Making a knife from my dad out of some old steel I found- first time I've ever done this. Got the shape roughly hacked out, but now I hear that the steel I've been using (case hardened) isn't great for a functional knife and will need regular sharpening to remain effective.

Will it be an alright knife assuming I don't fuck up the hardening/tempering process? I figured I'd put a scandi grind on it just so it's simple to sharpen on a stone.

Although I can't confirm the pipe compatibility statement. I've only used the original stuff, never anything homemade like that. That's seriously a good way to lose parts of your body. A lot of the instructions out there are deliberately seeded misinformation, including Anarchist Cookbook and others. If you don't know what you're doing, you'll end up losing your fingers or hands at best, killing yourself (and others) accidentally at worst.
