Yes. The router is actually built for side loading- while drill presses are not. In an HS shop class a few years back, I saw someone sideload a drillpress on oak, and they sent the chuck flying (it ended up denting and chipping a 2x4 in the back of the room).

While this probably wont happen to you, it can; and even if it doesnt, it's bad for the drillpress, and its bearings. You should take care of your tools. Plus, you can buy a decent router on craigslist for like 30-40 bucks.

I could. The ACT seemed more consistent. The regular one felt just like the ACT 3/4 of the time, but that 1/4 it had some creep to it. The ACT is only $20 more.

It's pretty nice. Better eye relief than the TA31 at the price of less magnification, but in my opinion I prefer x3 to x4. I've taken it out as far as 400-500m and it's held up pretty damn well at that range. If I had the choice between a TA31 and a TA33, I'd probably go with the TA33 all over again.

I need to go a bit more Gucci, like getting a Bobro mount for the TA02. I also need to swap out the flash hider for a SilencerCo one once my Saker is out of NFA jail.

But thanks. I try to make my rifles aesthetic and functional. Even the lightweight build I'm doing right now.

Why would you buy them? Only reason I can think of is to create a clone of a military rifle. If you aren't going to use the military features though there's no reason to use a military barrel (such as under barrel attachment divet).
>>
>>30181172

>>
>>30181433
You're right, it's a steel tip, technically not steel core. It's also not a hardened penetrator hence its dubious AP capability. That being said some ranges don't give a fuck and will give you hard time either way.

It's not nearly as cheap as XM193 though, to say nothing of steelcase .223. M855 is just a stupid ammo decision all the way around these days, there are better performing rounds that are cheaper, readily available. Not a single excuse for using M855 for plinking (or anything) holds up anymore.

I generally agree but the higher velocity of M193 makes it hell on steel targets up close, whereas you can shoot steel with M855 at 25-50 yards no real problems. Or I guess you could buy a case of frang, if you buy 1000 rounds at a time it gets close to 40c per round.

I'm the anon that was asking about the green tip ammo earlier. It was the cheapest ammo at the time so that was what I got. It was 1,000 rounds for about $200, and that's about as good as it gets around here. My town has two stores that sell ammo, one is a gun shop that sells lower volumes and generally charges more, and the other is a department store called Bi-Mart. That's where I usually go to get ammo since they have better deals.

Well, I pretty much exclusively use wolf .223 for plinking steel anyway, but I do it as close as 30 yards and don't give any fucks. It's my steel that I got on sale though, so whatever.

No real damage except for the spot where my super intelligent friend decided to shoot it with his AK pistol from 20 yards.

It's a green horseshoe. The furthest out I've shot is somewhere between 400-500m and it's easy shooting man-shaped steel targets at that distance. You're not going to be ringing a dueling tree at that distance (at least not very well, maybe 3/5ths of my shots landed on a dueling tree plate at that distance), but it'll work fine on properly sized targets.

Just an FYI the line is brake the bread that is his body and drink the wine. In it's original was a poetic way of saying crucify and kill him. It was literally meant to say every time you get together and eat you should remember that someone has paid the ultimate price so you can be forgiven. So that what ever bad thing you have done you can still move forward and do good things. Hebrew and English don't translate well.

adherents literally view the wine and crackers as the blood and flesh of Jesus after the priest does his voodoo chant to it, which is why traditionally people receiving communion are not allowed to touch it. If it falls on the floor they have to go through a big ordeal to clean the floor and reclaim the cracker.

To be a devout Christian is to believe that you are eating Jesus.

This came up in another thread and I would like to ask it here. Been a pistol shooter for years, recently purchased an AR. Note I did tear down and clean the shit out of it before and after this happened and it happened consistently.

Went to the range. Noticed that if I chambered a round and then ejected it, there is a noticeable dent in the primer. To me, it does not appear to be inflicted by ejection. To me, the primer looks like it was impacted lightly by the firing pin.

I have friends who are gunsmiths, also ex combat arms dudes, lots of AR enthusiasts. The jury is split between the people I have asked. Some AR guys were confused by what I told them, and said "doesn't happen in my AR." Several people told this does not happen in a quality AR that is properly maintained. Some people said that it is normal for ARs.

Being totally new to ARs I was alarmed that there was any contact between the firing pin and the primer without my pulling the trigger. What is /arg/'s verdict?
>>
>>30182706
I don't think he has an ar
>>
Asking again:
Slowly but slowly putting my kit together. 3000 rounds of Armscor hit the doorstep the morning.
A few questions: Should I wait to buy more parts around the 4th of july - are there decent sales then? (IE does the SSA-E drop to $180 like it does on memorial day?)

Also, where's a decent place to pick up a toolcraft BCG?
>>
>>30182752
I've never ever seen that before.
What brand gun?
What ammo?
What brand BCG?
Was it sometimes or every time?
Did you put the little pin for the firing pin in correctly?

S&W M&P15 Sport, every kind of ammo I fed it, every single round I chambered. Kept cleaning everything to make sure the firing pin was floating freely, and it was.

No longer have pictures, happened a while back. Sold the piece of shit immediately to gunsmith friend and vowed that to be my first and last purchase of a S&W firearm.

>>
>>30182818
Wow, I'm sorry that happened with S&W. My M&P 15 has never ever done that.
Shit, I'll go chamber the same round 15 times over just to make the point.
>>
So, most of you are telling me that by design, this is normal for an AR and it is safe? Really, what the fuck. Why are others adamant that this is not right? Present your case.
>>
>>30182247
What are you going to do about your MAMS?
>>
>>30182818
>Don't all ARs have free floating firing pins?
They do, when you chamber a round the inertia of the bcg moving forward under spring pressure causes the firing pin to move forward when the bcg stops moving. Live only having one tennis ball in the tube and jerking the tube forward: the ball will stay to the rear until the tube jerks to a stop, the the ball flies forward. At no point does the hammer ever come up or contact the firing pin, so everything is a-ok with your gun. Although some folks retire rounds after a few dents, say 5.
>>
>>30182752
>When the same cartridge is repeatedly chambered in the AR15, the floating firing pin lightly taps the primer; with repeated taps, the primer compound gets crushed, resulting in inadequate ignition characteristics--despite what appears to be a normal firing pin impression.

This is from https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?4344-5-56-mm-Duty-Loads

AR15's have free floating firing pins (minus the HK416 which apparently doesn't). ARs aren't really drop safe either, if you slam a hot AR the right way with ammo you can cause it to discharge. Not very likely at all but has happened before.
>>
>>30182867
The potential safety issue is if the pin goes too far or hard while chambering the gun could go off and possibly KB
>>

You're obviously new. The ar15 has a floating firing pin. It slides back and forth inside the bolt carrier, when the bolt slams forward it kisses the primer

That's why you need to point the rifle in a safe direction when you chamber around . You could have what's called a slam fire which is when the floating firing pin kisses the round a little too much and fires off the casing

I noticed that the pin is visible through the indexing hole on the bottom of the MAMS, so I'm sure that'll fuck any possibility of mounting a suppressor, but I've emailed KAC to make sure first. If it doesn't, I'll have a professional shop fix the finish and smooth out the terrible welding job and then never do anything with that shitshow of a shop again.
