Depends on how far you want to shoot with it.

If you want to shoot bullseye at 100 meters you will probably want more than 6x anyway, but if you're going for a man-sized gong at 400, the 4x or 6x will work.

For me a 6x is barely enough to see a 1 inch target dot at 100 yards. But 4x is enough to comfortably aim at man sized targets under 200 yards. So depends on what kind of shooting you're doing (slow bench precision vs ranged action/competitive shooting).

Honestly, it's a waste. Primary arms and Vortex make about the lowest tier of red dot I would trust to hold zero and function under relatively adverse conditions. They are going to run you more than $100 (unless you find a decent deal second-hand). I would opt for irons and save up if it were me.

Thanks for the honesty. I've read up a bit and saw plenty of good things about Vortex so I think I may just pick out something in the $200 range instead. It's not so much about not having the money, its more that I don't want to hear wife bitching too much. Under $100 means a trip to Vicky's secret, $200 might mean a whole mall afternoon, not sure.

Can someone explain to me why people use stainless barrels in handguns? I understand it in ARs because you can actually shoot hundreds of meters but in handguns it seems that its pretty much impossible to shoot accurately beyond 50 yards because of the inherent traits of a handgun. So why do some come with SS barrels, seems like nothing more than a burden that wears out far faster

That's pretty bad. I tend to put a layer of chapstick goo over my lenses if I'm hitting the range with them on, since the shit just wipes right off that way, but melting lenses is a whole different ballgame.

Surefire is the way to go regardless, the quality of build and light output is noticeable. There's lumens then there's surefire lumens.

So along that idea ive seen guys take the red filters from L shape flash lights and trim them down to the size of the a 951/952 head amd jerry rig them. That way they wont have white light. They would do this for when they were conducting SSE(sensitive sight exploitation) and could search through a compound for intel with out throwing around too much light. Even though i disagree with the idea behind it it worked good enough. The same idea could beused for a sacrificial lenseto protect from carbon but with the quality of surefire glass its a non issue in my opinion.
