Then you won't get a huge aftermarket, that's not up to up.

M1911's, CZ-75's, Beretta 92's, and S&W M&P's have a fair following if you're not gonna do a 9mm AR.

Boy that upper and lower seem so fucking expensive but I'm not very up to date with the 308 market

What's your plans for glass?

>>30920921
Depends on why you want it. Some argue that the occasional use of propitiary parts is stupid, which I mostly agree, and many say it doesn't really solve any issues with the gun but in all actuality side charging rifles that have non reciprocation charging handles are better.

I'm planning a Gibbz upper, only proprietary part is the cam pin

You shouldn't need a heat gun. You need a Mayhew #458 5/16 punch and a 16oz ball peen hammer. Have someone hold the block flat against a piece of wood to support it, and give the pin a nice smart rap. It'll move. Then gently tap out with a smaller punch.

Is there any particular poundage I need to be looking at? I detail stripped and cleaned my slide when I got home, and I tested the extractor, so that just leaves the guide rod spring and the feed ramp before sending it off to Springfield.

I'm also not sure how to change the guide rod spring. The champion 1911s from Springfield require a paper clip sized piece of metal to disassemble by putting it in the guide rod and then sliding it out a la Glock/M&P/HK, etc. rather than out the front like a typical 1911 with a bushing. Shit's all goofy.

This is in response to my Operator giving me shit today.

yeah, AR-10s arent cheap. alot of extra metal and shit in there to work the pressures of 7.62 real fucking nato.

I probably wont have enough money to buy glass actually, so ill just stick some nice irons on there and call it a day.

Maybe swap my mepro m21 on there from time to time, when im not using my AR-15

Forgot two things. Measure both sides of the pin to see if it's tapered. If it is, make sure you're hitting the smaller side for out. Second, yes you can reuse it.

im not a fan of the ACS. ive always had problems with the friction lock becoming looser over time. i think its bc the stock body is on the larger side so its easier to loosen that U plate unintentionally through normal use
>>
>>30920967
A compelling argument.
>>
>>30920946
its a DPMS patterned receiver, so it will fit the DPMS lower.

I may not get the accuracy i hope to get out of it, but this is my first ar-10, and it will only cost me about $1,700.

Which isnt bad for a premium built AR-10. I might get a 2 moa gun is what im saying. AR-10s are a bit finicky, but this will be a learning experience.

Which Daniel Defense AR-15 would make the best last gun? I'm currently considering the DDM4 V5 LW, but the M4 V7 and M4 V9 also seem very reasonable.

Am I overthinking things? Should I just pick up whichever one is available?

I posted in a 1911 thread to see if anyone knew how to get the recoil spring off of the guide rod on my champion operator since it uses a proprietary system, and Springfield doesn't really elaborate on what to do to disassemble it. I got a heartfelt "lol use Google. What're you, five years old?"

I've gotten more advice on working on my 1911 in the AR thread, the supposed tripfag containment board, than a thread dedicated to 1911s.

Thanks ya goobs.
>>
>>30923632
I'd check with wilson combat to see if they offer a drop in guide rod and recoil spring replacement. If not contact SA. I hear they have pretty good customer service.

im trying to remove my BCM 20" barrel from its upper, but i have put over 85 lbs of torque into this trying to get the nut to break free with no luck, im afraid if i do anymore ill start warping the receiver, i have it in a vice block, i have a tube in the receiver, im turning the barrel nut left, but i cant put enough force to keep the teeth on the nut while pushing the fancy ass torque wrench, any suggestions? does bcm use loctite or some shit?

Thanks, amigo. I really enjoy shooting/carrying it, but that was a bit of a scare when I was just messing around at the range, and it started to shit the bed. I'll need to be a little more meticulous in my maintenance.

Hopefully Springfield gets back to me about replacement springs or what have you. I'm gonna try polishing the feed ramp tonight, and if that doesn't work, I'll definitely be getting some springs.

Also, Springfield makes a great gun for the money, just be sure you're ready to fiddle a bit with a 1911. I had a Loaded Combat Stainless a few years back, and love it, but sold it to pay rent.

Polishing the feed ramp typically helps only feeding, not extraction, but its something that should be done regardless.
>>
>>30924982
Yeah. That's what I've always been told. The guys I talked to said it would at least aid in preventing chattering in the barrel.

But like you said, it should be done either way. Is flitz the go to brand for most polishing jobs

I usually start with like 200 grit, then move to 400, 600, 880, then use flitz to spiff it up.

Remember, as long as you can see tooling marks you're still gtg. Once you removed those you've taken it out of spec.

There are plenty of conservatives who are disgusted with Trump, and the deeper he digs his grave the more likely he makes things for a 3rd candidate to jump in.

Hold up. Do you live near Lexington? I've been talking to the veteran outdoors guys regarding some deal they've got with Cross to make lowers and uppers for them. I'm thinking of grabbing one just to have a lower that's made close to home and support something local.

Lube question, why the greasy shit on the bolt? That isn't even the actual place where the bolt contacts the inside of the upper. I lube mine very lightly. Why do you lube yours so heavily?

Negative. I live in Texas and do exhaustive internet research when I start a project.

CMT made exactly the receivers I was looking for, with additional features, like integral ambi bolt and mag controls, and adjustable receiver tension. They are also the blackest, most matte anodizing finishes I've ever seen.

That's cool man. I live about 30min away, but I've never looked into their stuff. I've really thought about picking one up. The LGS I was talking about wants to get a deal struck between them, CMT, and Fostech to make a lower that come pre-installed with their trigger.I've thought about getting one when they start production.

I am entirely new to the AR platform. I didn't know I wanted one until Obama et al. wouldn't shut the fuck up about them. The only information I had to go on regarding their products were a handful of reviews, some HD pictures, and a hunch.

>I've really thought about picking one up.

Hell, if you have a local retailer who carries them, go fondle one. You might be impressed. If you actually do go visit CMT, tell them that they made a fat fuck Texan AR newb extremely happy, and a most probable repeat purchaser.

Pic fucking related. This excites me, sexually.

The LGS is called Veteran Outdoors. They're super friendly and ambitious right now. Their business took off pretty unexpectedly, and they're trying to go for a build-a-bear style store for ARd and the like. They'd probably like support from outside of Lexington. I'll try to stay posted on if they ever get that deal going.
