>The designation of battle rifle is usually given to post-World War II select fire infantry rifles such as the FN FAL, the M14, BM59 and the H&K G3.[1] This term also describes older military full-powered semi-automatic rifles such as the M1 Garand, the MAS-49 and the FN-49.[2][3]

I am thinking about getting the 22" M1A Standard rifle.
One thing keeping me back is some of the nightmare stories I read about mounting a scope because they have to be bolted on from the side and sit above the action where the shell can sometimes hit the scopes.
Anyone have experience in this?

TL:DR
M1A scope issues. from standard mounted scopes to scout scopes.

Because .30-06 nowadays is like a .50bmg in battle.

Hell we don't even need .308 or 9mm our troops should be armed with 5.7x28mm pistols and use 5.56x45mm.

There's not even a use for those big clunky calibers besides to weigh people down or pretend you are a "sniper". 5.56 is practical and just as deadly as .308
>>
>>32040253
okay, but a battle rifle is a semi-auto or select fire rifle that fires a full size cartridge.

M1 Garand does precisely that, just as good as an M1A. 7.62x51mm is just .30-06 with a slightly shorter case.

M1A doesn't have select fire either, not a single rifle people post in this thread has select fire as post-'86 machine gats are unlegal.

The box mag is slow and clunky to reload. Even the Army admitted that the M-14 was a step backwards from the M1 in every conceivable way.

It was issued as select fire, at first.
And the term Battle Rifle refers to rifles of the post WW2 era, pre-assault rifle.

Like way to damn hard.
Dial it back and just cope. No a <insert your battle rifle here> is not a battle rifle. But if you can clean the sand out of your vagina you can post about it here, and as long as it's a semi auto full power cartridge, your only going to get mildly trolled.

Turning every thread into a giant shit show just because your rifle isn't quite in the definition of what a battle rifle is all your doing.

Its fairly straightforward.

The Glock shooting sports foundation lets you buy one pistol a year for cheap, which you could sell off, keep, or hook a friend up. And membership there works with the CMP.

Its SVT 40
It doesnt really matter when it was used, it matters when it was developed and issued. Its not select fired.

Is it a battle rifle? In as much as an FNAR is.

As the l1a1 is an FAL derivative, and the FAL was, it counts.

>Why you fags get all up in arms over what goes in the battle rifle term and that yours doesnt is really weird. Its just a term
He says as he does this exact thing.
>>
>>32049833
Not so much.
What is a battle rifle is a fairly narrow definition, not dozens of rifles meet all the criteria. If its close enough, post it here. Who cares.

People post FNARs and kamron posts that funky BAR, neither really count as a battle rifle, its still relevant, they dont get in a twist.

Its the the muh wood and steel grandpas rifle crowd that erupts when the term doesnt apply to them. Not sure why its that set that get moody, thats weird to me.

So no, its not the exact same thing.

So is the handle supposed to beat up the cocking tube on a ptr91 or not? I'm slowly watching this dent form forward of the little retaining nub where the handle smacks into when charging.
>>
>>32061501

On mine, the finish is scuffed up but it's not that bad. Yours looks superficial though and I probably wouldn't worry about it. Do you have one of the charging handles with the rubber on it or just plain metal?

>>32061518
Considering you aren't supposed to ride the bolt home, it's not going to make a difference if you slap or not.
>>
>>32061802
She's a stick, what do you expect
>>
>>32061873

What you can't see in the picture is that it's actually forming a dent in that area. The paint was gone a few cycles in and now it's impacting the tube. I can see it if I look closely and feel it if I run a finger over. The handle is the all metal variety that came on the rifle. I'll toss a rubberized handle in with an order and see if that stops the wear and beats up the handle instead. I'd rather replace that than have to send the rifle off to get a new cocking tube installed.

Also there's no reason to mount an Aimpoint that high; using the lowest mount on the rail you can get a 1/3 co-witness.

I don't so much mind the lack of cheek weld compared to how I'll feel after 2-300 rounds, but I figured it was out the window anyway. Cost on both the stock and specific handguard in that video is absurd for what they are, but I want it.

I've found low mounts for everything I've thought about using because yeah, there's zero reason to have it sitting up that high.

They are overpriced but good. Not necessarily better enough to warrant the extra dosh, but if being efficient on money isn't as big a priority as having good shit/buying once crying once then you will be happy with an ACOG.

Considering it is going on a SCAR I would assume you are good with overpaying a bit for quality stuff.

Portugese manlets used the shit out of it - they attached their slings to the charging handle because they were so small - they used their slings as leverage to charge their G-3's - one popular method of readying a G-3 was to literally step on their sling - using it as leverage to rack their G3.

TLDR they only killed hundreds of thousands of negro's with their G3's

The PTR is the battle rifle deal of the century right now - the quality you get is insane - Top rail, metal lower, and most importantly paddle mag release.

That said a Garand - service grade or higher - is worth it's weight in gold.

Buy both - PTR now Garand ASAP after that

Just secured a SCAR 17S for $3,400. First time I've found a brand new one in over five years. Should be here in a few days.

First things first, gotta replace the ugg boot stock with literally anything else. Suggestions?

I want one of these but I can't stand the stock look - any aftermarket stock options that actually look ergonomic and appealing?
>>
>>32074715
Recoil is harsh, almost bolt gun tier, but don't listen to this guy >>32074777 you can get a cheek weld just fine - good luck not getting jaw pain though.

My recommendation if you get one is to send it off to Bill Springfield for a recoil buffer install (30-40% reduction in recoil, lessening of recoil impulse) and to add 2 positions because full in or full out sucks when body armor is in play.
His prices are reasonable too
>>
>>32075465
Realistically the 6x is the only option (for you with your Scar 17) worth looking at but it's geared towards LMG/DMR use - you are fine with a variable - if anything you want to push the SCAR out to longer distances and not limit it.
ACOG's have their place on 5.56mm guns

>weak ejection for a G3 Clone
Other than that what I've been hearing has been stellar compared to Century's previous offerings - but it falls short to PTR or actual H&K

But honestly the PTR-91 GI is too good of a deal to pass up in lieu of this - Paddle mag, better QC and build quality, metal lower, HK sights.
At $900 dollars and change the PTR GI is the deal of the century, let the unitiated buy the merely okay C308 as their first foray into the battle rifle world, you have a chance to own one of the best deals on the planet

Boot is best.
If you really need to change it, get an M4 adapter and put whatever on it. Most people dont like the ACR stock on the SCAR

>>32079106
They did, but there are better options out.

What is the point of a para FAL with a 21" barrel? Everything about that rifle is ass except the sling.

I actually don't remember why.
I had my buddy photograph (my phone was kill) all my guns after we cleaned them post-range trip. I'm gonna take a better picture when the weather is nice, I promise.

Is DSA the end all for FAL's? Any other good brands for FAL's?

DSA is mid tier but they're the only factory built FALs widely available in the US. Their warranty is good though.

Don't sweat it m8. it's quite easy to grab the charging handle even while you are aiming the rifle. Don't worry about it.
