I've been thinking of adding something to make this more interesting. What would be some good STALKEResque add-on tasks for those who roll dubs when posting in this thread looking for a location?

For example, if your post has:
>dubs of 00 - You must also bring over the skull of the pseudodog (any med or large animal skull, hunted or scavenged)
>dubs of 11 - Find the perfected suit (scavenge some weird outfit from abandoned site)
>dubs of 22 - Protect the stalkers camp at the Garbage from the bandits' assault (heavily booby trap and/or barricade an abandoned building)
>dubs of 33 - Steal the box from the army outpost (scavenge any box of junk from an abandoned building)
>dubs of 44 - Find the documents in X16 lab (find and photograph interesting files or papers from a site)
And so on, etc.
So all sub quests must be documented with a time stamp, like the date on a sheet of paper or whatever in the photo.

What would be some good quests?

Just recently found out that the grain elevator in my small town are abandoned, despite being literally a 5 minute walk from the bustle of town. Pic related.

Well, the first thing that comes to my mind is the Abandoned Mojave Airport in SoCal. (that would be my first pic).
But searching online,
there's Cosson Hall in SanFran,
J's Amusement Park in the Guerneville woods,
Chemung Mine in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest,
and the remains of a former dairy farm run by the Camarillo State Mental Hospital.
>>
>>32842106
hey at least you have some national forests. I'm in eastern south dakota where we're 90+% farmland and the closest national forest is like 350 miles away

I thought this might be useful, but looking through for my area they're not just abandoned, they don't exist anymore. still, someone might find some use out of it

There's the abandoned town of Melmont in the Mount Rainier area,
The ghost town Molson near the Canadian border (supposedly a good spot to find artifacts),
The abandoned town of Lester, just south of Snoqualmie Pass.
Nike missile site in Redmond,
and the Cowlitz Motel and RV Park.

MASTER DIFFICULTY:
The Northern State Hospital/asylum in Sedro-Woolley.
A few of the buildings here are still in use as Job Corps facilities, but there's still a number of unoccupied structures that stand. You can head out and explore the deteriorating spots if you're stalker enough. (beware of bloodsuckers.)

There are many abandoned places on state game land thats legal to have a nugget with you. And it's not a problem if the structure is truly abandoned, open (there's no closed doors) and not posted. But it depends on your local laws, some places are stricter than others due to crime. Where do you live, California, NJ or somewhere else?

Yes. It's illegal in every state to trespass. If you get caught with a firearm trespassing that is a felony. But part of the fun of doing the challenges are the risks. If you get caught you aren't a s.t.a.l.k.e.r.

t.someone who has done over 15 stalker challenges always armed and always trespassing.

State game lands are hunting grounds. In some states certain animals are always in season, no bag limit. So "hunt" those if you're worried about Natural Resources Police. Also, any abandoned structure on state game lands belongs to state game lands, in other words, if you're "hunting" you're not trespassing as long as you didn't break and enter into whatever you decided to take shelter in, as long as it wasn't posted. Just scope out the area first before busting out the vodka and putting on your gas mask if you're worried.

Probably not a good idea to use glasses with a mask. You risk not having a good seal and that could be fatal. That being said, if you have small frames you could try an Israeli one, M95, or a FM12 mask.
The FM12 offers adapters for prescription glass inserts. You then take those adapters to an eye clinic and have them make glass to fit them and insert them in the adapters.

Also the A-P22P-14(V)2 fit over glasses but those are bulky.

IIRC, the concern with PBF filters wasn't asbestos but that the activated carbon was treated with Chromium, on it's own it's not an issue with new production filters as you would have to breathe in a significant amount of AC to get a slightly increased risk of cancer, and that doesn't happen unless the filter breaks in some way.

I'd just use it sparingly, or attempt to open the filter and replace the activated carbon if you really want to use it, but keep in mind, the filters are old enough that they really only fully protect against particulates.

So, family owns several thousand acres in south Alabama. Used to go camping when I was younger. Would love to give this challenge a try. Question is, at what point does a structure cease to be a structure? There are remains of building in a few places on our land, but some of them have been reduced to little more than a brick wall or pile of rubble (from what I hear they were old cottages from like 1910). Would camping near them count? Or are they too destroyed? (Might still yield artifacts)

Also I will note that this land is near a reservation and some spooky shit has gone down in the past.

Across the river in STL here.

Lots of abandoned industrial shit downtown but not sure if that'd be a good idea due to a combination of homeless druggies and a largely apathetic but huge police presence. Would want to be armed for the former but would get shit on for being armed by the latter unless you're really good about not getting caught.

Alternatively there's a lot of abandoned farm outbuildings down in Jefferson County but that's boring and pedestrian unless you're just looking for a place to get high.

Other hamonica songs from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. are "Wenn die Soldaten durch die Stadt marschieren" and "Lili Marleen". You might find tabs for them somewhere. "Wenn die Soldaten" was written before the Dritten Reich and "Lili Marleen" is a love song. Police here detain at least one Jihadist cell ready to attack every week (because they want to take Al Andalus back and we are pretty close to Africa)). Our security forces are operator as fuck even if our government don't give them enough funds. But I suppose I could be able to sneak in the Metro when it is closed since we have a few parts where the rails go to the surface. But what I should say if I get caught exploring the Metro? Should I bring some spray cans with me to say that I was just going to paint some graffiti or what?

The only cool thing that I've scouted out is a nuclear power plant but it's fully operational and obviously has tight security. Maybe I could try camping in the woods nearby, would that be stalker-y enough?

Hey guys, just found out about these challenges a few minutes ago, and read the sticky. I'm roping in a buddy or two now, and planning on a place for our first challenge. Just wanna confirm that I have the right idea:
>Go to abandoned places and facilities
>Take pictures to prove
>Look for documents or artifacts specifically
>Bonus points if you camp there, and extra bonus points if you do it with limitations on equipment (gonna be tough since I'm in a city right now)
>Meant to carry a gun or weapon of some kinda

Did I miss anything? Are there any particular places that should be explored, or is it more of case of "explore whatever, just do it in the spirit of exploration" kind of thing?

We'll most likely be picking the Tourist scenario to start with, but I'm interested in other ones too.

I got a few OC stories for you, but I only found out about these threads a few minutes ago, so the aren't stalker specific. I'm not American either, so might not have been actual skinwalkers. Lot of tribal stuff around here though, so who knows.

>Out jogging
>A running trail in jogging distance from my house
>This particular stretch of trail is in eyesight of some houses, but a big road nearby and a few factories. Kinda backs onto a huge swath of wetlands
>Be jogging around at night; only stuff I have on me is my phoneand earbuds
>The trail reflects a lot of light from the factories in the distance, who leave their lights on, and any light from the nearby roads or houses
>You can see on the trail itself, is what I'm saying
>Something mangey scuttles across the trail a little way in front of me
>Foxes are known in my area, so this isn't really a massive cause for alarm
>Keep jogging, but slow down, since getting mauled by a feral fox isn't fun
>See something scuttle across again, but this time it pauses halfway through
>Head flicks around to stare at me
>Creepy, but fuck it, foxes are weird
>Realise it's pretty long for a fox; same height, but almost double the length, which I didn't notice before due to the distance
>"Fuck, that's weird. Probably a mutant or some shit"
>It slowly walks off the trail, while looking at me- very strange for foxes
>A few seconds later I hear that scream foxes make; like a human yowling. Weird, and it coincides with that long thing getting to where I know a few foxes live
>This is weird. I've slowed to a walk, removed my earbuds, and quickly scan around me, and try to get my breathing under control. I also walk on the grass next to the trail to make less sound.
>At this point I'm slightly rattled, since it's dark, and figure the jog is over
I start making my way back

Not sure how new you are but,
This challenge is based off the video game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
which is based off the movie "Stalker" by Andrei Tarkovsky which was based off the book "Roadside Picnic" by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky.

So the challenge is done in the spirit of the video game.

Also
>GET OUT OF HERE STALKER
>>

Cont because I need to get a few of these stories off my chest.

This trail is a gravel/packed dirt trail, with some sort of orangey gravel ove rit. On one side is a dip in the land; it goes down quite steeply, and then a few meters past that, it rises again, and there are the fences of several houses on the other side. Dense trees and bush between though. On the other side, there is a hill, with a few small trees, and a few very dense patches, before a dip, some sugar cane, a creek and then a bunch of flat barren land, with patches of thick shrubbery, before the factories off in the distance.
>Anyway, I'm rattled and heading home
>Staying near the hill part, I want to stay away from the dip in the land
>See something run back across the trail behind me; if it was as small as a fox, I wouldn't have seen it
>Move up onto the hill/inclined part
>Have a decent view of everything, which calms me down; nothiing coming towards me, but I'm closer to the dense sugar cane
>Approach one of the patches of foliage
>See a branch shake
>Probably a fucking bat
>Wait...that branch was too low to the ground to shake. And it moved too much. Something large is there
>Hear a weird panting
>I back down onto the trail, and grab a fistfull of dust in my left hand, and activate my phone's torch with my right
>Scan around, but can't see much
>Branch is still waving, shits clearly been disturbed
>Stop, make it seem like I'm confused. Start towards the tree...
>...I twist and change direction, sprint for my life towards the road
>Takes me a few minutes, but I somehow manage to get there
>I think I ran almost 3 k's
>As I was running I hear a huge yowl, and occasionally see the sugar cane parallel to me disturbed

I made it home, and was thoroughly spooked, but whatever it was seemed to back off when I made it past some houses. Went looking around the next day; found a dead fox.

Pretty lame story I know, but I have more if there's interest.

>I'm glad I saved my pasta from last thread
It is what you make it. To do it best find something abandoned or unnaground. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is not all that innawoods but if nothing else works than camping near a rusted out car or barn in the woods, do it.

Here is what you do:
>pick a challenge
>get a harmonica, (just learn as you go)
>carry as little as possible
>bring boolits for bloodsuckers + skinwalkers
>bring pistol and/or rifle
>eat only canned food, sausages, bread and such (remove the labels) or hunt small game
>make a hobo stove from a can
>start memorizing some old Russian songs and general phrases in Russian
>use a tarp as rain protection in camp (shelter halves or bivy works too)
>dress in slavshit, a must
>go to your nearest city
>rustbelt is best for this
>find the now defunct industrial district
>find a building that isn't in murdertown
>take up residence
>start moving from building to building and make sure the entire area is abandoned
>like if someone sees you they don't report you type of abandoned
>really get away from the world, challenge yourself to keep you phone on airplane and use it only as a camera (do challenge in one charge and document your adventure in the zone)
>squat around in the woods with vodka
>bonus points for gasmask or balaclava
>play the fuck out of that harmonica or guitar
>have fun, you are being a total retard for the hell of it and because some anonymous fucker on the internet is telling you it is a good idea, too. Don't take it too seriously, but if you want to go all out try to stay in an accent the whole time

Me personally I take my mate. He takes some pictures, we play guitar and shoot trees, we drink a bit, debate on ak's, chernobyl wildlife, vodka's effects on radiation, stare at the sky by fire (while squatting).
Just make of it what you want. But photograph it to post here. Always.

Have fun, fellow S.T.A.L.K.E.R, get out there and be cheeki breeki.

>ask if you have more questions
>>
>>32865911

Fuck, I just read my story, it was lame. Here's a less shit one. I'm the same anon if anybody cares. Don't worry, no boring ass foxes in this one.
>Be camping with Grandpa, Cousin, Uncle and Dad
>Grandpa, Cousin and Uncle are all same side of the family and from the country
>Dad is also from the country, but a different area
>I and my cousin were both young, mid teens? I was the only retarded city kid who hadn't grown up in the country
>Anyway, camping out in the bush by a river
>Have tents set up around a fire, and cars parked behind those by a few meters to block and wind
>I was a huge nerd with no head for survival back then; I think I was sharpening sticks with a pocketknife since I thought it was cool
>Cousin basically called me a nerd; same age as me, but a lot rougher back then
>Pretty sure he thought I was weird; I liked anime, did martial arts and didn't shoot shit
>Day goes well, try to catch fish, fail, and scout the campsite; a lot of dense bushland
>Later on, we set up the fire, and use a bunch of the drywood I'd gathered
>I actually think I earned some respect for managing to find decently dry wood; there was rain the day before
>We;re telling ghost stories around the campfire, Grandpa goes out to piss
>Hear a yowling in the distance
>Nice fucking try Grandpa
>Wasn't the same direction he went off in, so it was a good attempt
>He comes back from the direction he set off in
>"What was that?"
>Oh fuck
>We hear it slightly closer
>Maybe it's a wild animal?
>A scent wafts close on the wind
>Like when you hold a coin in your palm on a hot day for a few minutes, and smell it
>A coppery smell; when I first read a skinwalker story I shit myself, since they always seem to describe the exact scent I smelled that night
>The yowling is getting closer
>Grandpa and Uncle point rifles in the direction
>Cousin points air rifle
>Dad and I look at each other, and he draws a big ass hunting knife
>I have a cheap pocket knife and a sharpened stick

bit more backstory. in the book aliens visit the earth, but they take no notice of us and even we don't notice them. we only notice what happened after they left. there are 5 or 6 areas (few square kms each) in the world that have been radically transformed. the areas are very dangerous so the un has a tight lockdown on them, but the visitation has left interesting objects behind that are very valuable on the black market (artifacts). that's where stalkers come in. they sneak into these zones, try not to die by the various dangers present only in the zones, find interesting items, and get back out alive

the title of the book (roadside picnic) is pretty neat. think about a picnic you'd have in a park. you'd bring a blanket, a basket full of food, some drinks, maybe a radio. when you're done, you grab your things but you inevitably leave some things behind. they're likely worthless things like a bottle cap, bread crumbs, and apple cores, but you might also lose a bit of money, a pocket knife, or some oil might leak out of your car. when we leave, insects and animals come out to investigate what we left behind and end up finding value in some of it. we ended up being as insignificant to the aliens as ants are to us

I haven't actually played the games, but they have a similar situation with a different premise. instead of aliens visiting, the chernobyl disaster transformed the surrounding land leading to mutated animals, dangerous anomalies, and of course valuable artifacts

most people here have the games as their reference point. the book is fantastic and is one of my favorites. the movie is well made, but I didn't really care for it much. bit pretentious, or maybe I just wasn't in the right mood when I saw it.
