Kek Tec RFB and FNARs arent Battle Rifles Edition

>>
>>31724678
People call them battle rifles tho
>>
>>31724688

The FNAR is a militarized hunting rifle that FN acquired when they bought Winchester and tried (and failed) to market it to law enforcement

The RFB is a toy that is bought by gun hipsters who want attention at the range
>>

I bought an RFB, but I shoot on my own property.

Is $600 an ok price for a CETME Sport? My lgs has one and probably might give it another look tomorrow.

Anyone have any experience with the FNAR? I wonder if it wouldn't be half bad with different furniture. Would likely have to be custom though. As is look ugly as moldy giraffe balls.

I bought a RFB to take to the range for attention, but it doesn't actually work and draws the wrong type of attention.

The G1 kits are going to be rougher. The Imbel kits are the better deal, especially with the essentially new barrels. Put a gear logo imbel upper on it for some not only correct parts, but also a quality build. You could also go cheap and get another type 3 upper as well.

>>31728613
Type 3 upper on type 1 lower looks tacky, especially with the CAI markings. That said that refinish is sweet, its been a safe queen, and it shows. He had a legit smith go over it, so the usual CAI fuckery you can be confident was taken care of. You got some ammo and an adequate amount of mags with it.

Sorry for the shit pic boys, but I got some questions.
Got this today and took it shooting, but it's shooting a good 2" to the left and 1" low at 100 feet, and i have the rear sight pushed as far left as it will go.
Obviously at 100 feet it isn't going to be quite as high as it should because ballistics, but did i get a fucked up rifle?

Is your handguard or cocking tube putting any pressure on the barrel? You should be able to hold the guard/cocking tube and push the barrel left, right, up and down a millimeter or two.
>>
>>31747720
fuuuuuck. My cheekweld was kind of goofy because I have glasses and fat-ass ear-protection and I was using the 2 setting on the drum because the CQB notch was fucking with me. I didnt have a bench or anything so maybe the aim isn't as fucked as i think, but still mang.

>>
>>31747834

All the main parts of the C308 are main by PTR, go are getting a PTR with no QC and no warranty
>>
>>31747849
it was an indoor range so i couldn't really get it out too far, but i'm not that shit of a shot. not that good either. before i shifted the sight over, i was aiming at the center and it was hitting like a foot and a half off to the left. i'm not a very good shot either, so there's that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Were you trying to zero a rifle firing offhand? Did you try to stabilize the rifle at all?
>>
>>31747849

You did admit to cranking your rearsight out to infinity so yes, it could be you. Aside from the fact that you are trying to get a good zero at 100 yards with irons from an unsecured position, we have no idea what type of ammo you are using or what kind of shooter you are (any claims of greatness will be dismissed as lies). Until you do things like shoot with an optic attached where you can get a better zero independent of the iron sights using quality ammo I am going to assume operator error/ignorance
>>
>>31747858
So the cheapest PTR is only 1k from them, so that's not really worth the savings is it?
>>
>>31748003

Yeah, the biggest issue with century is the complete lack of QC or real adherence to specs. Many of thier rifles are amalgamations of old cetme and g3 parts that are grinded down to fit together. With Century you can never forget that you are getting what you pay for

i wasnt trying to zero it, just took it shooting for the first time and was dicking around. I had the mag resting on the shelf/table they had, and was using my left hand as ya do to stabilize.
The reason I pushed the rear sight over is explained in pic related.

Mainly that Maten parts are hard as hell to find even without the pre-election crisis. I've seen folks trying to buy matched sets and having a hell of a time trying to find any of them in stock or not backordered several months.

As for me, I'm looking forward to taking my sig716 back to the range. Got my buffer swapped out with a JP Silent Captured spring with the heavy tungsten weights. That appears to be the solution folks are recommending to dealing with the PRS upgrade at least, plus not having the rattling noise of the conventional spring is certainly quite nice.
>>
>>31749072
>>31749067

What's a good alternative? Rainier or something else?

I can't really buy a complete AR-10 because I live in NY, I have to build it myself and make it NY compliant probably with a custom non-threaded barrel. Or put a fixed mag kit in, would be easier. Anyway I'm going off topic here. Just looking to build a really nice one over the next year or so and need some good options, doesn't need to be Mega.
>>
>>31749121
Cant you just buy the parts and assemble it when you move out?
>>
>>31749157

Yes. Or I could just build it while I'm still here and say fuck it. Regardless I'm set on building one over buying one.

That still leaves the question, what are my options for really nice upper/lowers that are potentially still available?
>>
>>31749121
I'm sadly not as up to date on building an AR10 as I was with AR15s.

Here's a thread on calguns.net that tries to collate all of the compatibility and quirks of the various ar10 styles. Hopefully it helps

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=1219338&page=2

Aero Precisions seem to be popular. I've also heard decent things about Palmetto's AR10s, but you're severely locked to their platform, they're pretty much incompatible with other AR10 parts.

The only hang-up I have ever had is shooting too short of a cartridge through the 30 round magazines. It keeps the bolt from going back into battery because the system thanks it's out of ammo. But since I reload that is not an issue. Had her out yesterday shooting at 500 yards only took one round to get it on paper on a Shoot•N•C 17.25" it is a fine weapon.

Most 30-06 rounds are loaded to an average overall length of 3.240 and the M2 Ball was 3.340 on average. The reason the rifle spec is set for M2 is because the H.C.A.R. is built off the old BAR.

SSR if you can hold your breath till...........

It's a well made gun with an incredibly touchy gas system, which is why i sold mine

If you only buy one brand of ammo it'll work fine.

If you go from tula to pmc gold you're gonna have to adjust it.

This. I've heard nothing but phenomenal things about the GAP10. If you've got the dosh and the patience, they are god-like precision out of the box.

Yeah that's a good point now that I think about it, GAP10s are pretty heavy, unloaded with no scope they're already at 9lbs. That's leaning more into bench gun territory.
>>
>>31758425
It's more that FN USA issued a recall for them in August and they've been slow to get guns with the new bolts out to distributors. A SCAR isn't exactly the type of gun that gets panic-bought anyway, since it's so expensive to start with.

On a different note, if anyone needs G3 mags, I got a shipment from Brownells of two ten-packs today. Every mag looked fantastic; no rust or anything that I could see, though one had some duct tape residue on it. Of the mags I got, 13 were HK, 4 were Kongsberg, 2 were Rheinmetall, and one was an unknown German manufacturer.

(Is 20 mags enough? I'm considering grabbing another set of 10 but I already have more mags than boxes of ammo at this point.)
>>
>>31758705
SCAR amigo. More parts availability and proven performance versus vaporware with an uncertain release date.

Can someone recommend a good precision long-range rifle that is semi-auto? I need something that I can use to monitor long stretches of roads from hilltops (I'll be living in a rural part of Washington state). I would also like it to be capable of having a silencer. Budget is 2k-3k. I'm 19 and trying to prepare for the upcoming war.

Buying an expensive rifle doesn't mean you bought the skillset which is gained by experience. Instead of throwing money at an overpriced rifle that comes with a fancy brochure you should be researching what exactly makes a rifle accurate in the first place

I don't care about how expensive it is, I just want it to last and not fail on me. You got to pay the price for quality. Plus it's not like I'm never going to not practice with it. Why should I get some cheap crap to practice with and spend a lot of time working my way up? When I can just have something good from the beginning and and spend my time mastering it?

>>31759881
I've been good at everything I've tried, and I really don't think long range shooting (and shooting in general) would be that hard to accomplish.
>>
>>31738066
AR10's are all over the place in price. A cheap AR15 is like $500 and a cheap PTR-GI is like $900. For <$1400 you can get one gun that's better than both. I'd suggest a DPMS GII Recon or something. They're smaller and lighter than other AR-308's and certainly better in those ways than a PTR-91 or FAL.

Your entire post just reveals your ignorance about guns in general. Diminishing returns when it comes to the amount of money you spend on a gun is real. The more you spend the less improvement you get over a certain dollar amount ( a PSG-1 that can shoot .3 MOA is $12k)

This of course is not even touching the fact that your lack of experience with guns in general leads to your belief that you can make your "sniper" fantasies real. But of course things such as lugging a heavy specialty tool that you have to baby around in the woods is something you haven't thought about

Yeah, I don't plan on spending 12 grand on a sniper rifle. But since when can you get a decent rifle for sub 1k that isn't primarily for hunting? (I don't know which is why I was asking for recommendations.)

And no I not trying to live a fantasy as a super cool sniper; "Hey guys I'm a sniper, check out my sniper rifle, let me quick scope this soda can across the backyard to show you how cool I am".

I want something that will suit my situation. My grandpa, whom I will be living with, already has an arsenal of close-mid range firearms, but nothing really for long range. Which is what I want so I can fill the gap. And no shit I will be willing to deal with all the misc crap of having to own it like "lugging a heavy specialty tool that you have to baby around in the woods" because it is for the sake of survival, not "looking cool".

You should do some research on what makes a rifle long range shooter to begin with. Before you buy a gun for a fantasy "situation" you might also want to do a bit of research on what exactly your "situation" would be if you fantasy ever came true
