Hey guys, I'm interested in building an AR and I would like some opinions.
First off I gotta say I absolutely hate the look of most ARs, the early A1 furniture and AR-10 furniture is what I love but I just can not, for the life of me, get behind how tall the AR is when you're using something below an 18" barrel and I cannot stand a majority of furniture that is produced.

That being said I've been learnt of the ARES SCR and I would like to hear some opinions on it, how it well it works if it works at all, and what you think of it as a lower in general.

As for an upper I would like to use a 6.5 Grendel upper (Even though that would burn a hole in my wallet wide enough to reach mainland Japan from Manhattan). Would that work? Would it fit? If not a 5.56 upper would be fine. I do not know the first thing about building an AR.

A vice block is something you clamp into a vice designed specially for building an AR with. Look into the magpul BEV block, will work for uppers and lowers

Roll pin punches. Little punches used to push in roll pins. A brass hammer would be helpful, once the pin is started you can usually substitute the punch with tape wrapped pliers
