What is the purpose of the bundles of chemlights operator types hang off their belts/carriers, and how do they attach them? I don't have much experience with chemlights in general, but the Cyalume ones I picked up to test out had a closed loop and a hook for hanging them places. Do they zip tie it on there through the closed loop hole and break the hook bit off when they yank it from their side, or do they undo a knot on a bit of 550 cord and slip it off? I'd assume they don't hang the chemlights by their hooks, because they'd just flop everywhere when they have to run.

I generally repair and modify my own gear with my 100% hetrosexual sewing skills. I've found that most pairs of USGI gloves tend to experience a bit of separation between the palm material and the top layer on the ends of fingers, so I generally just go over those when I get a pair.

>Nice. I sew terribly. They do wear out fast. So tight an comfy though. Only ones I think I liked more were solag's.
I like my PIG gloves more but in the winter I wear USGI flight gloves to avoid the snow. Sewing doesnt need to be pretty if its inside the gloves.

pretty sure you could just buy the pistol pouches and stick your mags in there.
but really I'd ask them as I don't see why they couldnt do it.
>>
>>32710975
>If so look nice an light.
Yep. They provide excellent dexterity and ventilation. Downside is that the ventilation lets in snow/cold obviously
>>32710991
Most pistol mag pouches are too short to provide good retention.
>>
>>32711000
https://ferroconcepts.com/collections/new/products/copy-of-turnover-magazine-pouch-single-pistol
you could cut ferro's bottom off and just slide it through to make it have retention more towards the middle of the mag.
kinda the nice thing about velcro internals is you can play around with spacing and height

In my opinion conventional 50/50 nyco field blouses are a thing of the past. The main reason to wear them is if you're forced to by regulations. They don't dry quickly because cotton, they weigh more than synthetics, they aren't warmer than synthetics, etc.

The way I see it, if FR is not necessary:
Hot wet weather (jungle, swamp, etc):
>100% nylon jungle fatigue (patagonia, tyr, OR)
>quick to dry, lightweight, breathable, can be DWR treated to mitigate light showers without sweating to death in a goretex happy suit

Hot dry weather (desert, etc):
>combat shirt with wicking body, 50/50 nyco combat pants
>alternately you can just use the jungle set, they just won't last quite as long as 50/50 nyco cause they're generally less abrasion resistant

Cool wet weather, cool dry weather, cold wet weather, cold dry weather (temperate forests, alpine areas, cold places, the arctic):
>wool or synthetic baselayers, synthetic softshell jackets and pants, primaloft insulation suits for static positions.

basically no set of weather conditions really suit the 50/50 nyco field blouse. if it's hot it's not breathable enough, if it's cold or wet it doesn't dry or wick well enough.

>>32711275
not really, you just get more pockets or something. and I guess crye sizing increments are more discrete so you can get a better fit

Sewing is a fantastic skill to have. It's one of those skills that I think everyone who's serious about prepping, survival camping or just generally being a "handy-man" should have.

Not only will it save you money but for camping, survival, and tactical gear it can save you a ton of money and it also makes DIY on tactical gear SO much easier. I'm still learning how to do heavy stitching so I'm hoping to be able to stitch some padding into the lower back.

Kek. ButYaNo cooking, swimming (well), sewing, hunting, shooting (obviously), climbing (free climb and belay), medical training up to or including TCCC, basic survival stuff like proper tent set up, felling trees, wood and some metal working as well as good DIY skills are an amazing skill set to have. I'm probably missing a ton of stuff but consider that you have torn your pants at the crotch and now it's pretty chilly up there. DIY closing them isn't that hard but to ensure they're not gonna tear again would take some decent seaming and hemming.

the thing about gorka is that it's a very russian garment

in their weather conditions a cotton outer layer is suitable, because it gets drier as you get colder. in those conditions you rarely have to worry about your outer layer getting soaked through.

in CONUS it's hard to get that cold, so cotton is not suitable. Instead the go-to is synthetic softshell materials. if money was tight I would buy OR ferrosi pants and something like a first spear windcheater

>I wouldn't get funny looks from woodland or desert
If people are going to give you strange rooms from foreign camo they are going to give you strange rooms from any camo. Assorted companies make Gorkas in all sorts of patterns incl desert, multicam, fde, od, olive, etc

Why are you going to the store in tactical gear?
>>
>>32718487
They are known in the world for being primarily airsoft catering. You tell me.

Also on the topic of gorka suits, They are fucking sacks. Nothing gets in, nothing gets out. They are heavy and starchy. They are too warm or don't do enough. Its difficult to gauge what weather conditions in the US they will work with and I usually end up removing them or layering up. I don't like the gorka. I liked how it looked and when I got mine the Bars gorka 4 wasn't available in the US so easily so I got it to shitpost.

I've worn it to death and honestly my PCU level 5 just beats the living shit out of it. I cannot EVER suggest one again. Not in good faith. If you want a Gorka though they should run about 70 bucks at best.

>They are known in the world for being primarily airsoft catering. You tell me.
I own one and have used it hard outdoors shooting since early July. I have slid over rocks, glass, brass, shards of metal and just about any debris I can find on the trashed public shooting areas with minimal problems. By contrast my BDU pants sliced open the double knee and cut my knee open the first time I went knee down onto the neck of a case that was frozen vertical. The build quality has been acceptable for me.

>They are too warm or don't do enough.
What kind of base layers were you using? I use arcteryx, bdu pants and smart wool under mine and find myself to be extremely comfy in cold weather

>I've worn it to death and honestly my PCU level 5 just beats the living shit out of it.
Level 5 PCU is going to be pretty nice of course, its patagonia. I like arcteryx gear better than the PCU stuff so I use my gorka as a big condom to protect my more fragile and comfortable layers.
>>
>>32718545
>>32718515
I don't have my God damn rig on. Do you really consider bdu bottoms "tactical gear"? What tactical advantages do they give you? I'm not wearing full uniform here, and besides that, I never said I do wear that to the store, I'm saying I could, the point is I don't want to, I want my clothing to be multi use and not need a whole closet to store my "role playing" kit, just so I'll have pictures to post on here.

I just don't like to pile on tons of layers when I do this ya know? Gorka is great for beating the shit out of it like I said its a sack that nothing gets in or out but I just can't find the right uses for it. I have better alternetaves for weather temps. If its cold or raining I wear my tesla skin tights under everything. If its really cold I have my wool tights over those then whatever shirt then fleece hardshell then PCU level 5. If I need more something is beyond fucked up.
for pants I have my wools, my feline pants then if I REALLY need it my level5s but thats rare for my legs. I don't need the gorka for this, ya know? Gorka is cool on its own some times in shit rain or meme blizzards if I'm driving around I guess.

>I want my clothing to be multi use and not need a whole closet to store my "role playing" kit, just so I'll have pictures to post on here.
If you are trying to avoid looking autistic while buying gear you are doing it wrong. You are trading form for function, I would rather look like a complete spaghetti bender in mcdonalds than tear my jeans open on a rock. Get neutral color (tan, black, grey, white, etc) mid layers that way you can shed your outer camo layer and just walk around looking like a skibum/normie

Just take your gorka/tacticool hardshell off and walk into the store/restaurant wearing your mid layer stuff.
>>32718619
>I just don't like to pile on tons of layers when I do this ya know?
Cold weather is really all about layering. If you get good fitting layers you really dont even notice them. Respect your point of view and not hating on PCU

>Soffee Shirt

>Smart wood longjohns
>Smart wool socks

I dunno, I personally always used two for excatly the reason you stated. Even tho you're trained to lay down properly to avoid knee injuries, the wrong stone at the wrong time can really fuck you up. But many soldiers and taught it's enough with one for the knee you're facing towards the ground.

Had a friend who fell on a sharp rock playing soccer, and was told he had the knee of a 80 year old. Just made me really aware of not hurting my knees too much when I was training out in the forest.

I'm buying gear that works in everyday life. That involves hiking and playing in the woods, as well as going to the store and interacting with normal human beings. that might involve choosing form over function, but having clothes that fit both bills IS function, it has a purpose. I copies you and put my sideways pouch on the side now instead of the middle, it fucked with draw and just werkz better. That and put my gps in the shoulder too not because I like you or anything b-baka because I dont!

I usually just use an arcteryx jacket, regular jeans/fjellraven pants, and Salomon boots. Have a pair of gloves and a beanie in my jacket incase it gets cold. Kinda lowkey for civilians, not too far out for hiking, works for military use.
>>
>>32710025

where do i find Austrian OD stuff

multicam is useful and all for all intents and purposes of concealing outline but i just like green better, and foliage green looks too light/grey to me

their OD is like the master race green
>>

We do talk about plenty of gear on here that works outside of looking like a retard. Maybe you belong in the milsurp thread.

>That and put my gps in the shoulder too not because I like you or anything b-baka because I dont!
I only put it there for "storage". I would otherwise wear it on my wrist, wether I'm handling a Famas or my AR.

For the pouch, do you mean pistol draw? Belt or thigh? Due to the girth of that PC, French forces prefer thigh or carrier holsters.

No, its all zippers. I mean its not for me to use on you, its to be used on me. I just want to keep a slick back so I can sit in a fucking chair/vehicle too. Its all so tiresome.

..PARIS-BREST!!
>>
>>32719244
If it's not in the way of your elbow, I'd say leave it there.
>>
>>32719341
alright. It just looks wonkos. Its not like I'm a fan of super bulk on myself. I think super bulk looks awesome but I just cant carry it all. The kevlar vest I stuffed in there + my plates man it gets thick and heavy. Anybody else use kevlar inserts? (vest just stuffed into your vest)
>>
>>32718024
what do you have in it? Seems like you could probably slim it down a bit, maybe get a different pouch
>>
>>32719415
lots of stuff. Its all compacted it just looks bigger than it really needs to be. Perhaps I could get a smaller pouch I just dont know what pouch since I'm picky as fuck when it comes to this. Its subjective and I'll play around with what I have.
>>
>>32719354
Why combine a vest+plates? Your plates aren't standalone?
>>
>>32719479
I want a 1 system. I don't like a 2 part system when it comes to sustained combat load. When I go memesicore then I wear a mag retaining device over my kevlar vest.

What the fuck dude its a paraclete RMV its a plate carrier.
>>
>>32719433
Its okay to be picky, Im just offering an idea, if you had a slim pouch you could run it on a first line (belt) or atleast it wouldnt be so bulky.

All depends what its for and what not I guess, but personally my IFAK carries enough for like 1-2 GSWs. I used to hate how large our IFAKs were in the military, but atleast there it made sense, where you can hit an IED and maybe wont get more supplies for a few hours or so. But for a range kit or SHTF I just prefer the basics for immediate care in there, and everything else I have a separate (larger) medical kit on stand by.

Obviously medical equipment is like ammo, you can never have enough, but I just think people carry too much sometimes.
>>
>>32719527
This set up is for "I am going to be in combat and this is what I will wear to deal with the situation and whatever comes my way" sorta mentality so my IFAK has enough crap in it to get shot up a couple times.

My other PC has no IFAK now and is just 3 mags and a knife on it. I really need to figure out a battle belt or something with it. I want to get a spiritus system too though. Who knows mango. If you can come up with a 50 shades of green IFAK pouch that works then I'll buy it right now.
>>
>>32719596
well idk what a fifty shades of green ifak would be

I would go ranger green tho, spiritus uses that as their color (not OD). Personally I love my Coyotetacticalsolutions STOMP. Slim, super good quality, tear off, fits on belt or rig, and holds the perfect amount.
>>
>>32719661
50 shades of green is paraclete general. They for whatever reason have so many different shades of green I just dont understand. I just call it 50 shades of green now.

They usually give up armor for speed and mobility. You need to be explosive and easy on the move. I know Norwegian FSK at least only use the FirstSpear AAC with back and front plates, some times side plates. Of course they also have ballistic helmets.
