So, if I enlist in the Marines, is there a minimum rank I must achieve or minimum time served before I can try to get commissioned as an officer? I know there's a minimum amount of time, but I'm unsure how long.
>>
>>31019612

No on both accounts. You don't need to enlist to commission, you need a degree or you need to join a program that will get you one and then give you a commission.
>>
>>31019693
I understand that, I'm just saying if I enlist, and with a degree, what would I need to do to get commissioned? How many years or what what rank would i need to have, if at all?

Also, is it something that regularly happens in the Marines, or is it at all likely to happen if I pursue that route to becoming and officer? Or am i better off risking getting an MOS I don't want and just going directly to OCS?
>>
Would rifleman in the ADF be the best job to see combat?
>>
>>31019772
You'll go to Iraq for training the retarded Iraqi army best case scenario. I'd choose one of the cavalry roles over infantry, get into the pmv or aslav also we are getting new armored vehicles soon too that look sick to crew
>>
Anyone gone through officer training in the Canadian Forces? I'm supposed to write the CFAT on the 30th, and I'm wondering what I should expect from training.
>>
>>31019740
You don't need either of those things. You're as qualified to be an officer as you will ever be.

"Enlist and go officer later" is a meme. You absolutely can do it, but if you already have your degree it gets you nothing.
>>
>>31020145
Not even that I'll get the MOS I want? Because that's all that's really stopping me from just going straight to OCS. Don't want to get stuck in logistics or something I dont want for 4 years or more.

>>
>>31020422
Because of previous experience and a desire to put you in an area of expertise you have some experience in?

>>31020446

For officers? It's going to matter quite a bit for O1 and somewhat for O2. Beyond that? Not it's just the flavor of paperwork you're doing.
>>
>>31020468

Anon, nobody is going to give a fuck that you were enlisted for like six months when it comes to where you're going to go as an officer. They're still going to give the guy who actually tried in college first pick at officer MOSs.

Trained to be Army Rangers, duh!

Different jobs require different skills. I know your point and I agree. Trained for what? Their jobs - which are different. I know what you were getting at.

Why would anyone send a Green Beret to demolish the hull of a ship when you have frog men at your disposal? Why would you send PJs to conduct a STANO when you have Force Recon? Why would you send ANGLICO to do a raid when you have Rangers?

Different titles, different jobs, different skills.

lets try this again. I am an OCS candidate I am aware of the branching procedure, I wish to be a LEO (local department or state trooper) when I am done with the 3 year service obligation. what branch will best help me to land a job with said a local department. for me it is between MP and Intel (I know Intel is long shot).
next question I will only incur a 3 year service obligation correct? I have no intention of going to grad school and am aware that BOLC training treated as concurrent. I intend to transfer to reserves afterwards in my home state .

Good chance you go to work for an intelligence agency in a giant government facility, processing intelligence in a strategic billet.

Small chance (if you have the PT scores for it) you get Airborne and directly support coolguys deploying all over the world.

Medium chance you end up somewhere in the middle, supporting a line unit that isn't doing shit right now, and jerking off in the corner for your entire career.
>>
>>31030191
Thanks
On a side note, when a 35N position was available and I had it reserved, on my contract it had airborne training on it, in Florida or somewhere else where I would go after basic. Is that what normal?
>>
>>31030354
Let me correct that statement: When I had the position reserved, it said that I would also, as a requirement, need to do the airborne training, but that disappeared from the system when I was negotiating my contract. Is that normal?
>>
>>31030388
BOi I think you just lost the best part of your contract. I enlist in January and won't leave until I get airborne in writing
>>
>>31030608

Really depends on what you want. I've been offered Airborne half a dozen times in my career and turned it down. It won't help me go where I want to go, and I'd rather not have the knee damage.

I am planning on applying to the naval and airforce academy next year. I would like to become a naval aviator or airforce pilot, although i am also interested in enlisting in the EOD (which, correct me if im wrong, both the airforce and navy have). I would like to know: could i first become a pilot (through the naval academy), fly until i can no longer fly, and then become part of EOD. Also, i wonder, will going to the usafa or usnaa affect my chances of becoming a pilot? Is it really as difficult as i am told? I am fluent in multiple languages, will that help my chances to join the academies. Thank-you for your time.
>>
>>31030656

Good luck with that. I have zero POG shame. I've had an awesome career mostly behind a desk and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
>>
>>31030711

>could i first become a pilot (through the naval academy), fly until i can no longer fly, and then become part of EOD

Pilots often fly well into their 40s, there's no way you're transfering into something like EOD at that point. You would be broke the fuck off.

If you "fly until you can no longer fly", you're going to retire as a pilot and live out your days on a pension.
>>
>>31019772
Try for commandos, then you'll definitely see combat
>>
>>31030712
I would still shake your hand but I wouldn't congratulate you on your decisions.

You were handed the opportunity to attended BAC and turned it down. That's a cowardly way to conduct yourself..
>>
>>31030790

I've been offered a lot more hooah schools than that. When you're in a low-density MOS with an in-demand skillset, it's fairly easy to get slots for coolguy training. This is both because SOF units need competent support, and because most support guys have no interest in doing "tactical" training like Airborne, Air Assault, Ranger school, etc.

Airborne school, in 2016, is frankly a waste of time for the vast majority of personnel who attend it. It's cheap uniform candy, but largely mission irrelevant.
>>
>>31030711
If by affect your chances you mean guarantee that you become a pilot as long as you're healthy, then yes. Pretty much anyone that wants a pilot slot will get a pilot slot.

You better have STELLAR grades, be a team captain, and have good extracurriculars or you're not going to get accepted to the academies.
>>
>>31030730
I thought the maximum age that you could be a naval aviator at was 26. Regardless, if i manage to join the naval academy, would i have more chances to become a pilot than i would in the airforce academy (which is easier to get into).
>>
>>31030850
max age to join from OCS is 27 or 26 i forget and start API. Not the max age to fly

As a lateral entry cadet you can commission in ad early as two years. Assuming you do everything right. You will have little time to focus on anything else and your debt may still be there. I'm in a few clubs pertaining to economics and politics and I'm an officer in one of them. I've also TAed for some economics classes. I'm going to be a junior this year so I don't have any internships yet, but I'm planning on internning this summer. I don't really have any recommendation letters and I'm not sure where I'd get anything like that.
>>
How fucked am I? Two years ago I was disqualified from the Air Forcefor ADHD although i hadnt taken meds for six years. I couldnt prove that i stopped taking the meds because I hadnt seen a doctor in those six years. I never made it to MEPS. I recently finished my bachelors degree and started the process with the Coast Guard. I told them i had no health problems. I finished my ASVAB with high scores and looking forward to finally doing my dream of military service. Am I going to be fucked over by my past trying to do Air Force? Im just worried that I am royally screwed. Any advice?
>>
>>31038250
lie and cross your fingers. If you didn't go top meps, the recruiter might have not bothered to even put your paperwork through.

Just don't be a pussy later on and try to confess thinking they will look good on it. They will boot your ass out.

Good luck.
>>
>>31037874
If you are still in school and want to be intel you should do ROTC.
>>
>>31038675
I'm pretty sure as a junior it's too late isn't it?
>>
>>31037874
You could always try for Navy OCS, they took a lot more civilians than priors in the last board for intel and IW and IP

My rec letters were from professors and employers but I've seen people with former Os and especially Intel officers look like a plus. You do need 3 intel interviews with intel officers if you want to apply to the intel designator.
>>
>>31038720
If I applied for intel and didn't make it, would I still be obligated to continue forward? If I did end up doing OCS I'd want to try to get a job at a thinktank sort of thing after my contract is up and I think working in intel would be a lot more beneficial than working in something like logistics.
>>
>>31038755
No navy you apply to specific designators. If you don't get intel, you're not going OCS. You need to go to OCS accepted into a designator already
The Lt from generation kill ended up working at a think tank and that dude was infantry.
>>
>>31038662

Thanks, anon.just extremelly worried.
>>
>>31038902
Did you get a written paper about being disqualified or did the recruiter just tell you that you would get disqualified if you couldn't get a paper from the doctor? Because if there's nothing in writing but just something that was in a conversation you had then you should be safe since that's not on record. Hope you make it.
>>
>>31039115

I signed paperwork and sent for my old records. He didnt show me i was disqualified but told me. So im not 100 percent. Thoughts?
>>
>>31039186
Not sure. For now just hope that he saw something that would disqualify you and decided to end it there. So there's a good chance it didn't end up on the record since you never went to MEPS.

The fact you didn't get anything in writing is a good thing, less likely to be on any record. Just play it cool and hope for the best. If they pull any of the "we know you've been hiding something from us" routine then don't crack and admit to anything. They're just trying to rattle you. If they already know then you'll be disqualified regardless. If you lie and don't get caught then you can get in.
>>
>>31019277
No, 11x contract might get you one when you speak to the Rangr liason NCO at airborne school. It also works vice versa, if you want to get airborne contract/unit station just get a ranger contract and drop it at airborne school.

They apply for it. Chances will come up and be announced within your respective unit.

On the Air Force side, for instance, if anyone wants to do a pre-ranger course to be selected to go to the actual Ranger course, they first have to do a pre-pre-ranger course that is hosted by the UDM, usually.

>Dirty, Terrifying experience
Back in WWII you had naked sweaty men. Even Gato classes back then had air conditioning (but still hot as fuck in PAC waters), clothes washers & dryers

I only ride fast attacks, cause fuck '3 knots to nowhere' boomerfags. Modern submarines like 688's (hah) and Virginias are clean as a whistle for the most part, cause every watch section every 6 or 8 hours have to do a post watch clean up. I cleaned the crews mess a lot and gotten to eat the leftovers after sweeping and scrubbing the deck for 30 minutes.

You can do quick showers everyday if you really want, people aren't really keeping tabs on this, but showers, clothes washer and dryer might get secured for an extended period of time depending on the mission and the skipper. I usually just shower every other day cause submarine life is pretty sedentary, and being me, I didn't want to work out cause I wanted more time to work on my submarine qualification which if you didn't know, if you don't know about submarine operations or how they work and how to report and fight casualties people will look down on you cause you aren't capable of saving the boat in case of some SHTF situation. You're a sub-human non useful body (nub) til you get qualified submarines which could be a 6+ month ordeal.

Other than that, it's fucking coo'

Also, a Seoul to Tokyo plane ticket is about $300, so you can go every 4 day weekend if you want.

Then re-enlist for Zama.

You need to do some reading on your own yo find out about intel and the branch youd rather join and then from that point ask some specific questions. I just don't know what source i should trust. I'm a non-white, so for what i hear i will not be well accepted in the Azov Battalion. Also i don't speak any slavic language, so most of the militias are not an option.

Hey guys,

Is there a polygraph required for an Army Intel enlistment? Ive read conflicting things believe it or not, and just want some real life knowledge, if you have it.

Also, what's the day-to-day like for a 35F mos? I know it's not terribly exciting, but the more I train for a Ranger or SF enlistment the more my body seems to tell me "come on dude, you want to be in a wheelchair at 35?". Prior low level back injury at 14, and both knees kinda funky around a year ago. I'm 26, running and lifting everyday. Halp guise

>>31055442
It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable

That motto always has resonated with me, but I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't concerned with my knees and back. I haven't stopped training, but I am trying to be as cautious as possible.

Are you saying fuck Intel go Ranger/SF or just shitposting?

Should I get prk done before enlisting? Money's not an issue. I just think it'd be a good idea to have functioning eyes before I go to boot.

I honestly think something is fucked up with 4chan and IPs atm. Ive been getting randomly banned for making posts on boards i dont even go on and they are from the past. I got a notice today saying i was banned from /co/, which ive literally never even been on, and it was from august 11-12th. Makes no fucking sense. Went away as soon as i click it though and its happened a few times over the past couple days.

Its not that bad here. Be prepared for heat, humidity, and drink water as much as possible.

Is going from nothing to commando worth trying? I've heard the whole program was just a meme and most of them were actually transfers from other roles, but i'm not too sure how reliable that info is.

Depends on how bad your unit needs you riding a desk. There are absolutely desk jockies that are vital enough at that spot that the fight will go way up the chain (GO v. GO) and the SOF unit will lose.

But for 95% of support guys? Your unit will probably release you pretty quick if you want to do some sort of SOF/SMU stuff.

>AIT
>Implying im not CTI
>>
>>31055442

No MOS requires a polygraph *at enlistment*. Several require a polygraph to actually do any sort of real work at all, which means you'll get one sometime during training or when you arrive on station at your first unit.
>>
>>31059291
>CTI
If you are im curious, did you get a signing bonus and have you talked to any CTIs who been in a while, wondering what the re-enlistment bonuses are like as well.
>>
>>31059302
10 grand after A school
Reenlist is lit. People go in for minimum then get out to make 6 figures in the civilian world. A bunch of factors play into it. Time served rank etc
>>
Who 525th at Fort Bragg here?
>>
>>31059302
If youre interested there's a CTIC at RTC who you talk to after you pass the DLAB
>>
>>31055990
Same difference, anon. Most people in technical trades would rather go to college in their free time than the gym, and they'd rather have that cushy office life and build civilian skills than be out deployed or in the field. The line between "uninterested" and "incapable" is pretty fuzzy. If you don't want it, you're obviously not going to be able to do it.

>>31056077
15/25/35 series with appropriate ASIs/schools. Probably 17 series too, but I don't know since it is so new. Usually they want a proven track record of you being good at your job, not just that you made it through training.
>>
>>31045630
Not using shaving cream or not shaving? I dry shave on the reg, but in basic that wouldve made me look like fucking meat from mortal kombat.
>>
>>31057620

Talk with your recruiter to make sure it won't delay your ship dates. There's a recovery period.

The military will pay for it though, even if money isn't an issue that's a lot of beer money you're lighting on fire for no reason.

Because free speech. People can wear whatever the fuck they want in America.

He'll only get in trouble if he actually tries to exercise authority as a service member, or if he tries to use the uniform for financial gain.
>>
>>31059354
Man, if fucking movies cant even legally use a real uniform why should those pieces of shit. Impersonating a government employee should be illegal. Cops, DoD, post men, idc just fuck those guys.
>>
>>31059371

Movies can legally use the entirely accurate and complete uniform as much as they want. The idea that they can't is an urban legend, there's absolutely no law or regulation prohibiting it.
>>

>>
>>31059442

Wanna know a secret? 99% of movies are absolute shit at the way they portray every single profession. You just don't know because you've never worked those jobs. You watch a movie and you're like "Yeah, that's probably pretty close to what being an author/bank teller/security guard is like", meanwhile people who have actually worked those jobs are tearing their hair out.

Military movies are no different.

Any armory fags or enlisted that know shit about A4's know how many KAC panels you need to fully cover an M5 handguard

I want to say its two 11 Rib panels for top and bottom and one 11 rib panel and a 5 rib for the sides
>>
>>31055442
you can definitely be an "on the ground" 35f, its just rare.

your polygraph happens in AIT, you're granted interim secret until you pass your polygraph.

>I believe you if you say it and wouldn't mind checking it out but I really don't know anything about their culture/language compared to Japan or Europe.

Korea is like bizzaro Japan. In Japan, there are a lot of rules and everyone follows the rules. In Korea, nobody follows the rules. I just find the culture and people a little bit more "fun" and the food is amazing. Bit more flavorful, and cheap.

>Is it easier to get OCONUS with an intel MOS? Or do combat MOS go too?

There are 0 spots for combat MOS in all of Japan for the Army unless you're special forces.

There are spots in Korea, but it's the terrible places where you aren't allowed to do what you want.

Always be at least 2 chapters ahead on vocabulary. All of the unit tests have some vocab that you don't know, and it's typically from the upcoming unit.

Try not to hate life.
