The garand was a semi automatic and used smaller bullets, it was an assault rifle just without the full auto stuff

It's ".3006"

Surprisingly, it hit dead center on the first shot. Didnt slam fire. Didnt ftf/fte. Recoil was manageable with little muzzle climb.

For c308s getting knocked around for its price tag, it shot pretty good. Sure there are better guns out there, but for what it's worth, ran like a champ. Sure they had a bad run and all that giving them bad reputations but theyve really upped their game and put an effort in.

Kek that fal rear sight post got my under the eyebrow and it lightly bled for most of the 2 hours. Good shit.

>>30553483
Hope your rifle works out man. Give it a good cleaning and break her in.
>>
>>30560339
No consensus
The .308 ones are better made than dpms 223 models. They have come out with a Hodge podge of standards for their rail heights. The quality is generally going to be acceptable, I'm not sure what your view of them aesthetically is but to me they are some of the ugliest ARs in existence.

You can expect the barrel to be so so with most likely an inappropriately short gas port location, 2ish moa, and most likely a desire to change the furniture

Youve seen nothing negative about a ptr? youve clearly not looked.

DSA is made in USA. Both are currently made. They were designed at the like same time, right after WW2, like right after.

If you want a newer design, save up for a SCAR, $2675 will get you one. Or poorfag it up and get an AR-10

OK, is your PTR trigger like a kind-of 2 stage trigger, with a bit of take-up before it breaks? Because when I was shooting skeletor's C308 today, I noticed that his trigger was actually a bit more comfortable than the single-stage dealio on my FAL (not to mention the reset was pretty nice).

Now, I love the FAL trigger and all, but having learned to shoot on a K31 and a M39, a trigger with take up feels a lot more natural to me.

It might be because
A) I am a weak bitch, or
B) I am used to the FAL's mechanical crispness,
but it took a surprising amount of effort for me to get the C308's trigger to move in the first place. It was smooth and not gritty at all, but it seemed like there was a sort of very visceral threshold that you had to pass to get it to move, not at all like other 2-stage triggers I've used.

Imo shot better than anon's FAL. Nice liner back push recoil, accurate, easy enought to maintain and operate. Shot 50 rounds without any failure. From now on its only moving up in purchases for me anyways.

The real question is why are you so hostile over a cheap and decent firearm? Is it massive buyers regret? Every weapon platform has its quirks, either learn to work around them or line them out entirely by modifying or replacing parts.

Investments in stocks and bonds....
Right now is a terrible time to get into the market. Not to mention if you can only afford a PTR or C308, you should be investing in yourself. Get some skills, get a suit for interviews, etc.

If you want a cheap battle rifle, and your on a fairly meager budget, get a .308 AR.

It requires more specialized tools than an AR does, but the only really hard parts are screwing the barrel and adding the gas block and gas tube to the upper receiver. For that you need some nice vices, a receiver wrench, and a decent amount of patience.

Aside from that? The next hardest part is the buttstock, but only if you have a fixed one (fixed stock requires some extra tools for assembly).

However, assuming you have a parts kit with the lower already together, then the rest is just Legos.

Check this link out for reference, I might have missed some shit, it's been a while since I read him.
http://www.cruffler.com/trivia-April01-background.html

Also check out thus video from DSA where they convert an SA58 to an OSW. They make barrel swapping seem so easy ;)

The people loves him, he is received as a rock star on the airports and cities he goes.

>>
>>30579574
Charging handle of CETME is not attached to bolt carrier, so that's no concern.

Do you mean your bolt is stuck at the rear of the receiver even with the charging handle forward?
>>
>>30579922
Yes. Charging handle was sloppy in its forward and backward movement. Bolt was pushed to the rear of receiver after discharging last round and moved to rear of ejection port.

Even if I pushed it forward or charged it backwards it had no relation to the actual bolt.
>>
>>30579955
>Even if I pushed it forward or charged it backwards it had no relation to the actual bolt.
Like I said; it's not physically connected to the BCG; it doesn't reciprocate.

If your BCG is stuck in the rear of the receiver your return spring assembly may have failed and the spring may have come out the front of the carrier's tube.
>>
>>30579982
Pulled off butt stock already and there was no visible damage to the return spring.

Got to shoot my PTR for the first time (And first battle rifle), got 2 things I want to ask about though

I picked up a used red dot sight from an LGS (pic related) and used it with said PTR since I couldn't see through the rear sight for shit, and my eyes. Had some problems with it changing reticle+brightness every time I fired, but even so I got the best grouping I've ever had with the first 20 shots. Are these things inherently more accurate than the average rifle, or did having an optic where I didn't have to fight double vision really help that much? It just seems insane that with a no magnification red dot that I was struggling to keep on I managed to get a tighter grouping at 50 yards than with my scoped AR-15, scoped Mossberg .243 durr rifle, and garage-built AK

Secondly, how do other anons deal with the fucking heat from these things? The smoke coming off the thing was impressive, but after 20 shots I couldn't touch the handguard, after another 20 I couldn't touch anything farther than the end of the trigger housing, and I probably ended up looking like a loon when the range was shut down and I was carrying this massive rifle at arm's length by the sling and stock only to not get burned. Plus it left scorch marks where the barrel touched the sandbags and the foam inside my rifle case partially melted to the damn thing.

All in all, can't wait to shoot it again once I figure some other shit out and get a longer stock or something

>Are these things inherently more accurate than the average rifle
No; they're infantry rifles expected to shoot 2-4MOA at best. Just because some can do better doesn't mean it was intended in the design.
>I managed to get a tighter grouping at 50 yards than with my scoped AR-15, scoped Mossberg .243 durr rifle, and garage-built AK
Maybe it just fits your body better than those other rifles. Or you've just been practicing.

>>30582936
>Secondly, how do other anons deal with the fucking heat from these things?
Wide forearm has a larger heat shield and puts your hand further from it; makes heat much more manageable. The slim guard is not good for sustained fire except when below freezing; in the summer it's practically worthless.
>>
>>30582990
Doubt it's from practice, work's been busy so this is actually my first range trip in 3 months.
I'm going to stick with the sight being a godsend, once I tweak it a bit and get another Sunday afternoon off I'll try it out on my AR/finish mounting my AK side rail and see where it gets me.

As for the heat, it probably didn't help that it was already 96F before I started shooting, I'll look into getting a hold of a wide forearm too.
