I got it out of sheer curiosity of the lv-mbav, and for that swift clip chest rig.
Right now I prefer it over my crye AVS just for sheer comfort reasons.

>what size did you get.
s/m to fit my medium sized plates.

>>32105711
I emailed Crye back when the LV first showed up in their catalogue about when it might go on sale and got a very politely worded "Fuck Off".

Supposedly First Spear has their own version developed in conjunction with Crye, but there's all of zero info about it out there.

So where do you guys get your ifak contents? I'm about to pull the trigger on some kind of ifak pouch for my battle belt, but i'm at a loss as to where I should buy all the shit I need to put into it.

Of course I only know basic medical stuff so I won't be purchasing anything like NPA's or what not.

It depends if you plan on buying a premade one or get it piece by piece.

Honestly dude, I shopped around a lot and for the most part Amazon is going to have your best prices on shit like that.

Anyone ever find a cheaper way to do it?
>>
>>32105850
Ebay. its potentially cheaper but it takes a while to figure out what is the best deal and in what condition.

Otherwise its immensely rewarding.

So Gear Queers...

In a SHTF scenario whatever it may be, I need to go out and get resources or do whatever outside of my home/bug out.

I probably don't want to look like a future soldier or madda cheeb with all that weight and equipment.
Would a warbelt/ plate carrier setup with molle up the ass sound about right for a vepr ak/ glock 17 setup? Or does someone have a different setup idea for being out all day with some tools, firstaid, and rifle & pistol setup. I would wear underneath whatevers appropriate for the weather I wouldn't go crazy with camos unless I can think of something matching michigans metro detroit woodland.

Example setup picture attached (not mine)

Look at a premade ifak and buy the contents on eBay. Most kits are around $100 for essentially an Israeli bandage, a few pieces of gauze, and tape.

I think I spent around $150, but I got four Israeli bandages, almost a thousand packs of gauze in various sizes, 400 nitrile gloves, fuckload of band aids, chest seals, and two tqs. Plus a good bit of medicine to use for a separate boo boo kit.

Make your main ifak, make a car ifak, make a dank home trauma kit, and make little med packs to keep at work or give to friends or whatever.

New to /GQ/, but I'm the anon that asked about the Monkey Stomper 2 threads ago (I think). A couple people said it would be to heavy to go onto a belt, and I'm inclined to agree after doing a mock load with an AK pouch on my leather belt. Even with a fully loaded pistol, it was too much weight on one side. So, What if I put it on my Banshee, and make my belt Pistol and IFAK only?

> Banshee would hold a Monkey Stomper, Radio, plates, chem lights, and maybe some misc stuff.
> Slim Belt would hold Pistol, Knife, Dump pouch, IFAK, Gloves.
> Backpack should hold everything else I need.

Thoughts? Kind of a total noob to this, so any help is appreciated.

What can you say about it's downsides?
The only downside I can come up with right now is the mbav soft armor cut. and all my gripe is that the mbav soft armor kind of wings out at the bottom making more surface area in contact with my skin and causes me to sweat more.

>How bad is not having hydration attached to the back and being limited only to chest rig platforms?
I'm of the opinion that attaching hydration packs to PC is just terrible. it gets in the way of your patrol pack and generally makes vehicle work a chore.

pic related is an example of how I usually like to carry my water , but sometimes I just throw a bottle in my: cargo pocket, mag pouch, rucksack, dump pouch or just leave it in the vehicle.

A nice thing about having your Pack not attached to your PC that goes overlooked, you can take off you pack slam it on the ground and use it as a shooting rest when engaging a targets at a distance.

who says I'm nailed down to a chest rig?
I can always take the chest rig off and put on some webbing or a tac vest over the slick PC if I desire.

That is the best possible situation you could ever find yourself in. It means you've learned something.

Only through experimentation and personal experience are we able to fully understand what works best for our own needs and applications.

Sometimes a few of things we try just don't work out. Sometimes none of it does. But you now have a better foundation of knowledge to build off of in deciding your next equipment selection.

You don't want to become the GQ Fudd who's never tried anything different yet proclaims their way to be the best and only way.

Your predicament might cost you slightly in the short term, but the personal gain will have made it worth it. Especially considering it's likely bound to happen again.

Firearm and ammo alone, I wager that to be around 18.5lb for perhaps 226 rounds if I had to guess? Both in terms of weight and amount of ammo?

For some reason, those mags are REALLY fucking with me. I want to say it's 7.62x39 but it just doesn't seem to have quite ENOUGH curve. Anyways...

>AK-74

15.8lb if I had to try and guess as accurately as possible. I don't know why though, but when I see someone who owns multiple versions of the same gear, there's just something both desperately lonely about it, yet awesomely chill. For instance if it was a dire straights situation where everything was going to fuck, but some dude just came up to me, said I seemed like a decent guy, then handed me that stuff if I went with him, then he'd instantly become my best fucking friend. Meh, hopefully whoever owns those has a /k/-tier (God-tier) girlfriend to outfit with it.

alright, let's see... looks like an AKM of sorts, I'm seeing... 9 mags in total? Looks like that dark green one to the top right might hold more though, I dunno, but I already have a feeling that I'm not gonna like this loadout weight. Hopefully those mag pouches hold 1 mag each instead of 2. 7.62x39 ain't light, mane.

Pistol looks like a CZ of some sort though the Jericho looks similar as I recall. I'll just stick with the CZ for now. Can't see any spare mags... OH! Middle two AK mag pouches; 2 little pistol-mag pockets on each? 5 mags total? Yikes. So let's call it...

>AKM w/... some kind of fucking bigass muzzle brake
7lb?
>9 plastic AKM mags
13lb?
>CZ or Jericho
2lb
>5 mags (just gonna guess 15 rounds each and it's in 9mm)
2.5-3lb?

>24.5-25lb for 345 rounds. That... actually doesn't sound THAT bad considering you have so fucking much ammo. Still, generally speaking, I think 6 spare mags of 7.62x39 is better to go with. Get rid of 2 mags, and you're down to about 21-21.5lb. But hey, if we were to talk about a longterm survival situation, and if you managed to save your ammo for mostly hunting, you'd be set for fucking YEARS.

So we're at 13.5lb with 150 rounds. A loaded Glock 19 would bring it at perhaps 15.5lb for 165 rounds? Can't quite remember how much a Glock 19 weighs. I'm guessing around 1.5lb unloaded. 15 rounds 9mm is about .4lb I figure, and the mag shouldn't add much more on top of that.

Keep in mind that all this weight stuff I'm doing is just off the top of my head with guesstimations based on information I've autistically memorized somehow. I also recall Chinese and Hungarian steel 75rnd drums for 7.62x39 being around 5lb loaded, as is the 100-rnd beta-mag thing when loaded with 5.56/.223. Loaded STANAG mags are about 1.1lb (though heavier bullets can increase this slightly), vZ.58 mags are 1.6lb loaded, 3 SKS clips is 1.2lb, plastic/bakelite AKM mags are around 1.65lb loaded, and the steel AKM mags are... 1.8 or 1.9lb loaded? Bah, hard to remember. I just find it fun to try and figure out weights based on firearms/ammo, but I'm shitty with most everything else when it comes to gear weight.

The only thing you messed up on is that it's eight 30 round AK mags. (and that muzzle brake is super light, but off now) It's one 5 round mag in that green pouch. And yes, Jericho with 5 mags (though one of those is absolute shit and got replaced with a Smith and Wesson multitool) other than that, spot on man. I'm impressed.
>>
>>32108760

1 AK mag in the gun, 4 on the chest, 3 in the pouch and a 5 round one in the pouch as well.

The stitching, pockets, layout, and materials are head and heels above the rest of the competition, but 25% is the brand name price, I will admit. I kind of collect them because 2 is one and one is none. 5.11 is eh, kinda shitty, and drifire is g2g. With combat shirts your money goes into the stretch/wicking material and the stitching. If you want good combat shirts, you're pretty linited. Drifire, Crye, Patagonia, and some replicas like Semapo and FFI.
>>
>>32108794

>>
>>32108760
>>32108769
So you've got 9 mags after all, but it just so happens that one is really friggin' tiny. Anyways, thanks for the kind words, I quite enjoy this whole 'loadout weight' stuff. If it were me, I'd probably ditch the 5-rounder, take away 2 AKM mags but probably keep the ammo on SKS clips to keep it nice and neat (2.4lb instead of about 3.3lb; knocks off 1lb), and take away two mags, possibly leaving the 30 rounds of 9mm out of it. 30 rounds of 115gr 9mm is probably about .8-.9lb, heavier if it's 124gr of course, at least .9lb. The two steel mags themselves would also knock off a bit of weight. Check this out though...

>vZ.58
Roughly 6.5lb as I recall
>3 spare mags and 1 in the firearm (120 rounds)
6.4lb
>21 SKS clips (210 rounds)
8.4lb
>TOTAL for 330 rounds of 7.62x39)
21.3lb

Yeah that's without a sidearm, but let's try some more stuff.

>AR-15 with 14" barrel
Roughly 6.3lb
>11 STANAG mags (330 rounds)
12.1lb
>TOTAL for 330 rounds
18.4lb

Same amount of ammo for both, yet for 7.62x39, all that ammo is only 3lb heavier. Not too shabby. I'd definitely prefer to have 7.62x39 handy rather than 5.56/.223 when it came to hunting stuff like deer or bigger. Alright, that's enough ranting for one post.

I've considered dumping that side pouch all together, knocking 3 mags plus the 5 rounder out of the equation, and adding SKS stripper clips. I actually already have a couple clips loaded, though I never shoot my SKS, it's just a dust collector right now. but I have 2 clips of 124gr HP and I think 5 clips of 124FMJ right now. I'd have to look for specific numbers, but that feels right. Plus I have a ziplock baggie of like 20 clips still unloaded.

Well a plastic AKM mag is about 1.65lb as I recall, while 3 SKS clips is 1.2lb. Nearly half a pound saved for every mag you swap for clips. Just a shame you can't use your AK as a mag loader like the vZ.58, but the Chinese made mag loaders. Ought to be cheap I figure, perhaps buy a couple. One for your loadout, and one as backup in a backpack or something just in case you lose or somehow break (lol) the mag loader. Since you can't reload the rifle with clips though, probably best to have more than just 3 spare magazines, not that I think you'd ever actually get in a situation where you need more than 120 rounds. Just better safe than sorry.

I really do find it fascinating that an SKS can carry nearly as much ammo as an AR15 of similar weight (say, one with a 20" barrel, bayonet, and cleaning kit. Ought to be about 8.5lb by then). 1.1lb for STANAG mag, 1.2lb for 3 SKS clips, rifle of similar weight... something to think about.
>>
>>32109083
Once your break down the numbers, you realize why the SKS was such an obvious choice for the gun you grab when you go to the woods.

>Affordable (at least in Canada it's pretty damn cheap)
>Reliable
>Easy to use
>Easy to maintain
>Cleaning kit in buttstock
>Accurate to a solid 300-400m (some have taken it to half a Kilometer)

Even the weight isn't too bad. 8.5lb? Try taking off the bayonet. Not light enough? Don't think you'll ever need the cleaning kit? You could take that out as well, possibly even remove the butt plate to take out the inner workings of the cleaning kit retention spring thing. With the bayonet and cleaning kit/spring removed, who knows, it might actually be less than 8lb unloaded. Personally however, I love having the bayonet and cleaning kit. The most I'd probably ever use the bayonet for is to just pierce an animal's throat that I hunted to make sure it's bled out, but if I'm going to gut it there on the spot there's not really any need so I can see why people would see it as unnecessary and just serving to make it more front heavy. Still, I like it, and hey, if worst comes to worse and I'm innawoods with someone trying to do me in and I'm out of ammo, I'd rather have a spear than a club, but talking about 'scenarios' like that is a pretty cringy thing to do.

Main downsides of the SKS is basically mag capacity and the fact there's no bolt hold-open so reloading without an empty mag is kind of a nightmare. Getting a Tapco mag helps though. More capacity, and surely there's some sort of method that can be used to awkwardly hold the bolt open while stuffing a clip in to get an extra ten rounds to play with. Anyways, in the majority of self-defence situations, only 1-3 shots are fired, so 10 is PLENTY. Speed reloading isn't a particularly useful thing either. If it comes down to having to reload in as few seconds as possible just to stay alive, then shit's fucked and you're probably not going to make it anyways.

>>
>>32109438
Huh, that's a new one. Well, for me it is at least. Funny lookin' little firearm, and 5lb unloaded is it? Damn, very nice. Still, I'd prefer 7.62x39 over .223/5.56 innawoods or hunting. If .30-30 can take down a moose, then 7.62x39 can as well, surely. .223/5.56 can as well, but I wouldn't trust it as much as 7.62x39. Wait, 3 10-rnd mags AND a non-magnifying optic for just 1.2lb of weight? .223/5.56 weigh about 35-38 rounds per pound, so without the weight of the mags or the dot, it's already a solid .8lb of ammo. Do you have, like, a carbine version of the Su-16 or something? I'm surious as to how much a loaded 10-rnd mag weighs. I doubt it's .4lb like an SKS clip.
>>
>>32109496
Fair enough, the AK and AR are more modern anyways. Well, the AK and SKS designs technically entered mass production at the same time but as far as designs go, with the detachable 30-rnd mag, the AK is definitely more 'modern' and stands the test of time better, not to mention the AKM is lighter. Russian AKM is what, 8.4lb loaded with a plastic or bakelite mag? That's basically the weight of an unloaded SKS, but the AKM has 30 rounds. Add a bayonet, though... or take off the SKS's... best to keep it to apples vs apples.

7.62x39 would absolutely kill a moose.

Jesus christ, caliber creep in hunting is obscene.

A well placed shot with a 5.56 nato would kill a moose. But given that fudds cant shoot for shit beyond 100 yds, they tend to have to repeatedly blast animals to put them down, hence the desire for more power.

Fuck, i had a buddy shoot a moose at 110 yards with a .30-'06 this fall. He shot it three times: once in the ass, the next in the gut, the last one in the fucking *rack*. My other buddy with him had to follow up with a .300 winmag. Hit him in the *neck*.

Meanwhile i took one with a single .308 through brush.

Power creep in hunting cartriges is real, and being driven by fudds who can't shoot. Their justification is "lol the animal still died, so whatever"

.30-30 are VERY similar in potency. With the same barrel lengths and bullet weights, you're looking at very similar velocities. 123gr from a 20" SKS-45 barrel will likely get you around 2400-2450 ft/s I wager, which isn't far off from what .30-30 will get with a similar weight bullet and a similarly long barrel. If .30-30 can do it, 7.62x39 can do it.

If you're unsure about the math, look it up. It depends on bullet weight. 55gr M193 5.56 is about 38 rounds per pound as I recall, while 62gr is likely more around 36. 77gr is probably down around 33 or something. Generally, 35-38 rounds per pound with .223/5.56.

7.62x39 DOES weigh more than .223/5.56, I promise you that, but the thing is, when you have 7.62x39 on CLIPS and .223/5.56 in MAGS, it makes a big difference. MAGS weigh more than CLIP. A 30-rnd STANAG mag of 5.56 weighs about 1.1lb, while 3 10-rnd SKS clips weigh about 1.2lb. Almost identical, but that STANAG mag has one follower, one baseplate, and one mag spring. 3 10-rnd mags have 3 followers, baseplates, and mag springs, as well as more overall mag BODY to compensate for this fact, so 3 10-rnd mags will weigh more than 1 30-rnd mag, so 3 SKS clips will likely weigh less than 3 10-rnd 5.56/.223 mags.

I highly doubt you Su-16 weighs just 6.2lb with optic and 3 10-rnd mags. Maybe if it's an Su-16D which would appear to have just a 10" barrel, quite carbine length and undoubtedly very light.

My guess is, a standard Su-16 with 3 10-rnd mags and a non-magnifying optic, if the unloaded Su-16 is 5lb unloaded, would weigh about 6.8lb at LEAST. What size this optic it is makes a difference. To be fair, even at just 6.8lb, that's a good 1lb or so lighter if you were to remove the bayonet/cleaning kit from an SKS. Still, STANAG mags weigh about as much as 3 SKS clips, so an Su-16 can have about as much ammo as a stripped down SKS-45, but with at least 1lb saved, which could go towards 1 more mag.
>>
>>32109735
well it's 2 mags but w/e
>>
>>32109617
You still fucked up, because .30-30 can and has been used to take down moose. Seriously, get a .30-30 and a 7.62x39, put them in rifles with the same barrel lengths, and make sure they're both using the same bullet weights. I wager 7.62x39 will be MAYBE 100 ft/s slower. About the difference if you do the same between .303 British and .308. Same barrel lengths, same bullet weight, MAYBE 100 ft/s slower for the .303. They're VERY comparable cartridges that are on VERY even ground. If one can do it, so can the other.

Anyways, though .223/5.56 could take down a moose if you had to and if you're good enough, possibly even with just one shot, I'd still trust 7.62x39 to have a better chance of doing so, so would prefer it.

Secondly, different people wear their pants at a different height. Some people wear their pants completely above their hips, some around their hips, and some slightly below. Even on the same person, pants that are made to fit these different places will measure differently with the same numbers on them. Vanity size is a real thing. There's only 1 close to where I live and it's always full of fudds that just take up a lane to tell you that you need a bigger gun to shoot deer (a 'good' size deer here may hit 100lbs), or just shoot a round, let the barrel cool, shoot a round, from their .22. Or it's full of black guys bragging that they just got a Glawk brand Glawk .40, when in reality they have a CZ75 in 9mm. Actually saw that one in person, no lie.
>MFW
>>
>>32112247
kek
I have 4 indoor ranges close to me. 3 of them suck dick because they have the 1 round every 3 seconds rule. The last one actually has really good staff and no dumb rules and you can shoot steel core, but their shop is lacking in variety.
>>
>>32105533
Speaking of multicam, I'm getting ready to finally buy a plate carrier today, hopefully one on sale.

I'm thinking of getting a Shellback Banshee since that seems to be the plate carrier everyone starts off with, and I'm torn between getting it in tan or multicam. I live in the midwest so I'm thinking the tan would be a better choice, but if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.
>>
>>32112325
I generally recommend solid color gear over camo gear. It makes it easier to switch your base camo without being a camo mixing whore.
>>
>>32112335
And, you know, paying that sweet $20 liscence fee for it.

Just get a tan one and get it dirty.
>>
>>32112335
I was kinda thinking that as well.

>>32112343
Everywhere I've looked so far the multicam has been the same price as the tan one. Maybe I'm just looking in shit places but everywhere I've looked they've been $210. I saw some on ebay for $135 but I don't trust they're not knockoffs.
>>
>>32112354
I got mine in Coyote Brown. Mainly because the belt I got was also brown. Now I just need armor plates, mag pouches for both of them and a few other items and I should be good.
>>
>>32112423
Brown is probably better than tan, I'll look for that I guess.

Also, I've been reading up on it more and I'm starting to think it won't hold side plates without buying extra side pouches for the cummerbund, is that true?
>>
>>32112445
Yes, the cummerbund is just Molle on inside and out. Personally I like it, but I'm going to be using it for storage spots, not side plates.
>>
Anyone ever use the HSGI UDHP Holster? Or is it even worth trying?
>>
>>32112467
Shieeet. I already have some III+ side plates since they were on sale for $30, might as well get a carrier that can hold them.

cleaned it up a lil. Moved yhr TW down to the side of my ifak and tightened the shoulder straps to adjust for the new weight of the antenna. Legit Thales whip antenna is in the mail, should help recieve better. Might re-route the antenna to the rear plate bag. Speaking of moving, I was thinkinn about bumping the ifak back to where the GP pouch is, putting the gp pouch on the left cumberbund where the radio is, and moving the radio over to where the ifak currently is. Thoughts?

I heard with the m4 optic the compartment sticks out so you need to adjust the magnifier back to compensate, just curious if this is the case with the pro as they appear to have similar compartments.

Doesn't look super comfy if you intend on carrying a lot of weight, but that's probably your best bet. Not sure where to recommend you get the pouches - LBT pouches seem perhaps a bit pricey for your situation.

More important to carry ammo than armor if you have to choose one.

They also make a low profile plate carrier that only weighs around 1.5lbs if you wanted to think about getting that later.
