Should be MSD's AR needs a fresh spray.
If you don't have Bobro or GDI throw your gun in the trash edition
>>31008424
Just do it man the 17 and 19 are the best choices from glocks line imo. The 19 is a great option for conceal carry but it's still a good enough size that it doesn't feel like a purse pistol

I has a question: My lower parts kit has the trigger/hammer pins in it, but they don't match; unlike a lot of images of these pins, which have two notches in them, mine only have one each. One has a notch in the center, and one has a notch near the end. Does it matter which pin goes on which part? It's a pretty generic budget spikes' LPK.
TL;DR My pins look strange, the fuck's wrong with them? Pic related.

>>31009618

I built an A4-ish clone thanks to running into a very cheap in the box KAC rail. It's obviously not going to be the world's most precise rifle but I'm trying to decide on both an optic and a sling set up for it. Sling is pretty easy, been very happy with both the BFG and VTAC slings just need to decide if I want to mount with a adapter or go traditional.
Optic I could use help on. Paying what it's worth is fine but I'm wondering if I should be going ACOG, CompM4, variable 1-4 or 6, or something else. ACOGs I have played with before and I know they are nice, but being a spooky skeleton at 6'3'' and an A2 stock makes eye relief a bit of a concern. Overblown or something to reconsider before dropping cash on a nice piece of glass?
>>31010029

I'll work my way from the stock to the muzzle. This is my honest rate.
Why the MOE stock and not the CTR? It's not that much more and doesn't rattle. Not a huge deal but the CTR is the standard.
Optic. Just so you are aware, AR optics are meant to sit about 2.5 inches above the bore or the "super high" height. The bore is centered the entire length of the rifle and your cheek weld should be comfortable. That doesn't seem like it would be comfortable at all. Last, you should ideally have a one peace mount that's quick detachable, with a set of flip down or fixed back up iron sights. The added height from the scope mount means you won't get a blurred out front sight too.
Reversing to add this: I imagine the castle nut isn't staked.
The rail and barrel length looks goofy. Did you do a needs assessment on your upper anyway? Could you have gone maybe with the plastic hand guards? The slim rails and keymod are equally becoming more popular but spending money on something like that might be wasteful. Also, what brand rail is that?
>>31011313
Do this. Those are KAC covers and nothing about your rifle says KAC.
Sorry if this offends you. I'm not trying to shill you any big name products. I just wonder if a more stock rifle would have served you better. I just think it saves time and money to start with the bare minimum and learn about what you need and don't as you go along.
>>31010344
i want this build what is it
>>31011488
The only "upgrade" would be an updated upper with a mid length gas system and different profile barrel. Maybe a more proven optic? Trijicon, Aimpoint, or EoTech. There's more but I just picked the commons.
Everything seems okay from the outside. I'm not too anal or elitist about simple stuff like this.
>>31011526
>Why the MOE stock and not the CTR? It's not that much more and doesn't rattle. Not a huge deal but the CTR is the standard.
am i the only one who prefers the moe over the ctr? its really easy to take the slop out of a stock with a few layers of tape. its lighter. dont have any qd slings since all my slings predate qd.

If you're building a bench gun, I can understand it kind of so I'm not trying to give you too much shit. But for anything else, it's a meme and there is no aesthetic value to it.
>>31013794
Me in particular, yes it's a bench gun. There is some reasoning to it besides snowflake and aesthetics, but any reason is zeroed out by the loss of universal parts and cost.
>no aesthetic value
That's a personal preference. There's one anon who used the Gibbz upper and an (IIRC) SLR rail and it was the fucking sex.
>>31013805
aren't you cheaping out on the Gibbz upper?
>>31013860
Retail is $250, not sure what ya mean.
>>31013878
I thought at one point you mentioned getting something else, maybe I was wrong.
>>31010318
Surefire makes the best lights period.
>>31013903
I really want an XC1 but I'm just going to wait until they come out with the XC1U or the XC2 and I'm hoping they improve the switches improve the output a bit.
>>31013898
There was another side charger that was very similar for $300, only difference being that the $300 one has space machined for anti rotation tabs and the Gibbz does not
>>31013921
>anti rotation tabs
why bother?
>>31013930
My emr already has it, think I'm just gonna file them off tbhfam
>>31013918
All I have is the e2d defender but I'd love a v1. Not weapon lights but I have a thing for lights haha. I have a couple underwater flashlights a diver friend gave to me. I really dig the defender light though. It's been a part of my edc since I bought it
What are the "proprietary parts" on the ruger ar556 everyone seems to make a big deal about? Is it just the delta ring and the different front sight design? Or is it different internally?
As far as I've heard they're the same quality as an m&p15, so I've got my decision down to those two. Is there any reason to get a PSA over those? I mainly care about quality, not cost, and I'm getting a second hand barrel either way because I want an 18" so the FN barrel isn't a plus.
>>31013754
Considering I got it for $130 I'd definitely say so. For $300, I'd still say it's a pretty good deal.
>>31013805
why haven't you thrown that blemished nonsense into the trash yet?
>>31013991
>>31014010
>>31013993
What's wrong with it?
>>31013984
AFAIK it's only the delta ring assy. and the front sight. Only thing I can thing of not to is the carbine gas. But really its a personal preference. I prefer carbine gas so I went with a PSA.
>>31014067
He just doesn't like it
>>31014010
>>31014074
you're right. i think it's ugly as piss and the uneven finish makes it worse.
did you purposely buy a blemished one?
>>31014155
The finish is uneven over the surface of like 1 square centimeter, so you can take that argument and shove it tbhfam
>>31014177
that have to be the ugliest delta ring I ever saw
>>31014177
>comic sans
>>31014188
There is no delta ring you stupid fuck. Fucking retarded trips.
>>31014177
what argument? it's a blemish, plain and simple.
doesn't matter if it's over most of it or on one square centimeter.
but hey, it's your money. i'd have at least tried to get a replacement imhotbqhfamkys my dude.

The purple thing is the wrench used to install it.

I don't see Bill's name in there anywhere. Bill literally has nothing to do with the company. Hell, I really don't care because I have an ALG trigger in my M4 for the time being until I get around to picking up a SSA, but I'm not trying to pretend like it's the same thing.
Midwest Industries mlok rails, where do they rank out of 10 on the gucci scale
>>31014299
like a 2
>>31014299
Nothing about MI is gucci
light's on. not sure about the placement though
>>31014286
if you take it off what kaeeps the barrel from just falling out if you tip it down?
>>31014335
The handguard screws onto >>31014255 which secures the barrel onto the reciever
>>31014334
Placement is fine for now. Buy tapeswitch and move the light to the other side eventually.
>>31014343
then the purple thing clams is all together right? i only ever saw a delta ring in person spring loded front to e back and holds it all together
>>31014358
Stop calling it a delta ring
>>31014358
Google how a free float handguard works m8
>>31014364
that is the name of the delta ring in front of receiver right that springs in and out and screws on to hold it in place?
>>31014358
No. The barrel nut in>>31014255 threads onto the reciever. when threading on, it holds the barrel to the reciever within it. The handguard screws into the holes you see on the sides. There is no delta ring present on this handgaurd assembly at all and they are not used commonly (at all IIRC) with free float rails
The purple thing is simply there to torque / index the barrel nut, it's just a wrench.

i get thats its not the barre nut but you screw the barrel nut on the receiver stick the barel in and what haolds the barrel in place? it looks ike the purple ring fits in groove on the barrel nut then the handgard clams over it to hold it all together

>>31014408

>>31014386
Im trying. I want a good 20" barrel.
>>31014408
watch a video of the rail installation
>>31014418
>I want a 20" barrel
no you don't
>>31014408
The barrel just slides into the reciever. The barrel nut holds the barrel into place.
The only thing that holds the barrel nut to the reciever is the threads and the ft-lbs applied to it with the purple wrench. Once the barrel is in place and the barrel nut is torqued down, the purple wrench is removed all together.
See pic: how a barrel fits into a upper reciever

Aren't they neat? I've had tons of cool insects hanging out here
>>31014415

>>31014416

>>31014432
>talking barrel here not rail, i know how picatiny rail installs i had a red dot on a pistol before
This has to be b8
>>31014432
The purple nut is machined to fit together with the barrel nut because the purple wrench is how you secure the barrel nut. It's simply a wrench. Once you torque the barrel nut down with the wrench, you remove the wrench from the equation all together.

>gets called a troglodyte

yeah but look at the photo the barrel is barely there it looks like it about to fall off. my guess is the purple thing clamps over that part and holds them both together see photoshop i made to show you concept
>all these people who have never seen tommy before

>>31014462
Tommy, get your cock ring off that barrel.
>>31014462
The barrel nut wrench goes onto the barrel nut bud, not the barrel itself.

but really look at your photo and tell me how that barrel stays on? it is in like less than an inch and has gap between receiver

Hey gang, posted some in the last thread asking you guys for advice on building. Went to my local store and picked up a lower and a generic parts kit to start off with. Now I need recommendations on barrels. I'd like to go 20" barrel, long life, and don't want pencil profile. What are your recommendations? Price range is $150-300
>>31014986
I see a lot of you don't like the idea of 20", but 18" instead. Any reason why?
