A drum? In 5.45? Is such a thing possible?

I know a few years back a guy was selling them on ARFCOM. He made them himself. He was cutting off the tops of Polish and Romanian steel mags and heliarc welding them to the tops of old Chinese steel drums. They were NOT cheap.
>>
>>31886654
Not sure about the one in that pic but there is for sure a polymer 95 round 5.45 drum currently being manufactured. It's in some videos and trade show pics and shit.
>>
Are there civilian-legal GP25s? I know you can get a civilian version of an M203 and chuck golf balls around or whatever.

>>
>>31886684
All destructive devices.
A bunch of improperly dewatted ones were imported for airsfot use. Fairly simple to reactivate apparently and the ATF has been trying to find them all for years.
>>
>>31886684
Might be possible for a manufacturer to get some demilled ones, rebuild them, and have a permanent insert that reduces the diameter like the m203 ones.
>>
>>31886684
Evidently there are but there's not really supposed to be

As far as I know the only GP grenade launchers ever imported that don't belong to the government for foreign weapon familiarization or whatever are a small batch of deacts that I believe were sold by rusmilitary. The ATF decided they weren't satisfied with the extent to which they had been demilled and declared them all destructive devices and that the owners turn them in. Not everyone did, of course. I know Boof has a destructive device GP-25 that is from one of those deacts that he had reactivated. Which is kind of funny because it proves the ATF right.

>>31886684

You could import a demilled one and reactivate it, but that would be a shot in the dark with a lot of educated guesses, because it's not like any dimensioned drawings of those things are floating around.

Also, and I guess this is being pedantic, but civilians CAN own a GP25 in America. SOT's are civilians, after all, and if they could get a hold of one through some middle man in Elbownia they could import it. The NFA item import ban in the '68 GCA only applied to the general public. SOT's can still bring in all the fun stuff.
>>
>>31886770
Not really the case anymore.
NFA items can be importer for shit like scientific testing, "sales samples", and government contracts.

As of the last year-ish ATF has really cracked down on the research and sales samples imports, to the point where you basically need a pending government contract to have any chance of getting them in. Encountered this problem with some NSVs I was doing for someone else.

The way to get it done now is either to import into an FTZ and do whatever you need there or to get permission for a temporary import from State Department.

Holy cow, the whole process started October 23, the mag bodies were in a post office in Russia on the 27th, and now they're already in my town in WA. That's less than two weeks to get from Russia to here. That's insane, I've never had anything from Europe get to me this quickly, let alone magazine parts from Russia which usually anything from Russia takes quite a bit longer for me.

Fitting is sometimes required.

I prefer to use a steel washer the right internal diameter, use a needle file to cut a notch for the latch pin, and file the washer down very slowly, by small increments, until the muzzle device plus the flash hider fit hand-tight when the latch pin engages.

Or you could file down the rear of the brake, but it's tricky to put metal back on if you take off too much.

Let the SKS be an SKS. The slim lines, light weight and traditional rifle stock make the SKS a good scout carbine or deer/hog rifle (bayonet is good for those hogs that don't know when to give up)

Trying to turn the SKS into an AK isn't making the SKS any better, you're just making an AK but worse.

I asked about Lee Armory a few threads back, and today a Lee Armory WBP Polish Premium came into the gun shop I work at. I didn't check every rivet but they look fine, but holy shit everything else sucks. Furniture rattles like hell and the grip doesn't even match. The action is mediocre and stagey, unlike an Arsenal which is really smooth all the way. Trigger is typical Tapco. I don't see why it doesn't get more bad or meh reviews considering the price point.

assuming there were no defects, that's not a very good deal for $700. they have used green mountain barrels in the past, and the current ones are from an unknown manufacturer (wouldn't say who it was) associated with atlantic. having a bayonet lug is a nice feature. for around the same price you could have a CHF military barrel in a WASR

i live in the subtropics, so park is not enough; may not matter to you.

Eh, the only thing lacking is a bayonet lug. And it uses AKM muzzle threads, not AK74

I kinda wanna sell my waffen werks and upgrade to one of these. I have a Vepr 12 with the folding stock and it's amazing. I'm convinced Vepr is the best AK in the world

That.

I am old enough to remember the Cold War and all the speculation about Soviet small arms. One of the things that surprised me was that the Soviets apparently never issued drum-type magazines for the RPK in 5.45mm, only in 7.62x39. I guess the Soviets decided that the drums were too expensive to manufacture and not cost-effective.

So when I see OP's picture, I wonder where that drum came from.

As long as the triangle stock has a 4.5mm pin you're golden

As an aside, what's a good price for steel 5.45 mags?

if you can find a draco for $500 or less, go for it. they're of cugir manufacture, same factory making WASR rifles, would go draco over PAP for barrel and furniture compatibility personally. the arsenal pistols are too expensive
>>31899171
>you can 3d print the body
this needs to be laid to rest. additive manufacturing isn't the solution to all problems, and in general it is best relegated to rapid prototyping
>>
>>31898800
>Are AK pistols worth owning?
Not unless you plan to SBR it. Otherwise, it's too big, too heavy, and too awkward to conceal, or even carry in a conventional holster, and rather difficult to shoot well in a hurry. People buy them but I haven't the faintest idea what for, if they aren't turning them into SBRs.
>>
>>31898800
>>31899484
Pretty much. Either you SBR it, or it's just a novelty toy for those with an advanced collection and extra cash in their pocket for something frivolous.
If you wan the "pistol" feel, just take a folding stock gun and see how much fun it is to try hit things. It's a pain in the arse to hit things with and feels like a waste of ammo to me when I'm not on target proper, all to have a ~4" shorter gun instead of a full length folder.
>>
>>31899484
cause it's fun as fuck to shoot at shit with an AK pistol. But yes pretty much a novelty gun.

This isn't quite accurate.
There were 3nd gen mags made without steel reinforcements in the feed lips.
Also the "long tops" were 1st and 2nd gen.
>And in theory with the recent surfacing of the glass filled version, they were technically 2nd/3rd gen although those are likely considered prototypes, so don't factor in the "generation" figure.

I had never even seen anybody make mention of the number of slots before until I made a sarcastic comment expressing my amazement at an anon's 3-slot handguard, the idea being that I made it seem like 3-slot handguards are the more rare variant to boost the perceived value of my own handguard.

I kept it going by disparaging the 2-slot handguards as trash and people took it farther than I expected. Ironically the 3-slot handguard actually seems much more common than the 2-slot handguards.

get an internship/job over the summer. if you intern you can often get credit towards your major, which is a nice bonus. it's also literally the best thing you can put on your resume other than a diploma, as a student

interning during the school year is a bad idea IMO. that's a lot to shuffle, and you're still probably taking minimum credits for full-time unless you're insane. are you taking any easy classes to pad your schedule?

do you cook?

>>31901094
Well, I should note, being a pharmacy intern pretty much makes me just a glorified technician, but I can council patients on medications and give immunization injections. My managers have been understanding about what I can realistically provide.

And no, currently not taking any easy classes, and I'm just 1 credit hour of maxing out what the school allows. And yes I do cook.
