they're very good at insulating and keeping dust/insects out. not uncomfortable to wear in the summer.
if I don't have a shemagh, or sunscreen, I'll make one out a t-shirt as to not get sunburnt.

i like shemaghs better than balaclavas because they can protect the neck well. i also tend to have moisture problems with my balaclavas, but I should probably consider other materials.

honestly I would wait for a few more years, they probably won't understand what is going on and the noises will scare them.
dad took me to the range first time when I was about 7 and my earpro didn't work. I thought it was normal and it made for a horrible experience. didn't like firearms for a while after that.

People have been saying they have ESS barrels. Those barrels are soft, but it's only an issue when building the rifle. They should last 20k plus rounds. I don't know if if is an ESS or not but I'm happy either way for $499
>>
>>31733435
What do you mean its an issue when building the rifle? I have one of classics AMD65 parts kits with the barrel already pressed on. Will I be running into any trouble?
>>
>>31733289

That's how the AK market is these days. You have to be ready to purchase at a moment's notice. Remember, you're competing with those guys that buy 3 or 4 at a time because they're either wealthy or are building credit card debt like a motherfucker and just don't care.
>>
>>31733459
You won't have issues. The only issue would be bending the barrel while pressing it in.

Smooth top cover should be here tomorrow or Friday. It was supposed to come today but it got delayed. I've had super shitty luck with getting things in the mail from FedEx lately. First I had four true black mags lost in Oregon for 28 hours and now this top cover being lost in my own state for 16.

I've got a long collar 74M brake on the rifle now, so with the smooth top cover it's as close as I can get it to mimic a 74M without messing with the barrel components and replacing the 4.5mm rear trunnion.

4.5mm SGL21bro here

Arsenal, for some stupid reason, chose to keep the droopy stock angle when they made their 4.5 polymer folder If they could revise the design to be more in-line with the receiver (like a true AK100 stock) I wouldn't mind the 4.5mm trunnion at all.

My eyes just instantly pick up on the incorrect angle now. Hopefully it doesn't bother you the same way. I've never heard of a 4.5mm read trunnion being swapped out for a 5.5mm. Not sure if it's possible to do it nicely.
>>
>>31735413

Treat it like anything firearm related. If they catch you importing shit without permission they can seize it. What happens to the items they stole from you? They sell them at auction to someone in the US anyway. Even though it's illegal to import said items. The government sells stolen goods.

It's still affected by the receiver angle. I don't find it to be a big deal to be honest, just put a stock you like better on it
>>
>>31735669

>I've never heard of a 4.5mm read trunnion being swapped out for a 5.5mm

If you're going for that level of authenticity, you're better off building from a parts kit using a receiver with the correct markings to begin with. Only downside is that you're going to have to use a Bulgarian barrel unless you want to buy a saiga and use it as a donor rifle.
>>
>>31735475
If I have to it won't be too difficult, mostly I just wanted a smooth top cover to go along with the brake. I used to see them for sale semi regularly but these past few months or so I haven't seen any, so I just wanted one to have one while I can still find them.

>>31735669
Yeah the stock angle isn't quite right but it doesn't bother me that bad, the rifle will never be 100% accurate considering it's Bulgarian. If I were building a 100 series clone then yeah it'd bug me but I'm not, I'm just putting parts on an SLR104. You can replace the rear trunnions but it still won't have the correct angle because the receiver. I'd only ever consider replacing the trunnion if I really REALLY wanted to get a legitmate Russian black poly folder instead of a Bulgarian but I'll never do it though because I'm happy enough as is, the little angle doesn't bug me.

Also this >>31735707, if I wanted to go full autism for a legitimate 74M clone I'd need proper markings to be 100% happy with it. The correct parts alone will run you at least a grand. I'm perfectly happy with my SLR though, I can shoot it and abuse it and don't need to worry about damaging expensive and rare parts on a kit build.

If it is the full length SLR (FR model) then I say buy it up. That is, if you want a 5.56 AK, which is up to you.

if it is one of the shortened ones with the pencil 16" barrel then you should keep your distance.

If you want a range toy, go ahead and buy a RAS. Shoot a couple hundred rounds a year, oil it, put it in the safe and pat yourself on the back. Just don't pretend it's built to the original spec. Cast trunnions, bolts, and bolt carriers are sub-par.

Also, get some headspace gauges and learn to use them.

"Beat itself to death" refers the poor fit and quality of the Big Three (bolt, bolt carrier, and trunnions) resulting in a loss of headspace simply by firing the gun a lot. This can happen to any AK, but normally only after many tens of thousands of rounds.

Once again, if you don't care if your rifle can pass a torture test, if you don't care about cast vs forged, if you don't plan on shooting 5000+ rounds, then go ahead and buy a RAS.

You're the one who will be behind the rifle, not us.

Just have a set of gauges and keep in mind the rifle may need re-headpaced if you replace the bolt or carrier with a surplus one. Front trunnion is a whole different animal.

If you're that excited about 1MOA, maybe consider an AR for the same price point as the RAS.
>>

How's that muzzle break work? Any difference in performance? I've seen it around and have considered buying it.
>>
>>31739331
In general, I prefer to buy a factory made rifle built in a country that actually fields it.

With a new WASR you know you're getting a chrome-lined cold hammer forged barrel that yes, while it might be 2-3MOA, will have twice the life expectancy of US AK barrels. The bolt carrier, bolt, and trunnions, are all forged as the spec calls for. Rivet work is more consistent (The RAS examples I've handled are sketchy in that department).

The new ones have a good fit and finish that rivals anything Century build themselves. In short, it's a quality AK built by Cugir, who has built AK's for decades.

I really want to build a 74 from a Bulgarian parts kit. I've been told that AKs are really easy to fuck up and to just send it to a professional builder. Is this just fuddlore? I don't see anything too difficult in the process.
>Press barrel components on
>Rivet front trunion into receiver
>Press barrel in, check headspace, press barrel pin
>Rivet rear trunion
>Rivet trigger guard
>AR-15 level internal assembly
>Refinish

Is there anything in the listed process that's difficult? Should I stick with the 74 or build an AKM? Which barrels are worth a shit? Is there a particular finish I should use? NoDak Spud looks like the most recommended receiver, but what about Childer's Guns? He offers custom engraving, and I kinda want to get a name engraved on it. Kalashifags pls help

Is it pointless for me to pick up an AK/other rifles if I'm cross-dominant (IE left-eye dominant and right handed). I would like to purchase a WASR but if I'm gimped forever it seems like a bad investment.

What prevents you from just using your left eye to aim on an AK over an AR? I just tried shouldering my AK and AR and putting my left eye inline with the sights and it should be fine as long as you have a raised optic.
If there really was a problem using a offset optic like the PK-AS might help?
>>
>>31741887
I'd always been told cross-dominance in terms of long rifles meant you were fucked and it was easier/better to just shoot with your offhand than to try and overcome it. If shouldering on your right and sighting with your left is as easy as you say I may go ahead and get one anyway.

It's not exactly comfortable as usually you want to have the stock high on your cheek and trying to get my left eye inline, led me to having the stock closer to my mouth, which might be a really uncomfortable while shooting. Even if it isn't uncomfortable, you're definitely going to have to get an optic with a riser since I can't use the sights at all with my left eye being so high up.
Do you have any rifles or friends with rifles?
If not try going to a local gun shop and see if they'll let you try it out or rent one at a range.

use your left shoulder if your left eye is dominant. rifles aren't that hard to switch shoulders with, even bolt actions (though bolt actions with optics are annoying)

if you have problems during transitions with your right eye not taking over, sometimes squinting will help

just practice more

My Fiance's father has an AR-15, but I never go "home" to where he lives to go to the range with him, unfortunately. Most of the LGS' in my area with ranges are run by cunts who wouldn't let me, I think. I'll just have to shoulder it and see how bad it is.
>>31742006
This is what I was afraid of. I'm a lanklet that only weighs 120lbs so shoulder fatigue with my left would probably be a problem.

how tall are you?
I'm 6' 135lb and I fire rifle .30cal+ cartridges all the time with no issues.

just exercise and you won't strain yourself. If I can work with an FAL, you can at least make an AK work.

Cross eye dominant works fine with AKs especially as a lanklet

It takes a while to adjust your body to make shouldering the rifle on your weak hand side the "correct" feeling thing to do, but it works eventually

I'm left eye dominant and right handed. I shoot left handed. This means the AK charging handle is on the correct side for me to use easily. It also means I use my stronger and more dexterous hand to reload. It also means I support the weight of the rifle with my strong arm, which helps me stay aimed without fatigue better. Advantages all around. As a recovering lanklet I can say it is the best thing.

No, I don't believe anything the MSM puts out on television, print, or online.

I do however believe that Trump's constituency is only 30% of the people voting, though. I'm willing to bet he gets crushed in the general fucking hardly.

If the RNC wasn't so fucking retarded they would have forbid anyone else but Rand Paul from running against Trump. He would've crushed Trump in the primary and killed Hillary by 20 points in the general.

I don't think the furniture looks very good, but I love how they went with a 74-style brake and supported a bayonet lug.
would be nice to see this wearing a shiny bakelite pistol grip and a more simple laminate handguard with palm swell.

Very nice condition. Price was $689.99 but I didn't have cash and wanted to off-load those two guns.

Mostly to change the barrel lengths, if I wanted to go with something shorter or longer depending on the situation. Unless the difference between 14" and 18" isn't that different in terms of ballistics.
