from the saddle with his Springfield. As he ejected the 45-70 casing, the smell of cordite takes him to other places and other times.

The high ground above a creekbed in Cuba. Tierney waits with fourth sqaud of third platoon, bravo troop. United States Cavalry. He has taken off his spurs and left them on his pommel, the horses staked some two hundred yards back, heads muffled in burlap and younger soldiers keeping them quiet and secure. He sees a hawk. It descends into the canefields and is out of sight for some moments. It emerges with a snake in hand but the snake is striking the raptor and soon he is forced to drop the viper. His talons release and the serpent begins to pirouette in the air. How queer it must be for such creatures of the dirt to be so high up and as the snake falls to the end of the phantasmagoric possession and the untimely death, Tierney cannot help but wonder what it is like to fly. The hawk circles the canefield listing terrible to the right before ceasing all movement, like a machine improperly lubricated. Succumbed to the poison, the dinosauric terror of small things enters a tailspin and impacts the canes with such a force that it can be heard by the soldiers laying the ambush.
>>
>>32991845

The irony is not lost on him. The patrol below comes into view and Tierney sights upon the foreshoulder of the first and only horse in the procession.

Tierney has been staring at the little doe for fifteen minutes, now. His horse sidles and blows impatiently and frightful of the smell of blood.

Aw hell. Its just blood. Everything bleeds, horse. I bleed and this deer bleeds and you'd bleed just as sure if I shot you

He drags the doe into a small basin where there is water in an arroyo. His horse follows and thoughtfully watches him dress the animal. His hands deftly remove the hide, and then the viscera, careful not to let any of the welter of gore reach the water. The horse periodically chews shadgrass and moves around the sacrificial spot, as if to observe some ritual and guide the hands of the butcher.

I know you want unsaddled ye old peckerhead son of a bitch but you'll wait or by God I'll kill us both for sport.

He smokes the meat in pieces over the sooty fire of a mountain juniper. He places what he will not eat now in the salted pelt of the cervid and he listens.

The rolling of a rock down the southern slope sends him rocketing behind his horse. His Colt is drawn and he scans the night. He can't see shit for the smoke.

Whos there. Answer careful and then you just come down into the firelight. Slow.

An older man enters the firelight. He is dressed in the garments of a Mexican field worker but his grey-black hair is long and greasy. He has a woolen serape over his shoulders and he is adorned with small furred items and tarnished silver. He is like as not an Indian by his face and he clutches his only armament, a Winchester 94 in his left hand.
>>
>>32991852

The two men stare at each other for some moments before any one dares to break the silence, as if it were some treaty of war, some thing would not do to be done and could shatter the existence of such isolated and nomadic worlds.

Wheres your horse.

Have you known many Apache to be mounted

I aint known so many apache to be nothing. Its a scarce commodity.

I smelled meat

There is some of that and I reckon so long as you dont do no crazy-ass-fucking-shit youre welcome to sit a spell. I'll go shares.

The man sat crosslegged and quiet. Tierney, his pistol still out, opened the skin of the deer to reveal the smoking pieces. The man accepted a piece and chewed thoughtfully and silently.

What brings you to be here.
>>
>>32991861

There is no place that I am suppose to be anymore. So I have to be somewhere

You speak good english.

This is the white mans world now.

More silence followed and neither man questioned it. The Indian had dark, earthy eyes that hung in his sockets like burned-out coals. They did not reflect any light. The horse did not make much note of him and he did not give that he himself made much note of anything but it was like as not that he had taken note of everything there was to note or he was doing so passively, Tierney figured.

When the moon hung close enough to overhead, Tierney turned into his blankets. The Indian still sat crosslegged as before and this bothered Tierney but he did not figure the Indian meant him any harm outright.
>>
>>32991869

He dreamt of a barroom in Colorado. A small trading post somewhere near Pueblo. A lurid-looking Irish whore skirted the barroom, looking to pick up customers. Her false giggles and confectionery air made Tierney nervous and he would look down at his calloused hands on the aspen barplanks when she would draw near. Other times, he would look at her in the mirror. He has just returned to this country and he had not engaged an English-speaking woman in some time. She sat on the lap of a wispily-bearded man with pig eyes and gnarled teeth and through the proper applications of liquor and handiwork, it was agreed that he would do business with her in the broomcloset of a room she operated from.
Tierney ordered a bourbon and drank deeply before ordering another. The liquor made him feel warm from the winter cold and he shrugged up his elk-hide robe.
Some time passed by and he heard a scream, the scream of a woman in pain and he heard the sharp thumping of abuse. He thought of home. After a moment of this, the broomcloset door opened and the man emerged, turning to spit back into the room. He sat at the table with his friends and they shared a laugh. The red-haired harlot sheepishly returned to the bar and sobbing, tried to recompose herself.
After a while, the man stood.

Be back boys. Got to take a shit.

When he left the room, Tierney looked to the bartender and peeled back his robe to expose his Colt.

You got a shotgun.

The bartender nodded.

Give it here.
>>
>>32991878

With shotgun in hand, Tierney exited through the backdoor of the bar and walked across the snowy lot to the outhouse. He knocked with the shotgun.
The whore-beater's voice answered.

Hold up just a fuckin second. Asshole.

Tierney judged where the man's torso ought to be in the shithouse and let loose both barrels with the 12 gauge. He heard a thud and nothing more. He opened the door and the man lay partially eviscerated on his side.
Tierney walked back into the bar and spoke to the barkeep.

How much do you pay for shells.

Five cents each for buckshot.

The man's friends sat frozen.
Tierney paid his tab and ten cents more and rode out of town.

When Tierney awoke, the Apache was crouched, rifling his saddlebags in the pre-dawn light.

Tierney watched him for a moment and then in one motion sat up and drew his revolver.
The Indian froze, his outstretched hand not quite reaching his Winchester.

There are few of my people left

Tierney thumbed the hammer and fired. The bullet impacted the Indian's left eye and came out behind his right ear, sending a spray of bone and grey matter onto the rocks behind him. He sat very still for a moment in his crouch, before falling over and beginning to spasm briefly before ceasing all movement, all breathing, all thinking, all walking and all dreaming forever.

One less now I reckon.
>>
>>32991884

Tierney looked at the smoking Colt in his hand. He opened the loading gate and used the ejector rod to bounce out the casing. He thumbed another .45 Colt cartridge into the chamber and seated the cylinder without one under the pin.

He rode out in an hour, stopping for a moment to look again at the Indian, who lay looking at the brightening sky with a blank, one-eyed expression.

One less now.

I liked it! It's good to see some western stuff around here, I really enjoyed the read. The distinction that Apaches weren't known for riding mounts was pretty cool, nice to see the level of detail. I'm going to keep an eye on this one! Keep up the good work.

I'm in a Western kick myself at the moment, 115 or so odd pages into my first book. My two main characters just returned home from Deadwood, where they had to rescue a neighbour from a set up by Al Swearengen.
>>
>>32992240

It's a "western" in setting, but realistically if you caught the first two chapters you'd see that it's going to be a sort of tour de force about the soldier in society, conservation, the dying American landscape, etc.

A little Blood Meridian/All the Pretty Horses but also Sand County Almanac.

I haven't been able to find the first two chapters, I scoured the pastebin and didn't see it. Maybe I'm just blind.

I'm a little more of a sucker for the highly fictionalized westerns, but interesting all the same, I'll still read it.

One thing I always found strange about stories/media about the decline of the Western frontier and the move towards what we consider to be more modern times is it always seems like the story is trying to apologize for something. I suppose perhaps because stories and media from times steeped in the depth of the Western frontier are always so unapologetic, with the characters shooting down Indians and outlaws, or robbing trains and the like. Those stories about the decline of that time period always turn out so bleak and dark because of it, it seems. In part because modernity is stamping it out and also because the old men are told by everyone else that they were heartless savages for building the America that they so self righteously enjoy. Any romance that the time period held for them starts to feel cheap when people turn their noses up at them and call them animals.

I dunno, I'm probably thinking too deeply about it, but anyways, I'll happily await the next chapter.
>>
>>32993743

I was raised in cattle country. I've drove beef and worked from the saddle and cut the mountains of three western states and mexico. I've also been an enlisted man (still am) and a huge sportsman. A lot of the story is based on family history, personal experience, literary influence.

But I will say that in most of what used to be wilder America, people have come to realize that the things we used to do can no longer be sustainably done. That the pencil-dicks with test tubes and data sheets weren't fucking lying, and that in order to advance the future of our wild country, we must revert back to the oldest of ways. The beginning of settlement didn't kill the wilderness, nor did the end. It was the sweet spot in the middle.

It's pretty good. Like the flashbacks. Tierney somewhat seems like a wild west version of them internet white knights. Maidens (whores) honor saved: 43. Maidens (whores) who have rewarded me with sex: 0. I kid. I'm sure he pulled all kinds of Cuban poontang. Not sure why he killed the Apache, though. I feel there's a lot we don't know about Tierney. I look forward to learning more. One more thing; it'd be a bit easier to follow the dialogue, if you threw in some quotation marks when somebody spoke. Other than that, it's pretty nice to read.

>>32993683
Pretty nice. I like the world building, and learning a bit more about the aliens, even if it is all human speculation. One thing that I noticed was that there seemed to be a lot of run on sentences and commas where maybe periods would have been better. I'm not quite certain what the rules are on that, but I generally try to keep it an expression per sentence. I think it makes the story flow a bit better that way. But I'm really enjoying it, and I hope that I'll get to read more.

well here it comes

My dear Lara,

For a long time before asking you to be my girlfriend I had been thinking things over and I was certain of my own feelings. But I still feelt fear for asking you when I did. I should have waited, for one thing, until my time serving was over and i could spend my time with you, and for another until I was sure on your feelings. And it seems i have given you a surprise and have rekindled feelings which should not have been awoken. I am sorry and yet I am glad.

You asked me to be really sure I was not influenced by any excitement of the moment. Im not. I have loved you ever since I was at that cafe. A teenager love back then, i admit it, it often happens to teenagers and then dies out. Mine did not die.

There is just one thing I want to mention before I forget it, and it is this: If I should by any chance be crippled, I will cry everything off. I would not dream of spending time with you if I did not have a sound body . That is the one reason why I’m such a rotter for having to ask you in the middle of my deployment. Perhaps it would be better if we put aside what has happened until i return?
Goodbye,

Love from yours truly Robert

No quotation marks. It's an homage.

But thank you very much. And as for the sort of lone white knight vibe, that comes to play in a sort of Leon the Professional way. The whole concept is the individual in society, moreover the soldier in society getting caught up in issues that are foreign to them and running plumb out of country.

The whore and the Apache have a symbolism about them, are you very into western history?

I also have started writing the next part of The Road Home, so I'll probably have that next thread, if you care.
Slightly related, but what is the most ara ara~ .308?

The thing with the whore and the Apache:

Whore- Women, even whores, were regarded with decent respect by all men of the frontier. Even with the advent of the railroad, there were way more men than women. It was not tolerated to rough up whores and good establishments or prostitution rings would have madames and enforcers to keep the Johns from getting too rowdy. In the lack of these, frontier folks would often take justice into their own hands.

Apache- Thievery was not tolerated. Especially against those who had extended hospitality to you. Add in the low social status of the Indian and Tierney's past experiences...

A WHOLE NEW WORRRRRRLD! Sorry. Had to get that out of my system. I'm glad that someone is giving this anti gun nut a new lease on life. And who knows; she might become the driving force for Geist rights. Charlotte's Bill or something.

>>32997863
I think I get it a bit now. I must have missed the Apache trying to raid Tierney's saddlebags before. The killing makes much more sense now.

If you still have this info available, what was the serial number range of that particular receiver?
My NO is 5008xxx, and I want to know if I have to worry about it the way you had to worry about yours.

>"Staying overtime, Walker?"
Agent Miller asks the lone man on his desk, a dreary desk lamp illuminating stacks of folders.
>Yeah man, got to check where all these guns went. Boss is shitting himself on why they got to Mexico.
>"Well, tough luck. Enjoy the night then."
He then walks out of the door which then closes with a dull thud. A few minutes later, the groan of a car is audible, then quickly faded away.

>"Finally...alone time."
Walker loosens up his tie as he casually walks to the Firearm Reference room.
>"Let's see...I had the Sten gun last night. Maybe I should try something...exotic?"
He ponders, his hands now wrapped around the cold metal door handle.
>"Fuck it. The full-auto PTR is it then."
>>
>>32999527
I still have the old receiver on hand, however I may not be able to get you the info for another 8 hours or so. I can post it in the next thread for you unless we somehow haven't reached it yet.

It has been awhile since I really looked into the N.O. receiver issues, so I am unsure if it is only serial number based, or just the fact that it's a N.O. receiver.

According to Based Ian, Rock Island Arsenal and Springfield guns with serial numbers under 800,000 are the ones that are potentially unsafe.
>>
>>33001937
National Ordinance had issues using inferior steel as well as improper heat treating on their receivers, they were also fast as opposed to forged. This lead to stretching and some ruptures on a few people.

Alright, I'll try, but I'm not an English major. I just speak it, and not always so well. A lot of the errors I noticed (I don't think there are that many) were just missing capitalization, specifically when you wrote I by itself. It's always capitalized in English, regardless of its location in the sentence.

>Im not.
Should be written as I'm not.

>But I still feelt fear...
Felt is the past tense of feel.

>For a long time before asking you to be my girlfriend I had been thinking things over and I was certain of my own feelings.

That doesn't sound quite right. It's close, but it feels slightly off. Maybe if you kept
>I had been thinking things over...
and
>For a long time
together, then it would sound better. But this part sounds just slightly off, it's almost uncanny.

>I should have waited, for one thing...
I would have written it as:
>For one thing, I should have waited...

>and for another until I was sure on your feelings.
This is another tricky one. It sounds almost natural. Maybe it'd be a bit more natural if you make it its own sentence and wrote it as:
>I also should have waited until I was certain about your feelings for me.

>i have given you a surprise
Close, but I think
>I have surprised you
sounds a bit better, but I think that one's mostly up to the reader.

>...which should not have been awoken.
I think this is another reader preference, but I think it sounds better as:
>...which were better left dead.

>...to be really sure...
I'd write it as:
>...to be certain that...

>...I was at that cafe. A teenager love back then, i admit it...
I think it works better if you wrote it as:
>...we met at the café. It was a teenage love back then, I admit.
I’d start the next bit as a new sentence.

Part 2:

>...be crippled, I will cry everything off.
I think the wording would work better if it was written as:
>...become crippled, then I will call (cry doesn't fit here, and I assume you meant call) everything off.

>That is the one reason...
I'd throw in I guess before that.
>...having to ask you...
I think the tense rules would write it as:
>...having asked you...

>Goodbye,
I’d put a period of instead of a comma, or drop it completely, because you already have a good closing.

>Love from yours truly Robert
It'd be written as:
>Love, from yours truly,
>Robert

It’s pretty good, and I feel like you could make a larger story based off the letter, if you felt like it.

Again, I'm not the best English speaker, but it is my first and native language, so maybe I've helped you get a more natural sounding letter, I hope.
