Battle Rifle Thread
SCAR hate threads are this seasons latest trend
LMT sexiness in MWS or FAL receiver flavor eludes OP. Will have to rely on my 17s to keep me warm at night till I can track one down.

And garands are still not battle rifles, but they are close enough (like feminine penis)

Eh, I'm not concerned about accuracy right now. I just found an extra 100 bucks so I wanna have enough .308 to go to the range and just fuck with the new gun while a buddy of mine fucks with his new gun, and then I can keep a little bit of ammo at home for just in case. I really need to buy more mags before I buy too much ammo, and finish how I want to build the gun before I worry about good quality ammo. Plus if I manage to not buy anymore ammo before the election and the worst happens I'll still have between 100-150 rounds of .308 to get me somewhere at least

So update on the sig716 short-stroke situation. Reading the stuff online for this puppy is damn near impossible. There seems to be conflicting information on swapping out the carbine buffer for the rifle buffer and what weight and spring it needs. I'm getting everything from cutting springs to finding silicone buffer tube spacers and shoving them in there and simply putting hte carbine spring/buffer back in to fit the PRS tube/stock.

I'm almost halfway tempted to use my optics planet gift card and just splurge on a JP Silent Captured Spring with all of its adjustable weights and doodads and configure from there, but I'm not sure. At least it would allow me to quickly swap parts and springs with relatively few tools at the range.

I've been thinking of building an AR-10 in 6.5 Creedmoor. Anyone have a lot of experience shooting this round out of a semi-auto? I read that throat erosion is a problem with this cartridge and that it has noticeable negative effects on precision after as few as 1000 rounds. Can anyone confirm this?

6.5 Creedmoor owner here in a Mega Maten receiver set. You would be hard pressed to burn out a barrel in 1000 rounds unless you did magdump after magdump like a retard. So far I've used mine in nothing but PRS matches (with shot strings as high as 15 per stage) and I am shooting 1/2 moa or better with 650 rounds through it with my handloads.

A 6mm creedmoor will burn through a barrel in 1200-1500 rounds (unless you chase the lands, in which case you can get a few hundred more rounds) but a semi in 6.5 creedmoor should be able to get 2300- 2500 rounds.

I have. Most throat erosion claims are fuddlore. No, the barrel will not last as long as .308 all other things being equal.

I don't have a battle rifle yet and I'm considering trying to buy one before election day so I don't get completely fucked. Right now I'm looking at a toss-up between the PTR-91 A3R from Atlantic (http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-rifles/ptr-91-a3r-308-rifle-detail.html?Itemid=0), or just buying an Aero A5 lower and building it up when I have the time. I'd really like a FAL or a SCAR-17S as well, but I don't have the money for those and magazine prices are going to only get higher for them as well, whereas G3 and .308 PMAGs are still relatively inexpensive.

If you like ARs and want another one, get the AR10. If you want something different get the PTR. The AR will be more customizable and you'll be able to get more out of it but I personally wanted something different. Definitely don't regret it, I find the PTR to be a lot more fun.
>>
>>31649188
Well, it's not quite a panic buy yet; I just bought a PCC, another AR lower, a Glock, and finally got my AK build underway. If anything, *those* are the panic buys. A battle rifle is the last "big thing" on my list that'd be likely to get swatted, and even then I'm watching the Senate/House races much more closely than the presidential before I pull the trigger on it.

What's a good price for surplus G3 mags these days? When I was initially batting around the idea, I remembered seeing them for about $5/mag, compared to $15 or so for .308 PMAGs and $lods for SCAR-17S mags. Never really looked into FAL mag prices.

It's not super prevalent, but the m5 sets small parts have a poor track record. Yes were talking about $5 worth of parts. Worth at least keeping spares in your range bag.

I just dont like the DPMS pattern receiver cuts or I would have jumpes last year when they were on a great sale. Aero is probably the price: performance sweet spot, mega or falkor/si-d being the boutique end.

But, a lot of private sellers have taken it upon them selves to not do bill of sale, but to mimic the CCWL shit. They will refuse to sell to anyone that doesn't have one. It's not hard to get, it's just a pain in the ass that they'd rather be lazy than inclusive.

I want to do a clone of this. I like the feel of ARs but I don't much care for .223/5.56mm, I already have AKs for intermediate rounds, and I have no need for .300 BLK. I see a lot of people saying that .308/7.62x51mm is wasted in a barrel shorter than 18" but I can really dig this carbine setup.

Any thoughts? How would I go about getting a config like this? Just get an AR-10 carbine and go from there?

are M14 mags a bad idea? Or is there an issue with the extended M14 mags? I like the style of the mags more than the regular AR-10 mags.

You have an odd sense of aesthetics then my man
>>
>>31651984
Look for an AR-10b model.
You might be able to get a deal on one because many want the newer "a" model that take DPMS/KAC/Magpul mags and an A4 railed upper.

If you need an aftermarket barrel your options with keeping the same BCG is going to be some Rainier Arms, Noveske, and you hit up Armalite, Id stick with RA and Noveske personally, Armalite barrels are not very good generally.

Just looked around at them, and given that I have tiny hands, hearing that it's a thin rifle interests me. How is its MOA, and what size barrel works best? How different is the standard vs. mini?

Is it easy to find cheap 7.62 NATO? Never shot the round but i love the aesthetic of the FAL, and im debating on building one when im out of college or buying a g3/g3 clone. Also, what are good ways to find wood furniture for rifles?

look for milsurp wood for your rifle. If you dont mind refinishing, you can get some slightly abused stuff pretty cheap in many cases.

Fairly straightforward, there are plenty of websites, blogs, and youtubes out there about it. Ask on /k/ for assistance too.

You could also start off with Ironwood designs, but that shit aint cheap, but holy fuck is it gorgeous.

Accuracy is not better than AR10 or SCAR, but seems better than FAL or Standard M1a. I read that the keymod versions are better than the first iteration (they fixed some gas block tolerances or something) Dunno what size barrel works best for accuracy I'd guess one of the longer ones. The standard is 18.6", and the mini is 16". The gas systems are different lengths, but they can both take a variety of bbl lengths.
>>
>>31652506
Also try looking at different countries variants, see what makes your dick the hardest. Then look on retailers websites and forums for people selling them also works.
>>
>>31652545
If it's SCAR or AR10 good, that's pretty good. Thanks, I'll be keeping my eye out on them until I secure enough funds.

As another poster mentioned, the company has a reputation of not being the friendliest to customers, so it seems best to work through a dealer. I will buy either an XCR or a SCAR myself. Neither are cheap, or perfect, but i want something nicer than my PTR:)

>>

Some people just don't private sale to people without CCWL's.

Every private sale I went through this way I asked them why they do it.

They all pretty much say that having a ccw license means you passed a background check and they are legally in the clear selling a gun to someone they don't even know due to the extensive background check required to obtain one.

I'd like to post just a few more comments regarding service. Some of you will not like these comments:

First, when you call for service, be polite. If you are not polite to my staff, I guaranty you will have a pleasant experience. Remember the old saying, "You can attract more files with honey that with vinegar." If you call with an attitude, my staff has been instructed to put you on the back burner. If you are nice and polite, you will get quicker service.

Second, please read the manual carefully. I know it's boring but there's important information there. Many people do not understand that you need to set the gas correctly for function and durability. It's really quite simple - put it on the setting that throws the brass 8 to 15 feet from the rifle for any given ammo. Do not just leave the gas system on the highest setting, If you do, for some ammo it will kick like hell, throw your brass 40 feet, give you trigger slap, and damage your recoil buffer (a cheap part).

Third, please send us the following information:

Name, Address, Email and Cell number;
Serial Number;
Signed Copy of your warranty Registration found in the last pages of the Operator's Manual; and
A complete description of the problem, BE BRIEF. If you write and essay about your vast knowledge of firearms base on your long time relationship with your AR-15, we won't read it.

We will authorize the return to us of part or all of your firearm. WE DO NOT PAY FOR SHIPPING TO US.

Fourth, if you post a bunch of whiny petty negative stuff here or anywhere, I guaranty very slow service. I have made that a policy. Yes, we've made lots of mistakes with service but that is behind us.

-continued-

Now for some parting comments. I am very happy with the current state of the XCR. It continues to gain in popularity. A great part of our sales are to Military and Law Enforcement professionals. Though we've got the XCR to the point where is nearly perfect, we are not stopping. We will continue to perfect the platform and add accessories. Work continues on the XCR .308. It will be finished when it is perfect and we hope that will be soon.

We appreciate those who stand by and support us. They are true patriots. We have to question the motives of those who continue to tear us down on this forum. They cannot stop us. Their petty feeble minds are easily exposed. The XCR will gain momentum until it covers the whole earth. There is no other platform like it and it is the best.

Sincerely,

Alex J. Robinson
General Manager
Robinson Armament Co.

P.S. Don't expect me to read and respond to this post. It is for your information only.

I've had a few emails that have asked me to clarify a few things.

Update on .308 and Stock. These projects are full speed ahead. Hopefully soon. They are both working but need a few tweaks. Those tweeks can take weeks or months depending on how things go. The bottom line is that we're seeing light at the end of the tunnel. THEY WILL BE DONE WHEN THEY ARE DONE.

That was a reply posted on arfcom IIRC. The owner basically came out saying his design is perfect, anybody having trouble is an idiot, and if you sound upset on the phone about your non-functioning $2k rifle you will be hung up on. He has since been sent on a long (probably indefinite), paid vacation by his investors last I heard.
>>
>>31659677
Guy who founded LWRC (Leitner Wise Research Company) was posting on arfcom under different accounts. Back in the day when 6.8 SPC and 6.5 grendel were all shiny and new, his company supported the SPC, and was shit posting the grendel by samefagging it up.

Got called out, got kicked out of his own company. The investors actually brought on some of the vendors to run the company.

Not sure what it is about shitty people running these companies that put out not fully tested products out on the market.
>>
>>31659677
>>31659776
Good to hear the investors don't want to put up with a CEO that shitposts on the internet. As for why shitty people run these companies. Probably the same reason they were able to start it up, too much force of personality

>>31659829
If you have a decent idea, and can speak passionately, you can get people to find you. They dont want to be in the day to day shit, but they do pay attention.
>>
>>31659776

Didn't LWRC also stir up shit when they took money and didn't deliver rifles to guys because some saudis ordered a bunch and they basically told Americans to fuck off until that contract was fulfilled? Or was that the usual barfcom bullshit?

Either way it put me off LWRC, so mission accomplished I guess?

If I want mail off a sacrificial SCAR barrel to them, they will be able to get me one now.

$1000 for a reciever extension and gas block is a little steep for me, and I buy Noveske barrels.

They said that they expected to have aftermarket barrel extensions and gas blocks done up by year end. Probably whoever is going to to them up for MGW and Handl is making them for deadshot. Though it would be interesting to see if they all were independently working on solutions on their own.
