Humans have a disposition for ingenuity and have no lack of creativity when it comes to harming and killing others. These two traits combine well to make a species particularly talented at conflict. It's partly why I expect humans will be just fine if we ever make contact with an alien civilization.
>>
>>31880971
Not being in one.
>>
>>31881732
I don't like Halo from a gameplay and filthy console peasant standpoint.

And Mass Effect started strong.

But those two games are exactly what I expect humanity to be like when we make contact. We as a race. Despite what the media and libruls make it sound. Are warlike. We revel in it, it's prehistoric. We will be absolutely brutal and show great cunning if we fight another species. We will find their weakness and exploit the fuck out of it.

Humans are terrifying and fascinating.
>>
>>31880971
I think we as humans are intrigued by misery and death. As the other anon in this thread mentioned, we excel at developing weapons and technology to better help us kill people. Fuck, we wouldn't even be close to as technologically advanced as we are now if it wasn't for war.

I disagree with the other guy saying "Not being in one", because I joined the military fully expecting to be shit on and miserable, and that's what I got. Yet not one of my former pals would tell you that they don't often dream and think about going back.
>>
>>31880971
Personally, I find weapons design and inventing tactics to be like a form of engineering. Seeing the brilliant tools and ideas people can come up with is very interesting, even if these things are used to kill.
>>
>>31881776
I greatly hope for there to be legitimate and intelligent forms of biodiversity in the universe, species not of the carbon/oxygen/water variety. From a biological standpoint we'd pretty impressive. The fauna of our world gives of combustive gasses that we breathe We process that same fauna for energy and then shit out concentrated nitrates and phosphorous.

Hell, we literally have a built in combat drug system which heightens our senses and combat aptitude when frightened or surprised.

Throw on top of that we're not completely mindless and capable of developing tools which compliments our biology and aptitude, and you have yourself a walking, talking genocide machine.
>>
>>31881732

Not necessarily. We could meet an alien species that's custom-designed to defeat us categorically in combat.
>>
>>31881732
>It's partly why I expect humans will be just fine if we ever make contact with an alien civilization.

If we are the one to make contact, yes, but if they are the one that find us first (=they have decent space travel tech), they can btfo us in seconds.
>>
>>31882023
That's why I say partly.

The other part is our ability to adapt to different foes and environments. We're not particularly physically imposing, besides maybe our endurance levels, but we're hardly programmed into a locked role like combat, we're simply good at adapting and using our strengths.

A species created for the sole purpose of exploiting our weaknesses is inherently vulnerable to our adaption.
>>
>>31882047
It could be babby's first alien invasion, where they fuck up and let humanity explore their tech, like in XCOM or Xenonauts.
>>
>>31882047
Again, there are far too many variables to have a reasonable expectation of having an advantage over a practical space faring species, but given the chance we might be at a similar level in that regard eventually, it's hardly an impossibility.

if you ignore all the horrible shit then you can claim it.

>forces huge advances in technology and science
>showcases behaviors not otherwise seen in men
>changes the political landscape forever, at times for the best
>creates huge economical stimulus in the winning countries
>gives the opportunity to rebuild infrastructure in destroyed countries (see germany, japan)

to the point where one might wonder if we'd be better off it war didn't happen at all.
>>
>>31882065

That depends on if the aliens are inflexible themselves.

I know we tend to stereotype alien foes as being like hive bugs, but there's no reason to think they can't be even more individualistic than we are.

we'd be stupid overpopulated if it wasn't for war. Plus war drove the push for understanding of nuclear power, and nuclear power has helped the planet more than any other source when it comes to pollution.

War is filled with both the most horrible examples of human actions as well as examples of great selflessness. It's weird that blowing people up also causes people to give their lives for others.

I find that really interesting, the good/evil that is brough out by war.

HFY is retarded.

We have literally no reason to believe aliens would be any less "warlike", intelligent, adaptive, or be any worse off than us in our physiology. Hell, our planets conditions aren't even particularly unique.

War has never significantly decreased world populations. Lack of available food and disease is almost the entirety of what kept populations levels down.

>>31884446

Suppose two men at cards with nothing to wager save their lives. Who has not heard such a tale? A turn of the card. The whole universe for such a player has labored clanking to this moment which will tell if he is to die at that man's hand or that man at his. What more certain validation of a man's worth could there be? This enhancement of the game to its ultimate state admits no argument concerning the notion of fate. The selection of one man over another is a preference absolute and irrevocable and it is a dull man indeed who could reckon so profound a decision without agency or significance either one. In such games as have for their stake the annihilation of the defeated the decisions are quite clear. This man holdgin this particular arrangement of cards in his hand is thereby removed from existence. This is the nature of war, whose stake is at once the game andthe authority and the justification. Seen so, war is the truest form of divination. It is the testing of one's will and the will of another within that larger will which because it binds them is therefore forced to select. War is the ultimate game because war is at least a forcing of the unity of existence. War is god.
