You can have good stainless barrels. But as those are Anderson and Armalite receivers, it's probably full budget
>>
I just moved to colorado and want a new rifle now that my old one shit itself. Are the 7.62x54r veprs still a good buy or should i hold off and get something else? And about the 15rd mag size thing, is it just something i have to accept?
>>
>>31764187
Stainless barrels are a gimmick for mall ninjas
>>
>>31764656
Nah, buy your mags in our neighbor states, or order them online, send them to a friend out of state, then have them send them to you. Rebuild kits are also a thing but only for more common magazine types.
>>
>>31764682
How are they a gimmick?
What are they supposed to be that is over hyped?
More accurate than chrome lined with a lower barrel life? Cheap as fuck? What's the hype?

FALs *can* do submit, but that's luck. Moa is a realistic goal if you get a barrel made, use top notch parts, and understand how an FAL is accurized. 1.5 should be considered an acceptable threshold.

The Irish use it as a DMR still
>>
>>31764684
They aren't really known for their accuracy, they have pretty limited usage as marksmans rifles, but I think you'll find its performance adequate.
>>
>>31764763
If your using irons, check your upper/low slop. I'd it's loose, you can get an oversized lug, tighten that shit up.
>>
>>31764709
Is it something that gets actively enforced or is it more something that isnt going to get attention as long as i dont do dumb shit?
>>
>>31764805
Not enforced. You would be more likely to get funny looks for using compliant mags than for using standard or high cap ones.
>>
>>31764818
Easiest way, use a super fine mechanical pencil, put witness marks across the upper/lower mating. Open and close a few times, check for play in the marks each time. It's not that common, but can be a hard thing to diagnose otherwise

Where can I order a 21" DSA FAL that isn't a voyager, other than on DSA's website?
Every other site has them listed for $1500-$1600 (DSA is priced at $1700), but they've also all been sold out for a year or more.

Never owned one or even another m14, but from based on what I read over the past few months while researching battle rifles and trying to decide which one to get:
damn good but, unless you really really want a nice m14 clone and money is not at all an issue, not $2,150 good.
If you meet that exception of not giving a fuck about the money and want a m14 go for it. If you want a m14 and $750 left over to spend on ammo and mags just get a Springfield.
>>
>>31767113

I shouldn't pay 200% more for a rifle that is 5% better than what's on the market. I also doubt a high-spec expensive ass ar10 used by ranger seal recon operators for 5000 dollars can handle being innawoods its whole life. Let me rephrase than.

What is a rifle that is durable?

I'm happy with the accuracy from the two Armalites. The Anderson is full on budget. I've not been able to stretch the range on the 20"--I've been out to 200 yards pretty often and pretty easily but the roll of the land prevented further.

Not sure what bait/meme these boyz are talking about.
The Belgians wouldn't sell the germans any more FALs, so they had CETME, a spanish company replicate the design.
That was the original CETME, then since spaniards are lazy good for nothings, the germans had HK make the G3, which is the CETME, which is the FAL. Then PTR made the 91 which is the G3, then Century made their own CETME which earned a bad rep, then they made a decent version, by asking PTR to manufacture their Century design (that's the C308)
All the while, the FAL was winning and losing wars all over the world. That is the rifle I want more than anything in this life.

German engineers working for the Iberians designed it.

>>31770287
No need to get autistic, sperg. The shape of the receiver doesn't matter to the end-user if they're buying a Mega receiver set combo (as you should always buy an upper and lower from the same company and line for a 308), since the lower parts will all be standard AR-15 anyway, with the receiver extension mostly the same as well. What really matters is the barrel and bolt, which Maten uses the DPMS/SR-25. You carping on about KAC is useless quibbling since buying DPMS high parts will give the builder the most possible options while maintaining compatibility.

Also
>When using an Armalite or Knight carrier a narrower then mil-spec hammer is required. Check with carrier manufacturer

Now fuck off.

> As the bolt head is driven rearward, rollers on the sides of the bolt are driven inward against a tapered bolt carrier extension. This forces the bolt carrier rearward at a much greater velocity and delays movement of the bolt head. The primary advantage of roller-delayed blowback is the simplicity of the design compared to gas or recoil operation

I'm new to ARs and gun ownership in general, but I've been doing some research and wanted to see /brg/'s thoughts on this gun. Keep in mind I'm looking for competitive sharpshooting and accuracy here.

This is an Anderson Manufacturing AM15-3G-Elite. What was highly interesting about Anderson's rifles is that some of them, including this particular model, claim to require no lubrication down the barrel due to the metal being impregnated with calcium (RF-85 treatment). Because of the use of no oil, I don't see this thing gumming up at all, probably requires very little soap/water cleaning.

To further minimize contamination in the chamber/action/bolt carrier assembly, I was thinking about installing an Adam's Arms gas piston conversion kit. I'm also unsure of how well the gas piston system works, but it makes sense to me to remove as much contamination from the critical parts of the gun as possible.

I need your advice:
1) Am I retarded?
2) Suggestions for what kinds of equipment I should be looking for on a rifle
3) DI or Gas Piston? Apparently this is a controversial subject.

Welp, I'm a tad bit fucked I guess. Called a few pawn shops/gun stores that can order from them, all of them said their wholesaler was out of stock. So then I called DSA themselves, sat on hold for 20 minutes, and then learned that "All our rifles have an 8 week lead time at the moment".

Battle rifles shoot a full size rifle cartridge like 7.62 NATO. AR15s shoot an intermediate cartridge, which is about half-way between a full size rifle cartridge and a pistol cartridge.
>>
>>31789522

308 or bigger.
Magazine-fed.
People will nitpick from there, but that's about it.
>>31789466
Move your vfg as far forward as you can get it and take the bipod off until you're able to get a free floating rail.
>>
>>31789539
Glad to help. Just as a heads up, a full-sized cartridge alone doesn't make any rifle a battle rifle. It's generally accepted that to be a battle rifle, a rifle must feed from a detachable box magazine, be semi-auto or select fire, and be general issue to soldiers. It's not an official term though, so it's endlessly debatable.

Scar is pretty much the top shelf as far as battle rifles right now, and I say that as an owner of a Sig716. Don't get me wrong, the Gen2 Sig716s fixed a lot of issues the gen1s had, but the SCAR will be superior. It'll mainly boil down to if you want to wait for one to show up in stock and pay the $3900 sticker price versus a roughly $2kish Sig716.

Has the 17 ever actually been standard issue for a military? Does it actually count as a battle rifle?
>>
>>31791013
It's been used by SOF before but no military fields it as an infantry rifle. It's not really a battle rifle. It's more of a modern sporting rifle

>no military fields it as an infantry rifle.
Because it's expensive and not the best option for general infantry use on the modern battlefield. There is literally one actual military that has adopted a 7.62x51mm rifle infantry rifle in the 21st Century.
>>
>>31791035
>>31791125
>>31791165
So it's not actually a battle rifle then?
>>
>>31791125
Exactly, the term battle rifle isn't even in the name
>>
>>31791220
>>31791247
Its a rifle used in battle, that shoots big boolets very fast
>>
>>31791345
That's a retarded definition.
>>
>>31791360
But thats the definition of a battle rifle lol
>>
>>31791247

Because assault rifle is the technical term for what it actually is. IE: a rapid fire, box magazine fed rifle designed for military use.

"Battle Rifle" is term made up by gun magazine writers in the 90's to more specifically identify assault rifles chambered in full power cartridges.

The label has little to zero use in actual US military nomenclature.
>>
>>31791365
>>31791386
But for the purposes of this thread, battle rifle is usually defined as:

Full power cartridge
Detachable magazine
Select fire
Was general issue for a military
>>
>>31791430

Sure. But then you have idiots in this thread suggesting "hurrr it isn't a battle rifle because the military doesn't call it that"
>>
>>31791430
>Select fire

>>31791456

>>
>>31791013
Pretty much only SO forces use the 17, though there are some militaries that that do use the 16 as their primary rifle, Belgium recently but in a massive order for 16s and 17s which is contributing to F&N's backlog of fulfilling civvie orders.
>>
>>31791444
The military doesn't call anything a battle rifle. Like another anon said, it's a made-up designation from the last 20 years that's used to describe a class of rifle that's been around for the last 60 years.
>>31791456
Select fire capability was restricted in many G3s and pretty much all M14s. The capability to have select fire is the import part, not necessarily having it.
>>
>>31791494
99.9% of the civilian-owned FALs, G3s, and M14s in the USA are incapable of automatic fire.
>>
>>31791494
>forgetting the L1A1
>>
>>31791524
Yup, but that doesn't make them not functionally a battle rifle, as I just described.
