Roadkill the vette?

I'm not sure about the headgasket, but it is certainly a top contender at this point. I haven't checked the thermostat yet but the symptoms don't seem like a stuck closed or partially stuck thermostat.

She runs fine around town but overheats quickly if pushed past 55 mph or so. Small slow bubbles come up in the overflow tank and some vapor which may or may not be combustion smoke. If the HG are blown I'll probably sell it or stow it in TX.

"What is it like to fire an AR-15? It’s horrifying, menacing and very very loud.

It felt to me like a bazooka — and sounded like a cannon.

But mostly, I was just terrified.

Squeeze lightly on the trigger and the resulting explosion of firepower is humbling and deafening (even with ear protection).

The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don't know what you're doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable."

Or, if you just want the feels, they sell a full 20" rifle, but the barrel is nitrided and 1/8, but the price is right.

lower 1/3 no matter what
>>
>>31576782
Hah. I can see the benefits of either / or - lower 1/3 seems more comfortable, but absolute plays more into ease of use.
The way I see it is: If the red dot's battery dies, it's a clearer sight picture through the objective - straight on through. Plus, can maintain the consistent cheek-weld. With lower 1/3 it's quite low, nearly the bottom. And would have to switch cheek weld.
>still on the fence here
>>
>>31576821
I recommend lower 1/3
Absolute is kinda obnoxious
>>31576589
depends on use.

>>31576775

>>
>>31576821
You don't really gain anything with absolute co-witness.
If you're ever shooting from your other shoulder, shooting from weird positions, wearing a helmet, etc. then lower 1/3 will let you get behind the optic better.

It's not as big of a deal as it seams to change your cheek position. Once you look through it a few times, you'll know where your cheek needs to be on the stock
>>
>>31576769
what brand/model is yours? i definitely want some magnification, have considered a red dot + separate/flip to side magnifier. i have 2 other ARs with just red dots, want something different for this build.

It's a cheapy NcStar optic that I don't intend to keep on the rifle for very long. At the time I got it I didn't have much free money, and when I do spend more money on firearms the next time I'm going to be buying new firearms instead of accessories. That said, I do intend to get a real good-quality 4x scope and probably keep this thing to stick on a .22lr pistol or something.
In practice it actually seems reasonably functional as an optic, but the mounting system was garbage and I had to fiddle with it a fair bit to get it mounted properly. Aside from not having quite the eye relief that I'd prefer, it seems to hold zero so far and for the price I paid I really can't complain too much.

>AR-15 with 22"

what's the thinking behind this? I would think a short barrel is better in every way. Lighter, easier to handle, sufficient for engagements up to 300+yds. I was looking into the DD mk18 and heard as far as ammo consumption, it's set up so as to accept even the shittiest loads.

when shtf, is preferential barrel length just dependent on rural vs suburban environment?
>>
>>31577357
in a shtf scenario, a SCAR would be the best platform hands down in my opinion
>>
>>31577408
how do you reconcile that with the issue of parts availability, which swings in the AR15's favour versus almost any other rifle?

I'm not that familiar with SCARs since we can't get them in kanada.
>>
>>31574849
Lizard you in CA?
>>
>>31577439
theres a range in the US that runs SCARs and many other platforms, including m249s and m2 machine guns
they say by FAR the cheapest gun to run is the SCAR due to the fact that shit just doesn't break
I'd rather have a 308 anyways, and it's not like you find ptr/fal parts anywhere
ar-10s are sort of compatible
that said, I own an ak and ar.........

Excuse me, it's 38% of a pound instead of 50% of a pound. It's still a heavy goddamn muzzle brake.

And through a 24" rifle-gassed .223 it will have very little effect (just like every other muzzle brake design) and, due to how far out the first baffle is, possibly be worse than some other, less aggressive designs.

Why can't PSA keep a decent selection of uppers in stock?

Any other suggestions in a decent price range?
>16"
>Chrome lined

MBs don't even do fuck all on 20'' barrels
>>
>>31579554
Thank you for repeating what i just said
>>
>>31579542
It won't.

Brakes lose effectiveness as muzzle pressure goes down. Muzzle pressure goes down with longer barrels and longer gas systems.

Narrowly spaced baffles work better with low pressure than widely spaced baffles.

Multiple smaller baffles work better with low pressure than 1 big baffle.
>the JP Recoil Eliminator is a large, wide-spaced single-big-baffle brake
>it's on a 24" rifle-gassed barrel
I'd be willing to bet the difference between it and a bare muzzle on that rifle would be very small.
>>
>>31579543
Everyone keeps buying them

>>
>>31579581
Not everybody needs a chrome lined barrel, especially considering they cost (significantly) more and hurt accuracy?

The corrosion and erosion resistance of chrome lining is only marginally higher than the much cheaper QPQ lining?

PSA's target market are poor normies that wouldn't know a good rifle if you buttstroked them with one?

Take your pick.

That sucks.

Why's your optometrist iffy about lasik?

Try to get into an opthamologist for a second opinion. They know far more about WHY the eye does what it does than optometrists do.

If someone was willing to do lasik on me as an insulin-dependent diabetic with truly horrible astigmatism someone'll do it for you.
