So I feel like my Slr is complete, debating whether or not in the future I should add a light.. Its tactifool enough and I don't want to add much forward weight.
TL;DR I'm happy with my Slr and my birthday present to myself.

Seriously debating where I should take this rifle though guys.. the brake seems to do a good job and fagpul grip was cheap enough plus in person.

Anybody here have experience dimpling rivet holes? I'm going to be doing a kit build and a lot of what I've heard is that using a bolt cutter and 1/4" ball bearing would work, but that it could slightly crack the receiver. Are there other methods I should know about or is it just fine?

So with the conclusion of the Rob Ski 5000 rounds test, is the Arsenal SLR series officially g2g?

Seems like even in a worst case scenario they do great, and Arsenal is apparently refinishing rifles for people who got ones with bubbling finish.
>>
What type of steel is an AR15 made of?
>>
>>30590072
The aluminum kind.
>>
>>30590027
Either get an Arsenal or build from a reputable local builder if in the 1k+ range, or get a new production WASR 10 or new production NPAP if in the poorman range. The finish problem was on on a certain batch of Arsenals because they did not properly degrease them before doing the finish.
>>
>>30590027
I think Arsenal is the way to go if you go for the folding stock variants. Otherwise I'd save a few bucks and get a WASR-10 if we're talking about an AK in 7.62.

I have a PK01VS. Not much to say about it. Works well, not noticing paralax, sits low between 1/3 and absolute.

It's just heavy and kinda spendy but the heart wants. For 5.45 I'd look at other offerings but it's a cool optic for 7.62.

Hey guys, recently bought a Draco AK pistol and I'm debating on getting it SBR'ed or just turned into a regular rifle. It has a virgin Romanian underfolder rear trunnion. Is there enough meat there for a polish underfolder? I have access to a drill press and TIG/MIG welders so the actual doing it part isn't an issue.

WASR if you want a akm
PAP if you want few aftermarket parts
IO if you want to explode

WASR or the PAP are fine if you check them first and the pap is not from that one batch with fucked heat treating.
>>

If you mean Beryl Archer which was just imported by IO then absolutely get that if you want an AK in 5.56. Those things are great but expensive and hard to find.

AKM is not designed for straight magdumping
the Iraqveteren8888 video is just for fun and shouldn't be read into at all

wood is rather soft and I think it doesn't have a good aesthetic, but it works, so it doesn't "need" to be replaced

Not really better per se, just different. The argument is 5.56 and 5.45 are similar, but 5.56 is common, while 5.45 less so. The milsurp 5.45 is getting more expensive and not many commercial loads available.

(7.62+5.56) > (5.45+5.56)
But it's just opinion really
>>
>>30595193
So 7.62+5.56 are a combo with quite different qualities

5.45+5.56 are similar
>to a degree

7.62 is much cheaper to get into. If you go 5.45 you'll want to stack milsurp and open the wallet for mags

For 54r the PSO-1 is gud, I cannot use it to its full potential on my AK, would like to buy something like a PK-01 or PO 3.5x21P for that magnification. For anything 54r i would recommend sights with 4x and more magnification. Also sidemount is the only proper way to attach a scope to an AK, unless you turn it into a scout rifle for that maximum eye relief and dont care about looks. I recommend the PSO-1, KALINKA optics if you have the money.

neat, I figured that'd be the easier of the two to convert. and VEPR's take standard 7.62x39 mags?

for the sake of sating my curiosity, or if I do attempt a project, what do you have to do to convert a Saiga? do you have to grind down the magwell? like I said, I converted an S12, and that required a bit of hand sawing, as well as drilling and grinding. I'd probably be alright with doing it again, I'm just not too sure the process when it comes to the rest of the stuff I didn't have to do for the 12.

Eastern Euro steel surplus AK mags are objectively the hardiest, strongest, most durable AK mags on the market, if not THE most durable mags.

Surplus bakelites are lighter, but have essentially no other advantages, other than being able to call other people poorfags. And if you're doing that with an AK, you need to go slam your dick in your AK's action.

Sup /AKG/

I was just watching Iraqveteran's AK magdump video and I saw something interesting.

Occasionally some online retailer will have a shipment of a certain kind. For example
https://rguns.net/shop/russian-ak74-30rd-magazine-5-45x39mm/
A lot of the time websites like that don't show up with simple search terms like "surplus 5.45 magazines" though so you really do have to do a bit of homework to find them.

>>
>>30601776

Century arms seems to have at least sold an RPK style rifle for a bit, as there are some C39s available. However, this is nowhere near the amount of traditional AK pattern rifles i could buy and it seems like they don't import them anymore
>>
>>30601777
There's nothing wrong with the gap, that's just how it's built. IV1488 was just showing his ignorance if he pointed that out as a bad thing.

Going to get some glow paint to apply to my front and rear sight to help a bit with night shooting.

Do I want green glowing rear sights and a red glowing front sight? Or do I want to apply green to both? I've heard it's easier to focus on the red if you apply it to the front.

Where can I get a premium quality wooden furniture set?

I'm not super interested in finishing some surplus wood on my own I don't really have all the sanding tools and shit I need for that but I could maybe do it for cheap enough with good quality wood.

Also check out my Wasr-10. I get the feeling you guys probably shit on century arms stuff but I love it.

I added the ALG AKT trigger myself and the magpul MOE+ grip. Also I smoothed and polished the action with a dremel and it is buttery smooth now.

Is it /akg/ approved?
>pls be gentle

WASRs are great, supposedly the best in that price range.

R8 my new wasr, I got her like 3 weeks ago and refinished some Romanian stock set I got off of akbuilder.

Ultimak works just fine. I got lucky, bolted on an ultimak, and a Bushnell red dot.

Went to zero, was good at 25, and 100, and 200, and we were out of room.

It does get hot, but anything will, even stock furniture. My long arms talked me into a magpul forend, and now I can comfortably grab my rifle in any position, without gloves.

The ultimak let's me go over, or under to get to the charging handle. I can't do that with a side rail mounted optic. Which was really important to me. I also got to keep my rear sight, which seems critical to me.
>>
>>30604180
Looks bretty gud.
Did you shave the rear off the dong, or did you get it like that?
What'd you use to finish it?
>>
>>30596165
I'm in love with mine. I'm lanky so a Warsaw pact length stock gives me a nose weld with the dust cover. It goes from even shorter than Warsaw, to long as hell. I'm 6'4",and keep it one notch from all the way out. No more nose weld+folder. Tons of places to mount a sling, and cheek risers. It is bombproof. I don't mess around in the Arctic, or smash things with my rifle. You could probably smash a face or two with no worries. I just wouldn't swing it by the barrel.

Grab one from brownells.com. If you don't like it you can always return it.
>>
>>30600756
That is the rear sight block. It doesn't need to touch anything but your barrel.

Think of that gap like a vagina. Smaller could be better. It really doesn't matter as long as you keep it clean. Look inside, where the gas piston and bolt carrier pass through. Are there scars from something banging off the walls? She may be twisted. Straighten her out for best performance. A bigger initial gap, can indicate poor assembly. At the end of the day if she works, she'll pay the bills. Doesn't matter.
>>
>>30602994
Thank you for the recommendation. I'll look into it.

>>30603049
>How's the grip and the AKT?

They are both fantastic and exactly what I wanted. Trigger is super snappy and responsive and grip is grippy and fills my hand better than the stock.

>>30603062
I will reconsider stock furniture.

You should, especially if you can find a set on the cheap.
Nothing makes a rifle your own like a set of furniture that you've put some work into.
>and if you "fuck up", you can always strip it and try again.
>>
>>30604847
Thanks.

Any thoughts on which surplus wood is best? My only beef with my current Century arms furniture is that the hand guard wood feels flimsy.

I'd like something with a heavier more dense feel.

Apex has "good" sets of Romy surplus furniture.
That's a place to start.

http://www.apexgunparts.com/romanian-ak47-akm-wood-stock-set-w-pistol-grip-good.html

The surplus furniture is much sturdier than the US made stuff they are putting on WASRs these days.
That shit is balsa tier junk at best, unfortunately.

Having my wisdom teeth taken out was one of the most miserable experiences of my life. So much blood, the stitches itched, and my jaw looked like fucking Quagmire's for days.
>>
>>30607319
Same desu. Some people come out of it and eat hard foods in just a couple days. I was completely miserable for almost a week and in so much pain I couldn't sleep until I started taking way more of the hydrocodone than I was supposed to. The surgery itself was awful as well because I never actually "went under", I was awake the entire time and it felt like I was being tortured. Found out later that the surgeon I went to has a bad track record and other people have reported the same thing.

I was gushing blood and pus and swapping gauze for the first 24 hours at least. My sister is having a similar experience to yours though. The only part she really hates is not being able to eat real food yet.

>The surgery itself was awful as well because I never actually "went under"
I went out like a light, but that didn't do anything to make the post-op (hurrhurr) any less terrible. All four of mine were completely below the gumline and were removed at the same time, so I wasn't eating anything beyond soup for about a week.

Yeah everybody says that but I never actually had that black-out experience. The most memorable part was when they broke the teeth into pieces so they could extract the smaller bits. And when they pulled the stitches through because I could feel the thread running through my gums. Obviously the aneasthetic helped with the pain a lot, but it still hurt and it also made me confused and I could see the bloody tools coming in and out of my mouth from under the cloth they placed over my eyes. It was fucking awful.

Also to RUSanon, I got paid a bit in cash today so I will have your money to you very soon.
>>
>>30604436
I shaved it a bit, I didn't know at the time that magpuls had problems with dongs and I thought it was set too far back or something so I sanded it a bit.
It looks alright to me and hey it was only 40 bucks for a full set, hardware and all so I don't really care all that much.

Well its a little easier to get 7.62 just because the domestic ammo production has had more time to get running. Until recently the 5.45 was cheaper because you could get really cheap spam cans but you basically missed the boat on that one.

So, just go with which ever round you like better.
>>
>>30608792

I'm very pro-5.45 for my SHTF rifle but for a new buyer I would hesistat to suggest it because ammo is drying up and magazines are almost completely unavailable. Or just have both. Many components except mags and internals are interchangable.

Yup, and love it. It's a really fun toy, probably the most fun rifle I've ever shot. It's a great shooter with the high quality factory 188 russian surplus. It's fine with white box LVE ammo too, and with surplus being so expensive, you almost might as well move over to noncorrosive at this point.
>>30608548
>wouldn't pay what they go for today
I would, but I can't blame others that wouldn't. I'm a real buy once cry once guy and don't settle for anything less than what I actually want. I'm right at the limit of what I'd ever pay though, they're pretty spendy nowdays.
