picking up the question though

would an AKM bolt carrier/bolt fit into an SVD receiver or vice versa ?

Not even close

do AKM parts fit into a PSL though ?

Not at all, they're entirely different.

I wish I could afford an SVD, not because of any mystical slavshit qualities but just because a short stroke x54r rifle designed by a guy who was already famous for designing Olympic gold medal winning target rifles would be really neat.
>>

I mean they tend to be poorly balanced but an N-PAP is generally over built compared to a regular AKM, still not as bad as a regular M70AB2 though

I know some people have mixed m76 and psl parts without to much custom work. Bet an AK bolt carrier would fit in the receiver but probably won't work with the trunnion

>rifle will forever be a Bulgarian early-mid production AKS74 clone and ill never be able to make it fully resemble the rifles I want it to resemble

Never bothered me much before but now my autism is slowly making it more and more noticeable. I still love the rifle but it isn't 100% correct looking outside of wood and Bakelite and that makes it more and more like a compromise rifle than what I actually want it to be. I need to move and get enough space for what I need to start building so I can my myself exactly what I want.

I should have bought an SGL when I had the chance. I had so many opportunities to but never went through with it and now they're b& and like $1500+

Weld over the pins and do faux dimples.

99% of dimpled parts kit builds on the market are done exactly like that
>>
>>31721761
Why do people hate on us barrels? Is it because they just aren't what the gun originally had, I.e. foreign, so it's not "correct" to the style or something?
>>
>>31722161
Yes.
>>
>>31722161
>hurr durr theres nuthin wrong with a no-name US made barrel because there have never been shitty US made AK barrels on the market ever!
>>
>>31722161
Mostly it's because US made barrels are button rifled and not hammer forged.
And some of the shittier ones are super soft almost to the point of being malleable.
No bueno.
>>
>>31722161
Soft steel and made by companies without pedigree

Now if we got someone like FN to start making hammer forged AK barrels in their SC plant I wouldn't have a problem with those at all

Hey fuck face, the reason people are wary about US made AK barrel is because a lot of people have gotten fucked over by shitty barrels in their rifles before from companies that have no track record. So how about you go fuck yourself and lurk more you fucking faggot
>>
>>31722043
How exactly does that work if for whatever reason you needed to take parts off the barrel? Just grind off the weld and punch the pin like normal or does it require cutting of the front sight/gas block?

you'd have to drill off the weld on both sides and try to knock it out, or just drill it out. There's not really a reason why you'd need to remove your barrel components though, just get it right the first time and you're good.

>>
>>31722641
Yeah, in terms of design there are some borrowed principles between Russian gear and other nations. It's interesting to read about their first bouts in Afghanistan. They adapted their own version of the chicom chest rig as well as the 5.45x39 round in part due to their observations from our experience in Vietnam. The soviet-afghan war is, in some respects, Russia's "vietnam".

They also took influences from our other gear such as the IIFS and ALICE. Between our two surplus markets, there are a lot of common design elements; enough to where you can go piecemeal and make one country's uniform out of another's... At least that's what I'd like to explore.

When an AK is transformed into a parts kit, is it converted in the U.S. or done in the foreign country before being imported.
>>
>>31724144
i'd say before cos ATF is apparentl super butt hurt about "third pin holes" and anything full auto related entering us soil
>>
>>31724144
Must be done before being imported.
>>
>>31721628
Is this real?
Haha please be real
>>
>>31724198
Oh, so the BATFE or the importer provides info on demilling to the factory who does it?
>>
>>31724144
It can be done in 2 ways -

1. You have it done before they are shipped stateside.

2. You get permission from ATF to ship the whole rifles to an FTZ here in the U.S., then chop them up. They are formally "imported" upon leaving the FTZ.
>>
Hey /k/, I've been browsing /akg/ for a while figuring out what to get for my first AK. I know to stay away from IO and RAS 47s, but between a WASR and a C39V2, what are the benefits of each?

>>31722691

>>31724496
WASR has a real deal chrome lined hammer forged barrel and a standard scope rail
it also weighs less and comes with a bayo lug and cleaning rod

the C39v2 is heavier, has a worse barrel, and lacks a rail, lug, or rod

Hello, /akg/. I would like to buy a Russian-made AK with one of those triangle side folding stocks. Gotta do it soon because California :^(

What's should I look out for?

How many mags do you have, /akg/? I'm getting my -74 back from the builder in late December/early January with any luck, so I've been buying up mags in the meantime. Currently sitting on 1 East German bakelite, 3 Izzy bakes, 1 Tula bake, 5 Izzy plums, and 1 Tula plum.

How are the Bulgarian commercial mags for just beaters? After paying $27+ per mag I'd like to have at least a few to just toss around and Magpul seems to be dragging their feet on their 5.45 mags.

Need some help deciding. Should I just keep waiting and periodically check akfiles every day for some 7n6 for sale, or should I just buy some Silver Bear right now?

I really want to get a batch right now, but I've also been wanting to get myself some surplus as well. What do?

Also why does Golden Tiger seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth? Can't find it anywhere at all. It's like a phantom.
>>
Repost from last thread since it died and I only got one response.
Best AK at or below $1K? I recently shot a cheap AK and find myself wanting to have an AK rifle at some point in the future. Don't want to spend a ton on one of those collectable Egyptian ones, just a well-made, sturdy as fuck rifle for at or around $1K. Don't particularly care where it's made. I prefer wood furniture but I guess I could do with some synthetics as long as it doesn't look blacktical. Should also mention I prefer a longer, fixed stock to folding ones but I guess a telescoping stock like an AR's wouldn't be all that bad.
Tripfag on last thread replied saying the Arsenal SLR-104FR was "the best factory AK money can buy right now." Anyone wanna back this up or argue? I'm just looking for suggestions as I'm new to the AK scene.
Also, what are the options for mounting optics or using different iron sights on AK's?
>>
>>31727578
Depends. How much are you willing to pay for 7n6? Most tins I see on AKFiles usually end up well over $300, and half of them refuse to ship the tins anyway.

I'd just keep an eye out at local stores/gun shows. I actually stumbled into about 150 rounds of 7n6 at a local AK-focused shop a month ago and snatched it up since it was apparently the last they'll ever sell (the owner is an AK nut and is sitting on a massive stockpile to use in his dealer sample funswitch guns).
>>
>>31727590
I got myself an SLR-104FR. Literally my favorite gun right now. Extremely great build quality, though I haven't shot it very much so far.

I replaced the guards with wood, grip with bakelite, and the stock with a metal triangle folder.

The gun itself is fantastic. The downside is its expensive. Mags are expensive, ammo is hard to find. But still a great ass gun. For about $100 more, you can choose to get a SAM instead, which is their line of milled receivers.
>>
>>31727605
My expected price range/limit for the a can is roughly $250. Don't see it anywhere deviate very far from that. I've checked most of my guns stores in town, even went to a gun show last weekend. Literally nobody had 5,45 anything.

go for silver bear. GT 5.45 production is being consumed by russian military contracts, and their 7.62 is going the same direction
>>31727590
so long as you have a rail on the left side, you have a lot of options for optics. some come with integrated mounts, others are rail mounts, and you also have ring-style mounts. depends on what rifle you have; how you want it centered with your bore, and what you plan to use it for.
If you just want something to ride to hell and back with, get a rail or ring mount and put an Aimpoint PRO/CompM4 on it.
>>31727634
expect to always be ordering 5.45 online
>>
>>31727459
5.45x39:
>10 Izhmash plums
>9 Izhmash true blacks
>6 black (10)s
>6 Bulgarian sanitized Russian mags

7.62x39:
>12-18 Chinese flatbacks (at the very least a dozen that I'm positive I have, but every time I visit my parents' house I find another that my dad had stashed with other gun stuff and then finds and gives to me)

I honestly doubt we'll ever see $.23/rd 7n6 ever again. I'd just jump on the Silver Bear/Brown Bear/Wolf/whatever. You can keep an eye out for 7n6, but it's only ever going to go up in price from now on.

>>31727590
SLR-104s are great. I'd also consider the VEPR-based AKs that FIME is importing right now. Those seem to be sitting right at around $1K.

Well, I actually have high(er) hopes now for the not-too-distant future.

I've had two different guys at two different LGS's who told me that the ATF lifted the 7n6 ban not too long ago. It's just going to be a little while to get the import cycle going again.

Also if Trump wins, we'll (hopefully) have good relations with Russia for once and we can start importing and exporting all sorts of goodies.

How come if you build a kit gun you have to adhere to 922(r) even though the receiver is manufactured in the U.S.?

I don't think Trump is going to win. We might even lose the senate and things will go way downhill from there unless the GOP can stop the bleeding until 2018.

I really hope the 7n6 ban is up though. I won't shoot the stuff myself since my AK is ironically going to be my safe queen after all the time and money I invested into it, but if it is done for it'll drive down the costs of the other commercial ammo with any luck.

I disagree. It's looking extremely promising for Trump right now, despite what the lying fucking media says. We're about to witness the final showdown tomorrow.

I mean I honest to God do hope that Trump wins because if Hillary wins, a significant portion of the population isn't going to just sit back and let her triple rape us in the ass after Obama's had his turn. It very well could get bloody and messy and I'd rather not use my AK for those purposes.

I feel like the other direction could be equally bad. Obama's stirred up enough racial tensions to last a decade, and Trump's anti-Hispanic rhetoric hasn't helped things. I honestly worry that a Trump win could make the pendulum swing back even harder against the GOP as Hispanics continue to make up more and more of the population (my family is Hispanic, and despite them voting red since forever, there's an endless amount of bitching coming from their direction over San Antonio becoming blue, in large part because Mexicans tend to hate Trump for obvious reasons). It could cause a pair of Democrat wave elections that give them control of both houses, and then we'll get an AWB shoved down our throat for certain.

I dunno, I'm worried either way. This election has gotten to the point where it's begun to negatively impact my physical health from the stress.

Not unless you replace the entire backplate and trunnion with one to attach a fixed stock on. Takes a little work, but I think possible.

>Also what are the advantages/disadvantages of milled vs stamped other than durability

Well in short,

Milled=heavier, solid, more brittle
Stamped=lighter, folded (stamped metal), flexible

Milled is made from a solid block of metal and stamped is folded sheet metal. People swear that one is far superior to the other and it seems to be one of those eternal debates, but honestly, I think it's just preference at this point with the technology we have.

Update on my io that my buddy sold me.
I emailed cust service and complained about my ak not having a cleaning rod and the front sight being wobbly and movable just by turning the gun from side to side.
Yesterday a package randomly arrived. A cleaning rod and a ziplock bag filled with 3 extra rubber recoil buffers?!(why would they send me those)
Any way I emailed them again , explained that they should contact their complainants instead of just sending shit(I said it in a nice way). I thanked them and RE iterated my wobbly sights and handguard. I was replied to the next morning by a nice lady named janean. She says she doesn't have a fix for handguard but she is sending a "part" that will fix my front sights....

At least IO is trying to support their shitty guns. That brings them up a notch in my book

PS WTF am I to do with all of these recoil buffers?

both are good
>>
>>31730518
also, might have furniture compatibility problems with the vepr, because it's an rpk receiver
>>
>>31730518
If you want 5.45 get the slr .
The 7.62x39 is dependent on your end game.
>>
>>31730582
I'm think I'm leaning more towards 7.62x39. I gather I would have more aftermarket choices with the slr if I wanted to tacticool my shit later on down the road?
>>
>>31730647
yes >>31730550
specifically you might have to cut down hand guards to work with the rpk receiver

>>
>>31730119
Like $130-$160 with no Molot shield

$300 or so with the Molot shield
>>
>>31730715
Cool i just paid 200$ for 2. Idk if shield probly not.
>>
>>31730829
Pretty good deal. I'll buy one off you for more than you paid for both if it's a shield one in good condition.

SLR104-fr or Vepr ak74?

I realize that the 104 is a AKS-74 clone, with how much work could one convert the vept to an AKM-74 clone?
>>
>>31730847
They were advertised as NOS so im hoping they are pristine but who knows. Ok ill let you know when they get here. The best part is they are in the US
>>
I want a cheap AK pistol as a truck gun.

Should I get a Draco or PAP?

>>31729283
Oh god that preban real fucking nato Galil has me rock hard.
>>
>>31730847
Looks like no shields.....
Mold 2 tho
>>
>>31730867
no such thing as an AKM-74

do you mean AK-74M? the Arsenal black polymer furniture will approximate the appearance of a 74M decently
>>
>>31730995
>45 degree gas block....
>>
>>31730867
>>31730995
Just reread that. The Vepr takes RPK handguards and doesn't have a cleaning rod, bayonet lug, or equipment lug. The gas block is also different. The rear trunnion is for a fixed stock.

They are probably excellent rifles, but they will never resemble anything military-issued unless you go through the trouble of having one converted to an RPK-74m.
>>
>>31731032
It's nice that it's a square back
>>
>>31731105
They have reagular bullet guides right? Not that screw shit like 1vs?
>>
>>31731134
That'd be nice too but I couldn't tell you either way
>>
>>31730414
Slant brake for AKM
Zigzag for AK74
Birdcage for either
>>
>>31731134
>>31731143
Bullet guide is riveted.
>>
>>31731017
It's not 45 degree on the vepr. It's a 90 despite looking similar to a standard 45 degree block.
>>
>>31731165
Double riveted? That's cool
>>
>>31731171
Well thats the point. Correct for a rpk not for a ak74m. Its drilled at 90 degrees of course
>>
>>31731263
It still looks goofy yeah, and no 74 style FSB also pisses me off.
Make those two changes, and I'd be happy. Add a folder, and I've even be happier.

I know this, unfortunately. I really want a Type A Beryl; it's just the most aesthetic variant (though the modernized variant with the collapsible stock is much more functional).

Exact opposite, actually. The first photo is the current configuration, but I don't have any extra pictures of it like that. I only snapped one pic while rushing out the door to get to the FL /k/ meet and haven't bothered to take any since. The Magpul handguard was actually trashed when I tried removing it because the morons at Magpul didn't bother adding a standoff to the design, which caused the polymer to melt onto the handguard retainer.

>>31731574
I really want a Galil but I do love my beryl.
>>
>>31731592
i just don't like that galils take proprietary 5.56 mags unlike the beryl which takes everything 5.56 for the most part.
5.56 ak mags that is.
>>
>>31731612
Most Galil mags I've seen have been cheaper than the "regular" 5.56 AKs mags though.

Can you swap furniture on some AK's? If that's the case with VEPR's I want one because furniture is important to me.
>>31730318
I see. Is it possible to add those to an AK lacking them? Do most AK's come with those?
>>
What is the best way to mount a light to an AK? Railed upper hand guard? Railed gas tube? I've read it's best to get it as far forward possible with out it being too forward, so you don't get back splash on your front sight. Good weapon light for +/- $200? Thanks in advance.

I hope you know they're fucking huge, and unless you're a really, really "hungry man," even medium regular is going to be big on you.

They're all stupid long, but I'm talking exclusively about chest size.

You planning on hemming up the bottom of the parka? Did you get a liner too?

yeah, i got a small and I think XS would have been better, but it's not unworkable. 6' 135lb, for reference. Thinking about either hemming the bottom, or folding and tucking it in. If I wear a belt over it (I will) it should be fine folded.
I have a compatible liner from one of the M65 jackets, it's a little shorter, but I won't need it anyway (FL).
The pants fit me perfectly when worn over clothes. I got 30" 32", which is my normal size.

some of my friends with similar builds have seen a lot worse. one had his lungs delaminate from his chest and collapse (pneumothorax); that was fun. gotta stay active!
