The Joint Emergency Evacuation Plan. Established during the cold war to insure the continuance of government. All of the backup presidents, their essential staff, members of congress, and their families.

We detect missiles in the boost phase, we confirm they are inbound to the US, the JEEP system activates and people start getting calls to report to their collection sites for transport by air or land. Effectively they scatter, hoping that enough will survive to ensure the federal government can keep functioning.

>MBUS PRO.
Cool. If I only wanted to run iron sights on my gun (want to wait to spend $$$ on a Trijicon MRO) for a while, would you recommend the MBUS or would springing for Troy sights with Tritium be a better investment?

If it matters, this is for a 20 inch build. Handguard length yet to be determined. I was going to get 12" but now I'm thinking installing a A2 FSB is beyond me so I might as well go longer.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/672734/daniel-defense-detachable-front-and-a15-rear-fixed-sight-set-ar-15-flat-top-aluminum-matte

On the DD website they look a bit different:
https://danieldefense.com/fixed-front-rear-sight-combo.html

Anyways, I think I might just get these to start off with and invest in a red dot if I feel it's warranted. Are you thinking you'll add optics at some point?

Also, are you running a 13" guard on a 16" barrel? I'll have to look into what length of handguard to run on a 20" barrel to get a decent sight radius.
>>
>>30603899
>>30603986
Nvm, it looks like a rifle buffer tube, so I'll assume at least 18, maybe 20".

I'm getting the same Magpul rifle stock, which is what caught my eye! I'll keep an eye out for you on these threads... I have been super nervous about my first build being a 20" because it just seems like so much of the advice and resources out there are directed toward 16" builds.
>>
>>30603986
Those should be them, I think they look different because midway has a picture of the left side of the rear sight for some reason.
I might go to a 1-6x on the black one at some point, and get flip ups for it, move the fixed sights to the short green one.

15" Geissele mk8 on a 20" barrel.
>>
>>30604002
Should make you feel a bit better that my first build was that 20" rifle then. ;)
I'd consider 18" since there's no real negatives to it over 20, and the gun is 2" shorter for it.
If I could justify the ~$200 for it, I'd swap my barrel for a 18" faxon.

Hell, if you're comfortable with it and want to, I'd sell you my 20" barrel.
It's a Del-Ton, 1x9 twist, less than 1K rounds through it.

What's the optic on your shorty? Is it a 16"? or 14.5+1.5"? Very nice.

Was the Geissele worth the money? I'm assuming you didn't put the same guard on the short one. I'm considering cheaping out and getting a Midwest Industries or Aero handguard but I just noticed the Geissele does come with a gas block, which I haven't bought yet. So might be the way to go!

>>30604021
I actually already ordered the barrel - rainier 20" stainless, 1x8 twist, i think. I'll check if I can cancel in the morning. I was thinking of cancelling anyways because I realized how silly it is for someone short like me to get a long gun but I'm at peace with the decision now haha.

Do you find yourself using the short one more? I think part of my doubt is just standard buyers remorse which will disappear when it's all built.

See, here's the thing: Everyone's convinced that those at the top are "out to get us", like it's personal. Like they have this James Bond villain hideout with maps and files on people, and all that.

I'm convinced now more than ever that, in Clinton's case specifically, we've seen enough to know for certain that she's entirely indifferent to us. Do you consider the relevance of the ants toiling away in their tunnels in your yard? I reckon not. Not until you can either use them, or have to destroy them to improve things for yourself.

That's how she sees us. We don't matter, but she will most certainly kill us all if it improves her lot in life.
>>
>>30604156
the "pistol" is 12.5 under a 13" rail. Thanks. :)
I bought the Geissele though the blem sale they did 2 weeks ago, so definitely worth the $140 it cost me.
For the pistol at some point it'll get a new rail, I'm looking at getting a Guntec
http://www.guntecusa.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=59_101&product_id=706

Don't worry about cancelling if you don't want to man, the rainier is a better barrel than my del-ton.
The short one is handier and lighter, and I do like it a bit better, if I'm honest.
But I still love my 20". Maybe build a 16" mid gas first if you decide to cancel and have doubts?
The biggest benefit for the normal person that 20" gives is softer recoil.

Mine is always completely empty and its pretty fucking weird how it even stays open with only $15 memberships.

"What is it like to fire an AR-15? It’s horrifying, menacing and very very loud.

It felt to me like a bazooka — and sounded like a cannon.

But mostly, I was just terrified.

Squeeze lightly on the trigger and the resulting explosion of firepower is humbling and deafening (even with ear protection).

The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don't know what you're doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable."

Thanks. Turned out pretty well. Sorta came in crashing this thread so lack context, but if OP needs trigger work (or anybody for that matter) done I can't recommend David Seth at Brimstone gunsmithing enough. He worked on my Geissele and it breaks like a candy cane. Question for you: that muzzle brake, is it loud asf and distractingly gassy? I've got a battlecomp on mine, and although it does its job extremely well I find it distracting to the point I'm thinking about swapping it out for an A2, but not quite there yet. Like to hear opinions on brakes (first one for me). Nice pick btw.

The top two scopes represent the SightMark Photon II, a fixed zoom 4.7x Gen III+ NV scope. The .300 BLK would be for coyote and pig mostly, and the scope's zoom works well for close ranges.

Dude use it as motivation to get out there and take some more pictures!

The Battlecomp looks sweet. I got a Strike J-Comp because I'm poor and the Type 89 is cool. I wanted something that had flash hiding and compensator capability.

I personally hate excessive muzzle blast and concussion. I flinch like a bitch enough as it is so a huge considering of mine is how much felt shockwave there is to the shooter.

The J-Comp is perfectly acceptable for me in this realm. The geometry and mechanics of compensating recoil necessitate that at least some vector of the blast be redirected back towards the shooter, but different muzzle devices do it differently.

Don't go straight for the A2. Compensators/brakes are very effective and useful. There is a slomo webm on here of one of the trips, I think it might be pb or qb, shooting through a Surefire break, and the muzzle barely moves. Shop around. Maybe try to snag something with a little more flash reduction than the battlecomp. It is bound to have less felt concussion. As with all things, when it comes to muzzle devices it is a trade off.

I've found a pretty sweet route up around Gold Lake and Lefthand Canyon. It is a 40 minute drive from Boulder. You have to hike in quite a bit.

The freedom line is acceptable, but the CHF barrels are true 30,000 round barrels (Assuming all copper jacketed ammo and no excessive heat).

If you're going Freedom line consider Hardened Arms. I've got two Hardened Arms uppers and there is another Anon on here who has one. I've put about 1500 rounds through my two combined and I've got no complains. The barrel specs are slightly better than the freedom line as well, and you're saving money.

For $370 you get a free float keymod rail, 1/7 twist, BCG and charging handle.

Most accurate major-production AR barrel going. You'd have to step up to a custom/semicustom barrel from one of the major accuracy companies to get better.

But they're unlined and not CHF, so they will wear a bit faster.

Good power from short to intermediate barrels (though not as much as 6.5gren), more recoil than any of the non-bigbore AR calibers, rainbow trajectories due to relatively low MV and a short light-for-caliber bullet with the BC of a brick (compared to 69+gr 5.56 or 100+gr 6.5).

The Fed Fusion load is a damn good <=300m hunting load, and I'd trust it on everything up through black bear and caribou. But it's not a very versatile round, you've only got 3 commercial loads with bullets ranging between 90 and 115gr, vs. 36-77gr for .223/5.56 or 80-129gr for 6.5gren.

Also, if you wish to reload it, you're pretty much stuck with pulled bullets and factory seconds, almost nobody makes a <120gr .277 bullet and the 120gr+ ones won't load to mag length safely.

That's kind of what I'm figuring will happen to me once the novelty of building the "true AR" in 20 inches wears off.

I've emailed Rainier to see if they'll swap my order of a 20" for a 16" with mid-length gas. I don't have that much room to accumulate/store a bunch of ARs (though that would be ideal) so I think I'll be happy with a jack-of-all-trades 16" and deal with the heavier recoil and louder sound.

I like your pistol looks so much it's ridiculous. Have you ever tried using it without the stock and doing the sling-system?

I haven't tried using it with the sling as stabilization, but I've also definitely never put the arm brace in my shoulder. That would be illegal. :p
I've got a magpul MS4 I use with the QD enplate, that works pretty well.
Eventually I'll change the handguard and get a QD point up front too.

Also, I recommend building a few uppers, they aren't as bulky as full rifles so they're easier to store.
I only built a lower for the pistol for legal reasons.

Get a set of mbus pro's
>>
>>30607299
On the ebay/used market, you can frequently get Troy HK-style fronts and KAC 600m and 300m micro rears cheaper than you can MBUS Pro's.

Diamondhead fronts are okay but their rears are wonky, I feel like you lose too much FOV.

Disregarding price, the quality/usability ranking is:
>KAC micro (both front and rear)
>Troy HK-style front with Troy tritium rear
>MBUS Pro (both front and rear)

The KAC Micros are the lowest profile, followed by the MBUS Pro's. The Troys are a little bulky but that sight picture is sooo damn good.

Unfortunately, MBUS rears and KAC fronts are horrendously expensive compared to other good options, and of course the Troy tritium is ridiculously expensive but doesn't really have any competition.

I'd get a used KAC 600m micro rear on ebay and whichever is cheaper between an MBUS Pro or a Troy HK style front. For me the Troy was cheaper once and the MBUS was cheaper the second time.

As an example:
>stolen valor rear currently available for $49 buy it now, with 3 that have bids under $40
>Troy regular style folding front currently $67.71 buy it now
So with 2 clicks you could have a complete sight set that shits alllll over MBUS gen2's for $116.71 without dicking with auctions.

Or if you're ultrajew, there's a Troy non-tritium rear on auction for $9.99 with 3 days left and only 1 bid, will probably end under $40.
>>
>>30607417
Depends what your budget is man. If you've got the cash, buy a diopter set. For some folks spending $215 on bus that are rarely deployed is a waste of money that could be better spent on a trigger or barrel. Different strokes I guess. Not going to waste my time arguing about it.

It looks excellently flat shooting out to 200 yards. I would probably stretch it out to 400 yards and it looks like it still has some nice energy at that range.

Out of an 18" barrel with some nice glass it would definitely give me some better power than a 5.56, even if it isn't versatile. I'd want it for deer or black bear at ranges likely <200 yards.

Plus ammo seems affordable and Hornady makes some attractive loads.

>>30607535
Good ammo is slightly more affordable for 6.8 than it is for 6.5, yes, but if you're willing to shoot some really dogshit bad steel case, Wolf makes 6.5 (though availability is sporadic).

Going specifically with Hornady's SST loads, the 120gr 6.8 has a 110fps muzzle velocity advantage over the 123gr 6.5 from a 16" barrel, but the 6.5 catches it at 200 yards and exceeds it at 300. At 400 yards the 6.5 is 60fps faster and carries almost 100 ft-lbs more energy.

Hornady doesn't give a drop chart for 6.5 from a 16" barrel but it should be significantly flatter, hitting about 3" higher at 400 yards.

Give me a minute to work up loads in QL. 6.5's factory loads are quite conservative, 6.8 are pretty hot. There's more room to gain with handloads in the 6.5.

>FGMM small rifle primer
>2401fps MV, 1478 ft-lbs ME. Drops 45.4" at 400m from a 100m zero.

The 6.5 *should* be faster, with a heavier and significantly higher BC bullet (.510 G1 for the 123gr 6.5mm SST vs. .400 G1 for the 120gr 6.8mm SST). But like I said earlier, the factory 6.5 is loaded pretty cool.

Varget, H322, H335, BL-C2, AR-Comp, 8208 XBR, and a few other powders produce within 100fps for the 6.5 but only AR-Comp and 8208 have low enough bulk to really be viable for the lower case capacity of the 6.8.

Slightly, coupled with the slightly stiffer lock on them making them a bit slower to deploy and fold. The KAC and MBUS Pro's are a bit more user friendly but the HK-style KAC's give the best sight picture.

And yeah, sight height is standardized for the AR, mix and match all you want.

Stolen valor is an /arg/ and arfcom joke about the USMC-marked KAC micros, considering for the first year they were available on ebay 100% of them were stolen from the USMC instead of legal surplus.
>most of them still are stolen, but some of them are legit
>>
>>30607866

>>
>>30607840
No worries.

The attractive thing about the 6.5gren is it's a true 1000m-capable caliber through an 18" barrel, meaning your rifle will weigh a scant fraction of what a .308 AR capable of 1000m would. Makes it more versatile.

Also, the 123gr SST has a ridiculously high BC for an expanding hunting bullet, something you'd have to go to the significantly more expensive Nosler Accubond-LR or Hornady ELD-X for for other calibers. They really hit a home run with it.
>>
>>30607891

I'm the dude with the pic of the rifle w the range flag up thread, commented on the polymers (not a bad choice imo) been running mbus pros, also have an MRO (again up thread), a bushnell is a fine option if you dont have the cash to drop; that said, they're nice, positive deployment, but I'm talking out of my ass as a person who's experience is NM irons, again honestly, a bus is a bus, if you were going *soley* with irons, the mbus LR (what I'm rolling) are efficient, but at the end of the day, 200+ yard shots is not what the carbine platform is designed for. Save your money, buy a good trigger group/barrel/ammunition. Irons should be your last consideration. They are there to save your ass in case everything else goes to shit. And *most of us* will never find ourselves in that senario (hopefully).

You want the longest sight radius possible (re. rail). Don't waste your $$ on tritium.
