Asked last thread but didn't get an answer. I have a 16" AR that I eventually want to SBR, and a stripped lower I want to turn into an 18" rifle. Should I get a third stripped lower before the election just so I'll always have something to play with later? The LGS has a bunch of Aero lowers for $95, but if I do decide to build a third AR, I'd ideally like to either build it off a nice Mega or Rainier billet set and use the stripped I currently have for a KISS rifle, or I'll buy a complete Quarter Circle 10 PCC once they drop their complete guns on the market.

The alternative right now is to buy more Glock mags and 5.45/.308 ammo. I've got about 30 AR mags of 30 rounds or more already, though I might grab a few not-polymer ones just to have later.

Let's dispel this fiction that people who buy G rails are "rich," and those buying ALG are "poor."

Most G rails seen on are bought on sale (many times a year). Forget about the blem sales at $99. Let's take the 25% off sale on PA.

THUS, $225 - $44.25, the rail if it were possible to be bought separately has the theoretical value of $180.75.

As you see, if you take away the cost of the GB, the G Rail on sale (very often, ~5-6 times a year on most holidays) is literally the same price as the ALG ($180). But since the G Rail isn't sold separately from the GB, then it is only $45 more ($225 vs $180 respectively).

Even using all sale prices, the G rail ($225) is only $72 more than the ALG ($153).

If you consider that ALG buyers need to purchase a Gas Block ($44.25, other GBs of similar quality costs ~$40), which brings the cost up $153 + $44.25 = $197. 25, then there's only a $27.75 difference between the price of the two rails.

Even at full price ALG+GB = $180+$59 = $239, the G Rail ($300) has only a $61 premium over ALG.

TLDR: A G Rail is at most $27.75 - $72 more than an ALG, not including the tools (torque wrench $25-$50 needed to install the G rail) vs $5 pipe for the ALG. They cost similarly. Yes, the G Rail may be considered aesthetically superior, but ALG has undoubtedly better ergonomics. Both are strong, but ALG may be slightly stronger due to tubular nature. Just user preference.

I too am worried about our country's future.
A cheap red dot would do you good unless you live in a pretty rural area. I would consider the PA MD ADS, or the Bushnell TRS25 if you're on a budget. If you live in a more rural area and foresee yourself using your rifle outside of 200m then consider a magnified optic, maybe some kind of variable power scope. Primary Arms has some decent budget stuff.

No reason to get a drum mag, but you should certainly stock up on magazines. D&H mags, mil spec aluminum ones with green or yellow followers, Pmags, and Lancer mags are all good to go.

Right now what you need most in order of importance are a flip up rear iron sight, just grab a Magpul MBUS, a sling, an then some sort of optic, either a red dot or a magnified depending on where you live.

That still doesn't help at all. For your lower any lpk from a reputable manufacturer will be fine. If you can afford it a good trigger is one of the best things to get for your rifle. Geissele makes many great triggers and the Larue mbt is goat trigger and it's cheap.

Stocks are kind of subjective but I'd go with a b5 sopmod or one of magpuls offerings.

Your upper will depend on your budget. bcm makes great uppers for $515 with no handguard so you can pick your own or for a little more you can get a upper with a kmr

I'd suggest you build your own upper so you can pick a good barrel and whatever handguard you want. ballistic advantage and larue make the best barrels under 250

I'm guessing you've never even looked at a magnified EOTech? It actually adds a large amount of definition and "crisp-ness" to the reticle. Seriously go look at one in person, if you can't go google some pictures, it's as nice as illuminated reticles on traditional magnified optics.

Plus you can buy one magnifier and use it on every any other rifle with a red dot since they are QD and do not effect the zero of a rifle.

What are /k/'s thoughts on this company's uppers? Prices in the $200-230 range for barreled uppers with freefloat handguards. Obviously, it's not going to be a premium set up, but is it good enough for the price? It seems like freefloat handguards tend to sell for $200-230 anyway when you just buy them alone, and with one of these, you get a barreled upper added in as a bonus. Depends on what kinda suppressor you plan to run. Both AAC and Surefire make their own muzzle devices that are meant to host suppressors.

There are also some suppressors which are manufactured to attach to the standard A2 device.
