Thanks for making the thread anon. I wanted one, but I also realize the meet is still over a month out so maybe we don't need one right away or one up permanently until February 17th or whatever.

But yes, there are still several things we need to work out.

The most pressing issue imo is target stands. The guy who owns the land and is hosting us doesn't want us blasting his trees, so we'll all need to pitch in somehow (or a few of us can commit) to building target stands. I don't think they need to be fancy, just something like pic related so we can staple paper targets or set cans/clays/whatever on them. I think if someone brings some scrap lumber and nails, it'll take like an hour and then we'll be all set to go. I'm hoping someone has spare lumber for a project like this so we don't need to buy anything, but I think if we all brought a 2x4, we'd have plenty of wood.

I need a good idea for a tugboat. /toy/ has proved useless. How does this strike your fancies?

I ran across pic related in a local Wal-Mart, and reviews show it's capable of amphibious activity out of the box, but I don't know about a few other things.

-2.4 GHz is a decent freq, but it doesn't explain a max distance of transmission.
-rechargeable batteries are great, but I don't know the power drain on this 3.7v/450mAh, or how long it takes to fully recharge (some places say an hour, though)
-max speed is not listed, but video shows about 3-5 knots
-if it comes to it, I can rig it to drag a target out somewhere and release it to preserve the thing

Thoughts? Can I find better? Is there something more accessible that I haven't looked at?

Question:

Can we organize a day or time for anons to swap or sell various things (besides firearms). I'm imagining we all have gear we'd like to sell or trade, but some anons are shy and don't want to ask every single person if they want to buy something. How about a day where all the anons who want to sell various things can set them out on a table or tarp or something, and then everyone browses what is being offered? You don't have to show up, but it provides a structured location for buying and trading and selling that makes it easier for anons to show everybody what they have.

How did you plan on releasing the raft? Pre-built electronics have preset channels. Each channel does one specific action. So, a 4 channel boat (like the Bismarck shown earlier) only does 4 things: forward, back, left, right.
We would need a fifth channel that releases a tow cable, or some way to make it manually release.

Besides, I had thought that we were going to strap the raft to the cable, tow the whole thing until someone blows up the target, and try to bring back the remnants of the boat.

You replace it with a bigger/better battery. You need to figure out what kind of connector it uses (Tamiya small/large, Deans, etc)and then you can just order a lager capacity battery from any of the plethora of battery shops online that cater to the RC/airsoft hobbies. If you want to risk it, you can up the volts to get more speed out of your motor, but then you risk burning it out. In airsoft, upping your volts would up your ROF, but the motors we used were pretty damn robust so you could increase power by a lot and not risk and real damage, I have no idea what kind of motors these boats use. You also have to consider how much space you have for the battery, as you increase your mAh (effectively the capacity of your battery) they get bigger, and most RC things have very small battery compartments, so you might need to dremel out some space.

You also need to pick what type of battery you want to use. NiCd batteries are cheap and robust, but require discharging. NiMH batteries are good middle of the road bats that don't require discharging but cost a little more and are more sensitive to temperature and long term storage. LiPoly and Li-ions are a shit load more expensive, but far better in every other way (except for the whole exploding if not charged correctly thing).

For an actual RC boat, upping your bat would probably be a really simple task, but for a crapy Chinese toy, it will probably take a lot of DIY tinkering to even be able to get a bigger bat into it's battery compartment, and that's if you don't have to rewire everything if it happens to use proprietary connectors.

Since it's a Wal-Mart toy that I'm looking at, it probably has a bunch of screws and some other crap I can take out. The waterproofing...eh, if it comes to it, rubber cement SHOULD do the trick. As for space, one bigger battery can have space carved for it with any given knife I have. If it blows up....well, that was one expected outcome of towing a raft full of fucking explosives behind it, just waiting for it to be shot.

Signal boosting is going to be on the control end. My RC knowledge is pretty limited, but I know that the boat itself if only going to able to receive, so you will need to tinker with the controler to boost signal, and I have no idea how to actually do that. It will probably require you to increase power, but I don't know shit about transformers or radio transmitters so how exactly you would go about doing it you are better of asking your RC buddy.

We've recently installed electricity in the cabin and we have a hose if you don't want to sterilize the lake water
the cabin will house me creep and one other guy whose bringing some meat
I have two recliners a couch and 2 beds, it's first come first serve for spots, I also have another smaller cabin with 3 bunk beds, this cabin is a bit rat infested, but if that doesn't bother you, you're free to bunk there, we can also put some people on the floor in the bunk cabin, not the main one tho
I'm mainly mentioning the fridge for anyone who needs medical stuff that needs to be stored but if we have room we'll store food as well. It's best to just bring a cooler tho

All depends on what length you get. A non-stud rated 8' 2x4 shouldn't run you more than 2 or 3 bucks. However that single 8' piece of wood isn't all that useful unless you get several and then have them cut into 3-4 foot long pieces. It generally takes 5 pieces of wood to build a target stand: 4 bits for use as legs and then one as a cross beam to actually hang/post things on.

Behold my masterful MS Paint skills demonstrating two simple target stands. You can also use two smaller bits of wood as upright across the crossbeam to support a sheet of cardboard so that you can staple up paper targets.

Another thing you can do is go into your local Home Depot and ask them for their scrap lumber kickers/stickers, the little bits o wood that pallets of lumber come on to keep them of the floor so you can get forklift tines under them. It's not the prettiest wood, but they are free.

No, we get charged for those pallets so we try not to let customers take them becasue we get credit for each one we send back. That's why if you buy a whole pallet of say concrete or something we charge a pallet fee. Some pallets we straight up can't sell becasue we don't actually own them, and we get charged like 30 bucks for each one that we don't send back.

SOMETIMES, i you are lucky, you can get a manager or supervisor that will let you take one, or at least let you buy them, but we are not really supposed to sell pallets.

I have a set of hand tools in my truck, and I can probs stop at a lowes or w/e on the way and get a good deal of wood if need be. The problem would be parking my CMV somewhere, and transfering everything to whoever is kind enough to come and get me from wherever I can park.

You can usually come up with pallets on construction sites. We throw them away when we get them. I will see how many I have on site tomorrow. Pulling pallets apart for the lumber sucks. You might be better off leaving them whole and just putting legs on them to hold them up on edge.

Also, boxes would make good target stands. We can staple paper to them and patch them up with tape. Just throw some rocks in the bottom and they would stand up. We could also put cans on the top or whatever if it stays level.

Personally i want to shoot mostly things besides paper, because the local ranges where I live only allow paper targets. I'd like to shoot cans and those reactive targets and stuff like that, but paper is good for competitions between us and stuff.
