Heh. It's funny to think that papa Kalashnikov was a Grand fanboy

>Another flat surface on the bolt lug rests against this shelf during cycling, preventing the bolt from trying to make a turning move, and reducing friction during operation. Just before locking, a bump in the receiver knocks the bolt out of alignment with this shelf, allowing it to complete its rotation.

>Interestingly, while the post-war M14 rifle disposed of the anti pre-engagment mechanism in favor of a roller, the Russian Kalashnikov rifle – also derived from the Garand – has retained it through the latest AK-100 series variants. No doubt that rifle’s tremendous reputation for reliability owes something to this feature.

Good stuff, I don't think I've ever really fully understood the purpose of the "bump rivet" or the ramp on the bullet guide until now.
>>
>>31843211
If you modify the furniture and/or get the right retainers yes. Most ak furniture will be too big since the receiver is thicker on the vepr so you have to shave it down.

Picked up 19 steel combloc mags and 200 hollow points today, and got the springs and followers for my Russian bakes. Hopefully the bodies come in the next package. Anyone else have foreign shippers send the internals separately from the bodies?
>>
>>31844353
Rmr08. I got it as a gift and threw it on my ak just to see how I like it. The dual illumination does have some problems when you go in and out of bright to dark place. I'll probably save it until I get a mos glock or something.

Furniture is cheap. Just get a good WASR and change out the horrific furniture.

My favorite furniture right now is from Hogue. It's lightweight and feels good. I tried steel hand guards recently and it's just too heavy to be practical for me and it can decrease accuracy. The only other must have upgrade is replacing the shepards pin with a retainer plate.

Yep, Pavel kvardin says so.
>>
>>31848229
Prediction: Pavel copied and pasted my sale ad for 103 magazines (like so many other people have done) which cites the ribbed 103 mags as the latest and greatest, which they aren't.

Show me where he claims this, I bet he copied my words. Again

And in any case, if he actually believes that, he's wrong too.

I'm the guy with the WASR10 in some of the earlier pictures. Yeah the SM-13 is a solid Picatinny Mount. I bought mine through a dealer for about $130 since S&H was going to equal that same price from K-Var.

It's an awesome mount for variety of different optics and I like it because it brings the weight of the rifle to rear instead of the front. Can't knock the RS regulate since its simplistic and low-profile in design but each optic piece requires a new bracket which is a whole other pricing nightmare in comparison.

The early import Wasrs are actually made from the best parts but are known for being quite unpolished, rough around the edges, lacking in any elegance
>>
>>31849470
>unpolished
That's a subtle way to mention the 45-degree FSBs.
>>
>>31849514
I think you mean gas blocks, which are normal.
>>
>>31849514
do you mean gas blocks?

when I say unpolished I'm really talking about excessive mag wobble due to the magwells being opened with shitty tools. Canted sights. Terrible receiver markings. There's really not much wrong with the parkerized finish but it turns a lot of people off because it seems so rough and shitty. Rough action. etc

but they were made from most all surplus romy parts back then, including the barrels, which is just great.
Im sorry if the post doesn't make sense i tried proof reaading it
I mean face it, if you take an uneducated person and present them with a Wasr of any generation and a C39, they'd pick the C39 any day. It just seems like a better made gun when you mess with it.

I'd get an npap. Honestly, probably the only ak you can find for less than $650 nowadays that isn't a piece of shit since WASRs have gone to $850.
>>
>>31851775
^Agreed, 7.62x39 is much more affordable and available. Plus it gives the 100% authentic AK experience.
I really enjoy 5.45 but I sold my 74 and all my 7N6 ammo when the import ban went into place and I could double all of the money I'd spent on it.
I went and bought more 7.62x39 AK's and lots of ammo.

Though I'm still tempted occasionally by an SLR-106 simply because I love the 74 aesthetic and have tons of 5.56 for AR's.

12.5" AKbuilder barrels are set up for use with the AMD65 gas piston length, and would require you to use an AMD gas tube and piston.

If you answered the same tired questions over and over you would become rather salty too. I'm not defending him, but how many simple questions have you seen asked that could have been resolved with a two second Google search? It triggers my autisms seeing people ask why they have a safety scratch, what they need to do to change furniture, how to clean the things, etc. Everyone wants to be bottlefed info.

Impulse bought a 104FR and want a 106FR. I immediately regretted buying a dying caliber but my order shipped like 30 minutes after being placed.

caliber isn't dead, not by a long shot

Only options are wolf and silver bear. Everyone using it is switching to 5.56, and the guns are very uncommon in the US, so there's not a big market for it if imports do die. Hornady likes to discontinue their obscure ammo so I don't trust that either.

I've watched 54R practically die. Hornady discontinued their match loads which were about the only ammo my Tigr likes, and ppu match hasn't been imported all year. We pretty much have wolf and a few other garbage cheap brands in heavy bullets that don't do well with the light twist rate I have.

I want ammo I'm guaranteed to be able to get in 10-20 years, and a greater variety of it at that.

7n6 is still 25 cpr shipped. The wolf sealed and lacquered is also good.

Honestly I really do like 5.45 which is why it was my first choice. I had a tantal years ago. I just think a 106 would be a much better option. I can actually buy the ammo in my local gunshops as well. I'm planning to take it out for groundhogs and coyotes instead of just paper punching.
>>
>>31852992
5.45 is way better for that
>>
>>31853015
Will it be around in a few decades easily available though?
>>
>>31853015
Not particularly. 5.56 gives you a lot more options than 5.45. I like 5.45 but it's kinda of ridiculous to discount the sheer variety of 5.56 loads you can get.

Damn right. Trump is gonna win.
>>
>>31852918
So convert your 5.45 guns to 5.56. not that complicated.
>>
>>31852992
You only need cheap ammo for groundhogs and yotes. 5.45 wolf works great.

I never expected this overwhelming response against a 5.56 ak when a few threads ago the general was full of em.

It's not really an overwhelming response against it. It's more anons taking the bait about 5.45 being a dying caliber.

It's not growing, and certainly not as widely available as 5.56, but it's not dying either and there's plenty of demand to keep the round for a long time.

And it's only a matter of time before a manufacturer starts brass 5.45 production. Hell, there's even HK 4.6x30 being manufactured and sold at .46/rd.

Buy whatever caliber aks you want. /k/ is full of retards that love to grasp at straw arguments against anything that doesn't fit their narrow view of what's ok.
My 556 ak is as dead reliable as anything else, and I'm not worried about any common caliber(no matter the side of the pond it comes from) disappearing. Demand for each caliber mandates that someone will pick up production if another source disappears.
