Used an adjustable wrench as ghetto calipers because I don't own real calipers

The one on the right is thicker in the middle which means it's not possible that it's a fake made from a regular AKSU booster that was turned down on a lathe to be smooth

It's also more rounded at the front shoulder.

I don't have a scale either but I'm assuming the one on the right is heavier as well by virtue of being thicker in the middle.

The paint and machining is perfectly in line with what I'd expect from a genuine part.

The guy who sold it to me wouldn't give me any details of how he got it aside from telling me it's a prototype AKSU booster. I believe him

I'm looking to get my first AK, ive had plenty of handling on my friend's while he had it. And I've finally come around to wanting one, but its pretty daunting seeing pieces of shit like WASRs go for so much
what should i get thats not horribly expensive but not total shit either? hopefully not over $1100.
are my options limited even more if i wanted an AK in 5.45?
>>
>>32289534
7.62 is so much more fun to shoot though
I mean I do think 5.45 is the best current standard issue cartridge in the world in terms of ballistics, accuracy, etc., but 5.45 AKs are almost as boring to shoot as 5.56 ARs, though they aren't quite as boring
7.62 is infinitely more fun to shoot, and especially because he is brand new to rifles, I bet your friend will agree

>>32289628

>>
>>32289634
Yes, there are very few AKs worth getting in 5.45. Arsenal and converted Saigas are basically your only choice there, unless you want those new FIME VEPR rifles, which are nice but supremely overbuilt (they have RPK receivers) and are missing several features.
In terms of cheap first AKs, it kinda depends on what your priorities are. WASR and Interarms are both good for cheap, low-end AKs that will use standard furniture and whatnot. PAPs are a little more heavily built, but take non-standard furniture. AMDs are a mix of both, basically being a regular AK while still taking non-standard furniture (until you modify it).
>>
>>32289675
Different guy here, I was looking at those new VEPR's, because they're built off an RPK does that mean standard 47/74 furniture won't fit on them?
>>
>>32289663
Ok, sorry for the stupid question.
>>
>>32289675
i dont think i'd do much to it, i basically want it just to take out shooting everytime i go. i feel bad beating up my windham so much. but if i could find a good deal on a nice 74 platform AK i would probably baby the hell out of it. so maybe i should just get a WASR to bang up and save up for something in 5.45.
would i be wrong to get a WASR? will i get my money out of it or will it start falling apart on me after 10k rounds?

>>
>>32289727
I'm not sure about furniture on those, sorry. I'm not versed in the differences between RPK and regular AK furniture. If it doesn't fit by default I'm sure it's possible to modify.
>>32289737
No, WASRs are well-known for being low-end AKs that can take thousands and thousands of rounds. The only things to keep in mind, really, are the possibility of canted sights and mag wobble, which I've heard have been reduced, if not entirely mitigated, the last few years. Also the wood that comes on them is 600% garbage, you'll want to switch it out immediately.
Be aware they're pretty overpriced for what they are nowadays. If you want an AK you can beat around for less than $700 I would get an Interarms. They're not very well known because not many people buy them (really not sure why), but they're pretty nice. Just be aware that the finish is gray parkerized instead of blued.
As for 5.45 AKs, I would save your shekels for an SLR104. That's what I'm currently doing.

Functionally they're all about the same, they just have different stocks, or maybe a pistol version.
If you want a rifle version, you can't go wrong with this one.
http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-rifles/czech-small-arms-vz-58-military-detail.html?Itemid=0

And even though you can't put AK parts on them, there is a decent accessory market for these, so you can buy different stocks, muzzle brakes, mags, etc for them. You just have to do some googling.

If your dog is an aggressive shithead that roams around trying to kill other people's dogs then it needs to get put down by somebody, don't feel too bad. Two of my uncles live right next to me and their dogs are really aggressive and territorial because of how they were raised really. My dog is not like that at all. If they get out of their electric fence and attack my elderly dog then they're gonna get hurt if I'm around to see it happen. Doesn't matter if it's my uncle's, my dog gets priority to me.

Dude if you didn't toss the original trigger guard get you a dremel and some Jb weld as well as a pop rivet gun. It will look a lot better after you paint it. Did you plug the receiver holes at least? If not once again JB weld is your friend if not rape a quarter to the inside of the receiver and fill those holes. Don't worry about how it looks initially your gonna resand and repaint that bitch anyways.

Yikes. I ran into my ex downtown for the 4th time last night. This time she didn't immediately run out the door, instead she positioned herself at the bar in the vicinity of the door so we had to pass by her when we left.
she was a whore anyways but its always funny to see her

Anyways, what do you guys think about the M72B1? Found a parts kit for $320 shipped. Considering picking it up but I already have an AES-10b and I also hate myself for buying so many guns and gun accessories and not living my life.

Just got back, took the Obzor off to put the rifle in a bag and forgot it at home so he didn't get to use it

He liked both but actually preferred the SLR, but was kind of disappointed when I told him how much they cost after he asked. I brought 10 mags or ammo for each gun and we shot it all. This was the second time I've shot the Maadi and although the stock isn't as bad as it seems I still prefer my vz.

5.45 is *STILL* a best tho

Oh and it was snowing up where we shot so that was something fun

what? AK optics rails have been a thing since the AKMN in the 1960s. They're not welded on by bubba, they're riveted onto the receiver by the factory.

Most import models nowadays have them as standard, besides maybe underfolders.

The side rail isn't welded onto the rifle and was introduced in 1978. Tell me how that isn't the traditional way of mounting an optic on the rifle when thet was literally what the Soviets designed it for (well night vision optics specifically but optics nonetheless)

Here's both of them when the orange one (Otto) was actually smaller than than the grey one (Ivan)

Now he's a big boy, not fat just big. Whenever we take him to the vet they have a hard time drawing blood because his chest is all muscle so they have to get blood straight from his neck. He's big and heavy but he's a giant baby who is literally afraid of his own shadow and gets puffy at the tiniest things and is a giant orange literal scaredy cat.

How did you manage to break a trunnion like that????

sharp knife, and be gentle with it.

rub on it with some solvent for a while first, then rub it off, any welded on carbon you can scrape off.

>>32301011
Yeah. That's not a D. They take standard AK mags.
>>

I was about to say that.

>>32301011
I would have bought it for that price.
>>
>>32301033
Well hell, I'm no aka expert, parroting what was "known" about it when I bought it. A friend was getting divorced and somehow she ended up with the guns, gave the closest info she thought was correct, and I got sent stupid deals. Got a 10/22 same day for $60. Bersa thunder 380 for 60 also. It cut into the "Christmas all fund" but I doubt anyone would do any different in that situation.
>>
>>32292178
>>32292225
I question this. The weapon in your image seems to be marked 52/57. If it is, it should chamber 7.62x39. If not, then they are correct and you will have to hand load 7.62x45.
>>

Autocorrect.. SKS not aka.obviously. And Christmas ak. fund. I'm over this phone posting stuff.

$150 for a regular SKS is still a good deal.

Reminder: The Molot Vepr with the thumbstock unchanged is 10/10 dad gift material.

>Isn't (new fangle) polymer
>Is historic (AK history lessons from paw)
>Won't break (fangle RAS always breaks)
>Can be modified to accept high cap
>Wood finish = varnish
>Less maintenance is good for old folk

Molot cornered and btfo all other AK producers for the dad-gift market.

One of East Germany's biggest exports was firearms. The Soviet Union, China, and East Germany were the big three AK producers and exporters. East German AKs are EVERYWHERE, there are even East German AKMs still in inventory in Finland.

>>
>>32302917
O H , B O Y ! ! !
>>
>>32302699
Absolutely terrible.

Magazines over ten rounds are now considered illegal this next year.

Detachable magazine centerfire rifles may not have a pistol grip or flash hider, unless you register as an assault weapon, or permanently fix the magazine in place, so that it may not be removed without disassembling the action.

In order to register as an assault weapon you must have owned it before the end of 2015, and you only have the chance to register from July to December of next year. If registered as an assault weapon, it is nontransferrable (cannot be sold or given away, such as to your kids), transportation is strictly regulated, and the rifle basically belongs toto the state.

How about handgun for self-defence?
>>
>>32303414
Handgun has to be certified by the state and on a very specific list certified for sale, no threaded barrels, or magazines outside the pistol grip, unless it has a fixed magazine. The selection is limited to mostly older or base model designs, or popular stuff.

1. What's that called where you use your fresh mag to flip the mag release and pop out the spent mag, then insert the fresh mag?

2. Do you guys do that with bakes/plums? I've only seen youtube operators doing that with steel mags. I'd be a big concerned about fucking up bakes/plums by doing that.

Yeah, got it off of eBay. I asked the guy how it ended up in his hands since he mentioned in the description that he got it in Tikrit; he told me he was an EOD company commander and this bayonet was one that was saved from the destruction of an arms cache during OIF II in the mid-2000s.
