So far it feels alright, but I've only done one day of shooting, nothing too mobile or intensive.

I'm using the BCM 14.5 Enhanced Light-Weight-Fluted Barrel and their KMR: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Standard-14-5-Mid-Length-ENHANCED-Light-Weig-p/bcm-urg-mid-14elwf-kmr-a-13.htm

Not only is it light, but the barrel is tapered so that a lot of the weight is closer to the mag.
>>
I feel like I am developing a weird fetish for component wear, like I just want to run a lot of rounds through one gun so I can observe the insides getting blasted full of all kinds of carbon and character.

Anyone else feel this way? It's beginning to become my favorite aspect of shooting, but I feel like its a bit eccentric.

Is there any real problem with a pencil barrel? I'm planning on getting a 14.5 inch barrel, used for shooting at a max distance of 500 yards, with most of my shots at less than 100.
>>
>>31474679
>at least he didn't succumb to venereal disease, I guess
That would've required him to have actually nailed any of the trashy sluts he took pictures of.

And we all know that never happened.

>>31474710
Rapid fire=vertical stringing with thin barrels.

The loss of weight can, in certain setups, lead to more felt recoil and muzzle climb. However this can be countered with an aggressive muzzle brake.

Generally speaking unless you're building a dedicated precision rifle or have a registered, transferrable select-fire lower (with an auto position, not just burst) a lightweight barrel has more pro's than con's
>>
>>31474710
They heat up faster but also cool faster. Your groups may open up when the barrel gets hot.
>>
>>31474728
will a putting a suppressor on a pencil barrel change the POI more than putting one on a standard barrel?
>>
>>31474744
yes and looks uggo, like your gun doesnt lift and has spaghetti arms
>>
>>31474744
Yes, though minorly (possibly insignificantly for anything other than shooting for group) as long as the barrel stays somewhat cool. However it will exacerbate vertical stringing on a hot barrel.

It also tends to look dumb AF, and >>31474755
said it quite well.

>>
What's the best barrel for a 14.5 general fighting/ SHTF gun?
>>
>>31474829

LaRue doesn't into 18" with Rifle gas port and that's a bit of a downer. But yeah, I'd looked at the PredatAR 18" but I don't hold LaRue in any particular regard above the myriad of other makers, tho I lusted after the Stealth upper for a long while.
>>
>>31474808
Ya dun pretty good. They're accurate barrels and I like the Gunner profile.

>>31474863
If you plan to do more carrying than shooting, probably a BA Hanson. If you intend to do more shooting than carrying, probably an FN CL/CHF SOCOM-profile.

My Faxon barrel is literally my favorite barrel. If I buy another (unlikely, since I already have enough, bordering on too many) it'll probably be that one.
>>
>>31474885
I've got a special-run 10.3" barrel from Faxon, shoots great.

I'm seriously tempted to put a good magnified optic on that AR pistol to see just how accurate the barrel can be.
>local tactical training center ordered 5000, 10.3"/1:8 Faxon barrels in a modified gunner profile for some reason

Right now of the carbon steel commercially available barrels I'd rank them as BA>Faxon>FN>--------->PSA premium and the only reason BA gets the nod over Faxon is the wider range of good profiles they offer.
>>

Stock: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/3022119912/mission-first-tactical-battlelink-minimalist-stock-collapsible-ar-15-lr-308-polymer

Upper w/ BCM BCG and Mod 3 charging handle: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Standard-14-5-Mid-Length-ENHANCED-Light-Weig-p/bcm-urg-mid-14elwf-kmr-a-13.htm

handstop: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCMGUNFIGHTER-KAG-KeyMod-Black-p/bcm-kag-km-blk.htm

backup sights: http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/sights/sight-sets/ar-15-m16-mbus-pro-sight-set-prod58167.aspx

All that should put you around 1500. You can save a ton of cash if you get a generic lower, too.
>>
>>31475111
Here's what I'd do:
>barrel
BA Hanson 14.5" Midlength performance series ($220)
>handguard
Geissele mk8 13" mlok ($250)
>upper receiver
Aero Precision milspec stripped upper ($70)
>lower receiver
Aero Precison milspec stripped lower ($70)
>UPK
literally doesn't matter, should be ~$25-30
>LPK
CMC lower assembly kit (no trigger/grip) ($45)
>trigger
Either Geissele SD-E ($230) or Larue MBT ($125). I prefer the SD-E but the Larue is a decent trigger for a good price.
>grip
Magpul K2+ ($25)
>BCG
Cryptic Mystic Black ($275)
>buffer tube/assembly
BCM carbine buffer tube kit (includes QD sling socket endplate, castle nut, H1 buffer, and milspec buffer spring), $35-40
>stock
Either B5 Enhanced (~$80) or Magpul ACS-L (~$90)
>BUIS
Magpul MBUS Pro set (~$140)
>muzzle device
[free space, highly personal preference, you still have room in your budget]

That puts you at $1365-$1485 with your choice of MD yet, because MD's are highly personal preference. And that gives you a shitpot full of high end/gucci/premium parts that aren't really necessary but are really really nice.

This debate man. I can't believe Hillary is seriously being considered for presidency.

She was responsible for the deaths of 4 Americans for fucks sake.
It was her job as Secretary of State to provide security for all American officials abroad. She "delegated security to the professionals" which isn't even allowed. It was her responsibility no matter how hard she pushes the blame! FUCK THAT SHIT.
And the "professionals" that she wrongfully delegated her job to, denied the Ambassador's request for additional security knowing that the situation was worsening and becoming more dangerous for American officials.

>>
>>31475415
Then you don't want a trigger that suits your rifle. With a single stage, you have to choose between safety or trigger weight. Two stages don't have that issue. Considering that this is an SBR, a single stage doesn't really have any advantages over a two stage.

pistons don't make the AR any more reliable. The only thing they do is make it a bit easier to clean.
Those 500 buck piston systems will have extreme carrier tilt issues. Even the hk416 system has problems with buffer tube wear and carrier tilt, it's just marginalized by good engineering.
>>
>>31480307
What the fuck is this shit?

I thought the piston AR meme died a long time ago? What's with the resurgence lately?
>>
>>31480307
Modern AR's are not jamtastic turds and when will this meme, and AK's being inaccurate meme die.
>>
>>31480307
no AR has ever been a jamtastic turd, even the early ones in Vietnam. They were fucked by the ammo given to them and shitty training. If you lube an ARs BCG rails, it'll keep running fro thousands of rounds.
>>
>>31480338

>He's never seen 2003 vintage 16" bbl, rifle gassed model 1 sales uppers
>>
>>31480357
But Aks are innaccurate
>>
>>31480359
It wasn't the ammo that caused the jams in the M16 in vietnam, it was shitty cleaning and not understanding how the gun worked
>>
>>31480378
Yeah the M16 was a jamtastic turd, but the A1 remedied most of the issues, and so did the A2, now the A4, and M4 are fine.
>>
>>31480418
No its not, its because the ar15 is a DI that shits where it eats.
>>
>>31480378
they jammed because of the ammo and not being lubed, not an inherent flaw in the design. The bending barrels happened extremely rarely, and stocks breaking never happened.
>>
If you're gonna think about wasting the money on a piston AR then just buy a SCAR-L. SCAR's are better rifles than any AR15 anyways

Purge yourself of all rifle memes about guns that you ever had growing up.

The AR is actually a fantastic rifle that only asks for a little oil to last THOUSANDS of rounds between cleanings. The AK is actually pretty damn accurate considering it's design, and isn't "impervious to jamming", especially due to the open unsealed nature of its action. The Chauchat was a pretty reliable rifle in 8mm Lebel. And piston AR's aren't automatically better than DI ARs.
