Agreed. I can't justify owning mags over $150 now for my personal stock, drums aside. If I won't take it shooting I can't make it work for me. That said I love having them pass through my hands to observe and fondle for a bit of time. The history on some of these items is incredible!

Just to play devils advocate, most places can install those parts for around $100. If cash is tight just put the retainer cost toward the end goal.

Did he get it from fleet farm? They were giving them away for $450 just a few months ago. If FF shipped rifles I would have maxed all my cards. Also be prepaired to replace the bullet guide.
>>
>>32829057
I'm not the guy that asked the question up there, but for me I was in a BIG hurry to put surplus furniture on it, so I ordered the CSS retainer and got some furniture. I had at that point decided to not bother with the FSB and GB but after a couple of years I said "fuck it, that neutered shit has got to go" so I found a smith and shipped her off. I never thought the lack of a bayonet lug and cleaning rod would bother me as much as it ended up bothering me.

I was told by the older gentleman he picked it up at a swap about 4 weeks ago, he didn't buy it himself, and he fired about 6 shots and just racked it and never messed with it, so it just sits there.

Wat, who only fired 6 shots? I don't believe that. It might be low round count but 6? cmon.
>>
>>32829936
I only believe the guy because he is like almost 70, he is a groundskeeper at a school. Grandfather was too, so I guess I have a soft spot for him, also I was talking to him about his PSA AR he didn't seem to know a lot about it, so believing he shot six shots for whatever reason, I find it somewhat believable, althought I find it weird.

Regardless, the guy wants to sell this WASR (10 or /63) 5 mags loaded, the sling and a case (not sure if soft or hard) for 575 local.

Yeah true if he's old that might be the case then. Definitely odd. I've only ever either had an unfired firearm or over 100 rounds. I've never went out and not shot at least 60 rounds. But I could see my grandfather doing something like that.

I believe since he got it from a previous owner, it has been broken in and all. He probably just wanted to try it, he said he wasn't an AK owner prior till, so I assume he just tried it out. Also, buddy of mine said the stocks look different from a typical WASR 10, the newer ones at least, not too sure. But I can pic dump if needed.

I got two of those $450 saigas from FF.

Question about bullet guide, how did you remove the old one. My guns have different trunnions, one is round - another is flat.
I removed the bullet guide from the round trunnion saiga, but still have some of the weld metal on it. I've been filing it off, but it's taking forever.

Did you just drill through the remaining welded metal it or did you remove it somehow before drilling/tapping?

My go to, in case I break a tap is to weld the new (correct) bullet guide in...
>>
>>32831404
Single points are awesome.
It's what I used when deployed. easiest to work around gear. Or just mount straight to the PC. Sucks when you need 2 free hands though as you can't just sling it on your back.
Slings that can do both single and double are better.
3 point slings are dumb as aids.
>>
>>32831539

I think that's a think with those for whatever reason. I seem to recall seeing one in person that didn't have a handle either.
>>
>>32831590
>Question about bullet guide, how did you remove the old one.

Mine is a flat trunion and it had no bullet guide in it at all. I just had to buy the flat bullet guide, drill the hole, tap it, and install the guide.

I'm so autistic, I like AKs better than ARs because they don't have a buffer that makes a sproing noise in your ear everytime you fire it

They make silent capture springs that get rid of the sproing.

Yeah they do. They're as close as a Russian factory made rifle as it gets, you just gotta put some work into converting them from the abominations they were imported as.

RWC converted the rear of them, but the front ends still need changed from the uggo handguards, as well as replacing the front sight block and gas block to be threaded and accept cleaning rods.

I actually am, still learning this AK thing.
Am I wrong? I thought that's what the SGL series was?
>>
>>32832801
The SGL is a Saiga but you have to understand that Saiga is just the name of Izhmash's civilian line. The Saigas you are talking about are commonly referred to as Saiga "sporters" because they've been sporterized for import and immediate sale. But there are also European model Saigas like the Saiga M-03.

There's a a number of differences between Saiga spotters and SGLs and several of them cannot be rectified no matter how much effort you put into it, unfortunately. Mostly boils down to the bullet guide and the extra holes the sporter has in the receiver. There's more but I'm going to sleep. Going through an exhaustive explanation of all the differences is pretty tiring.

generally its frowned on to be all fidgety.

Just be a man, establish a rapport, and do what you say you'll do. Nagging and shit negates the rapport, casts doubt on you'll do what you say you'll do, and suggests your unmanly

I've sent $1500 checks off to people for a gun a number of times
>>
>>32832871
>>32832853
I'll write up some of the negatives of the Saiga sporters compared to the SGLs I learned from Chimps and from elsewhere.

Extra holes in the receiver from the FCG being moved. This includes both trigger axis pins and the big trigger cutout on the bottom. There is also a hole on the front bottom of the receiver where the handguard is screwed in. People usually fill these in with plastic hole plugs.

No bullet guide from the factory. They don't come with nice factory new Russian AK100 barrel components or the proper rear sight leaf. Many have the big "Velcro patch" on the side of the receiver from a previous importer's company name being laser-etched off.

I probably missed something buy Chimps can fill you in tomorrow.

It's not really fidgety as much as just keeping him updated. As I said to him in this scenario, I like to be updated so I do the same for others out of respect.

His FFL wouldn't let me ship directly to them and said they needed it shipped from another FFL. This added unnecessary steps and cost me more to ship. Due to those unnecessary steps it's a longer process that added another person to the process, so I was updating him.

>>32833038
As far as asking it's because it's what I do when I don't know shit. People here generally seem to give better answers than people on forums trying to defend their purchases by saying everything they own is good. Has nothing to do with attention.

Like did I really need to be inconvenienced for a few seconds for that? There's also the idea that some people carry, myself included, that people who give way too much info are potential scammers in the same way someone with no comms might be. It always sketches me out at least when someone tries to overinform me. Not that you're really going that extra here

Welp, I had to ask.
Seems reverse dongs are increasingly harder to come by, at least for a reasonable price.
>or when they do pop up, they're gone in minutes.
There's a guy doing pretty good "conversions" on the files but I'd like to have the real deal.

The other replies might be right but there's no need for his response to be so pointed. Like what, are you sqaundering his precious internet kilobits or wasting his valuable seconds. How hard is it to hit reply and say "got it, thanks."

That would rub me the wrong way if I got that email, especially considering the fact that I still think you're trading down..

>>32833029
That's pretty much it. The most important thing being the bullet guide and the holes in the receiver. You can weld up the holes but.. they were still there. And it's going to be a real trick to actually rivet a bullet guide in a front trunnion that's already riveted in and has the barrel installed.

I can't speak for saiga mags specifically, but vepr 223 mags fit perfectly into my ak-74 mag well too.
It just takes some modification(pic related) so that you can lock them in. The bullet guide blocks them from locking in until you grind at an angle. 223 mags are easier to do than 545 mags too.
>>
>>32835389
Cheers, thanks for that

No problem. It's a very simple grind on 223 mags.
Then just try to put it in the rifle from time to time until it clears the bullet guide.

>>32835575
For me, it was a great excuse to get into a caliber I'd taken no real interest in up till then. And it was only a bit over 1000 so why not. Seemed like a great deal at the time to get a russian built rpk-74 clone, minus caliber.
Also, 556 tracers are fairly cheap and a lot of fun at dusk. That's what's in the 30rd promag on the table here.

This. I already have a Scorpion Evo; if I want another 9mm carbine I'm going to chase a QC10 AR9 instead so I can just pop a short barrel or stock on it once I have a stamp ready, rather than rolling the dice on a drama llama manufacturer pushing out a near-completely proprietary system with zero aftermarket support.

So, I went and fired a SLR and a WASR and I honestly couldn't tell the difference.
Is the only benefit to a SLR (or Sam7, SGL) the tatikool polymer? So I can masturbate to my all black AK?

Is there even a benefit, realistically?
I feel like if I wanted to waste the extra money I might as well just buy two WASR's and then just alternate them in use, which is obviously fucking retarded.

How long does it take USPS to move a package that was shipped Registered Mail? Do they carry them by foot from city to city now?
I had a package shipped and it was scanned saturday, about 300 miles away. It hasn't been updated since then. I'm trying to be patient but I've had Fedex and UPS get things all the way across the US faster than that.

I have almost 6 full spam cans of 7n6 but hate corrosive cleaning.
>>
>>32836992
I'm serious I feel like the more expensive one should work better, but that just doesn't seem like it's true.
Should I buy a /blackak/
>>
>>32837505
It may be that the more expensive one will last longer (10,000 rounds vs 50,000 rounds) (I pulled those numbers right out of my ass) before parts start needing replaced. Or the more expensive one might have fewer malfunctions. A big part of "do I buy gun A or gun B" comes down to the minor details about the guns that really won't have much of an affect (effect?) on how it goes bang and where the bullet ends up. Some people just prefer how this looks or how that looks.
A WASR is a perfectly acceptable AK. Not the best in the world, but certainly not the worst. It's a good first AK, so if you like it, buy it!
