I have better than perfect vision. I can read at 20 ft what normal people see at 15. I can read the bottom line of the eye chart. I still want magnified optics for past 300m engagements because it makes shit so much easier

>>
>>32462723
Ok army I'll get more shit for my gun! :^)

Yeah I know, I don't actually like irons because I'm blind as fuck but I don't want to put some non-military use optic on this so now I have to save a gorillian dollars to buy an ACOG or the other version of ACOG to put on it. Or a beat to shit EOtech/aim if I can find one. Flashlight and other stuff will come after a proper optic.

>>32462739
Honestly joking about the irons here I don't like them much.
>>
>>32462726
I'm not a fan of buttpacks. A light day pack like a Hydrostorm or Camelbak MULE carry about the same amount and are less annoying. If you wear a ruck, you can just strap the daypack on top, inside, or under the top flap of the ruck as well. Better than buttpacks which tend to bump against rucks annoyly.

Buy a vortex strike eagle, even at 1x you don't need glasses because it has an ever so slight magnification that clears everything up. It's only $330 so it won't rape your wallet

>>32462794
there are more optic options than just acogs. there are 1-4 and 1-6 scopes, like trijicons accupoint accupower lines, vortex psts, sfwa hd ss, that are sub $1000 and can take a good beating. my leupold mk ar is $300. its not illuminated. its 1x setting is a 1.5x. but excellent glass and pretty damn tough. dont be afraid of using these optics. worse comes to worse you still have buis
>>
>>32462762
Oh I know, I'm just doing it for memes.
copying the pouch layout of SAS in the gulfwar but instead of using a customized minimi pouch I decided to use partisan buttpack
>>
>>32462818
I have a burris whatever REPR thing and I've gone through a few voretex and aimpoints in the past. This is just a mil looking M4 style AR build that I want to stick to so it has to be a mil optic. Now if they use things outside of EObreak, Aimpoint, ACOG then start listing and I'll be looking but those are the 3 main ones for how i want it to look. Yeah worst case stick to irons and be reminded I'm blind every day.
>>
>>32462831
I am retarded, will delete my post. If this is an impression build, comp m2s are consistently $300 on ebay, comp m4s 400-500. I love the comp m4

Pic related is a bastardized abortion of an FLC, ELBV, and a set of alice y suspenders. Made it one night on a whim to see if I could. Wanted to get somethig similar to a brit plce or molle smersh. I loved the eagle H harness but to fit me right I have to take out the back panel so that ends the ability to use a butt pack. This works very well but the shoulders are way too bulky. I will try and find and LBT 9014 or a diamond/battle lab h harness to fill the gap of what I want.

>>
>>32462959
I've never been a fan of carrying excessive sustainment gear on personal load gear. Things like carrying e-tools especially gets very old very quickly.

In addition, you have all that excessive sustainment gear, yet old a single 1qt canteen. Very little water. You are loading with excesses yet skimping on the nessesities.

Priorities of load bearing gear- ammo, water, medical, batteries. In that order.

Load bearing gear tools for innawoods- Compass, maps, GPS, one change of socks in waterproofing, filter/tablets for water (bonus if filter is integrated into normal water canteens ala lifestraw), multiool, GP knife (maybe), waterproof notebook and pens, basic weapon cleaning/clearing supplies.

Leave the sustainment gear on a droppable ruck. Why carry a whole messs kit all the time if you aren't carrying food? Silly. Carry the tin with what your food is carried in.

oh year queer requirments.
nato has to wear mulicam uniforms. no special snowflake shit. Has to use us weapons. Only exception is 9 guys can make a squad of any other nato force

russians must wear russian camo and use russian weapons

regfor cant look highspeed and cant have too many attachments.

there's no rules from msw about replica gear. but there's airsoft groups who go to msw who require ridiculous shit in order to play with them. like Nick was getting shit for wear a coverless mich, 6sh112 vest and mountain camo set.

There has been an obvious significant decline in combat vets posting here. Both anons and tripfags. Now all the combat gear and tactical advice is coming from people with hypothetical experience. No disrespect to bluecarpet, but when a neverdeployed national guardsman is our most recognizably operator tripfag that still posts, we got issues. He should be middle of the road, not top tier.

What the fuck is the point of having a Gear Queer thread with /GQ/ approved and "peer-reviewed" lists if it's now passable to just spend $300 on Amazon and get replica gear of ~$2k worth of legit or extremely hard to find shit?

I don't mind the people who collect... Airsoft gear... But that's the same thing as having a "Porsche and Lambo club" for example, and then letting in street mod Honda's. Even if it can run with the big bois or pass barley it's not even close to the same thing.

Speaking of Salomons, are there any specific instructions for cleaning them? Really need to clean them up, but I'm not sure if I can just throw them in the washer and dryer or what.

I saw something really interesting today on SSD. The Dutch military are fielding armor carriers that implement portable deisel generators that power all of the ancillary equipment that the soldier would normally carry batteries for. I looked into it and it looks like Fokker manged to create a diesel generator small enough to strap onto a combat vest. It seems that it isn't a conventional diesel generator, but instead a liquid-fuel thermoelectric generator that requires only around a liter of fuel (diesel) for a days worth of operation....pretty amazing.

Yes and no. Anymore it's about trying to make Gear queer into your typical serialized thread with the copy pasta OP's. It needs a lot of work but we're getting there. The end goal is to not have people asking "wat buy" if they read the OP at all.

More like "wat do", and then show off the $400 IFAK that they don't know how to use and will never open.

Until you ship it as in "I have it, now pay me day of before I ship it"? Sounds good.

ITAR is easy to get waived on stuff like clothing if you have the right connections. All you need to do is deal with a couple hours of DoD phone trees. I am keeping a set personally, and I will check all sets myself for authenticity. I personally almost had a heart attack when one of my NC shirts almost turned out to be fake, so I know how much authenticity matters. If you want, when I get it, before you make your purchase, I can open your set up and send pictures of all of the proofing marks and tags.
>>
>>32464466
A big issue with a static list of reccomendations is that desired features are super fragmented. Some fraction of /gq/ just wants cool aesthetic wear to do range drills and quick reloads, some fraction wants 100% accurate navy seal reproduction wear, some fraction wants to avoid freezing to death in the woods under a fixed budget. And a lot of the time it's more "fun" to wear milsurp instead of equivalent commercial gear, even at a higher performance point.

So you can't really nail down "what should i buy" because everyone's at a different place.

On the belt, the BFG beltminus doesn't have an inner belt. The waist buckle is just sewn on the belt.

Is this good enough, senpai? And note on the boots, I got mine before Salomon Forces Quests had been released - and I would've gotten normal ones anyways, for the grey colourway. For cleaning, just clean them like you would normal combat boots. Brush them clean outside and you're done.

noob here, just seeing the gold-tier listing you've been writing up gives me a top end benchmark on quality, names, and features to look for and avoid when I go digging through poor-tier stuff for something that meets my basic needs. So, even if I'm not going to buy off the recommendations list it still helps me at my own level, just so long as the elitism only extends to keeping airshit off the sales floor and decent humor, I'm fine with the culture

As far as I've seen this is basically it. That and Condor.
Brands that repeatedly prove to be trash will also probably be disregarded but it seems like only companies that you would actually just have to know nothing to buy from are that tier. Basically Condor that's it.

ALSO

LBT is having a sale for the next day and a bit. Only tan shit, though so I can't use any of it but an LBT 6094 + triple mag shell kangaroo insert are $300 USD which is basically a fucking steal but yeah take a look around

You're not looking anywhere near hard enough, nor are you attentive enough to sales if you think the LBT 6094 SRT actually sells for $600. You can get any LBT plate carrier for like $300 on sale (they have sales so common that they might as well just leave their sale prices as their regular prices) and as for more expensive plate carriers there are a ton.

My AVS setup is just around $800, and if you count the non-Crye pieces it's probably more like $900.

I got a reputable polack to custom build my lv-mbav because I couldn't justify dropping the cash a second time on something I wouldn't know I would like, so I paid the polack above 350 for the PC, and I have absolutely zero regrets the PC is great, good stitching, good material, good service. IMO

Surp is made by the lowest bidder but you can tell it has some quality built in.
You can usually tell by the material they use, bad repos tend to go with really cheap fabric, and really awful hardware.

with ALICE pistol belt they really stiff, you can almost use it as a sword.
with an ALICE Harneses a tell tell sighn is the metal adjustment buckles actually doing their job.

You are what you are, so I didn't want to sound like I was knocking you. You do these /gq/ threads and have decent quality more than most other threads these days. It is simply that you are by far the most visible tripfag which has any kind of military experience, and that is a bit sad. It makes things a game of telephone when people talk about gear & tactics, since the anon/trip posting their info heard it from a guy who heard it from a guy who deployed. The quality of the information degrades as it gets passed. You have guys like Skeletor running around giving all kinds of 'operator' advice when the most he knows is second hand info from military guys, not his own experience. More input from primary sources keeps information more practical.

'member when you went autistic about low pro POU and kind of went overboard with it in a religious fanatic kind of way? You weren't necessarily wrong, but it was clear you were parroting.

And really we never see Ricky or Toad anymore. I actually miss That_Guy, he had a shitty attitude and puffed up his information access, but he knew his shit about being recondo. Combat_Beard was good until he imploded with his whole training academy debacle. And we used to have anons who posted with identifable pictures, such as a combatmedic fag who posted a lot, and an IDF guy.

Just tired of the blind leading the blind for the most part when they talk about what's the best combat gear.

>>
>>32467358
An inexpensive setup would be CE fatigues (Guerrilla, OPEX or Felin "brands") and a GPB S3 (the heavy assault vest you can find on Keepshooting.com) with a Spectra helmet with CE cover.

Alternatively, paratroopers were deployed in Mali with the old F1 helmet (they didn't have time to get all their gear ready, or something).

There are a few chest rigs available, Arktis K170 or a Mil-tec shitty copy.

Current French military in France has a mix and match of old stuff. In OPEX they get modern Felin helmets and Tigre plate carriers (CIRAS look-alikes). Hatch kneepads are common.

If you have reference pics of setups you like, I can try identifying stuff for you.

They're Arc'teryx Drysocks. Basically knee length gore-tex socks. You can wear them over your pants, or under them but either way you're supposed to wear them in your boots, just like normal socks. if you have access to dry socks skip the Goretex boots, and go with something just water resistant.
Goretex boots take an eon to dry, and you will fuck up your feet if you continue to work in soggy boots.

i try to do what i can with the funds that i have. I just enjoy collecting gear that i can get cheaply. I traded my SADF chest rig for that bayonet. It fits with the kit for aesthetic purposes and it's got a 90 degree spine on it so i can use it to strike the ferro rod i keep with my kit. It's sharp enough to make feather sticks and cut up potatos and meat.

You are right tho it's kinda big and not ideal for shit but i generally wouldn't use any of my gear for serious shit. If i had to go, i would take my type 81 chicom and my alice pack. I feel like i could move quicker and be more comfortable with just that. If i had to stay put i have my pc set up in a way that i like and can use.

I don't really care or take the shit talking personally. I just have to bring up how unoriginal the insults are. It's the same fucking thing in every thread.I have been posting here for years and it can be annoying when i just want to show off the new thing i got and instead of a response i get the same 3 insults. but it's 4chan so i am retarded for expecting anything different.

The unsurmountable barrier about this whole ordeal is that even if I did get one of the Century Arms Famas, the barrel wouldn't have the rifle grenade serrations, so it would still look a little bit "off" to someone who knows their shit.

Also, no STANAG compatibility on the F1 model, so it's a pretty shitty system to have.

Theres plenty of small-reg orc jackets on ebay. Mine fits OK even though i'm small-short. I had trouble with the pants because i'm 5'9 with a 36" inch waist, so the large-regular patagonia pcu pants fit fine except they're like 6 inches too long for me.

I measured my other pants and it turns out that for BDU pants, small-reg, medium-reg, large-reg are all different lengths even though the inseam is constant. I wouldnt have guessed that

Anyway just curious can you post a closeup of the shoulder patch area on the patagonia jacket?

I can't really compare them to crye appeal because I've never bothered with crye softgear.
There are some loose threads here and there but nothing some scissors and a lighter can't fix, but other than that stitching is good stuff.

I did some jogging in my pair and some low crawls, and took the occasional knee and didn't have a blown out crotch yet, so I'll take that as a good sign.

>>32471614
how about second floor down a stretch of road?

>>
>>32471614
I would, yeah, because my AR is designed for long range precision.
That being said, even in an urban environment, you might have to shoot something 50m away. Shooting a handgun accurately at 50m isn't that easy when under stress. For CCW a handgun is fine, but if you're expecting "combat", a handgun as a primary is severely limited.
>>
>>32471621
>>32471629

i guess my point is that a SHTF scenario is more along the lines of argentina, venezuela and other failed states, and not like mad max. In which case there will still be cops, snitches and gangsters running around in the big cities. So while you can play soldier with your plate carrier and scar in the middle of nowhere with your AR, you will be shot/targeted/arrested pretty fast in urban areas, so concealability in weapons and armor are key, so that means handguns and 3A armor.
>>
>>32471667
Think of Sarajevo.
There were people running around with handguns, but there were also snipers.
