I kinda miss print magazines. When I was a kid, before the internet ruined print media, I used to read so many magazines.

I'd have Guns and Ammo, Guns, Gun Digest, Car and Driver, Motortrend, Autocar, Dupont Registry, Gun Catalogs of all kinds, Knife Magazines. Fucking stacks of these things. Loved 'em. I remember when the baby glocks first came out the coverage was great.

Hell, I'd even read all the manuals and promotional material my dad would bring home form the gun store.

Now, I get all that type of content from youtube, or /k/, /o/, other forums, etc. Which is fine, because i can access all the information I want very quickly. But there was just something about thumbing through those magazines every day. I'd even read about shit I wasn't that interested in, but then discover that it was interesting after all.

I think about getting back into them, to have something to read in the shitter or whatever. But then I remember that it's 2016 and I have a smartphone.

A simpler time. Technology is convenient. But I can't tell if it's just nostalgia, or if the information/entertainment truly was more rewarding when it wasn't as instantaneously granted.

oh holy shit this actually remind me of a guy I knew in high school. Always in the library lookin at the guns and shit, and he'd talk your ears off giving you details about all these obscure guns one day I talked to him and asked why do you like guns so much.

He said he'd been diagnosed with ADD and his roll model was any firearm. I thought he was shitting me and called him out on it and he just smiled and pulled out a picture of an M14 that had most of its internals showing. He told me that every single part looks like it does its own thing and doesn't contribute like his brain, but everything is actually interconnected and functions for a greater whole. I ended up snapping in the third year of wrestling on some dopey pothead that was one of our all-star vets, a friend in the gym at the time said I'd had his throat in a death grip and my eyes locked onto his, a guy literally twice my size. After they pulled me off him it felt like coming out of a black haze and I freaked, grabbed my shit, cussed out the team, and walked out of school, that was the last day of sports for me and I started skipping all my classes and eventually dropped out.

The guy eventually tracked me down and started pumping me for whether or not I was gonna go columbine on the school "and all those assholes on the team" and that, "since we were buddies", I'd let him know when to stay home.

California anon here, most high schools in my side of the Bay seldom do anything ROTC related. I think harassment by the students and faculty is a reason why I see zero or anyone doing it when I was still in school. I think the teachers actively tried to ban ROTC but I don't remember if they ever did. Funnily enough San Francisco has more robust ROTC programs than my shitty school district ever had.
