>>32435458
I'm personally partial to the VZ58. Both are fun, but the VZ58 has much better ergos (not built for 5'5 slavlets) and the detachable mags actually work. That being said, it's more noticeable to the side of you than the SKS, just a warning if you like to shoot in groups.
>>

For $260.
Is this a good deal?
>>
>>32436101
For surplus ammo? It's pretty good, it's just going to be dirty ammo, and you'll need to clean your gun every time you go shooting.
>>
>>32436101

Normally 290$ at Firearm Outlet Canada. 350$ is way too much in the first place anyway.
>>
>>32436101

It's usually ~300-350, not a bad deal. I'm sure that doesn't qualify for free shipping though, those crates are heavy as shit. If they're local I'd go for it.
>>
Looking into buying my first shotgun, primarily to be used for turkey/waterfowl, but also fun. Was thinking of a camo 12 gauge pump with a 3 1/2 chamber so that I can fire anything through it. The option of adding rails for a scope later without gunsmithing would be nice too. Current candidates:
-Mossberg 535
-Winchester SXP
-Remington 870 Express
-Benelli Supernova

So I have no idea which to go with, though I am partial to the SXP and Supernova, as I haven't heard any serious complaints about either. Heard about the Mossberg kicking too much and rattling, and Remington's having shit QC nowadays. Just wanted to get some opinions from here.
>>
I'm torn on buying one of the two.

$270 for 1400 rounds of Russian surplus x39
Or
$250 for 1500 rounds of Chinese surplus.

Is the Chinese stuff decent? Anyone tried both? I have only ever used Czech surplus.
>>
>>32436504
Not me, but one of the guys at the Ottawa shoot said the x39 Chinese ammo was pretty good. I've only ever used the x54r Chinese surplus and it's dirty as shit, takes forever to clean my guns after shooting it, even compared to the Russian x39 surplus I shoot.

>>
>>32436577
People sell those stripper clips for a 1$ each at gun shows, and i have a huge box full of them. Ive also seeing people selling surplus 7.62x39 or 54r individually for 1$ a too
>>
Merry Christmas, dickbutts.

May your groups be small.
>>
>>32430243
Yes, they can shoot modern ammo. The design itself is strong- much stronger than the round used (basically a slightly more powerful .32 S&W long). Fiocchi made some 7.5mm Swiss revolver not so long ago. You can make your own reloads using .32 cal bullets and shortened .32-20 cases if you'd like. Calgary Shooting Centre had some locally made ammo.
>>
>>32432543
Online the prices are fairly dire- 600-800 is the range I'm seeing. Assuming you can find one, of course. Your best bet will be at the local gun store, but even then I'd budget at least $600 to be safe (if you want it in good shape).

I know some people score serious deals, but that's what I've been seeing.

>>32435961
Prophet River has free shipping and 10% off on purchases over $200. They have a lot of brass and bullets in oddball calibers. It's not a huge savings, but when it's something like a .45-90 or .500 Nitro Express every little bit helps.

>>32436445
As much as I like my Mossberg, I'd go with the Supernova for your needs. I'd pick the Mossberg before the SXP, but that is just personal preference.

If you get a Remington Wingmaster you'll do better. Remington has tidied up their QC in the past few years, but the Express are still dire. Make sure you inspect it carefully before buying.

>>32436564
If it's in good shape, that's a good deal for a pre-64. At least, I haven't seen much better.

Hey canucks,

What's a good caliber larger to look at for my first rifle?

Needs to be larger than a .22 cause I'm not a pussy.

I will be taking it with me when I go hiking in the woods. It will only be used for plinking at trees and scaring off animals

Merry christmas
>>
>>32440158

>plinking at trees
This is a bad idea.

As for a caliber, .308.
>>
>>32440158
SKS. Cheap rifle, cheap ammo (especially surplus), easy to clean, tough, reliable, reasonably accurate. If you have the extra money for it, I do recommend the VZ58 as an upscale alternative, though they are getting a bit more expensive than what I'd pay for one.
>Also shooting at trees generally kills them
>>
>>32440185
Thanks. What are good things to plink at in the woods?
>>
>>32440199
Thanks. Everyone says SKS. That's what my CFSC instructor recommended.

Here in BC we have tons of fallen trees.
>>
>>32440200
Bring targets and a stand for them. Set them up with a small hill behind them. Look for rocks or other things that could cause a ricochet. You could make some reactive targets (tannerite and the like) for more kaboom.
>>
>>32440199
Where can I go to buy an SKS or VZ58?

>>32440224
Sounds good and cool. Will plan further before pulling any triggers. Thanks
>>
Is a bolt action a good first rifle?
>>
>>32440210
Stumps are generally good. Sometimes just whatever natural fixtures you spot that aren't alive (dead trees, patches of dirt, etc) on the opposing hill. Do try to have a natural hill to shoot into, or at least shoot down into a valley to reduce risk of accidental injury.
>>32440238
>Where can I go to buy an SKS or VZ58?
Online. Most online retailers have SKSs for sale, prices vary. You missed out on some good deals for SKSs on the Black Friday weekend, but there should be some good ones tomorrow. VZ58s are around, the only retailer I know with any in stock at the moment is tradeexcanada.com which is where I ordered from.
>>32440246
Depends on experience. .22 is generally good to start on if you never shot before, or are concerned about cost or recoil. There are various intermediate options available if you want something bigger, or you don't mind paying a bit more. There are obviously assorted larger ones for hunting or longer range target shooting if you are already somewhat experienced. Bolt actions are generally easy to clean, simply remove bolt, clean bolt face, clean barrel, and relax.
>>
>>32440238
>Where can I go to buy an SKS or VZ58?
Cabelas has SKS, so does Canadian Tire. For VZ.58s, there's a bunch of online stores that stock them- check the sponsors on Canadiangunnutz.

>>32440246
It was for me.
>>
>>32440267
>>32440279
Thanks. I think I'm going to look for a .308 bolt-action.

Is it a good idea to get a rifle that comes with a scope?

Is there any performance difference in synthetic vs wood stock?
>>
>>32440426
>Is it a good idea to get a rifle that comes with a scope?

Package deals can be alright, but you may want to buy something else that will serve you better. I think the best rule is to research. I bought a scope separately.

>synthetic vs wood stock

Synthetic will do better in the rain and high humidity. Wood handles really cold temperatures better. You'll feel slightly less recoil with a wood stock that is the same weight as a synthetic.

Given that you are in BC, a synthetic or laminate stock may be best for you.
>>
>>32440426
>glass/scope
for a starter I wouldn't worry much about getting a $1500. Generally if a rifle comes with a scope, it'll work well with that scope.

>stock
No real performance difference, especially for a starter, unless you plan on pushing past 600m, then bedding is more important.
>>
>>32440463
As a note, this is if your definition of performance for a bolt action is strictly accuracy and precision.
>>
>>32440426

IMO synthetic stocks feel like cheap shit. Wood or laminate feel more sturdy.

.308 might be a bit more recoil than you're expecting if you've never gone shooting before. That being said, you can usually get a Savage Axis+glass combo fairly cheap, which you'll need since .308 is typically over a dollar per shot.

Relatively new to firearms in Canada, and I just can't wrap my head around Restricted firearms. Am I reading it correctly, where ALL semi-automatic weapons in a rifle caliber are considered restricted? I'm considering getting an SKS, but if I need a restricted fuck that.
>>
>>32440919
>Are you going to build a network of tunnels?
Of course!

I'll tell her that I'm digging the basement and foundation of her eventual cottage, as well as making a berm for shooting against.

It's 2 kliks to the closest neighbor as well, and the property is situated so that there's a hill sloping up on one end that can be used to backstop any stray rounds in a pinch as well. Beautiful, quiet, lake-front property.

No promises.. but when the weather gets warm, and if everything else is going else, we might have a new place to hold /k/ meetups.

Also.... Merry /K/ristmas everyone!!!
>>
>>32442723
Semi autos, as a general rule, are only restricted if they have a barrel shorter than 18.5", with the exception of the ar-15 which is named restricted.
>>
>>32442973
And the SKS's barrel falls in at 20", awesome. Thanks for the help, anon.
>>
>>32442723
If its named on this list it's prohibited: http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-98-462/FullText.html
If its the AR15, or the barrel length is shorter than 18.5" than it's restricted.
Otherwise it's non-restricted, and this includes such offerings as a stock SKS, VZ58 with an 18.6" barrel, SVT-40, and Tavor.

I just don't get it. For anyone who isn't a cripple or like 70 years old, pic related can probably eat through 12" of snow nearly as fast as a snowblower. And it doesn't cost anything besides calories.

>>32454301
The pic on their website is of a Russian crate, but below it's listed as being Chinese. And it's 1500 rounds (25x30x2) which, as far as I know, is how Chinese ammo is packaged.
>>
>>32454373
Yeah, I was getting tired of doing it with a 12" shovel so I went and bought a 24" scoop and I was done in no time.

Nobody under the age of 55 should even own a snow blower.
>>
Also even nearly all of the electric 1 stage blowers were sold out. You're better off shoveling with a wooden spoon at that point.
>>
>>32454397
And if they're going to burn $1000 on an emergency snowblower, why not hire someone to clear their driveway so they can sit on their ass instead? Lots of people in my city do that, and many of them aren't even richfags.

We each had a 40oz of old English at this burger place before i took that so we were driving not sober if that makes a difference

>>32454373
I have some shitbox old steel tank of a snowblower somewhere. I should put treads on it and paint it in Slav tank camo.

That's some ghetto assed shit.

OE is still a thing?

Shit, I remember when I first turned 18, that's what I would buy. That and those plastic 2L bottles of wine cooler.

Fucking what.
>>
>>32454439

When I was a kid I made fucking bank going door to door with a snow shovel. Do kids still do that? I also mowed lawns in the summer and raked leaves in the fall.

>not being on the grind since child
>>
>>32457354
Nope. Kids are pretty useless these days. Well I mean their parents are useless. Most kids I find are actually eager to find a sense of purpose, their lazy stoner parents are just useless at finding them that sense of purpose
>>
>>32457388

Well shit, that's sad. I'm torn between wanting to find a nice younger girl to start a family with, and just giving up on society altogether and moving to the woods with my guns.
>>
>>32457400
>starting a family in these troubling and uncertain times
Only have a kid if you know theyll have a future
>>
>>32457420

That's one side of it, but the shortage of kids who aren't raised by cucks and feminists is part of the problem.
>>
>>32457450
>>32457420
I could go further into this, but I'm not drunk enough yet.
>>
>>32457470

>>
>>32457482
People are just really easily brainwashed by (((academia))), and academia spent decades promoting the destruction of monogamy and the family unit, which was basically the entire pillar of western civilization. Look at us now. Our civilization is crumbling.
>>
>>32457450
No matter how you teach them and raise them you never know what other outside influences will change their opinion, like the cucks and sjws, cause in most cases nowdays, both parents have to work to make enough, leaving only the schools, tv, amd the Internet to raise kids, the lack of a strong family household and both parental figures is one of the main contributing factor to most of societies problems, and the people in charge know that, cause they created this situation cause if they can break up the family household, get both parents out of the house and working fulltime, they can profit off the next generations future cause they have full reign on how they grow up. Pretty much the only way to avoid that is living a farming or country lifestyle way outside of the cities but even that is becoming hard to achieve
>>
I blame the internet.

Never heard of Leninade?

There's also Not See Kola (Which I'm told tastes quite similar to crystal pepsi).

can vouch. I'm currently going to UVIC and the amount of left leaning shit i see and deal with all the time is staggering.

Some kids were doing a "the government owes us free university" rally and some chick asked me if i believed in the cause.

>I'll pay for my school, i wont spend the rest of my life paying for yours.

She looked appalled

If you have a 12.2 prohib license anyways. Not like you'll ever get to take it out, unless you have a range on your own land.

SKS before the 200$ price hike due to import markings.

I think 90% of the issue would be resolved if most SVTs weren't bedded so fucking shittily in their stocks.

True, but there's also that godawful gas port adjustment system. Seriously, if it was built like modern systems that adjust automatically it would be wonderful, but no, it's an overcomplicated pile of fun.
