I don't really have anything right now but I'm looking at picking up some true blacks that I'd like to be able to sell for around $45-$50 each. I don't really do group buys as I'm too afraid that the package will get lost and I'll have to refund everyone their money. There's too much risk involved, I'd rather shoulder the risk myself and sell them normally once I have them in my possession. The one time I accepted money for mags I didn't have yet was the one time I got fucked over.

Feel like Ironwood has the high end market cornered, if you could come in less then his prices and with a authentic shellac finish I'd be a little interested.
>>
>>30612733
Not much to be honest. My AKs all have furniture already, what motivation do I have to buy wood for it that hasn't already lived decades with these parts?
>>
>>30612791
I'd definitely like to keep it way under 100$ a set. My idea is to appeal to collectors and those who want autistic levels of authenticity and historical accuracy. If anything it would be a cheaper alternative to paying 150$+ for a NOS set.
>>30612803

I have a question. The Arsenal SLR 107CR has the combination gas block/front sight post. Would it be possible to equip the rifle with an Ultimak M1-b railed gas block and still be able to reattach the front sight post? I'm imagining that its connected to the gas block, and the whole unit would be replaced with the Ultimak m1-b.

So I recently moved out of Maryland and have been thinking about getting an AK. I really like the aesthetics of the AK-74, but it would seem like my only option for one outside of building my own is an Arsenal SLR-104FR. Now I don't really have anything against polymer, but I really want wood furniture if I'm going to get a -74.

Do I have any other quality options for a -74? How difficult would it be to swap out the folding poly stock for a solid wood one? I know next to nothing about the internals of AK rifles but I've often heard talk of trunion shape/issues and that changing barrels is a pain in the ass, so I'm not sure about the stocks.

>>30619349

>>
>>30619419

>>
>>30619349
I had a 552? plus magnifier which I believe is the same but with NV capabilities. It absolutely sucked, I sent mine back under their refund program and got full MSRP, even though I bought it used. You should do the same. Get an Aimpoint or Primary Arms or something that doesn't burn out your batteries so quickly. If you're unaware of the recall, they can lose their zero simply by existing on a hot day or if they sit in the trunk of your car. The executives of the company knew about this issue for years and tried to ignore it without making changes to the design. Literally all of them have the issue.

My batteries would never last very long. 0/10, would not trust my life to it, but the company's forced customer service (due to government lawsuit) is excellent.
>>
>>30619424

Oh shit, good to know. I'll probably just tell my friend to send it in for a full refund. I'd be a piece of shit ripping him off like that, especially since he is selling gun stuff to pay for medical bills.

A local shop has one for 1,170.

Another question about the -104. Everywhere I look, it always has "scope rail" mentioned in the description, and yet every picture I have seen of one it clearly does not have any rail attachments except for the models that come with a quad rail fore end. A side mount is never mentioned with the accessories it comes with.
>>
>>30619496
I wouldn't really know but they're talking about the side rail. I'd scoop that shit up quickly anon. I have a 107 and I'm going to buy a 104 when i have the chance, hopefully the prices will be reasonable by the time i have the money.
>>
>>30619514
I never liked the side rail because I cannot co witness with most optics. I like to keep the basics.
>>
>>30619532
I've always been a fan of just pain iron sights myself, I just found it odd that it was marketed as having a rail. If I was going to put an optic on it, I would have to put something traditional on it, and that is a whole other very expensive kettle of fish from what I've been told.

So... There's a Chinese MAK-90 at my local gun store for $750.
It has surface rust "powder" all up in the bolt carrier and shit, but not clumps of rust. It has heavier rust on the end of the barrel because some fucker wrapped leather around the end of the barrel, presumably for le meme tribal gun look.
Barrel itself looks pristine, but the fucks won't let me look at the trigger components.
It's got pre-ban Chinese furniture on it (no bunghole stock) and seems to be in fantastic shape other than that rust.

I honestly think the rust could be removed with some elbow grease, and I'm not really worried about pitting that much. I believe Chinese gas tubes were chromed, so that shouldn't be in bad shape either.

If I got it, I could save myself a ton of money, because I want a Chinese AK anyhow. I could save myself a solid $300 or more, and spend the money I otherwise would be spending on a stock set on ammo instead.
Comes with a Chinese spineless mag.

What do?

>>
>>30620560
This is what I've been saying. My brother, who is also heavily into firearms, suggest that I shouldn't due to the rust. But I think that saving almost $400-$500 is worth some finish loss and minor pitting on the outer barrel. I start work again on the 25th. I think I'mma just fucking do it.
>>
>>30620550
>the fucks won't let me look at the trigger components.
I would not buy it on these grounds alone. Fuck brick&mortar gun stores and their retarded policies.
>>
>>30620301
Yeah you can. It'll be awkward compressing the hinge downwards to fold to the right but it's possible.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to shoot with it folded unless you set the stock to be in the lowest set of holes and I'm not even sure then you'll clear the charging handle.

That certainly does look like a gas piston. I wonder if he stole it from the trunk on a vehicle or what.
The psl has something like that built into the pad too, but with actual springs, not inert gas springs.
>>
>>30620612
Initially, that's exactly how I reacted. In response to me asking to take the dust cover off to take a look inside, because of the rust, the guy told me that "The last guy who took stuff apart took it apart so bad that I had to go into the back, and I spent hours trying to put it back together."

I said that I understood how to disassemble the entire rifle, but that I only wanted to remove the dust cover.
He replied with "That's what the last guy, said. Sorry."

I handed him the rifle, walked out, called them back, and got on the phone with the guy. Didn't want to escalate things there and get kicked out or some shit.
I basically said that I think it's bullshit that they would sell rusty guns and not even oblige a customer ON THEIR OWN by taking a dust cover off or something.

The guy actually fucking told me that they have a bad AC system (in Florida: Humidity Central), and later in the conversation said that they keep guns rusty because they like to show wear and "be honest about the guns condition."

I didn't go back there for many months, and the AK is still there and has just gotten more rusty. Buuuut it's a Norinco with the nice rollmark in front of the magazine well, trigger is like butter, etc.

And the fucker at my other local gun store has five fucking pre-ban Norinco's in the back that he won't sell to anyone, and a National Match that he will let people hold, but will not sell.

Fucking gun store owners, sometimes...
>>
>>30620931
What, so he wouldn't even take it apart for you? Is he not capable of field stripping a fucking AK? And on top of that he's never heard of a dehumidifier? This entire story is just making me angry, if it were me I would just let the fucker sit there in his ignorance and rust and hopefully go out of business eventually.

Also, there's a good chance the inside of the receiver is full of rust, especially around the receiver rails. The entire story about fucking it up is probably just a cover to keep you from disassembling it and seeing the rust inside. I can't imagine any way you could fuck up reassembling an AK so bad that it would take hours to fix unless you were an actual retard.

Chink AKs are blued so they're particularly prone to rust. $750 too much for a rusted ass Chinese AK that originally cost like $200 and is being sold by some jackass who willingly lets his inventory rust on him.

The CRs have problems, not FRs. And it seems the earlier ones are the worst. It's mostly gas system related.
>>
Anyone have experience with JRA rifles?
>>
>>30621118
Right, he wouldn't even take the dust cover off for me. He either knew nothing at all about an AK or wanted to conceal something from me. And that's why I haven't bought it. Very fucking weird honestly.

I'll take your advice. I really wouldn't want rust problems where it counts, and apparently I wouldn't be able to find out until I dumped the money. I still want a Chink AK but it's just difficult finding them for the right price sometimes. And it is for that reason that I have considered just going with something cheaper for the time being to branch into the AK game.

I guess my thing with Chinese AK's is that I know that if they are in good shape I can trust them. And I guess that because I'm not particularly seasoned in the really tiny details of what problems to look for on an AK before purchasing, I naturally feel more comfortable going for the more expensive Chinese stuff because generally they were made very well.

In addition, chrome lining is kind of huge for me because an AK would probably serve as a potential SHTF gun if something -did- happen, and being in Florida makes corrosion resistance for the barrel kind of a big deal for me.
>>
>>30620726
Buy a Draco pistol and get an arm brace for it, aside the brace you'll be getting a 100% Romanian pistol. Aside from AK pistols, all AK's in the US that aren't pre-89 will have US made parts except for sporters. If you mean one that isn't 100% US made, then most imported AK's with US made parts for compliance are miles ahead of others.

I posted in your thread. That thread was up for like a month

Since then I've dropped the bivy and thermarest and switched to a hammock setup. Disappointing that it's about the same weight and bulk, but infinitely more comfortable sleeping. Having an actual good night's sleep on the second day and all following days makes such a huge difference in how I feel. I -can- sleep on the ground, but I sleep so good in the hammock that I actually risk oversleeping.

I'm going /out/ this weekend, almost 4000' elevation gain through burr country, I would bring muh krinker but the trail terminates in a state park and you're not supposed to have guns in a state park so I'll just bring my Glock instead and hide it once I get into the park.

It wouldn't be difficult for a company in the US to set up shop and start producing consistently good AKs using correct spec parts (CHF chrome lined barrels, no cast trunnions) and even improved materials the way they have with ARs.

It would, however, be INCREDIBLY expensive to do this and they'd probably go out of business within a year.

2. Never point gun at something you don't intend to shoot
3.Always know whats behind the target you are shooting
4. Fuck I forgot

Was thinking either AK or AR but decided with the AK just because of the reliability

The Romanian drums are not polymer. Only the Promag drums are polymer.

Get this. Enjoy drum. It's a little awkward to shoot with because your left arm has to bend a little around it, but it's fun if you don't mind the $20 to dump it.

That's a PPS-43 stock attached, the Norks have an AK with a overfolding stock too.

>>30625975
I picked up a couple of these on sale a while back for $90

>>30626035
Broooo, sup?
>>
>>30626718
I'll just wait for them to go back on sale

Not much dude. I almost went through with an MG-42/M53 build recently; I was going to buy a Royal Tiger MG-3 kit but the receiver is SO fucked from what I can tell that I don't think it's worth it. Good price but it looks like the receiver is totally butchered.
>>
>>30626774
Yeah, they got demilied twice, once by the Germans then again for US import... If you want a completely reweldable receiver mg34.com has cut m53 kits with all the sections.

>tfw I want a MG3 but all the cheap .308 barrels dried up
>>
>>30626816
Are they cut through any hard to repair areas? It would be tits to have but I imagine 8mm isn't the most available round out there. My buddy bought a DPM kit for like $350, receiver is super easily rewelded and that is tempting as well (seller is promising barrels soon) but 54r is pretty dried up and pricey now too...

The lack of 308 barrels is discouraging for sure.
>bought wolf 308 for $.35 a round w/free shipping on LAXammo last month
>only bought 120 rounds.
Fuck me
>>
>>30626880
Got 2000 8mm m75 sniper ammo dated 1990-93 2 900 rnd crates and some boxes I'd sell for 1600.
>>
>>30626718
Hey man, thanks for the info on the stock

Any ideas on how to install something like that?
>>
>>30626313
Tell us again how WASRs have """"pencil"""" barrels friend.
>>
>>30626880
Nope, nice thing about the mg42-m53-mg3 is the whole rear section is pretty much just a guide for the bolt. You can always keep an eye out for a .308 barrel and swap calibers (now $300-400 not $130ish anymore) who's making DPM barrels? RoyalTiger has good DP kits

>>30626927
You'd have to make an adapter, bet I could crank one out in a couple hours but don't have an AK with a standard rear trunnion. (Only yugos and sidefolders)
>>
>>30627154
There is a seller on gunbroker with two parts kit listed at a time, he says he is going to be having barrels soon though to be fair who knows.

On that note, are there any aftermarket Beryl-style rails like that? I want one for if/when I decide to tacticool my Tantal.

Like American made AKs with cast trunnions, soft metal high wear parts, shitty rivet jobs and not a single CHF chrome lined barrel in sight?

He's just sentimental virtue signaling that he is a patriotic murican. Nothing to do with AKs. Keep responding he'll go on about "having a job", and "supporting our troops" and so on

>>30630105
Have to keep in mind the potency of American marketing. He internalizes the products he buys, especially rifles. His AR is a deep virtue signal to the power structure that he is a worthwhile cog

Genuinely good rifles if you switch the bolt carrier. The factory one has lightening cuts which compromises its integrity and someone here reported theirs shearing at the cut somewhere around ~6000rnds. Otherwise they're solid.

N-paps are meh tier. They're alright, but the AKOU says don't drop em unless you want jams. Save up some more money and go for a DDI. They're exactly what you're looking for if you want an AK.

Is that literally wood impregnated plastic like the vz stocks?
>>
>>30631531
I originally thought it was fiberglass, but after comparing it to your pic there, it looks really similar, which makes me wonder if it actually is plant fiber. I really don't know now, I'll have to look closer when I get home. The general consensus in the past has been that these are glass impregnated though.
