This is Texas saying that a group of anons has found the location of Ezed's cryptid/sloth, whatever you want to call it story. Will start by posting original story and proof as well.

Also, we are attempting to put together a band of merry companions to scope out the location and determine the truth of the story. That will be taking place sometime this summer.

Those are the coordinates of the bend described, and here is the google maps image of said coordinates, it can be seen that there are many wells, as well as what appears to be a snow covered rock that is the exact size and shape of the rock described in the story.

So how will you be getting there? Convoy? all car pooling?

Please be prepared to document the area extensively. Use you cellphones and cameras to snap pictures. If possible, you all should try to camp out there. Illegal camping would be easy enough, drive off road a bit, put the car behind some trees and you're golden.

Guys I can tell you with certainty, having grown up in an area similar to where you're talking about going, this is a bad fucking idea if you guys don't know what you're doing. I hope you all are at a minimum a competent group of people. There's definitely shit to be found out there though.

If you at least know how to shoot well under pressure and can survive on your own for an indefinite period in the wild you'll have a fighting chance but otherwise you're all going to be incompetent, get in each others way, and overall get you're fucking shit rekt.
>>
>>32831911
Unfortunately having grown up in CT and poorfag until about 3 years from now when I have my business finance degree, I have nothing other than my limited wilderness knowledge and somewhat witty jokes. >Implying people don't go missing up there
You know what go for it, what's the worse that can happen
>>
>>32831193
Okay, I'll bite. Here's what you need.
First, everyone has a gun. Not some pansy-ass handgun, get a rifle. A hunting rifle. A big one. No, not .308, get a 30-06 minimum. Get a magnum if you can (7mm, .300 WinMag). Iron sights will be alright. If you're going to put glass on it, get something with low magnification. This isn't going to be Cabela's Big Game Hunt, you don't need that 9x scope. Get something like a 1-4x. Something simple and easy to use on the fly. If you can't afford a hunting rifle, get a 12g shotgun and load it with slugs. Some suggest alternating 00 buckshot and slugs, others say to keep it simple. No matter which you get, learn to use it quickly and effectively. You're going to use it defensively, not taking a 600yd shot, more like 50yds or less. Also, bring ammo. Like, figure how much you'll need per person, then double that. Just in case.

Next, bring food and water. Enough to last everyone a couple days. If you get stranded or lost you'll thank me. Bring topographical maps and any other information about the area you can find. Bring extra layers of clothes. If you go underground or stay out after dark the temperatures can easily drop 50 degrees. Bring lights. Big ones, and lots of them. Bring extra batteries, too. Bring cameras. Your phones will be... alright... but a dedicated camera will be better. That way you're not sucking the life out of your phone whenever you take a photo. If you can afford it, bring walkie-talkies in case the group gets split up. Bring first-aid supplies and KNOW HOW TO USE IT. Make sure there's more than one person trained up on it, and more than one kit. Just in case.

Finally, make sure everything you bring with you can be carried back out on foot. If for whatever reason you can't drive back out, you need to be ready to hike. Expect this. Plan to hike unless the car miraculously doesn't break down.
>>
Don't see any cabins in the Google Earth pics but the local geography seems to check out.

If you actually do find the cabins, take a shitton of pictures and maybe even record the whole thing on camera. You'd be surprised with the number things you don't see at first ending up in a video.

Also bring back some artifacts if you find any. Wish I could help you guys out but I live in Cuckifornia and I can't leave my job behind to do this.
>>
>>32832112
yes, but you would think that someone would have seen, or found some type of track, shit or other marking indicating a large animal in the area.

>>32832187
thank-you for the advice anon, unfortunately, having grown up in CT, I have yet to learn how to fire a gun. The survivalist skills are much appreciated, I would have thought to bring extra food and water, but walkie talkies and lights are a great idea.

this is why I am slightly worried and would probably bring at least a handgun that I would have learned to fire by that point. Realistically, if you hit a mountain lion with a straight shot to the head, it would die right? Although I'd imagine a large caliber rifle would be ideal in terms of stopping power.

>>32832377

The thing about mountain lions is, they're god damn ninjas. You usually have no clue they're there, until it's pretty much on top of you, sinking it's teeth into the back of your neck, as it's sharp teeth sever your nerves system, you die a slow death.

No, I'm serious, they're the nose elusive creatures out there, scientists don't know if there is ten thousand of them, or fifty thousand.

They can also leap about 40 feet forward, been know to kill full grown bears.
>>
>>32832430
Stopping power is an irl meme and while shooting under stress aiming for the head of anything is a crapshoot since your shots will be all over the fucking place. Aim for centermass. Although, if you're expecting to go against something bear sized or bigger in the wilderness, you'd best go with at least 10mm or .44 Magnum in a handgun, and your choice of rifle caliber (although I wouldn't go with less than a .308). The reason for that is that big animals like bears have thick bodies with a lot of fur, fat, muscle mass, and dense bones that will require something that can penetrate all that. At the very least bring some bear mace in case you run into a real animal so you don't end up in this year's darwin awards.
>>
>>32832481
Fuck that shit. So how do you prepare for them? Kevlar hockey neck protector and a big ass knife on your chest/backpack strap in case it jumps on your back?

A lot of ppl believe that putting fake eyes on the back of your hat, will help reduce a chance of a mountain lion attack. Due to it always attacking it's prey from behind. I try that out, it's always good to have more ppl and a gun.

Unless you're a handloader or willing to buy handloads, you won't be getting much use from 30-06 over .308. Most factory 30-06 is loaded to almost the same specifications as .308.

That said, do bring magnum rifle calibers if you can.

I know this is /k/ and we shoot shit, but why do we have to be so cruel to weird shit we find in the woods? It's not like this thing did much more than scream, and the story at the very end almost implies the creatures being helpful by laying out the plane crash victim's bodies for the retrieval crew.

Yeah, they were probably gonna rip OP's face off if they caught him, but he shot cousin Eddie for screaming, and he probably only screamed because another one of those hairless apes was intruding on his homestead.

On the contrary, I don't willingly fuck around with grizzly bears. Or mountain lions, or cryptids, or whatever. I stay away from them if I can help it and I'd only shoot them if I absolutely had to. Dude could've probably ran without shooting the thing and he would've been fine.
>>
>>32832861

I remember this pasta, cool to see you found a similar location to the one in the story on Google Earth. Unfortunately, from what I can tell, the direction the guy claims he drove up from on his map actually seems to be a dead end at that Google Earth location, so I'm not too sure if that would actually be it. Then again he claims this happened many years ago, so maybe there was more of a road leading back to the highway back then. Who knows.

Also, interestingly enough there's another creepypasta set in the same area (the Hidden Lakes in the Ruby Mountains) involving a similar-sounding creature. Pic related. Coincidence, imitator, or what?

However the biggest thing that keeps me from wanting to commit is A) That chance someone gets horribly fucked up. B) Someone dies and has to explain why someone died for such a stupid reason to the dead persons family. C) I'm not confident I can stop a goddamn werebadger even with 7.62 NATO and thats if I were able to afford the time and money to practice for a few times a month.

I don't think this is the correct location. The mine and house location do not match a mine and structure location at the point in question.

The mine is to the left of the road, and the structure is located in between the hairpin turn, not on the outside (right) as the story depicts.

This is dumb. I would rather be able to put 10 rounds of 5.56 into something rather than take a fucking bolt action. Generally speaking if you magdump towards an animal it will fuck off. Assuming this thing is real all your advice is gonna do is get some retards killed because they thought they'd be able to hit something and work a bolt quickly under stress.

(very) thick, or well angled sub-dermal bone plates perhaps? similar to the skull, and shoulders of a boar from the front. natural armoring, and the suggested mass of these beasties might allow it to tank 7.62 NATO.

Hey there /k/.
I live in Elko, about an hour away from Wells itself. My curiosity is piqued, and while I'm not actually going, mainly since I try to avoid abandoned mine shafts and other such places at all costs, I would recommend you check out some of the Government buildings here and hit them up. From my understanding Wells mainly has field offices for the government, Elko is where a lot of the government agencies like the Bureau of Land Management, Department of Wildlife, etc. have offices. More likely than not you can perhaps get some information at these locations from anyone who's willing to help. I haven't known government bureaucrats around here to be especially bad people so they might be more cooperative. Ezed mentioned Wendover Air Base as well, you might ask around some of the government offices in West Wendover and see if they'll be any help. There's also a gun store near Mountain City Highway in Elko to stock up on extra supplies and ammo you need. Good Luck this summer!

>>32831977
My thoughts exactly. If there really is something out there the size of a bear 5.56 won't do shit to stop it and even 7.62 would be a stretch. I have an M14, some ARs and a shotgun plus I live in Nevada though I'm Vegas. I'm thinking the best would be the shotgun with some exotic rounds I have, DDupleks Monolit 3" magnum steel slugs, they go through i beams. If that can't kill it it is not mortal. Also I have DDupleks Hexolit and DuPo28 rounds. Look them up, they are the nastiest rounds money can buy.

I'd feel much better with folks that have NVGs and thermal scopes. Ideally with an extra to lend.

You have pretty much zero chance of hitting a mountain lion before it attacks you zero is about the chance you have of seeing it before it is on top of you. The way to defend against mountain lions is a pack of dogs, ideally big ones like shepherds. This if for two reasons, a dog will know it's there way before you have a chance to and also dogs can fight / tree the cat then you execute it.
>>
>>32832416
Shot placement. Hell, people have taken 7.62 rounds to the chest and lived. A big bear can soak up a whole magazine of 7.62 and still kill you, only a few rounds it may even just walk it off after it eats you, if you don't hit anything major.
>>
>>32845116

You aren't planning to stay the night but stuff happens, thermals are also useful in the day.

We need suppressed SCAR17s with thermal sights and peqs plus pvs helmet mounted to non dominant eye for spotting and close up IR laser point shooting, also on helmets, IFF beacons and integrated com's. Can be bump helmets, not anticipating return fire.

Also some 1+1 five pound concussive pipe bombs (small smokeless powder pipe bomb inside larger ANFO main charge unless someone wants to bake up some PETN or RDX) with electric triggers to be made into traps and or tossed for effect as needed.

To all of those who are crying about how shitty an idea it is, I remind you the first guy went with one HK91, very few supplies, and a truck. This expedition is in theory going to have a multitude of people, all well armed and I'd assume with more than one form of communication. It'll be fine, Ezed took one down with a couple of shots. As for the people that 'Never Returned', if they were truly missing news records would show it, it'd be a big deal about how some guys went looking for a mysterious creature and never came back. Occam's Razor applies here. Perhaps they just went to the wrong place and didn't find anything.

Cali anon here. Would love to go. I have wanted to go to the Ruby Mtns. for a while now. I'd be especially interested in going up to Hidden Lake (where that other story takes place). Those lakes must be beautiful in late spring.

I have my doubts as to the location being correct, but then again, it's not like E Zed's story happened yesterday. In any case, hiking out and exploring abandoned mines is always fun.

Anyone know where the plane crash sites in the area are? Those are tangible parts of history and would be nice to hike out to.

A few things:
- The posted coordinates are just ~3 mi of moderate hiking from pavement. One could feasibly explore this in an afternoon, on foot.

- June is better than July: I'm not familiar with this part of NV, but in CA water is more difficult to find later in the year. Crashing a truck and having to hike out sucks, but if there's water at least one can be reasonably certain it can be done.
