So how long until the mods go back to fucking off again and not giving a single shit about this board? Seems ever since Trump was inaugurated they've been out in force.

Just think, for the price of that red dot you could have bought some irons and been able to hold zero on something.

Your rifle is officially boner inducing now, congratulations. Now leave it like that long enough to get beat and scratched up and watch the sexy levels skyrocket.

An AR, or any .223, is a rifle that you absolutely have to make a well placed shot.
If you do not make that right shot, things won't go well.
There's a triangular soft spot at the center base of the neck. I can't remember what it's called, but it, and a dome-shot, are your safest bet to drop it where it stands.
>>32843163
You don't need to tell me; I'm not looking for your validation. You're the one who bought an Atlas for a gun with only irons just so you can immediately post "pls R8" on the internet.

Then why did you reply? Why do you keep coming back?
I'm not asking this next one to be mean: do you have any friends? Is the reason you've latched on to posting on /ARG/ with a non functional rifle purely because there is no one else that will notice you or cares if you're alive?
Your caustic behavior and devotion to being a nuisance are clear indicators that you crave attention. Outside of being so needy that you post the same five pictures of a gun that barely works and you keep buying expensive and downright overpriced parts for it, what do you contribute? You never ask a meaningful question, and oftentimes, you ask the same question several times in a single thread.
If you want some sort of faux friendship on the Internet that's fine, but don't expect anyone to want to talk to you or not bully you when you beg for it by being such a dweeb all the time. When I first started posting, I tried to be nice to you. You've constantly been a shit lord since you've been here, and you've made that incredibly hard.
.Either shape up, or recognize that no one likes your garbage AR, no one cares that you collect lizards, no one cares about your ultra plain wife, and that no one will ever care if you don't start contributing something meaningful outside of doing the opposite of what we tell you when you ask for advice.

The newer PEQs have been used plenty by .mil on mk12s by the time most guys phased them out of service. You can either search high and low and pay a shit load of money for a fell off the truck special for one, which are getting more rare, or you can get the ATPIAL-C which is a smaller but very similar looking version of the .mil version.
The Steiners have higher output and provide better value as far as I'm concerned. No reason to pay more for less when it comes to something that's going to cost you $700+ at bare minimum for the i2. If you want an illluminator you are paying over $1000 for either.
I've never seen a retail equivalent to the older, slimmer PEQs though.

>>32843994
The only difference between the MIL/LEO Peq-15 and the civi peq-15 is the Mw rating for the Laser diodes. Its the same body, controls, and circuitry from my understanding.
In order for L3 insight to sell the PEQ15 to civis they had to make a version, ATPIAL-C, that had down graded diodes.
As for the screw, i keep it there because I dont use those other settings.

>>32844022
Hey man, I've only dabbled in NV bumming a spare monocle on night shoots with friends, I don't doubt I'm wrong on a few levels.
I've had a handful of pretty well dedicated night guys adamantly state that the atpial-c's illuminator is weaker than what you get on the equivalent Steiner. Having seen it under nods I agree, though that's not to say I think it's weak.
Others stated that the IR laser is lower output than the high end steiners, but under nods the beams looked pretty damn similar to me.
>>32844252
>>32844022
Also keep in mind I'm talking about the DBAL-A3 and DBAL-D2. I found the A3's adjustable illumination to provide further range than the ATPIAL-C's, and the D2 smoked it pretty cleanly.
Again the laser itself I could not tell much a difference between the 3, or the i2 for that matter most of the time. I'm pretty sure the laser on all 3 is hitting max allowed under regulations.
ok last one
good night /arg/
>>32844252
The reason the steiner appears brighter is because you can focus the beam. It's still a 1Mw diode but can be focused to a point. The ATPIAL-C however uses a 3Mw diode. Now because the FDA says 1Mw or lower; L3 had to fix their illuminator so that any one given point that was measured is 1Mw or below. Both the Steiner and ATPIAL civil versions a good. But from what I hear from people who use NVGs for a living, the i2 aren't that good.
>knowledge
>>32844339
>assuming civi models

So weaker is not the right way to put it then, but due to the adjustable focus you the DBALs provide a much "stronger" option on the illuminator front as I've seen them light shit up hundreds of yards out where the ATPIAL-C's flood, while still good, is limited due to the lack of focus.
The i2 is basic bitch tier. I bought it because as I said, I dabbled with NV maybe a handful of times per year with buddies. I also had the 952v to provide IR illumination, though that seemed to leave quite a bit to be desired when I was messing around.
Once I get a PVS14 I'll most definitely be investing in a better unit, whether that's the ATPIAL-C or the DBAL...likely the A3 if I go that route.
The ATPIAL-C gets bonus points for looking cooler and being seemingly more wear and shock resistant, as is to be expected given its .mil roots.

I had a bunch of shit typed up on my phone but captia never showed up.
Correct on your first thought. I'm off to bed. Feel free to hit me up with NVGs, laser questions or whatever
>>32844474
Heading that way myself, will likely be hitting you up at some point as I've got a line on a PVS14 at a damn good price, just trying to firm the deal up.
Need to start looking at mounting hardware, bump helmets, etc. I always got stuck with a fucking skull crusher and there's no fucking way I'm doing that if I own the damn unit.
Later dude.

6.5 Grendel. From my reading, it's a little better than 6.8 SPC until you get further out. .300 blk only if your hunting close up. .223 is doable if legal, but I wouldn't be comfortable using it personally.
Any rifle scope mount recommendations for a Trijicon rs24?
Looking at LaRue, but open to other options (if I can save some money, that would be great too)
>>32844958
Larue is meme and will destroy your rail. All Larue mounts are hot trash variants of the very first mount Mark Larue Tactical ever made, just with varying dimensions. No innovation or revision at all.
Your choices are ADM if you're on a budget, or go with geissele, brobro, or gdi
>>32844970
I'm pretty much new to this whole fucking optic world, but what should I exactly be looking for? I know I do want QD, and for the scope to hold zero.
What's a good replacement mount for my shitty Primary Arms mount? Daniel Defence? I was going to go with an absolute cowitness.
>>32844995
Any of those mounts will do the job.
Larue will do the job too, but it's an ancient design that doesn't limit in any way the compression on your rail. If it's not adjusted correctly, it will literally grind and deform your rail until it's out of spec.
Modern mounts will limit the amount of clamping force--if the mechanisms are out of adjustmemt, they won't close.
>>32845012
Alright, thanks. So an ADM mount will suffice and perform better than larue? If so, Isuppose I'll purchase one within 2 weeks.
>>32845030
It will not 'outperform' Larue.
It will offervreturn to zero.
It will prevent you from inadvertently damaging your rail with too much clamping force.
>>32845040
Thanks for your input, greatly appreciated.
>>32844970
This is unabashed truth. Larue gained a cult following with mid-life crisis tryhards based of a flawed design and the literal memes he packages with his mounts. Other tryhards saw the "especially the snipers" and "extremely right wing" tier memes, the pretty disgusting seasoning and the bottle opener and decided they had to join the club to. It steamrolled to where it is now.
ADM offers the same reliability, same ability to "return to zero" and the same grade of materials for a fraction of the price, minus all memes and as a cherry on top uses an objectively better locking system that prevents the mount from being able to dig into the rail to the extent that it will cause massive deformation.
Geissele and Bobro offer the first real legitimate step up from ADM and Larue territory, Bobro more than Geissele.
Larue had the right timing to become successful, that's it.

Morning /k/ :^)
I'm hoping that I can finally post my rifle this weekend. My upper is still at the gunsmith. Getting my SFMB pinned. I don't have a MIG welder, and I would have done it myself if I did.

LaRue, ADM, Geiselle.
Depends on your budget. Any aimpoint t1 mount will work, though.
Not really caring for the B5 stock, personally. I may try to sell it and get something different.
>>32844998
get an ADM, no reason to spend 130 on a mount that is gonna go under a 100 dollar optic
>>32846039
should have bought enhanced
>>32846039
what do you not like about it? is it the bravo?
>>32846047
I don't know. It just doesn't shoulder right for me. I've always used magpul stuff, so maybe I'm just not used to it yet. I do like how thick the butt pad is.
>>32846044
Mayhaps. Just didn't feel like I would ever use the storage.
>>32846041
>$130
It's literally $80 though. I'm not getting a QD since it's just a red dot.
Are there any good red dots for under $200? By good I mean it holds a zero. Doesn't have to be fancy.
>>32846103
MD-ADS. 50k hour battery life and will take a decent beating. Not Aimpoint tier beating but it's still pretty fucking good.

Would a Harbor Freight 20-200 in-lbs torque wrench be reliable to +/- 1 in-lbs at a 20 in-lbs setting, which is the low end of adjustment
>>32846210
>Would a Harbor Freight 20-200 in-lbs torque wrench be reliable
>>32846223
I just want to do this right
>>32846234
Within 1in-lb at the bottom of the adjustment range is a lot to ask of any torque wrench.
>>32846210
>>32846234
If you want it accurate to within 1 in-lb you're definitely looking at spending over a hundred on the torque wrench. Not even my Wheeler is consistently that accurate.
Harbor Freight or Northern Tools or any other budget, mail-order tool company isn't going to be accurate to TEN in-lbs. I don't know how they can continue selling them, they're beyond worthless.

>>32846338
You can test it with a weight, vise, ruler, and string. Find out
>>32846485
I've considered. If I put an Allen wrench in the bolt and attach a 9 pound weight 2 inches out of the axis it should apply 18 inch-pounds I think. I could even use a trigger weight gauge to get the weight right if I had one.
I just ordered one from midway with 2 day shipping. Oh well
>>32846348
No.
>>32846210
20 in/lbs can be achieved by using a bit driver and getting them tight by hand. It's that simple unless you have the hand strength of a child.
That's all the force required, if you are using a ratchet wrench you are guaranteed to over torque them. Don't overthink this shit.

>>32846587
>if you are using a ratchet wrench you are guaranteed to over torque them
Unless it's a torque limiting/click type torque ratcheting wrench
I know I can get it there with a regular bit driver, I just don't know where "there" is and I'm liable to overtorque them or leave them too loose. I want to do it right so I can loctite it and forget about it.
>>32846726

>>32846834
It's 20 in/lbs, when you get an actual torque wrench and use it you will be surprised at how little torque it actually is.
Vibratite the bolts and snug them up nice and tight with whatever you have lying around, it will be fine.

The rail is super thin which I like a lot. It's also (surprise) a lot more sturdy than the $20 airsoft rail I had before.
It's no straight yet because I haven't had a chance to get to my vice and actually torque the nut on. It uses a standard barrel nut so I will have to make sure I get it perfectly aligned so that the rail is even with the receiver
