So what's the deal with Hungarian AKs? They're pretty cheap. How are they are as far as quality and reliability are concerned?
>>
So what's better, Wolf or Golden Tiger?

I can get wolf for a little cheaper, but I've heard bad things about it
>>
how does one go about building an AK from a parts kit? Can I buy the receiver at a gun store?

Golden Tiger>Tulammo>Wolf

That being said, your rifle is an AK and will fire whatever you load it up with. Just make sure to clean and lube after and you'll be fine.
>>
>>30286585
Golden Tiger is WAY better in my opinion, noticed parts were less dirty than with wolf also more accurate. Laquer coating and sealed is a plus too
>>
>>30286833
Kits can be sold anywhere. You'll have the biggest selection online. Apex gun parts and Atlantic firearms are a good place to start
>>
>>30286833
1. typically gunstores will not have ak receivers b/c building one is much more difficult than putting togeather an ar

2. youll need a 12 or 20 ton shop press, rivet crushing tools, barrel pressing tool, headpace gauges, a spot welder, if you get an 80% lower chances are youll need a bending die, then a MAP gas torch to heat treat the FCG holes.
TL:dr its a lot of fucking work

Anybody go through the process of custom building their AK?

I don't have enough money to buy a good quality one all at once right now, so a custom build sounds like a reasonable choice for me.

Overall, does a custom build cost more or less than a recognized brand (depending on parts of course)? Is there a babby's first guide to choosing parts and such? I should be able to just order the parts to my doorstep right?

Anybody help me out through this process please?

First time buyer here. Trying to make a choice but genuinely curious as to why theres a lot of distaste for american made AK's.

Very uneducated on long rifles in general, but I was just browsing the catalog at the kalashnikov usa website and really liked to look of the classic wood model. Whats the issue so I can make an informed decision.
Thanks in advance
>>
>>30293686
>genuinely curious as to why theres a lot of distaste for american made AK's.
The only two brands that are out there have cast bolts and trunnions, which is not okay.
>>
>>30293686
AKs are a little more labor intensive to build than ARs at non gov't factory scale levels. Smaller companies cut corners to keep costs down and the result is shit rifles.

Some other things at play too, but thats the quick and simple
>>
>>30293699
Pls tell me why! I'm just a shotgun and revolver guy and I have Zero knowledge with rifles or the deep intricacies with guns in general.
>>
>>30293723
Cast can be as good as forged, but needs high attention paid to QA/QC procedures. The companies at hand do not have those procedures even on the basic stuff.

Are the Polish Tantal 74s good? Does anyone still sell them? Any other good sub 1k 74s?
>>
>>30293736
>Are the Polish Tantal 74s good?
Tantals are great, Century's Tantal builds are very hit or miss like the vast majority of Century's builds.
>Does anyone still sell them?
No, you're going to have to either buy used or have someone build you a kit
>Any other good sub 1k 74s?
No, just save an extra $200 for an SLR104 which is the best 74 on the market for the money.
>>
>>30293723
Think of it like this.
>you have liquid metal
>you put it in a mold
>it cool down
Now molecularly, you don't have the same density and strength/structure to the material. Even when you heat treat it, it will have a weaker structure. The alternative is usually a bolt and trunnion milled from a billet of steel or a forged billet of steel, you have denser and structurally stronger material that is less likely to have microfractures or wear unnecessarily quick.

sorry brah I'm strapped for cash. Being on here just makes me want to buy guns and I can only afford 1 or 2.

I think the AK is mechanically superior to the AR but I'm worried about scarcity of ammo and replacement parts in the US if shit ever hit the fan. The AR is much more accurate from what I've seen.

I'd like to have both.
>>
>>30293805
Btw, when we say "American made" that usually refers to 100% American made guns. Guns that are professional built off of parts kits (demilled military AK's) are fine as are rifles that come in as sporters and get de-sporterized.
>>

>I think the AK is mechanically superior to the AR
Not really.
>but I'm worried about scarcity of ammo and replacement parts in the US if shit ever hit the fan.
7.62x39 is everywhere, the only parts you have to worry about wearing out under 20,000+ rounds might be the springs, the firing pin, and *possibly* the bolt.
>The AR is much more accurate from what I've seen.
Marginally, a decently built AK will shoot 2-3 MOA at 100 yards and a comparable AR will shoot 1.5-2.5 MOA similarly. 7.62x39 just drops off faster, about 350-400 yards, than does 5.56x45, however people have still hit mansize targets out to 500 yards with 7.62x39.
>I'd like to have both.

It's the similar thing on the auto world. Forged internals (pistons, rods, crankshaft) are used in high performance street cars and race cars. They're expensive as hell compared cast parts, but they are not only stronger, they are more resistant to heat warping due to hard driving.

Cast parts would crack in a racing engine while forged internals could outlast a cast iron block block.

>>
>>30301665
Yeah, it's a really good deal, you could probably sell it for a quick $850, more if you're willing to wait.

20's are slightly less desirable than 21's because the gas block doesn't have the accessory lug and the FSB is Bulgarian instead of Russian. So, effectively no difference, unless you have a grenade launcher you were planning on mounting.

That's just a muzzle nut, it's simply there to protect the threads, it doesn't do anything. Find a 7.62 AK-74 style muzzle brake and replace it. If you can't get it to screw off, then it's probably welded in place and you got one of the ban-compliant SGLs, in which case there's probably a small weld somewhere which needs to be broken.
>>
>>30301735

The Pap slap isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be- but then again this is one of the new-er production Npaps so it probably has a few problems fixed that the Npaps before it had. Not really that difficult at all (unless I'm misunderstanding the question) after popping the butt-stock plate out it's just using a ratchet to remove the long bolt from the stock that connects to the receiver and bam, just wiggle the stock out and you're golden.

I have one. I love it, it's my go-to rifle. Very accurate, very reliable. Akfiles has a few threads about them, the unreliable ones seem to be some of the early ones with certain serial prefixes. A lot of them had feeding issues simply because the feed ramps weren't there or big enough on the breach face. Magazines are a bit pricy but most are of good quality, esp Bulgarian Circle 10.

What's the difference in quality again between Tula and Iz? I have a few 5.56 guides I'm determined to make work and ordered a Tula plum to try out. My Beryls still aren't in from Poland :'(
>>
>>30306391
Ill keep an eye out for one for you on the files and local. If i see one ill hit you up on fb.
>>
>>30306399
If I recall there is not much of a difference, Tulas go for more because of the star imo.
>I am no expert tho

Also, I want your rifle. Fuck man... Tell about it. How do you like it? How much did you pay? I want a new fancy ak from the Radom factory.
>>
>>30306507
I assumed you were getting your parts from the polish guy on akfiles. That's where I ordered the mags from. Fence is his name on there.

They are banned from import legally, individuals illegally buying them from overseas will slowly allow them to show up.

Does that function well with a slant brake? I thought you needed a booster at that length.

Tula was a smaller plant the general premium is slightly more on tula vs izhmash, Tula bakes are more uncommon the izhmash ones.

I love it. I only paid about $750 for it. FB Radom is trying to import more beryls but the ATF is fucking them over.

>>30306518
Nah I just got it from robertrtg since I also ordered a port buffer for my PTR. I did get a beryl mag from some website that I can't remember at the moment.

Palmetto had pre barreled receivers so that one of the harder parts would be done. But they have been out of stock for a long time and I never talked to anyone who used them.
>>
>>30306556
Lucky bastard. I really need one in my life. I'm considering selling my WASR and something else and then try to hunt one down.

>>30306533
I know some guy who apparently gets parts in Russia on the regular. Maybe he can get a few. What are they worth at the moment?

You need a permit to purchase, basically a redundant background check that's good for infinite gun purchases till it expires.
