The Hi-Power, Glock, 1911, Tokarev and Makarov would probably be among the most common automatic pistols in military service.

Then there's revolvers, there's a fucking lot of S&W Model 10s, being popular police and military revolver.

I can't imagine there's any collective solid records on that, given how the manufacture was done, but yes, there was an overwhelming niggerton of .32ACP Ruby pistols made

God knows how many were just left or lost out in battlefields along with dead soldiers.

That's a reasonable assertion, but it'd be impossible to approve. Everyone and their brother made a model of ruby in that period.

No. The 100 million number includes all firearms belonging to the AK platform. If we're talking platforms, the Mauser is by far the most common firearm in the world.

The most common handguns are the Browning Hi-Power and Glock 19

Its very hard to determine what actual model is most common, its better to sort the most common guns by action or operating mechanism.

In America, its .38 caliber revolvers hands down. For almost the entirety of the twentieth century .38 special was THE standard. Cops carried it, civilians carried, criminals used them; there are probably more .38 special revolvers of all varieties sitting, unused and abandoned, at the bottom of drawers than there are ALL forms of striker-fired pistols in America. Seriously, literally everyone and their mother owned one, and literally every gun manufacturer at the minimum had a line of .38 revolvers. The only thing that comes close to the .38 is probably M1911 designs.

For the rest of the world: Makarovs and copies of Makarovs. Seriously, the Soviet Union produced them by the millions and exported them to just about every third world shithole in the world. Like the AK, Maks were also illegally copied and mass produced by the tens of millions in factories from East Germany to North Korea, and even today something like 50+ countries use it as a standard military and police handgun.

>>
>>32039675
Only a little more than a million BHP's were produced by FN Herstal; I don't know how many BHP clones were made.

But at least 5 million Maks were produced in Russia alone, not counting the millions shit out by China or Vietnam or the rest of the Eastern Bloc, or the ones produced in illicit factories around the world.

The Mak is a single-stack fixed barrel blowback in a weak caliber with less than 30 parts. Its cheap and easy as fuck to mass produce with low-tech industrial equipment by second and third-worlders without fucking up, which is why its probably the most common gun in the world.

AK would be the original official designation for the first stamped rifles, then there'd be the semi-stamped rifles, and then the milled rifles, the AKM being the finalized stamped variant with a new stock angle and a muzzle-brake.
Calling it the "AK-47" is a later practice brought about from the need to more easily differentiate it from the AK-74 in the west (the Russians never really called it AK-47).
That said, I think AK is a good shorthand for all of them, them being Automatics of a Kalashnikov design.

Though the later AKM is no doubt more ubiquitous, the previous milled rifles and semi-stamped rifles got around quite a lot, the Chinese distributed their fair share of AKs, which were initially milled, it's not that unusual to find that a few of the rifles in a pile of AKs used by a guerilla force or third world militia.
They're pretty hard to wear out or break down too, thus they stick around, and a rifle is a rifle.

FN only claimed 1,000,000 HPs in 2011 as well, I doubt they'd round down an entire million so I think the 1911 has to be the winner overall, unless you include the entire Glock family (5mil sold as of 2007)

I know that copies exist but twice as many copies of the CZ-75 as official have to have been made to match exceptionally conservative estimates of the number of 1911s out there, and that doesn't even take into account the 1911's clones. 1911 variants/clones/copies are also incredibly popular and have 64 years of potential production time on the CZ.

Heck, if you can trust them, American Rifleman claimed that just Colt had manufactured 5 million 1911 pattern pistols.

It's no aspersion on the 75 that it doesn't beat the numbers for a design popular during the biggest arms buildups in history, and with 64 years of production time on it.

Of the roughly 500-600 mil guns in the world, around 300 mil are Mauser 98 variants. Fucking everyone made them, the Yugos, the Czechs, the Chinese/Taiwanese, the Spanish, etc.
By comparison there are around 100 mil AK variants out there.

As for the question, most likely the Ruby, the Spanish made m i l l i o n s of them and fucktons of variations lasted in production up until the 80s/90s like the Star pistols (yes, the Star Model A's and B's were successors to the Ruby, along with their own successors).
