Well poo.
>>
>>31667115
I think it's actually shit. 2.5 hours of middle aged men moping around and about 12 minutes of good operating.

Now the operating scenes are great, but they don't make up for the otherwise painfully boring film. You really are better off watching the shootout scenes by themselves and skipping the rest of the movie. Same deal with Bulitt, great chase scene made it legendary, but the rest is garbage.
>>
>>31667582
No, Bullit was actually a good movie. It was a drama, a romance, a murder mystery, a car chase, and a bunch of stuff lashed together by McQueen when he was at the top of his form.

Agree about Heat though, mostly.
>>
>>31667582
Except for the incredible cast, tense plot, conflict with rooting for both the cops and robbers? Get fucked. It's an amazing movie. Hell, grand theft auto is essentially trying to develop the technology to emulate that movie.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I don't remember the plot being that tense. I'm pretty sure I remember there being a half an hour of nothing but Al Pacino's complicated family situation between any developments in the actual plot.

Best edition.

Upper receiver of the PTR (HK91) has a shelf welded on that prevents the drop-in of F/A lower grip frames. DIAS's exist but it was a compliance measure to allow import back in the day. PTR simply copied the HK 91 and went with it.
>>
>>31668518
So I could just get a PTR and add on HK parts as I go?
>>
>>31668538
Yeah pretty much, unless you're worried about 922r compliance (lol whatfucking ever).

Only thing you can't add without (illegal) modification is a F/A pack. Everything else is good to go.
>>
>>31668559
>922r
That's cute.
I just want a G3 and this seems like the least bank hurting way.
>>
>>31668587
You want a real G3? Save up and get a real one. Otherwise buy a real HK91 and a Fleming sear. Both options will cost you the same.

Wheres sone good places for AR-10 parts wanting to build something close to what bushmaster is offering with their XM-10 with magpul and A2 front sight. Maybe try and make a .308 dissy. Any good places to find parts to soothe my 7.62 AR boner?
>>
>>31668655
The AR-10 platform isn't really standardized right now, but there are a few circles that are the same spec (KAC and DPMS, Aero supposedly too but unverified)

For one I would probably just go with a complete rifle unless you are 110% certain you are mixing parts from the right makers.

Take it, it's on the house.
>>
>>31667764
It did have a great cast and some good moments outside of the shootouts but was terribly paced with questionable direction. I don't know if it suffered from obnoxious producers, bad writing or the director doing too much coke but about 2/3 of the film could be cut with no significant impact on the plot.

It's my opinion, I know you disagree and probably don't care but I think Heat is overrated.
>>31667901
Try an M1A or a .308 AK. They are both in a way actually better for lefties because the charging handles are on the right side. Ejection is on the right as well, but usually throws brass forwards anyway.

AR10s are viable too.
>>31668674
It's mostly DPMS but of course that's the issue. Mostly. Check, double-check, triple-check and if still in doubt just buy a complete rifle. M&P 10 and the Windham whatevertheycallit are both reasonably priced.
>>
>>31668779
And I still say Bullit rules.

And type i, type ii, or type 3?

>>
>>31670213
Any type, what's the difference between performance and highest quality?

In any case either of these.
>>
>>31670276
Easiest to get - DSA, call them up today, give them your credit card and FFL info, this time next week youll have it.

Price:performance - DSA or coonan.

Highest quality - LMT made DSA recievers. Serial numbers start with DSXXXXXXX. Hard to find in assembled rifles, hens teeth in stripped uppers.

LGS near me has a Springfield imported full imbel for $1200. Something like that or a DSA voyager if your looking for a cheap FAL

Reposting from the dead /arg/

I have $8,000 smackeroos to work with. I need 3 mid-price .308 AR-pattern ruffles. Guide me. PSA is completely out of stock on relevant funs, I don't really want to give Bushmaster my business.

Should I make them myself? If so, what kit would you recommend?

They MUST be .308. They don't necessarily need to be AR-pattern, but that is preferred.

Honestly I wouldn't bother with a M1A unless you're going to make a Bulldog or you want a M14 but can't have one cause "lol 20k and illegal in some states due to NFA". That's simply because there are better options for cheaper.
pic related is Bulldog.
>>
>>31680282
It was mostly because the owner gave me a pretty good deal, and, yeah, I like the look. Since my current collection leans towards scary black baby killers, a bit of fud is nice. I'll probably get a PTR in a few months assuming Clinton doesn't spark too massive a panic buy.
>>
>>31680314
Eh, I only want one for a Bulldog build and then one cause machineguns are illegal in my state. Really I'd try to buy a barreled action (gun minus stock) for the Bulldog build and then I'd buy a proper M1A or maybe a Fulton Armory copy.

An M1A is a name given to civilian version of the M14 made by Springfield Armory. If you take a look at the rifle in question, its not an M14 style rifle at all!

the reason it's on wikipedia and /k/ is because it's the widely accepted definition. try looking up battle rifle or assault rifle definition on google and find something everyone can agree on (you can't). the point is, even if you pull out the most definitive source of what battle rifle means (you haven't given any sources), it doesn't really matter because that's not how people use the term. if merriam webster changed the definition of assault rifle to some political bullshit, you probably wouldn't take that as the only true definition either.
>>
Anyone ever assembled an FAL kit? How difficult is mating the barrel and lower to the upper?
>>
>>31692798
>it's the widely accepted definition

You'll have to speak for yourself on that one. This is like the third straight /brg/ thread where people argued over the definition of a battle rifle. If the idea is that hotly contested, it's clearly not the "accepted definition" especially for one that makes each of its criteria highly debatable.

I want to put a PTR-91 on layaway soon. I'm planning on getting a wide handguard for it anyway, so I was looking at the A3S without the top rail but it's out of stock at Atlantic. On the other hand, they have the A3R with the wide handguard but with a welded top rail in stock.

I kinda wanted no top rail and a non-parkerized finish, but should I just go ahead and get the A3R and live with the top rail?

Also, mags - I'm planning to order 20 from Brownell's. Are the surplus mags they have usually in good condition?

I'd probably still get a ptr over a fal for money and quality reasons

Wouldn't mind an lrb m25 either but that's a lot of dinero

Gotcha. It's an improvement.

Yep. And I'm totally gonna fuck it (if the gun market isn't rekt by then) with a para kit, tacticool handguards, and a railed para cover with a good optic after I have ~1000 freed up to do it with

Similar but no ACR stock, if I was going to stray from the classic para one I was thinking of just an AR stock adapter. I wish they made MOE pistol grips from the FAL though

Ah, shame, I love ACR stock FALs.
>>

I both like and dislike it, it's a weird thing for me. If I happened across enough extra money I'd probably get it just so I could swap it in and out whenever I wanted to. Same with the fixed stock lower I have now

Should I just pay a Smith to build a kit for me? It's basically the same price as buying all the fucking tools and at least there is less chance for a fuck up
>>
>>31713348
Depends what you want to do, but paying for headspacing/locking shoulder installation isn't a terrible idea. The rest is fairly simple
