for future reference:

you can buy online and have it shipped to a gun store near you, then pay a small fee at the gun store to have it transferred to you. my local gun store charges $5 for that service, but prices vary from $5 to $20 and maybe higher.
>>
>>32523458
There are plenty with plastic 74M furniture. There are "real AKs" with that combo in the 10x series and plenty of clones.

Not sure about ones with the wood 74 furniture but I'm sure they exist and somebody here is bound to know what they are.
>>
>>32523458

Yes. Buy any 7.62 AK except yugo, then buy 74 furniture and put it on the AK. Then go online and order a 74 style brake with 14x1LH threads and put that on.

>>
>>32523860
depends on what you want to do.

you want to stain it a certain color, then put something clear over the stain to protect it?

you want to just put a non-tinted oil on bare wood, which can help the natural wood grain to be more visible.

you really need to decide which direction you want to go first.

>>
>>32523954
>keeping the same colour but add more protection to it.

If you want to use an oil, try boiled lindseed oil. It will protect it, but it will need to be reapplied every few years or so.

Tru-Oil is another option and once you're finished with it, then you don't need to re-apply. It will dry shiny, so if you like shiny then you're done. If you want a more satin or matte look, you can knock the shine down with 0000 steel wool.

Whatever you choose to do, make sure and do lots of research online.

How's the weather in canada?

If $550 is your budget, you'll be better off going with an AR. Most of the AKs you'll find in that price range will be American-made junk with cast parts and "self-adjusting" headspace. Low-budget AKs can be downright dangerous.

kek. Anyway, check out the Bulgarian 4-piece or the AK-builder/CNC warrior clones.
>>
>>32525798
I get that, but at the same time the HPA is going to make it more difficult in the short term to get suppressors if it does pass. Everyone and their mother will be running out to get one once NFA isn't involved, and the vast majority of suppressor makers aren't tooled up to meet that level of demand.

On the other hand, if you have a trust set up for your SBR and you get your suppressor on the same trust, if/when the HPA passes, you get your $200 back and beat the crowds.

Really, if you're gonna SBR a gun and want to suppress it, the only reason not to do it is flat-out not being able to afford the can yet.

Personally, I'm gonna try to get my trust set up this month so I can buy a SiCo Hybrid 46 with my tax return. The AK I'm building will, oddly enough, end up being the only thing I own with a threaded barrel that won't get use out of it.

No AK that is safe to shoot will be at or under $550 unless you buy used.

You can build a mediocre AR for that, or buy a prebuilt bad one.

The AR has better irons, period. Faster and more precise.

The AR has cheaper/easier/more durable optics mounting options, as the pic rail is integral to the receiver and has no chance of moving or having been installed wrong.

7.62x39 is a better deer/hog round than 5.56 when comparing high end bonded softpoints, but its bonded softpoints cost considerably more on average. There are several good bonded softpoints for 5.56 in the 60cpr range whereas x39 starts at $1 per. No, the wolf/tula/barnaul softpoints do not expand reliably due to the thick bimetal jacket (this is true for all calibers). PPU makes an okay softpoint for x39 for ~80cpr, next cheapest is the Hornady Zmax/Vmax at ~$1.10/rd.

A 16" AR will be around a pound lighter for the base model and close to 2lbs lighter when factoring the steel siderail mount necessary to mount an optic to an AK. Assuming you dont tacticool either out.

A cheap AK will probably have the better trigger since so many companies are using the crapco g2. Its surprisingly good.

I'd just mess about myself, may even make a membrane system like the welrod given I only need the first couple shots to not deafen me until I can get away. Not sure how that would work in a piston system.

The language as stated is that any purchases done between the introduction of the bill (Oct 2015) and the passage of the bill will get the stamp refunded. That was a key provision, since the lobbyists who pushed it didn't want to shoot themselves in the foot by killing sales before it gets passed.
>>

Poorly. DI is significantly quieter than simple blowback which is significantly quieter than piston.

Were the HPA to pass, the bottom would drop out of the suppressor market. Demand for suppressors would fucktuple, which would ruin availability for a while, but once manufacturers starting meeting demand (plus all the new manufacturers that would spring up overnight joined in) the price for a metal tube with some baffles in it would go down significantly.

I mean it's already happening without the HPA. The Internet has made NFA more accessible and comprehensible and more and more people are getting into it. Plus everyone and their brother has started manufacturing suppressors because they realized it's an overinflated gold mine. The competition has already driven prices of a lot of the direct thread models down.

Brutally honest answer? Consumerism.

There's SO MUCH shit out there for ARs that it was only a matter of time before /arg/ became a giant mess of circlejerking, brand wars, and special snowflakism.

With AKs, there's significantly less variety. Most of /akg/ discussions about brands are usually just about what to avoid and why, which is typically a short discussion since the market is so bare in the states compared to that of the AR. On top of that, most of the "cool" stuff /akg/ gets off to is surplus of some sort, which leads to discussions about things like production variants, period accuracy for clone builds, etc. There's a lot of technological know-how in /akg/ for the simple reason that it came to people as a result of learning about the things the Soviet states did to their AKs over the years and why they did it in the first place.

If the AK market were to ever explode like it has for ARs, then /akg/ would become another general full of dickwaving over brand elitism (ever notice how the one consistently-annoying person in these threads is a guy who blew a ridiculous amount of cash on expensive Zenitco furniture for little tangible performance gain?). Luckily, it doesn't look like that will happen, and the AK community's "rifle is fine" mentality means it'll never reach the same level of operator dress-up faggotry that currently infests /arg/. We're too busy trying to get the Russians to send us their old shit anyway.

you're right of course.

The process of getting the bill passed, put into effect, posting retail suppressors on shelves, and finally getting availability up will take a long ass time. All of those things have to happen before prices will START to come down. I'm no expert, but it could be 4-5 years before they get cheap.

My point is that the savings you are going to get with the HPA are nothing compared to the time you'll spend waiting. Yeah, you might save 400 dollars on a new suppressor. But you'll be waiting 5 years for that price, which comes out to 80 bucks a year.

It's dumb to wait for the HPA. >>32526363

I'm going to SBR any AK pistol I get so it's not a matter of names on a registry it's a matter of curiosity and I can wait for that. Also trusts involve lawyers and such so until I get other things in order it wouldn't be worth it quite yet
>>
>>32526836
not in Connecticut. All AKs and clones are illegal unless they are pre-ban (like the 1991 ban I think). Cheapest way to get an AR here seems to be well over $1000 for a preban. Hoping I can find an AK cheaper

Because /arg/ browsers pump thousands of dollars into single rifles that they take shooting twice a year
AKs don't really require or accept nearly as much grandeur, and the fact that the AK market is dangerous ground compared to the AR market makes AK users intrinsically more likely to want to help people who aren't sure what to get, while in /arg/ if you ask what to get it just starts eight different people shilling twelve different brands to you
Now, as to why /arg/ fags post in almost every /akg/ thread bragging about superior expensive AR, I'm not sure. Has to be an ego thing, considering how desperate they are to make sure everyone knows AKs are cheap commie rifles while their tacticool AR with fifteen pounds of flashlights is way better

HPA won't pass in 2017. I know you guys like to think that Trump is going to make shit magically happen but the HPA has both houses to go through and it'll get chopped to shit before proceeding to a vote, at which point the minority leaders will hard stall any progress. If you think they were just sleeping on the shit you obviously know nothing about your enemy. They take their orders from the top, the big money anti-gun spenders (read: campaign donors) to fuck conservatives as hard as possible following Trump's victory. Like it or not, gun freedoms are almost exclusively a right wing issue in the US.

>but liberals are buying guns too!

Reactionary bullshit. Most of them aren't. Those that are tend to do it for shock value facebook posts and believe that all conservatives should be forcefully disarmed and only non-whites and lgbtqialmnopayyyylmaos+ people should be armed. You know, so they can combat all of those right wing death squads that are throwing gays into mass graves all over the US because it's Trump's America now.

I get what you're saying but my post wasn't really referencing the voters. The average non-coast (not located in the PNW/california or NE liberal areas) left winger is about as moderate as their right wing counterparts outside of the universities, which are a breeding ground for progressive extremism.

Where the left's moneyed elite see the most success is at the state level, obviously, spending money to buy state legislatures and governors. For the most part they can effectively ignore moderates until the presidential election, at which point they either appeal (8 years of obama) or double down (clinton 2016).

Quick question. Im still new to aks and Im having a little "problem" with my slr. When I pull the charging handle all the way back and let it fly forward on its own it does fine but if i don't let it go all the way back or let it go slower it doesn't feed properly. Is this a normal thing.

heres a vid I found with the same exact issue: https://youtu.be/WHz2HtEjDaI?t=1m50s
>>
>>32529032
That's normal. The intended manual of arms for an AK is to let the charging handle fly forward without guidance.
If it's sticking open when you slowly guide it forward that usually has to do with the hammer. SLRs come with pretty mediocre triggers, if you get a Bulgarian surplus trigger group or some other replacement trigger it should fix it
>>
>>32529032
For just about any semiautomatic gun, you want to let the action return under its own power and not ride it. It's meant to function on its own force.

On a related AK note, most civilian AKs have a slightly larger than milspec FCG which can cause that slight hang up if you release it slowly.

Hell I even tried to help him in the thread and he all caps sperged out on me
>>

That's funny, I've talked with him a bit on a different platform and he seemed like a decent fellow. Also he has some #superrares like a 9x19 Bizon mag and prototype quadstack
>>

Ive ordered mags through him twice good guy imo.

Yea, he sold a plum polyamide or whatever the fuck they're called just recently

If I was into rares a lot I might give him the benefit of the doubt but after my first impression, eeeeh
>>

Yea I understand, especially with Nalioth, he just went from 0-turboautist real quick

Not like I have the money to get anything from him anyways, was just my one experience with him that he put me off with

Besides knowing a slav, where do you guys buy bakes?
>>

This is the equivalent of shooting a kid in the face for trying to nick some candy rather than just taking the candy back

I wouldn't mind if he would have kept it at "Please do not discuss things in the market place", I was on his side even

He left like two full paragraphs of all caps in the thread which is an obvious overreaction to one person asking a question
>>
>>32529588
I don't know the price ranges for bakes. I assume they're more expensive than steel mags because of their relative rarity
>>
>>32529750
>relative rarity

ehehehehehe
>>
>>32529754
Well, correct me if I'm wrong, IIRC the 7.62x39 versions were only made by Russia and aren't currently in production.
I know that 5.45 bakes are going to be much more common due to them being the standard mag of the AK-74.

Or maybe I'm dead wrong.

The largest problem will be how ATF handles getting them all off the NFA, like wtf am I supposed to do as a dealer that has all of these form 3's and a separate NFA items logbook, and ATF could easily say some shit like "the law going into affect would jeopardize current investigations" or something.

There's a few points of evidence you could get from an image besides an IP address, such as tracing the serial number, seeing if geotagging was left on (or finding other clues in the metadata, such as camera model and serial number).

From his bizon thread i get the impression he is a try-hard autistic faggot who takes himself way too seriously.

I am considering reloading 7.62x39mm but am only at the stage of researching it.

I don't know of any adjustable gas blocks for AKs.

You could probably load 100gr bullets in 7.62x39. Barnes makes (used to make?) a 108gr .310" diameter spitzer solid in their reduced ricochet/low penetration (sintered copper, in other words) line, and I have read that those could be loaded to cycle fine.

One issue with reloading for 7.62x39mm is that Boxer-primed brass isn't easy to get and is spendy when you find it. Though there are people on Youtube who have experimented with removing the tiny wire anvils from Boxer type large rifle magnum primers and using Krazy-Glue to fasten them into the Berdan primer pockets of Russian commercial 7.62x39mm, then loading with God only knows what powder, and gas checked cast bullets, but that's getting a little bit Mad Max for my tastes.

Another is that getting decent velocities and functioning the gas system to cycle properly requires a rather narrow burning range of powders. The short list is Accurate 1680 (which is old Winchester 680) and Alliant Reloder 7. Now, I have heard of people getting rifles to function with powders burning as slow as IMR3031 or even BLC(2) but velocities will be low, even with compressed loads of either of those. The pressures just don't build fast enough to get velocities comparable to milspec or commercial out of the AK's stubby little 16" barrel with that great big gas port.
>>
>>32531046
Not that guy, but I think you're the one with the issue, anon...
>>
>>32528814
May I ask why? It'll lave an even lower BC than the low BC of 123 grain, it'll have a lower SD, too.
>>
>>32526675
>this
/arg/ is a gay shit feast in part to the gucci rifle meme, people who pour money into a rifle because they are shitty at shooting instead of spending the money on ammo and getting better. If you cant shoot decently with irons and a factory trigger you should spend money on ammo not some 400$ trigger. If you are already a decent shot upgrades will help but they wont turn a crap shot into a crack shot.
