I have an SLR 107 and was told any any AK74 bayonets would fit. So my problem is the East German type 3 that I got from here (http://www.apexgunparts.com/bayonets-knives/east-german-ak74-type-3-bayonet-w-synthetic-scabbard-vg.html) mostly fits, but doesn't go down far enough to click into place on the lug. What do? It seems like it needs just a milimeter more to click, but even with the muzzle brake off it doesn't fit.

My 74 doesn't have a side rail installed on the receiver, how do I change that? I want to eventually put a PSO optic on it.
>>
>>30917995
Be sure that brake is seated as far as the threads / detent will allow. They should all work. I use a yugo bayo on a bulgy 74 and it seats just fine.
>>
>>30917693
So, I'm probably picking up a Norinco Mac90 tomorrow. Is this something I'll regret? I've been reading that they're pretty good guns.

Also, what stock should I go with? I'm partial to the traditional wood stock, but the versatility of a folding stock is also appealing to me.

My AK's headspace is slightly too tight. About 5/6 of rounds fit and 1/6 are too big to allow the bolt to close fully. Can I file the lugs VERY slightly or will that fuck up the case hardening?
>>
What are the hoops you'd need to jump through to get an AK in Virginia?
>>
>>30918967
First off, dont mess with headspace.
Second, take it to a gunsmith or contact the company.
Third, get a chamber reamer and go super slow. Like less than1/4 turn at a time.
Also all of this is after you check it with real headspace gauges.
>>
>>30918977
>Go to store
>Give money
>Receive AK

Did some extra shitty laws go into effect in VA or something?
>>
>>30919031
Gonna be a bitch to use a chamber reamer on a barrel already in the receiver on a chrome lined barrel no less

IMO he should remove the barrel pin, adjust until headspace is perfect then drill for an oversized barrel pin
>>
>>30919041
Nah, I just grew up my whole life with my dad saying that I need to do all this shit like apply for some permit and allow local law enforcement to check on how securely I store my shit, at least for automatic guns.

I'm looking to get an AK as my first automatic.
>>
>>30919031
I built this rifle myself and have fired it successfully with its first bolt so I know what I'm doing. This is the second bolt I've headspaced to this gun. The first bolt is gone and I needed a replacement, so I bought one that happened to headspace just too tightly. So what you're saying is that it WILL mess up the hardening?
>>
>>30919088
I was considering this but only after I tried every other method

>>
>>30919190
DDI is good.
>>

>>
>>30919217
>>30919231
Awesome, I'm going to buy a DDI AK then. Thoughts on 7.62vs5.45?
>>
>>30919041
lol no.

He must not know. There's some assault weapon's law on the books that is supposed to require specific forms of ID, but in my experience, that law is pretty much completely ignored. You're supposed to present:
* a certified birth certificate or certificate of birth abroad issued by the US State Department,
* an un-expired US Passport,
* a U. S. citizen identification card,
* a current voter registration card,
* a current selective service registration card,
* an immigrant or registration card issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Service, and
* a certificate of citizenship or a certificate of naturalization issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

One of those, but in my experience only once was I required to. Beyond that a valid ID and CHP was all I needed. DESU the cops don't care so it's a non issue, but it's good to have one of those specific forms of ID just in case you end up buying from a lawyer Larry. Then again, where I live in VA, I've seen so many state weapons laws broken by dealers it's not even funny.
>>
>>30919246
For your first AK, 7.62.
If it's not your first, 5.45
>>
>>30919262
But also. If it's your first ak, you might as well just get a wasr, you don't get much more out of a DDI for 300 bucks more.
The only thing you are paying for is a lower chance to get canted sights, which isn't nearly as common on wasrs now as they used to be.
>>
>>30919262
>>30919286
First AK yea

Is DDI really not worth it over a WASR? I know CAI has improved since it's "monkey" days according to various sources.

>>
>>30919312
"improved" is relative. Their kit builds are not so explody, and they seem to understand the difference between metric and imperial. Their US made guns leave quite a bit to be desired.

You're bitching about "HURR SIMILAR PRICED AR IS 10XBETTER".

There's two AR's very close to the WASR's price range, those being the M&P Sport which is "meh" like the WASR, and the Radical Firearms AR which fucking breaks as shown by AKOU.

It's "meh". Bog standard. I would'nt shame myself if I owned one, but like my WASR it's not a shining star of its type. Out of the box, it won't be as accurate as mine.
>And I like my WASR
>>
>>30919722
I love my WASR, but getting an m&p-15 you st least know what you're getting.
When getting a wasr you roll dice, will you get a cant, or crooked barrel(first time I got my wasr I had to send it back because the front trunnion was canted, nutn just the fsb), or a canted gas block, or rust, or maybe all of these things.
With an m&p-15 you will get a rifle that doesn't even need to be qc inspected and you don't need to worry.

This isn't even just century, or wasrs this like like every big name ak importer/manufacturer in the US.
This reason alone is why we say that the AK market is currently dead as fuck.

>When getting a wasr you roll dice

This is why you inspect the rifle first, as I did. You work the bolt a few times, make sure it moves as smoothly as an AK can expect to, and make sure nothing looks fucked up.

The most problem I had with mine was that it didn't like Wolf ammo until after 1,000 rounds. Now it doesn't care.

Century raised the price of WASR's to improve the abysmal sales of the RAS. There are numerous documented issues with the RAS, not found on the WASR, or any other reputable AK. The wide swings in quality mean that for $600 you're gambling on whether you have something close to IO, or nearly as good as a WASR.
>>
>>30920069
Slight warpage of the ejector from the hardening process. It happens sometimes.

>You shouldn't have to worry about shit like that
Unfortunately, thanks to federal regulation the U.S. gun industry is such ass that you pretty much need to do that with every rifle you're buying.
>>
>>30920131
Unlikely. If it's not deformed enough to inhibit cycling, then its just a finish problem. polish it if it's not smooth, put some oil on it and call it a day. You're only concern would be bare carbon steel might rust and cause issues. So don't leave it on a beach for a month.
>>
>>30919681

>>
>>30920158
>>30919845
I get that you should inspect every firearm you purchase.
But I'm talking about having to actually WORRY about it, you don't usually worry because 99% of the time you won't have to send back whatever you are getting if it's new production.
However with a wasr, there is like a 50% chance that you will have some issue right off the bat, it might not be returnable because of said issue like an FSB cant, but bad rivets and rust and all kind of nasty shit gets sent out with wasrs.
>>
>>30920168

SUMMONING SGAMMO BAKELITE IMPORTER ANON!

It's me again, I think I may be close on the process to fill out a form 6 and import some bakelite magazines, 1. register as a importer per the AECA, 2.fill out form 6 and submit.

but i have some questions, where does the Form6a (I think thats the right one)t the release from customs form come into play?

Do you fill that out at the customs warehouse? Then on Customs brokers, the form 6 part 1 has a spot to put the name of the customs broker, DO YOU HAVE to have a customs broker?

Also, how do you arrange the shipment to the customs warehouse? I read up on something about informal entry or something, can I just have the stuff mailed directly to my house?
And last, the bakes are located in Latvia, I remember you stating that you need to be in order on the export side as well, but my research led me to the fact that Latvia is free export to non E.U countries and requires no permits, but the whole thing with the mags being manufactured in the soviet union is concerning, especially with Izhmash being sanctioned, I don't see how would approve them.
I really appreciate you being here and answering some questions, If it all works out I'd like to give you all the profit I would make, I'm really doing this because I like looking at and handling the mags and cleaning them up.

I know that sounds retarded, \_(ツ)_/¯

4 on/4 off? that sounds really nice, to be honest. Time off is the same as it is now: 2 days a week, 1 option day every 2 1/2 months, and a week/2 weeks/3 weeks/however many weeks off I get at the beginning of the year dependent on how many years I've spent with the company.

Would love a schedule like 4/4, but since UPS runs Mon-Fri I don't think I'd ever get something like that.

I'm here. Usually check the /akg/ twice a day and lurk.

First off, the wait time for AECA reg is really erratic. You may wait 1 month or 6 months, so be prepared for that.

The F6A is partially filled by you and partially by the ATF specific customs agent at the "port of entry" only.

You are free to be your own customs broker, but I would highly suggest using the services offered by your carrier. Almost all shipping companies will offer it for a fee if you ask them. For the F6 you can just put the name of the shipping company as the broker.

If the shipment has F6 and IIC attached to it, it will be flagged by customs for inspection and kept in their premises for that duration, unless you have your own FTZ set up.

I really doubt there are no regulations on dual-use goods out of Latvia, but if that's the case, then you're all set.

If you want to keep in touch or have any more questions, leave a throwaway email address.

That particular optic may not work at all if you have the svd mount. From google images, it looks like it tightly hugs the dust cover even with an ak mount, and an svd mount would mount it an inch or more lower maybe so you'd be screwed if you tried to get it on.

It's one thing if you have a pso/posp scope since they have a lot of extra clearance, it still fits but it's very low to the dust cover, blocks irons, and is fairly uncomfortable to use with the svd mount.
But it looks like you are in a lot worse trouble since your red dot was meant to hug the duscover on an ak even with the correct mount.

You can even swap mount types on a pso/posp if you want. I've done it to take advantage of those $100 romanian pso scopes.
I'm looking at the pics of your scope, and IDK if you can.
Kalinka has them for pso/posps, but probably not for yours.
But... it does look like you could swap if you could find another bottom mount judging by this pic. But that could be very tough.

Good luck. Without knowing more, it looks like two screws on the bottom and you'll be able to get the current mount off and the new one on.
Maybe you can get lucky and WTB a broken one at ak files or something and get lucky, just to get a mount. Or just WTS your current one and get it right this time around, hopefully losing relatively little money, or even making some.

So before I give up and just order a poly furniture set, are 4.5mm triangle folders (bulgarian or russian) impossible to find outside of some guy selling parts out of his kitchen?
>>
>>30929103
Fug. Would you sell one/trade for bakelite goodness?
Also, shout out to whoever shares my mobile IP address and got a perma ban

I've already tried posting this twice, but apparently I'm a robot.

I have a good Polish kit with the bbl already headspaced, and a heat treated 80% receiver. I know I need a spot welder and a rivet kit, but I have a drill press and the proper drill bits. Is there anything else I'll need?
>>

Or should I just take it to a gunsmith? I'm pretty savvy, but this would be my first build.
>>
VEPR-12 fag here. I've seen some people bitch about the way you load shells into the magazines, but it's exactly like loading a nugget without stripper clips. Push down on the rimmed rear end, and slide it back. It should be as natural as breathing for a /k/ommando.

i unironically like that
>>
>>30930391

AK100 stock is superior in function anyway if you can't locate a triangle so don't feel too bad.
>>
>>30930997

I have a poly folder on my slr107, but I wanted to try out a triangle and wood furniture/dark bakelite grip on my 104. That or a triangle with plum furniture. I ended up finding a guy with like 20 nos russian triangles though, so this may just work out.

Either way this tan furniture is coming off.

Scumbag mailwoman didn't leave me my stock adapter today OR even take the signed pink slip. Instead, she left a new one in my mail box on top of the old one which I had previously signed. Guess I'm calling and pitching a fit tomorrow so that she gets taken off my mail route, because this is probably the third time she's done something like this in the last 30 days and way more times than I can count in the last year.

As a burger? Assuming you mean American... Of course you could find wasrs and other AKMs under 800, but I wouldn't pay more than 650 for a WASR, they are great rifles(at least nowadays) but they aren't worth more than that.

wow, brownells is actually selling the RAS-47
http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/receivers/lower-receivers/red-army-ras47-rifle-7-62x39-prod87686.aspx?psize=96

Sort of interested, if it ever goes on sale. Ain't paying 700 bucks for that. If anything goes wrong, they'll probably help as much as they can, even take it back probably due to their forever guarantee. Hell, maybe i'll do my own torture test.

Although while they do claim that they accept returns on everything, it seems that certain items are listed as nonreturnable when you do go to try and return it via the online order history, ammo for instance.

They did offer to take ammo back one time when I accidentally ordered some. I decided to just keep the it, since it was just 3 boxes of .223.

Because I didn't immediately after that sentence say that brownells has unconditional returns? If it truly is dog shit and fails, then unlike other stores, they would actually try to help you fix it, or even take it back. Now, you can claim return abuse if you'd like, but that is their policy which they push very aggressively (unlike other places with similar policies, that have it but don't advertise it on every page; costco or stewmac).

It's becuase of that I'm willing to try out unknown or allegedly shit products. Some turn out ok and I keep, while some turn on shit and I return.
