There's no attempt. It's already happened. The problem is if the US wants Erdogan out or if they intervene.

China will be the interesting party though. They've made MAD cash off tech trades with Turkey thanks to Erdogan.

Same as every country then?

Erdogan has benefited Turkey more than he's hurt it. He's done more to fuck the region up though. In the past, I imagine Turkey would have bombed the shit out of ISIS instead of sending supplies to them.

Pretty standard for regime media to report that "Everything is fine and under control". Even if it's not true it can placate those outside of major areas and deter them from revolting. It also serves to create another narrative so media isn't just reporting one thing.
In the end it creates more chaos and commanders on both sides will have to use their own intel to determine what's true and use the chaos to their advantage.

https://www.stratfor.com/analysis/why-turkish-coup-will-likely-fail

> In essence, an Islamist faction within the military that has deeply alienated the secular strongmen within the armed forces is the one leading the challenge against Erdogan. In other words, it is not a coup backed by Turkey’s secular political, military and civilian opposition. This is already evidenced by signs of a countercoup led by a number of military commanders and the national police, as well as by the main secular opposition Republican People’s Party leader saying it is against the coup.

Maybe Ataturk yet lives.
>>
>>30637858
Should add that as SOON as the coup started, Erdogan started blaming Gulen, saying shit like "You can't run this country from Pennsylvania". He's been blaming Gulen the whole way but there's zero indication he's involved.

With Turkey's history of the secular military overthrowing religious extremists, it's weird Erdogan would automatically blame Gulen instead of said secular forces.

no way to slow down

Allegations that surrenderings are staged because the body language of the soldiers are wrong, trying to find videos but my internet is fucking up.

You can't trust anything, especially when the government side holds the media control

Fight appears to still be on in Ankara. Only time will tell it it's really a 'small faction'.
>>
Troops on bridge probably surrendered since Istanbul has heavy pro-government presence and would likely have been cut off from reinforcements.
>>
>>30639204
Makes me wonder if this will drag on into a full in rebellion.
>>
>>30639227
That would depend on how the rest of the military feels about Erdogan's threats of purges. If they feel it real enough then they may side with the Gulinists.

Why is Istanbul so pro government?

And how much of the military looks like it'll be on the side of the coup?
>>
The King Justin Trudeau has spoken:

>We call for restraint by all parties. Canada supports the preservation of Turkish democracy, and condemns any attempt to subvert Turkey’s democratic institutions by force of arms.

>Why is Istanbul so pro government?

full of the really poor, really stupid, really brown side of Turkey.

Islam is basically populism for derkas.

What a fucking shitter.

We don't know, it may just be that everyone sane is doing the smart thing and staying inside while the yahoos outside are the vocal minority.
The fact that the coup plotters so far have refrained from going all out and just gunning down the protesters aren't helping them locally.

>And how much of the military looks like it'll be on the side of the coup?
Initially only contained elements of Army and Air Force. For most of the duration so far the rest have been contented to stand back.
Recently there's been indications that the Navy may have sided with the coup, while Government loyalist have been deploying their own F-16s to bomb tanks near the presidential palace.

Unconfirmed but all senior command staff of the Military is either missing or have not talekd to anyone.
>>
>>30639298
What a hack.

>>30639337
I'm suprised they haven't just leveled the palace yet.

I wonder if a lot of the coup supporters aren't just hanging back and waiting for the right time to commit themselves. They're showing a lot of restraint, and I'm not sure if it's going to help them in the long run or not.

>>30639346
Maybe the pro coup side runs deeper than what we assumed.

Rip in pieces. Possibly literally.

Indications of large scale Navy activity, possibly evacuation of ships from port

>>30639386
Probably a waste of ammo since Erdogan obviously isn't there
>>
>>30639407
What could an evacuation of the ships mean?
>>
>>30639386
The F-16 strikes appear to be pro-government hitting coup tanks.

>>30639407
Unconfirmed reports that the navy is Pro-Coup. Really wish we could get some fucking reliable info, or that a coup leader would make a statement.

>>30639424
Closing off the Bosphorus and giving AA coverage over Istanbul.
>>
>>30639407
They're fine, for now at least. Police shuffled them all into a van.
>>
>>30639424
If they're underway, no one can seize them and take control of their ships. See what happened to the Ukrainian navy in Crimea two years ago. The question now is which side they support.

Clashes in front of 2nd Army command center reported in Malatya. Isnt the east where the majority of the military is stationed?
>>
>>30639440
>>30639437
It might all hinge on the navy now.

I hope those reports are true that they're pro-coup
>>
>>30639467
I wish we could get a source for that. Pro-Coup forces appear to still be in control of the army's website though and say their operations are still underway. https://twitter.com/Conflicts/status/754171162708631552
