With out knowing any of that. I highly recommend the $70 Cold Steel Code4. I own/have owned probably 50 or so folding knives that cost between $15-$250, and my go to dependable work knife is the Code4. (pic related)

That's what I carry.

I took Krav Maga for a while and tried different ways of carrying knives (practice knives when doing knife fighting) and found tip up worked best for me.

When I chose my knife I wanted it to meet the convention of a "standard pocket knife" according to florida state law. That way I can carry it in places where I can't carry a gun. That means no mechanical/assisted opening. I claim the emerson notch doesn't count but I guess that's up to the court to decide. It also meant blade length restrictions and no serrations.

I see people all the time carrying knives that are only allowed by CWP. I know they are unlikely to have an issue but they are really putting themselves at a disadvantage (even if they have a CWP). The most important is if they go to a bar carrying it they are committing a crime that could get their license revoked.

After carrying several different knives in different configurations I came to the conclusion this is the best knife for everyday carry that a) make me as combat effective as possible while b) meeting state laws that allow me to carry it virtually everywhere.

I also carry a gerber dime on my keychain and have a victorinox rescue tool with my first aid kit in the car. I have a larger multitool in my bag.

Some people do find the handle a little thin and uncomfortable. I don't have this issue, but it is a problem depending on your hand size.

But generally I recommend Cold Steel if you want a good dependable Beater, and Benchmade, Spyderco, ZT, ect... if you want something that is still as functional but with some more attention to detail and some more bells and whistles.

Look at the benchmade hidden canyon OP. I'm getting one later today to replace my griptillian. Fixed blades are superior to folders imo but my griptillian is amazing

Addition:

You should really take a look at the Otter.
I use it since 1 and a half year now.
Cooking, whittling, cutting zip ties, it did everything. It weighs nothing and is very thin, you'll forget that it's in your pocket.

High carbon c56 steel (rust shows after few hours if wet) which is durable but easy to sharpen.
It's only a few bucks.
Downside is that the backlock can come with vertical play which doesn't affect the function though. The blade rests on the plastic backspacer dulling the tip.

I use my kershaw scallion more than any of my other knives. Anything with a 3.5" blade is too cumbersome, some people carry even larger knives lol. I like texas toothpicks but tend to lose them. The Ontario Rat2, Gerber Evo Mini, Gerb Paraframe Mini, are all perfect size knives I My Opinion. I do HVAC and use knives often. I find that big heavy hands don't need big heavy knives, Small hands need big knife.

lol yeah... But to be fair, this stuff is pretty much unavoidable. At the end of the day the Sebenza is a production knife, so there will be defects. It comes down to how often, and how the manufacture deals with claims.

I have my issues with them (see >>>32891654 ) but in general they are very well made at lest.
