I did the same thing with my AR in /arg/ and I will continue to do it with all my guns. Some people say I waste my money, but I think I just like to try things that are different and wacky. Don't worry, by the way, because it's going to change again soon. I'm going to sell the MWI rail and get another Russian optic :^

Is the cancer WASR beachwood really that bad if you restain it? If so where do I get a wood kit that isn't stupid fucking expensive or terrible.
>>
>>31498119
As I said previously, it's just not worth the trouble.
Too many posts saying it cracks or full on shatters.

Just look at BobSled's tRASh47 vids (it's the same furniture)
Century went full hebrew on getting 922r compliant furniture so they could stop replacing critical and more difficult to swap components (they used to swap the gas piston and did so rather poorly)

Was the Clearview set too much?
At $25 it's about as cheap as you're going to get currently.
>Albeit you're going to pay for an upper handguard +shipping from somewhere else.

You may be able to score a set for around the same on the AKFiles, but the majority of them have been refinished or are "collectible" and people want a more premium price.
>>
>>31498336
I looked there, not sure I'm a fan of the Romanian set with the vert grip and everything else is beechwood.

Might just pick up a set on armslist or something, I'll check AK files though.
>>
>>31498421
Fair enough.
What kind of furniture are you looking for?

Polymer?
Hardwood?

Bulged lower handguard? (since the dong doesn't interest you)
Standard?

Country of origin
Polish?
Romania?
Russia?
Bulgaria?
>US?

There's tons of stuff out there, it's just not necessarily going to be cheap.
That's the rub.

>>
>>31498463
Polish or Russian laminate are what you're looking for then, it seems.
As far as that exact color, good luck.
You'll either have to refinish a set with the proper shellac/dye/tar mix, or have it done for you.

>Google "Russian Red iodine", and there are more than a few way to try and achieve it.

Hope that gives you a place to start your search.
>>
>>31498463
Check the ak forum marketplace you should be able to pick up a nice set of Russian laminate for not to much

>I was just talking about the wood
Fair enough.
Hopefully I pointed you in the right direction then.

>You use powder rit dye and amber shellac
That's not a great way of achieving that look, but I've seen worse.
If you do go that route, try hitting it with a black RIT after the "Wine" color.
It'll give you a much richer base under the shellac.
Otherwise it'll be RED as shit (like this)
Which I guess if that's what you're going for, will work out just fine.

An Iodine and ruby shellac mix is one of the easiest ways.
Pine tar and amber shellac is another I've seen work with pretty good results.

By all means, do your thing, but I just pour some water down mine to get the corrosive salts out and then set it in the sun for a bit to dry. Never really got the point of making it squeaky clean.
>>

I do the same with mine, the squeaky clean deal I mean. Got that rifle ocd bad. Even brake out small polymer picks to get the tiny nooks and crannies. But I really enjoy cleaning and learning about my rifle to too so that's part of it.

I don't even use water when cleaning corrosive ammo, easier and more reliable to just clean normally if I don't want rust.

Last time I went shooting I brought my SLR104 with my Obzor, and I had to explain to like three people what it was after they saw it and were blown away by how ugly and unusual it is. The rangemaster is an old guy who is really into IDPA and three gun and he really liked it after I let him shoot it. He wasn't too big on the chin weld but he liked how quick he could aquire targets with it and really liked the reticle for shooting fast like he would in three gun.

One of my favorite things about the optic is how many times people have come and asked me what the hell this ugly thing is

Does anyone else have a large number of mags with shit carved into the, in moon runes? Have an interesting story/blog post involving them...

I have an old Byelorussian couple that lives down the street from me. I'd wanted to engage with them as I'm part Byelorussian and have no one to speak the little bits of it and Russian I know. I took a bottle of Tito's and my box of mags with me and knocked on the door. I was invited in by the wife, old man was sitting watching TV. Dude didn't bother to even look at me until I said I had some AK mags, he showed a little interest in that. I set the box down and the first one he pulls out has CYKA carved into it, he just shakes his head and says "you know what that means, durak". They ended up asking me to stay for dinner and as I was leaving the old man asked me if I'd come back over tomorrow, said he needed some help with a ceiling fan.

I go over the next day and help the old man out, his wife was had gotten a ride into town to the community center for a knitting group. After we finish he offers me a beer and says he'd like to show me something. He takes me into his office/study, walls are lined with old Soviet pictures/militaria. Can tell I'm hugely interested, let's me gaze for a minute or so then proudly hands me a picture. Dude was a senior sergeant in the VDV and fought in Afghanistan.

That was last weekend and I'm taking the guy shooting this next Saturday.

I want to believe you. So I do.

Very cool, my friend.

My landlord's a Boston Irish guy who moved out here. He's got a mail-order Romanian wife. Her mother just came over from old country to live with them. I don't have any guns at that apartment, but I've got my Romy donkey dick I'm refinishing, and I can't help but wonder if they'd recognize it.

Ordered a dozen Romy BFPU magazines recently too. I'm hoping they have some markings, though I can't imagine ever knocking on my neighbor's door with a box of magazines in my arms.

If you're doing layaway it's not "financing". You put down a deposit and pay the remainder off at a latter date, there is now interest. It's much like building an AR and buying parts as your budget permits.

Romanian if you can find them. You can fully load them, then press the button on the inside to release the spring pressure, allowing you to store it indefinitely with no worries of damaging the spring. Just have to give the key about five winds or so, and your gtg.

Might have to clear the gun, then get over person to hold the rifle while you tug on the stock to get it loose. Sometimes they are very tight fitting. Could also try to put a screwdriver into the little gap at the back of the trunnion inside the rifle and pry it loose a bit, just don't do it too hard.

So I was at a garage sale today and stumbled upon what I think may be an awesome find. I got what appears to be an 86' Tula krink parts kit for $50. It appears to have all the parts (matching SN, too) it would come with and the markings are Tula.

I imagine this is pretty much a steal. What am I looking at spending (excluding cuck stamp) to have this thing put together? I imagine the barrel is going to be the hard part (twist rate?), suggestions?

I just bought a Intrac import Maadi ARM for $920 a few weeks back (NO RAGRETS) and I've already had people bitching and moaning to me about how 20 years ago it only cost a couple hundred bucks and I'm an idiot for paying that much. This is how imported guns work and there's always going to be a bunch of people who will complain about it. Hell my Chinese AK was bought NIB with extras for $350 in the mid 80s, and now I've seen the exact same model gun imported by the exact same importer in worse shape than mine sell for $1600 to $1800. Guns that aren't imported anymore always go up in price. The same people who bitch about AKs being expensive when they used to only cost $200 are the same people who have no problem spending $3000 on preban HK rifles because "well they're collectible and HK, not some crappy AK.

I second what that anon said about how much you could get for it. After buying mine I've seen three or four more Maadis (with fixed stock and not a folder though) sell online for $800 and up.

It's not a bad stock. I prefer the wire stock of it and my vz to my triangle stock. The triangle stock is more comfy when shooting but the crutch and vz stock both deploy much faster and are more practical folding stocks. Underfolders are neat too but sidefolding wire stocks are generally more comfy and easier to deploy than any underfolder I've used.

I unironically like folding stocks on AKs. They have a cool utilitarian look and feel about them and they are just super handy. Fixed stocks are more comfy but folders are just cooler.

>>31503630
Actually the Egyptians first had East German folding stocks and when they started to produce their own they came up with the crutch. They're nearly identical minus the shape of the stock.

>>
>>31505366
For the components that could be damaged by pressure from the spring.

I'm not entirely sure how it works for rear-loaders, but top-loading drums can pretty much be loaded and stored indefinitely as long as it won't rust in your environment.

If it has a way of releasing the spring without spewing rounds, I assume it's more complex than just a spring winding and storing the pressure and likely to have parts that could fail after long term storage, but that's just a guess. Regardless, top loaders>>>>>rear loaders

Hear, hear.
Thinking about a good "truck gun", and was entertaining some options including a PAP M92, SU-16C, and an actual krink clone
>>
>>31505835
Side rail is top-tier for mounting optics on AK rifles. IMO the gas tube options less than ideal.
>heat
>weight closer to muzzle causes more fatigue
Also, exposed rails are ugly.
>>
>>31505938
you make a good point, for a khyber build would i need the donkey dick? i just liked weird distress the guy had on the receiver of the original pic desu
>>
>>31505997
Not necessarily. You don't need a triangle folder either, just gotta have honest wear and bling. Key word being honest.

My Khyber build will have a dong and paki tape basically. Might put velvet tassels on the cleaning rod and put together a flashy sling.
>>
>>31506058
yeah, i guess it wouldn't matter as long as i'm not going after an actual clone one.

would it be worth dishing out the money for a decent scope+side mount for a WASR though?
>>
>>31506076
Not unless you had another rifle to put it on. There aren't many optics which would look right on a Khyber. PGO perhaps. Anything in the silver hammer finish (PSO, etc.) would probably be passable.
>>
>>31506184
since im not going with an actual khyber build and more of an inspired one I might just get some PA scope and put it on it. biggest problem im seeing at the moment is finding some good wood for it, i guess in time i will find some for a good price

Hey anyone had any experiences with interstate arms imports? There's an ak with an oval 386 and it says made in China. Just wondering if the 760 price tag is worth it
>>
>>31506459
If it is as you say, then you are looking at a Polytech. Those are some of the most desirable AK rifles.
Look it over and do your homework to be sure. Some importers do weird things when the rifles come stateside, it's probably somewhere on the spectrum of neutered (sporting purpose, etc.), and look out for any user modifications which may also devalue it.
>>

Yeah, a good rule of thumb for your first AK is 7.62 and 16".
You can go against the grain, but unless you really know what you're getting into, this will be the AK you probably want.
>>
>>31507264
Alright thanks, any way to tell the difference between a milled and stamped receiver on a poly? Also will post pics from pawn shop tomorrow after work
>>
>>31507299
Milled will have a wide rectangular lightening cut just above where the magazine goes. Milled will have a small ovular dimple (about the width of a quarter) around the same area. It's more likely that it will be stamped.
>>
>>31507335
