Time to call your representatives..

>>> Amends the federal criminal code to prohibit the purchase, ownership, or possession of enhanced body armor, except: (1) by or under the authority of the United States or any state or political subdivision, or (2) enhanced body armor that was lawfully possessed before the effective date of this Act.>>>
>>>Defines "enhanced body armor" to mean body armor, including a helmet or shield, the ballistic resistance of which meets or exceeds the ballistic performance of Type III armor, determined using National Institute of Justice Standard-0101.06. >>>

You can buy whatever you want for body armor as long as they'll sell it to you. Some online retailers won't sell rifle plates without credentials, but those are usually LE/Mil supply primarily so they're most likely just trying to hold on to limited stock. Some states regulate body armor for some absurd reason, so not having to deal with that headache is another reason.
>>
>>30790964
That's what I thought never heard of a level four helmet a civilian could buy

That guy doesn't know what he's talking about. There's a wide variety of steels, and temper plays a large role in the toughness of steel, otherwise they would make tank armor from cheap structural mild steel

So, does anyone in here have any ideas on what a civil war would look like. And do you think one would ever start over something like this?

I always kinda wondered if it would end like the Yugoslav wars with somewhat functional breakaway states. I would have a hard time believing that we could remain a whole union. Also there is the chance that we become some shithole like Somalia or Syria.

>I just joined the Army Infantry and ship in Sept. I am willing to fight, could there be a military style coup like the one in Turkey?
>>
>>30792677
There will never be a civil war. The vast majority of this country is made up of bootlickers, government apologists and people who are "comfortable". There will be people who will refuse to comply but they won't be the majority.
>>
>>30792728
I agree. The majority isn't willing to do shit. But they would just stay out of the way right? I mean a majority of Syrians didn't fight, they just left and went to other places in the country or left the country totally. But you really don't think there could not be any sort of "Civil War" ?

>>
>>30792926
At least she isn't brandishing it with her booger crook on the bang switch this time.
>>
>>30792820
I think that the power of the media being able to successfully demonize any group opposition group coupled with the FBI (which are really just federal coppers) being the usual agency that takes care of "uprisings" means that the kinds of people who would say "Hey wait a second..." are very small. If the military was sent to quell uprisings there might be another civil war, but G-Men are different.
>>
>>30792728
Has there ever been a civil or revolutionary war that even involved the "vast majority" of a population? My guess is no.
>>
>>30792985
No, but I don't think even 5% of the population is willing to go to war with Uncle Sam right now, homie. Partially because they might miss American Idol, but mostly because "the time isn't right" and they don't want to die.
>>
>>30792999
They don't need to all be there at the beginning. I agree that we are, by and large, too comfortable to think that starting shit is a good idea, but if shit got started by the people who did think it was a good idea, more would join.
>>
>>30790922
There is some rough areas in America were you do need body armor, usually the problem is gangs who use illegal means of harassing and extorting money from small businesses in places like Detroit and other ghettos. Self defense militias might not be needed now, but sometimes they really are needed when gangs get out of control, usually when the cops and local government fail to do their job.

There was a trial to determine What nij level V consisted ( dragon skin scandal ). But due to vast required expenses, additional weight needed and armor thickness there was simply no reliable way to stop .50 bmg lead core or its lesser 40 cal brothers at the time. The armor industry is a very slow beast with new innovations being rather costly and lack the market force to drive a vast change I have noticed.

I can see banning guns. For them, it's a logical step to dealing with the dangers of firearms in the wrong hands. I don't agree with it, but I can understand their logic.

But banning body armor? Actively preventing people from passively defending themselves against guns? I sincerely do not get it.
>>
>>30793738
because gun control is inherently about people control. has nothing to do with the guns themself.
>>
>ban armor
>why? It's passive defense against harm
>IT'S SCARY AND BLACK JUST SHUTUP AND BAN IT

>>30793667
Eh, whatever man. Detroit is actually a pretty cool place. Think whatever you want but it is on a comeback trail.
>>
>>30793787

I don't really agree with that. I legitimately believe that most people who want gun control are sincerely concerned with the safety of the people. I think they're misguided and focusing on the wrong issues, but the average person on the street is voting with good intentions. I think that holds true for most representatives as well.

Dismissing their arguments as invalid because they're part of some big conspiratorial agenda is the exact reason our country is so deeply entrenched in partisan warfare.

That doesn't make them any less wrong, but at least treat them like rational people. And I can't imagine anyone rationally supporting a fringe position like "Body armor is dangerous." This can't, and won't, pass.
>>
>>30793738
It's partially >>30793787 and partially because mass shooters use body armor too because they think it will protect them from getting killed.

If I was forced to write body armor legislation what makes the most sense in my opinion would be to consider the scenarios the average person would need body armor meaning against pistol fire. Therefore you'd need an FFL to purchase anything what... level III and higher? But then what stops people from buying carriers and buying plates that are level III equivalent and popping them into the carriers.

I get what you mean. It makes sense in the worst way possible, but it also doesn't. Either way, straight up banning shit is not the answer.

Voters are supposed to take some responsibility for being informed. That they don't loses them any respect for their rationality.

Only 3% of the colonists actively fought against the British in the American revolution.

The people in the DoD who spend their time creating action plans for every possible contingency expect 13% to 18% of the population to support a revolution if the fed gov ever trys to confiscate weapons. That around 43 million people. Now tell me how a civil war would never accomplish anything in this day and age.
>>
>>30806676
I think you'd want the reverse. Hard material first to maximize velocity loss, followed by soft material to further it.
>>
>>30793630
But that's bullshit.

The only round that can penetrate level III is an M193 at close range and their (unofficial) III+ stops that. A year or 2 ago you would probably be right, but the increased demand has sparked a massive acceleration in the quality of their products.
