So question.

If DDI's extractors keep shitting the bed, would replacing it with a military surplus extractor of some sort resolve any issues related to that? Or would they be non-compatible.

And secondly, does this last round of DDI failures make WASR and Arsenal the reigning champions of production AK-47/AKM style rifles in the US?

(I'm leaving Vepr out since they build many of their rifles off RPK receivers, not saying the aren't great)

The pineapple lifesaver or the cutdown bakelite?
>>
>>32184555
Both are fine. WASR is more customizable since it'd a standard AKM and this has a sizeable aftermarket.

Yugos use special snowflake furniture and have ~75% parts compatibility. Also no chrome-lining in the barrel but Zastava barrels are also beefier to compensate for this.

I have both, and my Yugo is the better built of the two, but I'd give the WASR the edge as an intro to the platform due to aftermarket and standard ergos.

>>
>>32184881
Cool, thanks. I was leaning a bit towards the WASR for the chrome lining.
>>
>>32184992
Chrome lining is less of a big deal than it's made out to be on the internet. Only you can decide if it's a deal-breaker or not.

Juat bear in mind that it was mostly introduced to small arms to increase barrel life under sustained automatic fire. Corrosion resistance is also better. There really aren't downsides to having it.

However, that said, those Zastava barrels are also extremely high quality and have seen use in conflicts all over the world. They've survived and shone through worse conditions than you're ever going to put the gun through.

Like I said, it's up to you and there's really not a downside to a chromed bore but the internet makes it a bigger deal than it actually is.

Probably you're not ever going to shoot out either barrel and frankly if you can afford enough 7.62x39 to do so then you've probably got more than just the one AK anyway.

Russian Armed Forces will receive kits for independent modernization of AK-74, he told reporters Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.

TULA, September 19 - RIA Novosti. Russian Armed Forces will receive kits for independent modernization of AK-74, he told reporters on Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.

"(Developer) in three variants will feature versions that will not alter the existing weapons in the Armed Forces, and to send kits for retrofitting machines already in the parts", - said Rogozin.

According to him, this is a simple assembly, spare parts are discarded and new parts are installed. "The machine turns out, in fact, a new class", - said Deputy Prime Minister.

According to Rogozin, in early October, it assumes show Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev modified AK-74.

"These weapons are convenient and ultra-reliable The problem was the same -. That it was not a good sight, a laser pointer and a thermal sight", - he said.

Previously, Professor of the Academy of Military Science, Victor Korablin in an interview with RIA Novosti said that the necessity of the transition of the Russian army on a fundamentally new types of small arms from the world-famous "Kalashnikovs" (AK-74) No, we can talk about their upgrading to the level of AK -74M. He also noted that the existing armed with AK-74 can be upgraded to a simple strap installation for optical and electro-optical sights, which will significantly improve the accuracy of shooting, adding that the Russian Defense Ministry refused to purchase an upgraded version of the AK-74M, produced by the plant "Izhmash" .

The expert recalled that in addition to sight leaf modernized machine has other important characteristics, such as a folding plastic butt, structural strength of a number of parts, as well as the new grenade launcher GP-34.

that price is about the going rate right now for a brand new one, but I don't know about shipping to alaska from L48 businesses, so that may jack the price of a new one way up.

but then there are 500 rounds and some mags added, so that sweetens the deal.
I'm not a fan of that style folding stock, but if you wanted to you could order other furniture pretty cheaply.

It's not bad right now. but if you wait a while the price on brand new WASR's will probably come back down below $600. maybe.
>>
Want your guys opinions on a few things. Wanting to replace the ugly blonde wood furniture on my wasr I bought(2015 production) with surplus wood, or polymer, but not sure which. If wood, I'd like to get a handguard set with the wooden foregrip, and a stock with door for cleaning kit, or at least one that I can put the equipment on, so no solid stocks. Best place to get these? If polymer, what set is good quality, didn't have to be the best, but don't want cheap tapco/mako stuff, and would prefer a heat shield but not a deal breaker. And last, what is a good muzzle break around +/- $50-75? Thanks in advance.
>>
>>32187245
Get wood from files or apexgunparts.

If polymer is desired get some asrsenal it will still have the place for the kit in the stock. The handguard is steel reinforced

>>
>>32187277
Thanks friend, what are your opinions/ advice on a good muzzle brake?
>>
>>32187495
Well my opinion is going to be a slant brake.
Id stay away from tapco, if you can find a dtk-2 brake those are sweet
>>
>>32187474
Well, my AK I'm going to be pushing more towards CQB since I'm coverting my AR to be a SAW so I have a better effective coverage of ranges between my 5.56 rifles. So high-cap, goofy ass long mags probably isn't what I'm looking for.

Also, twenties would let me get lower to the ground and give me more capacity than 10-rounders since I hunt a lot with this rifle.
>>
>>32187516
>Well my opinion is going to be a slant brake.
After what it did to my shooting on a vz2008, I'm never letting one of those things on a gun of mine again.
Every test I've seen comparing slant brakes to anything else shows that it's very poor at being a brake, both in recoil reduction, and stopping muzzle rise.
>>
>>32187538

I think an rpk flash hider or tapco slotted looks better personally. If I'm going to put an almost non-brake on my gun, I'd at least rather have a flash hider that looks decent.
>>32187560
>>32187592
On the vz2008, it actually effected my shot placement quite a bit too. I think there's got to be some gas blowby that acts on the bullet. It was making feet of difference, up and right IIRC, when I was shooting at my 400 yard steel.

the most high quality rifles in the states are sold by Altantic or Arsenal, and are around $1000 or so. the DAKM is generally thought of as the best.
at $2000, you start getting into AKM derivatives like the PSL or VEPR, which are also quite nice, but not the classic AK experience.
>>
>>32187630
Huh ive never shot my wasr past 300m max, but ive had no issues with shot placement. There are definitely better options.

>>32187665
Depends on the features you want ? Milled sam7 are ugly but good guns, slr104s and 106s are solid too. If you can find a slr 107 get that. You will have to pick a caliber
>>

>>32187686
It means the receiver is milled from a block of steel, vs stamped which means it's made out of stamped sheet steel.

ask yourself how much you want a bulged receiver and gas block with grenade sight/cutoff

Does your desire for those two cosmetic features outweigh the benefit of the entire gun being made in a Zastava factory on Zastava tooling with a CHF barrel?

Because your US-made barrel and receiver aren't going to be as nice as the Serb ones, though they might look cooler.

How and where to get GP-25 that can fit on ak? don't care if deact or repro just so long as it fits on my 104fr
>>
>>32190759
It's really, actually not.

A milled AK has a much longer theoretical life-expectancy than a stamped gun.

It's just that the life-expectancy of both is so aatronomically high that the debate is purely theoretical. By the time you've hit the magic number where the receiver has started to go, you'll have rebuilt the entire gun from the ground up replacing every other part several times.

There's a range in Las Vegas that has full-retard converted AKs they rent out to people. These guns go full-auto magdumps all day erry day (which is nothing like actual real-world use of these guns by you or any regular or irregular military in the world) and the lifespans of the milled receivers are longer than those of the stamped. But the stamped guns, in probably the most abusive environment you could put them in, will go through hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of ammunition before they fail.

Considering anyone arguing over this has a near-zero chance of even being able to afford enough ammo to shoot out the BARREL of their AK, arguing milled vs stamped on the virtue of the strength of stamped is pretty stupid.

You'll never notice that a milled receiver is stronger than a stamped. What you WILL notice is that it cost more, had a far shittier aftermarket, and weighed more.

If you think the Soviets didn't crunch the numbers on this shit you're retarded. The Russians are STILL fielding decades-old stamped guns.

Milled guns are a meme.

It's all fuddlore.

not sure, honestly.

No problem. Get some of that black high temp paint, like for an engine or bbq grill. Degrease the flash hider. Paint it. Let it dry thoroughly (at least 24 hours). then use an old wire coat hanger or something similar and hang it from the oven rack and bake it for a few hours at the recommended temp.

How is Red Army Standard 60gr 5.45? A local shop stocks it for $0.27 per round and while that's a little more than what I pay to buy online it's nice that it's a 5 minute drive away and if it isn't trash I'm gonna buy a few boxes a week just to keep a steady flow of 5.45 coming in.
>>
>>32192322
Dunno about their 5.45 but their 7.62 is just above Tula tier. Not absolute shit but still worse than most.

So when Russian soldiers tape up shit on their AKs, they use the blue tape that's widely available.

Well in this case, it does. I've owned an M1917 as well as a couple Mk.III* (The original Mk.III came out in 1907 as I recall) Lee Enfields along with a P07 (Pattern 1907) bayonet. I have never owned an M1897-style shotgun, but, I HAVE tried to fit the P07 (and even the M1 Rifle) bayonet onto the M1917, and neither would fit. I kind of have an affinity for bayonets so I definitely would have tried to see which rifles they would fit, but the P07 is not an M1917 bayonet. I can assure you of that.

I can recall talking to this one American dude who seemed to get downright insulted/shaken when I said the M1917 rifle is essentially British. It's just a rechambered P14 (Pattern 1914) rifle, which is a British design. He said it's not British at all and is completely German. While the bolt IS clearly taking quite a lot from the Mauser action, as well as the bolt release, mag, and the end of the wooden stock is clearly very Mauser-like, but the buttstock, cock-on-close action, method of bolt disassembly, and safety are all thoroughly non-Mauser. The sights are also non-Mauser. So the M1917 might have been manufactured in America, and have German influence, but it clearly has a touch of British to it as well, and he simply could not stand to think that the rifle that Americans used most in WWI was British in the least. Could not fathom or accept the mere thought, and said it was German German German.

Speaking of which, isn't the Remington 700 based off the P14/M1917? If it's not, then it CLEARLY has a lot of influence from it, save for the fact it's cock-on-open instead of the superior cock-on-close.

Also, fuck this picture-captcha bullshit... I literally just got this. How do I make a circle with a fucking square?! Where's Mr. PoPo?!

I love 7.62x39, but largely, I think I'm gonna have to disagree with you and Lt. Gen. Mikhail Kalashnikov.

5.45
>More accurate
>Lighter
>Still capable of impressive penetration (7N6>M193 7N10>M855)
>Bullet is smaller but dat tumbling tho
>Lighter recoil

7.62x39
>Retains energy/velocity better (Superior LMG round?)
>Better for hunting
>Better against armour?
>Better at penetrating cover?

Nah, in most situations, 5.45x39 is the better round. For innawoods though, 7.62x39 all the way. Can't carry as much, but if you get some soft point rounds, you're probably good to get even moose. That said though... I wonder... would the tumbling of 5.45 make it good for deer? The combination of penetration and tumbling might also make it good enough for moose too, even though it's FMJ. Illegal, yes, but if I had to use FMJ to hunt... I dunno... 5.45 would probably be better to hunt with than 7.62x39 in terms of FMJ vs FMJ. Thoughts?

7.62x39 is a premier SHTF/survival, whatever fantasy term you like, caliber IMO. M67 does well, there's plenty of 8HP out there nobody seems interested in. I'd take 5.45 in a tactical situation, but 7.62 was literally perfect for unorganized militia types
>>
>>32193491
Which is why I, as an American private firearm owner who doesn't own anything full-auto or has to engage in tactical situations, prefer 7.62x39. Hell, forget SHTF fantasy, it's a solid round for something like ranch rifles, as evidenced by the existence of the Mini-30.
>>
>>32193448
I think it started before hiroshimoot, everyone loved it because you would just click and it would give you a green check with no work, then people started getting weird things occiasonally where it would say "select all pineapples" and they would screencap it and add it to their post, and now you pretty much have to do two picture captchas every time.

I wonder what barrel length you'd need to cut down to in order to get that 123gr bullet going 2250 ft/s instead of 2350 ft/s as seen in the 16.3" barrel. 2250 ft/s was the STG-44's muzzle velocity with its 125gr bullets (if memory serves), so 7.62x39 at 2250 ft/s is LITERALLY pretty much 7.92x33. If I had to guess... 13"? That's little more than a guess, really; I don't know a whole lot about how much difference there is in velocity between barrel lengths. I think the SKS had 2450 or 2500 ft/s, didn't it? That's with 3.7" more length, so perhaps 12.5" would mimic 7.92x33 from an STG.

It's not necessarily military issue, just the most common in Russia.
