Is there any reason at all to go with 6.8 SPC over 5.56?
>>

Hunting restrictions, and overall fun factor.

6.8 hits pretty hard, but there are many other wildcat cartridges to choose from now that far outperform it.

6.8 does more that punch a neat clean hoke through your target.

6.8 doesn't do anything differently from 5.56 at its intended operating range. The only difference is maximum projectile mass and achievable lethal distance.

6.8SPC vs 6.5G vs 5.56 Mk 262?
>>
>>31481502
are you hunting and shooting from a long range often?
>>
>>31481528
I don't really hunt, but I do want long range accuracy and outstanding terminal ballistics at CQB range.
>>
>>31481557
Do you want long range terminal ballistics or just accuracy?
>>
>>31481580
terminal ballistics is my number one concern.
>>
>>31481557
6.5g is often compared to 7.62x51, consider that if you intend to do long range shooting while using the ar15 lower as a base.

The 6.8 is better, technically for cqb, but how often do you intend to shoot cqb? Are you a professional who needs this kind of round or just a shitter who will post pictures every day?

does an AR lower's quality matter?

I want to build an AR, but I'm not able to buy a lower since im not 21.

I'm thinking about buying the cheapest AR I can find on Armslist, and swapping almost every part.

I would build an 80% but I dont have a decent drill press nor a decent router.

A forged lower is pretty much standard across the board. You're only paying for roll marks. Andersons are fine for any AR build unless you just want it to be Gucci.

Billet lowers are manufactured differently, tend to look nicer to some degree, and may have different functionality, but are more expensive.

TL;DR - buy the all forged lowers are the same. Buy the roll mark you like.

I have one that I took off because it kept coming undone and after a while you could wobble it around even though it was at tight as I could get it. The part that clamps down had deformed. I didn't know rock river made one though, I'm going to get that for my pistol build.
>>
>>31483421
As long as it's in spec blemishes don't matter. It will have plenty of blemishes after a couple carbine courses or whatever.
>>
>>31482992
What handguard is this?
Also, on that note. I'm building an AR pistol and want round / minimal handguard like that but all I can find are railed ones or ones with mlock or shelving holes all over it.
What are some good plain round handguards that aren't magpul for a sbr / pistol sized AR?

"What is it like to fire an AR-15? It’s horrifying, menacing and very very loud.

It felt to me like a bazooka — and sounded like a cannon.

But mostly, I was just terrified.

Squeeze lightly on the trigger and the resulting explosion of firepower is humbling and deafening (even with ear protection).

The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don't know what you're doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable."

I bought a stripped lower for my build. It's the best!

Seriously though, the lower for the rear pin, is narrower than it's supposed to be (according to milspec) by design. You have to tap it in with a mallet the first time, the upper into the lower that is. After that first time it's a perfect snug fit that goes easily into place and doesn't rattle.. forever.
I also bought an Anderson lower and that build rattled from the start. My RRA is years old with lots of range trips and it doesn't rattle at all.

Rock River Arms is great in my book.

OK so tested out my 10.5" with Aero barrel that had the 0.080" gas port. The Crane O-Ring fixed my extraction issues 100% even on my H2 buffer. It seems to run fine on my H3 buffer so I guess Aero likes to put out overgassed to shit barrels and I'll just leave it at that for the buffer. Haven't tried any shitty underpowered wolf though.

Now I'm used to white glove inspections on military issue guns. In all practicality does scraping off the carbon off of the back of the bolt and inside the carrier matter to any relevant degree? Also is there any benefit at all to a one piece gas ring like the Mk 18 uses? I'm thinking if they started using O-rings that helped extraction there might be something to those one piece gas rings.

Its not bad, i honestly like the magpie stuff because its lightweight and im using this rifle for HD and running practical rifle courses so its kind of nice nut lugging around a 17lb fullsteel ar when trying to move tight corners, swap shoulders and push for time. Which is why i choose that MOE stock.. so in that its a solid 8/10

Its downfall is if i hold the receiver in one hand i can shake the stock left and right about 3mm in each direction... thats really the only time you notice it, its fine when shouldered.

The 5200's are the better choice if you're putting them on Pelican cases, especially if they're the older 6-pin models, key-retaining models. If they're not already it might be a good idea to get them keyed-alike while you're at the locksmith's. Then you don't have to fuck with multiple keys. Oh and make sure they have anti-bypass shims installed. They should if they've been serviced before.

If you ever want to buy new Commando Lock Peacemaker series with the boron alloy shackles are pretty good for the price.

Nothing wrong with surplus American locks though. I found this model 700 laying in the parking lot at work last week. Probably came off of a Verizon truck. It dates to 2004 and was all gummed up with rust and crud. I tore it apart, hosed it down with WD-40 and installed a new lock core and is about good as new. Only other thing it could use is a key-retaining actuator.

Minimum wage poorfag reporting in

Just how bad are cheap AR's? I'm not talking about pre-builts, I mean like PSA uppers on 80 percent lowers.

What parts should I try not to skimp on if I can avoid it? The barrel? The bolt?

I'm lost honestly, I know that Oracle makes kind of shitty AR's and that Daniel Defense and BCM make dank AR's but surely there's something in between.
>>
>>31485183
A full PSA build is fine as long as you stay away from the PTAC stuff.

Unless you already have a decent drill press and bits don't bother with the 80%. It wont come out any cheaper if you have to buy the lower, jig, and tooling.

They can be pretty good.

Don't cheap out on the barrel or the trigger, those are the only things that significantly affect accuracy.

There are some VERY VERY accurate barrels in the </=$150 range, and if you're poor enough to worry about the cost of a barrel you're too poor to ever shoot one out so there's no reason to go for chrome lining.

Also, rev up that inner Semite and start hunting deals on the used/trade market.

This dude basically says that the American 1100 series and the Commando locks are no different in terms of picking difficulty....

I'm not worried about someone snipping my locks with bolt cutters, because with Pelican cases it's far more effective to just snip off the little shackle holes.

I'll stick with the 1205s for now, I got three with all matching keysets for 30$

Has anyone tried the Windham .308 rifles? Their 16" is awfully tempting in it's price point.

Degrease everything with brākleen and then lube all components with Lucas Oil Extreme Duty gun oil and then grease the buffer with EWG

And get a basic USGI cleaning kit or a MS kit
>>
>>31486074
>cleaning rod
>patch jag
>big fucking bag of patches
>copper solvent
>lubricating oil

Whether you buy a one-piece or multi-piece rod is up to you, but a bore snake is insufficient.

A bronze bristle bore brush is nice to have but not necessary, especially if you clean your rifle more than once a decade. likewise, a 1-piece rod is nice to have because it's stiffer and won't come unscrewed in the middle, but isn't necessary.

As for what I personally use:
>Possum Hollow 1-piece rod
>Lyman multi-caliber brass jag pack (every caliber from .17-.45 plus 28ga, 20ga, and 12ga, it's like $12 on amazon)
>Lyman multi-caliber phosphor-bronze brush pack (same as jag pack), was $10 on amazon
>Birchwood Casey 12ga patches (cut into quarters for .22cal)
>Hoppe's #9 copper remover
>Shooter's Choice FP10 CLP

What's your guys thoughts on using a Sig MPX sbr suppressed for home defense as opposed to an AR?

>inb4 lol 9mm

I may pick up the 40sw conversion kit.
>>
>>31486127
Don't get a MPX untill a .357sig/45ACP/10mm option is released

Even then id take my AR

Inferior in every conceivable way to an SBR/suppressed AR in [any of the actual rifle calibers that'll fit in an AR]

If you're the same faggot that's been asking us to compare the MPX to an AR for pretty much every single /arg/ for the last 11 days, fucking kill yourself. We tell you the MPX is objectively inferior to an AR every. single. fucking. time. yet you keep asking.

Any recommendations for Mlok covers?

Considering swapping out my Keyhole rail for an Mlock version. Going on an 18" barrel. Any suggestions?

Get rid of MLOK and then get BCMs rail covers

If you had just kys already that wouldn't have happened.
>>
>>31486149
First time asking. I have a high quality AR already, I just want a compact package that works well suppressed and is cheap to practice with. If I can reload the caliber for less then 25-30 cents I don't have a problem with cost. I also worry about penetration through walls (have kids). I'm guessing 300 blackout is a solid choice?

So very informative, thanks for taking time out of your day for that answer.

Well, I'm not going to get rid of my Geissele MK8 rail for my SBR and swap out another Mlok rail on another AR so yeah, besides I like Mlok better and if you have a problem with that kys dude.

300 Blackout is great for suppressed use but it's expensive. I'm paying around $0.75 per round for target ammo

And they all smell like shit compared to pipe or some cigars.

Really though, you're comparing sniffing cat turds to dog turds to goat turds to pig turds. It's all turds. Real men inject heroin.

Remember, with heroin you put your inner hero in.

>if I can reload the caliber for less than 25-30 cents
You can buy factory-new 9mm or 5.56 for 30cpr. Cheapest I can reload 9mm for is around 8cpr (with commercial cast bullets), cheapest I can reload 5.56 for is around 10cpr (commercial new-manufacture 55gr FMJBT).

9mm penetrates more layers of drywall than 5.56 55gr FMJ or any of the <70gr ballistic tips, there's a reason why entry teams have gotten away from pistol-caliber weapons. Any commercially available .300blk load is going to truck right through anything in your house, and you'd have to go to one of the custom, ultralight frangible bullets to get it not to (and those have...questionable...terminal performance).

The long story short is any caliber/load/bullet that won't reliably penetrate a single interior wall at HD distances won't reliably penetrate deep enough into a person to incapacitate him. Watch where the fuck you're shooting.

As for suppression, subsonic .300blk through a good .30cal can (on an 8.5" barrel or longer) will be quieter than subsonic 9mm through a good 9mm can (on an equal length barrel). 5.56 will not be hearing-safe on any length barrel as long as you're still using supersonic ammo (which you'll have to if you want the gun to cycle). The big caveat to this is a good .30cal can is (significantly) more expensive than a good 9mm can, but has the counterpoint of being able to be used on pretty much any other rifle .300wm and down.

Use a tripod and do your best to control your lighting 100%, block out all light you don't create to get the best contrast with the black background. Light from the side and try to keep your exposures less than 1/4 sec to avoid too much smudgy fog. Hope that helps
