What are some decent cheap optics options for an AR pistol?

I'm building an extreme budget pistol, but I don't want an eBay red dot.

Also, I'll post a pic of my Chinese eBay mlok rail if you guys have any good ideas. 38 bucks on eBay, it comes covered in FDE house paint and includes a brick of a barrel nut.

I don't want an M1 for this. It's not as fun as the AR platform and is really more of a "thing to have". If I want to shoot that occasionally I know a guy who will let me borrow it so...not really itchin it for it.

PTR-91s are banned.

95% sure PSA sold me a FUBAR barrel.

This is my second barrel from PSA and given their reputation outside of the PTAC line I just went ahead and bought what was available and sounded good, which in this case was the CHF nitride barrel. I should have noticed that there weren't any reviews for it and looked for something else.

Put the entire gun together before checking the headspace, and neither of the gauges fit at all - the GO gauge has a worse fit in the CHF barrel than the NOGO has in the stainless barrel.

Took a peek in the chamber and I'm pretty sure I've found the issue - pic related. In my stainless barrel there's a bevel along the chamber entrance that's wide enough to allow the bolt to rotate into place when chambering a round. I used a red line to highlight the size of this bevel.
By contrast the bevel on the CHF barrel is about half the size and also less shallow, making the face of the chamber look almost completely flat (not sure if this is the correct terminology but the picture should make it obvious enough what I'm talking about).

Has anyone else encountered this issue with a barrel, PSA or otherwise?
Obviously I would prefer that I'm being retarded and overlooking something, so please tell me if you think that's the case and my barrel is actually fine.

>>32789489
>>32789507
It seems like a major red flag to me that the chamber would look this different vs every other image of AR15 chambers I've looked at, but lets assume that's not the issue.
The chamber doesn't seem to be too thin since the gauges slide in fine - is there any way to test the length of the chamber other than the headspace gauges? I just want to be certain that the barrel's actually fucked before I write an angry letter to PSA and send the barrel back only for them to say that it's fine.

I can't imagine it would make a difference but I haven't cleaned the new barrel at all, could there be shit from the manufacturing process that might be screwing with the headspace?

Nah it definetly looks crooked to the naked eye, remember that the bolt lugs are working within a certain confine of rotational space to rotate and engage the cartridge, or in this case the gauge.

Are you chamber ingredients the gauge with the bolt in the carrier? Try hand feeding it with just the bolt. If it closes by hand, the extension is incorrectly timed.

1. I'm a retard, you said "barrel extension" and I though "feed ramps" (I've had a couple beers). Looking at them now, it's true that the lugs look a bit off compared to the Freedom barrel, but that could be due to a slightly different camera angle. In the end it doesn't matter too much because

2. Trying to chamber the gauge with only the bolt still results in the bolt not being able to turn freely within the barrel extension i.e. it won't clear the locking lugs. I also tried this with my Freedom barrel and the bolt can turn freely after feeding the gauge, so the issue with the CHF barrel must be chamber depth.

Is that the correct conclusion to draw here?

I see some tooling marks but not a ton. Of course the dark finish might be hiding some of them - it's much harder to see details with the nitride finish than with the stainless barrel.
Either way, my original point about the bevel made me assume they skipped a step somewhere so I'd say that's more likely now.

Thanks for the help, sucks sending it back but at least I feel more confident that I'm not missing anything.

MBT is excellent for 5.56 but I wouldn't recommend any two stage trigger for a 9mm. It's too dirty and the recoil is too violent to safely employ a two stage.

I had an SSA-E and a RRA NM trigger in my 9mm at various times, and would get frequent doubles and triples because the recoil impulse is so harsh, it knocks the hammer off the disconnector before the sear can catch it. I even had this happen with a RRA 9mm single stage trigger.

I put an ALG QMS in and that stopped. It's not a great trigger, but it's safe and it works for blasting. 9mm ARs are not precision guns anyway.

I tried senpai. They seem to be sold out everywhere. All the other AR forum posts I looked through were way out of date, and I was wondering if there was something I missed.

What is your budget
>Streamlight Protac Rail Mount 2
>Surefire M600 Scout

Both have plenty of reach. Streamlight is compatible with most Scout mounts, except inline mounts in my experience due to different tailcap dimensions.

For closer range, M300 scout or Pro Tac Rail mount 1 will do fine

Pistol lights like TLR or X series have their place, but after replacing TLR1 HL with Protac I was happier

For a red dot, imo Trijicon MRO offers best combination of price, durability, batter life etc. for around $500 including mount
>>
>>32790795
Have a couple of options at different price points? Honestly don't know what a decent price is for either.
>>
Wish there was a logical increments style page for all this. So many options...
>>
>>32790803
>Streamlight
$50-$150 sometimes $200 if you really top out, rare anyone would ever spend $200 on Streamlight

>Surefire
$200-$400

>Surefire builds
Arisaka defense scout body, surefire head/malkoff head etc $150/$250

>Other manufacturers
Elzetta is good quality, couldn't give you prices off the top of my head

Optics
>under $200
Vortex Sparc/Strikefire

Good quality, battery life tends to suck

>Under $500
Vortex Razor, Primary Arms, MRO (typically without "good" mount if you can find it) used Aimpoints

>Under $1000
Aimpoints
MRO with good mount
Various ok but not particularly special red dots from non-typical red dot manufacturers like Leupold/Zeiss

For magnified...
>>
>>32790803
aim surplus has mros for 400 with a factory mount
scalarworks sells them for 550 with one of the best ones
>>
>>32790869
Aim surplus lists them for 500

>>
>>32790875
they are 400 bro, use your eyes
>>32790880
durability and reliability mostly
cheapest I would go on a self defense rifle is an mro
>>
>>32790880
In my experience, barring you buying a total piece of shit

Typically battery life is a big difference

The upper end of brightness settings not looking like shit is another one, which is good to have if you are using a light and have your brightness cranked so it dosmt get lost in the 800 lumen blast from a TLR 1 HL etc.
>>
>>32790880
Cheap optics are a waste of money, in general.
>>
>>32790899
>>32790904

Yeah. They're pretty rad.

If you can spring for it, I'd recommend a dedicated upper and barrel to go with it, both to keep .22 filth out of your main upper and also because 5.56 twist rates aren't great for .22LR.

Very fun though.

>>
>>32790922
cool, very unlikely I would get a dedicated 22lr upper/barrel, defeats my purpose of wanting to saving $ by shooting 22lr instead of 223/556 ammo, also would take up much more case space
>>
>>32790922
>>32790952
I had a cmmg dedicated 22lr upper and it never worked. you'd be lucky to get off a single round. mostly fail to fires, and failures to chamber / extract. it's been in a box for years because I don't wanna fuck with it.
>>
>>32790945
I got hte 1/3 cuz cowitness was out of stock
>>
>>32791011
How do you like it?

Of the couple of video's I've watched, everyone is using the 300 yd aperture and listing a con of the co-witness as limiting sight. As I understand it, red dots aren't really meant for distance shooting so why is this even being brought up as an issue? Seems that you would want the larger opening for use with the red dot, then turn it off if you needed to shoot at distance?
>>
>>32791035
basically 1/3 lets you use irons a bit better THROUGH the optic
if you have a QD system, I don't really see why it matters personally
If you have a FSP i would run with the 1/3
the cowitness also lets you zero your sight to your irons and vice versa
also keep in mind depending on stock, your optic might be a little bit more comfy with specific ones, but most AR stocks are streamlined to a point where it's not an issue

I haven't got it yet, but i've used them and they are pretty great for the money, there is a slight fisheye but it's not noticeable when shooting
the slight blue tint doesn't bother me either
>>
>>32791069
I have a front post but was thinking of removing it. I dont know that it really matters to be honest since I dont care about ricing this out and im no a super cool ultra tactical operator wanna be.
>>
>>32791097

>>
>>32791106
Core15, nothing fancy on it.
>>
>>32791117
Is that a midlength?
I had a 6920, and I can tell you right now, that it is NOT worth what you are going to put into it
you will be better off selling it and getting a better AR
if you really don't want the tactical shit, don't worry about it bro just have fun
>>
>>32791110
it has a carbine gas, if that doesn't bother you it looks like a good deal
>>
>>32791128
What constitutes a mid lengh? 15 inch barrel.
>>
>>32791139
no, it's where the gas goes to the gas tube at you have from shortest distance to longest
pistol>carbine>mid>rifle
my rifle in between mid and rifle (it's proprietary to my rifle)
the longer the gas, the smoother the gun runs due to less gas going into your key (which cycles the bolt)
carbines are SLIGHTLY overgassed, meaning increased wear (slightly) and a little more push on the shoulder
generally speaking, it's better to have a mid on a 16 inch barrel than a carbine
you still have many companies going with carbine length still though (the military m4s have carbine gas)
>>
>>32791139
mid length is where the gas port is located
you can have a 16 with a carbine gas or a mid gas
hell you can even have one with a rifle gas
>>
>>32791155
>>32791159
I typo'd that, 16" barrel. Core lists the part as a carbine so we will go with that.
>>
>>32791171
I have a surefire socom brake and on my mid length it feels like shooting a REALLY REALLY loud 22lr
>>
>>32791171
Hit reply too soon, If I measure from the end of the barrel to the location of the gas port it's 8 and a half inches
