That was a nasty car bomb. I guess Euphrates Shield couldn't shield them from IS touching them. Turkey brought in 8,000 troops to take Al Bab after stalling meanwhile the SDF/YPG have been rolling on IS all over northern Raqqa.
>>
>>32566708
IS isnt retarded, they won't fight for empty desert north of raqqa while the US air force obliterates anything that moves in the open.
>>

>>
>>32566912
Exactly, agricultural areas. ISIS knows that they can't stop an enemy in agricultural areas. So they don't even try. In the west the area was far more densely populated, more villages, so ISIS went with quick counteroffensives but even in the west they didn't offer significant static resistance until ES reached Al Bab.
>>
>>32562561
Looking at this map the update is IS retook Tal Saman where the long arrow started but lost Little Sweidyeh. SDF/YPG moving toward Tabqa dam while IS looking to counter in the bulge somewhere.
>>
>>32567146
This is a good example of what I like to call a "dance". As the SDF/YPG move to one side IS counters on the other side. This is typical of any battle as both sides go after each other's flanks. The arrows from both sides form a circle.

I think that those SVBIEDs are directed from drones. You can see that Iraqis do fire on them on several occasions, mostly BMPs but the soldiers have no choice but to run. An AK isn't going to stop one of those things.

>>

>That little girl

Fucking hell lads that's brutal. That bomb must of been huge
>>
>>32570729
Yes, although as has been pointed out the large areas they're losing to the Kurds north of Raqqa is territory that's pretty much impossible for them to defend too much when there's so much USAF support for the Kurds, so it shouldn't be seen as too great a barometer of their combat capability just yet.
In terms of equipment they have plenty, given that they were repeatedly waltzing in and capturing entire depots of stuff in Iraq they probably acquired more guns in the first few years than they've had fighters the entire time. Not to mention they've also captured plenty of stuff from the Syrians too, and as an organisation have literally missions of dollars to spend on whatever people are willing to sell them.
>>
>>32570617
Some of them have 2 guys in them now. There's pics of an (Al Nusra?) armored vbied - it's based on a bmp-1 with the turret ripped off and extra armor plates welded on, and there's a machine gunner position.
>>
>>32570783
IS is losing in all of northern Syria and have been for a long time. They have been planning for a couple of years to move the bulk of their forces into new areas like eastern Homs. IS is fucked but they know their fucked which makes them dangerous. The SAA in Deir Ezzor should be uncomfortable as well. With Palmyra gone they will never reach Deir Ezzor in time if IS does get desperate.

tl;dr IS is losing but they are not dumb
>>
>>32569050
It stopped at the good part..
>>
>>32570783
I see. Sorry, I've been out of the loop on what's been going on in Syria for the past few weeks. Do they still get supplies via sympathetic Qatari and Emirati oil princes? I remember at the beginning of the conflict they just happened to be kitted out with Chinese gear identical to what had been sold to security companies in the Gulf region.
>>
>>32570976
Anybody have the video of IS guys showing off their loot from the Russian/SAA base in Palmyra? I haven't seen it yet and I want to know what exactly they captured. The news only said that they'd captured Russian materiel, not whether or not it was useless shit or not.
>>
>>32571003
The video is easy to find but all they captured were new AKs/some new Dshks/hand grenades and a Russian version of a miclic charge. What IS would do with a miclic I don't know.
>>
>>32571081
I wouldn't want a mine clearing line charge launched over my foxhole or roadside checkpoint, that's for sure. It's going to interesting to see how they use it, because I don't know of any other case where an unconventional insurgent force has captured such a thing or used it.
>>
>>32570976
Oh I agree with you they're on a one way street overall, my point was more that someone who has not been following particularly closely shouldn't look at those impressive gains of large areas by the Kurds and think it means IS are done for already, and it's just a case of mopping up the rest because they're losing so much ground so quickly. As you say they know the situation they're in, and they know where to put up the strongest fight to ensure it's as costly as possible for whoever comes to face them on the ground.

>>32570979
It's become rather tougher for them to get outside supplies in the latter parts of last year as hostile forces have steadily been closing in all around them, cutting off the various areas they used to have pretty much full freedom to travel through. I'm sure they're still getting goodies sent to them, just check out how many shiny drones with nice cameras they have, stuff still gets through just probably not at quite the rate they might have done in the past given the greater logistical challenges these days.

I'm noticing as the war goes on, VIEDs have lost a lot of their explosive load.

Before, a VIED at ISIS peak could take out an entire outpost installation, now they barely take out a building.
>>
>>32573115
I remember the bulldozer VBIED in Ramadi that cleared the concrete barriers out of the way then blew up in what you thought was a decent explosion. Then you see the 2nd dump truck VBIED move through the gap and half collapse a 5 story building.
>>
>>32573115
Reports are that IS VBIEDs are decreasing in explosive power, armor and numbers.

Good for the Iraqi forces.

>>
>>32569455
How. Literally HOW can they let their enemies get this close to their aircrafts?
>>
>>32575817
Well close isn't really that close, sure it's close enough for ATGM but they're still a couple of km away considering the missiles fly at a few hundred m/s and there's quite a long flight time.
What bugs me is both the apparent lack of any sort of response after either the first strike, or indeed even at the end up the click they seem quite happy chilling out some time later and there's zero sign of anyone on the base doing anything, and that nobody had made the much attempt at protecting the aircraft to begin with. Sure I guess it's possible they were none operational anyway which would explain the all round apparent lack of fucks given at them getting btfo, but if they were still usable (even just as parts donors for other aircraft) all it would take is to park a truck either side of the hangar to protect against exactly that video happening.

There is some fighting reported around T4 today. Both sides have posted little if any proof of their claims from T4 recently anyway today's reports are unclear without further information. The only known to me is the clashes are close to the airbase.
>>
>>32575939
The jet's blown up were L-39s. Saafs little talked about own cheap CAS aircraft. They were being used heavily unlike say the mothballed Mig-25s at T4.
>>
>>32576793
That really does make it worse.
A couple of high sided panel trucks parked either end of those hangars apart from when the aircraft are in the process of taxiing in/out would be very cheap and have nullified that attack happening, unless IS were able to wait in that position for the right timing. Of course maybe they could have done and it still happens anyway right before/after a sortie, but it's still a simple guard to implement. Complacency or stupidity? Probably equal amounts of both.
>>
Terrorist attack in Israel killed 4 soldiers by truck ramming today ,the attacker may be part of IS.

I'm with you on Idlib, it's the final boss stage being left to last.
For those wondering why, SAA needs somewhere 'attractive' to offer green bus tickets too from anywhere else, it's the carrot when they're beating on a location with the stick. Of course it's not going to be left alone forever, but if it can potentially make fights for other areas easier by providing an escape route for the rebels it makes for SAA to use it that way until they clear up most if not all of the rest of the rebels presence.

Southern front has been quiet since Shaykh Maskin. It's the last major "moderate" rebel area and this fits the Assad strategy to attack the less Islamic groups in order to leave the radicals left. After Aleppo SAA high command felt they could afford to restart Daara. That and southern front has been abandon by Jordan and the US so now is the time. Pro SAA sources were screaming about a upcoming southern Aleppo offensive but so far this hasn't happened.

That said it could happen or rebels could restart Hama, they are letting this vague ceasefire play out first.
>>
>>32577449
Attack the moderates first strategy is working but it has flaws. If IS manages to expand in eastern Homs or Deir the Syrian government could end up losing all of eastern Syria for years to come.
>>

The video doesn't creep me. You can manipulate a kid to do anything, Take a loot at education and schooling. Although I don't blame the kids, I don't know what the fuck the US plans to do with these kids when ISIS is exterminated and disperses into caves. Best scenario is to just bomb the living hell out of all the enemy and innocent. I'm sorry but it's true. The reality of one of these kids getting through legally into the US and then plan an attack on let's say the Superbowl(well planned, thousands dead) would be catastrophic and war initiating.

Untrained and unmotivated troops.

Look at that first attack, more then half a minute from when the VBIED approaches the barricade to when it goes off. If the Iraqi forces had positioned a Humvee with a .50 to cover what the knew was a vulnerable route then they would have not been hit.

Not to take up too much of the thread and really I don't have much else to add but there is a ongoing midnight Islamist rebel offensive in northern Hama on SAA checkpoints that should be posted here. This area is also semi close to SAA/IS frontlines in rural Hama. Pretty interesting move by JFS. Their whole Hama offensive was stopped when Jund al-Aqsa started moving toward IS held areas here and Al Sham flipped shit over the possibility of rebel lines connecting to IS lines and now they rolling the dice in area already hot with SAA vs IS fighting.
>inb4 Arab news source headline "REBELS IN CAHOOTS WITH ISIS IN HAMA"
It wouldn't be very far from reality in they are taking advantage of the IS offensive in eastern Homs to make their own move. This be some drama tomorrow.
>>
>>32581646
Sorry I think this offensive is from the northern Homs pocket and not northern Hama. Whatever the case is we'll find out more tomorrow.

if it makes you feel better, in most IS children executions, there is HEAVY editing. It appears that a lot of the times, the kids purposefully miss or chicken out and have to be coached. I'm sure it still fucks them up for life, but most kids are smart enough to realize what theyre doing is very wrong.

There has been a major offensive in Yemen this weekend.

Back in autumn 2015, once the south had fallen to the loyalists, they had launched a campaign to secure the Bab al-Mandeb street down in the southwestern corner of the peninsular. That offensive very likely should have continued north up to the major harbour of Mokka, but was halfway stopped at the small town of Dhubab.

Well, now some 15 months or so later, the saudi-led loyalists decided to finally take Dhubab in a largescale offensive to open the way to Mokka and further secure the strait. Things did not play out as planned however over the weekend.
According to saudi sources, they secured some further clay and all is well, but they wont enter Dhubab out of politness. According to iranian sources it was a massive failure, one of the most one-sided defeats ever in human history.

>Which they dont

Because they are dead by now.

But i still believe that for every successful VBIED video we see in here there are numerous of destroyed ones without any damage caused.
>>
>>32588046
Of course.
When you look at the number of vied they throw at their enemy it goes in the hundreds and we only see so much footage of successful ones.

I understand that during an offensive in urban territory there isn't much you can do, and if they are used properly youbwikl take casualty because in the midst of battle it is hard to set up defenses as armor will get atgm'd and soldiers snipe'd.

But when you set up an outpost it's just basic common sense.
If a vehicle can get in, you all die.
No need for fancy strategy or training or whatever. Just block every goddam access around you from a safe distance.

Trying to gun the vbied down isn't effective because they are usually armored and you need to be attentive and not fuck up when it drives at you.
Just park a motherfucking car or two across the road m8

Since last nights northern Homs SAA checkpoint's attack was repelled by the SAA it's been the same at the other hot fronts. Some fighting reported in eastern Ghouta, Wadi Barada and Daara with rebels claiming to have destoryed a couple of tanks and repelled these attacks as well.

tl;dr stalemate

Yes and no pro IS account is disputing it. IS is losing eastern Mosul. I wouldn't doubt a few are getting ready for a last stand.

A couple of unverified things worth mentioning. One is a possible US airstrike on JFS in Idlib and also a large explosion in Qamishli without further details. Qamishli is the city where YPG allies fought NDF into a corner but they had a ceasefire before shit got real.

The aircraft carrier learning curve is unforgiving but at least they had the balls to send it.

Russia is too poor to field a proper CBG so fine with me if they want to piss away money on carriers. It's a nice stimulus for NATO naval funding.

If Moscow were smart they'd invest in their land forces, especially their airborne and rocket/artillery. Those are ideal for small wars. Russia doesn't need to go bankrupt on power projection and surface fleets are absurdly expensive.

They will lie and lie and lie to you allll day long to get what they want, then turn around and do exactly opposite of what made you give them what they wanted in the first place.

They are some of the worst posers there are. They constantly want to sing and dance and show you their weapons GIVEN to them by their betters. Then when shots are fired, they drop them and scatter like the roaches they are.
