Am I dumb for putting a magpul moe fixed A2 stock on an ar10 rather than a luthar mba-1 to save some weight?

Ideal uses would be 95% bench shooting and hopefully 5% hunting.

5.56mm Lo-Pro Gas Block Barrel

CHF Chrome Lined Barrel -556 & 300BLK

--1 in 7" twist

--Extended feed ramps
--Manganese Phosphate finish
--Gas tube
--Pinned Low Profile Gas Block, .750 -14.5" SCLP .625 Gas Block
--1/2x28 = 5.56 - 5/8x24 = 300BLK
--Light Contour

Our chrome lined barrels are cold hammered forged and made with the material callouts and manufacturing process for the M249 Machine Gun barrel.

The cold hammer forging process work hardens the steel around a rifled mandrel, which creates the lands and grooves. The barrel is then chrome lined to the spec for a M249 Machine Gun barrel, which is about twice as thick as that of an M4 barrel. The end result is a rifle that can be run hard day after day. For any high round count, high temperature, heavy shooting, we recommend our chrome lined barrel.

Order more than $20,000 worth of shit from them in one go.

I guess they didn't realize I was an "authorized dealer" and that I'd set it up with Bill Geissele himself at an NRA show.

The swag even came in a separate box parcel-post, instead of freight on a pallet like my order. And was addressed to me personally, instead of the business I was ordering for.

>>
>>30174407
>Im gonna need two hands for this
>>
>>30176376
Someone could probably speak to this better than I can, only have mid gas, but for carbine buffer you could go with carbine, H, or maybe H2. Rule of thumb is something like, "Use the heaviest buffer that can cycle the weakest ammo you'll use without issue." As far as stock, I have the bottom rung Magpul MOE and it's not bad, but wouldn't mind something with a bit more material for cheek weld.

What are the differences between the various lower receivers? Aren't they all just milled aluminum?
>>

Nearly all of the forged lower bases come from the same 3-5 suppliers and the specs of the milling out process is known to everyone and their fucking dog by this point. Some are fully ambi, but other than that, a lower is a lower is a lower. Billet lowers are gucci status and gucci status only.

>what's that stamp thing on the front of the magwell?
Department of Defense acceptance stamp. Officially, all of the ARs were supposed to have them during 'Nam, but it wasn't done all the time, and the stamps themselves aren't even embedded in the lower, it's just a white paint mark applied with a rubber stamp. Naturally, that's not going to weather well in a damp shithole like Vietnam, especially coupled with actual use, so you don't see them often in pictures. They varied in location, some being on the front of the magwell, some being on the left or right side.Size even fluctuated. Pretty much another instance of zero consistency with 'Nam-era ARs.
>what was more prevalent through most of the Vietnam war, canvas or nylon slings
I've seen canvas more often than nylon, so that's what I went with. plus it just looks better.

It's fine for anything and everything. The upper makes all the difference.

>barrel

Are things you shouldn't cheap out on.
But if you're really short on money, a GI trigger after a garage trigger job, a milspec parkerized BCG and a basic FF handguard from a non-shit company will all be cheap and do everything you need them to do, and will allow you to spend more on a decent barrel and optic.

I wanted a canvas sling over nylon, but couldn't find one, actually I was pretty lucky even just to find a nylon one in good shape.
But it's grown on me, what with how slick and pliable the nylon is. I got to handle a canvas one and it just seemed too thick and stiff.

I think some aged poorly and turned into nearly unworkable pieces of shit as a result. My initial canvas sling (seen here) with a sexy brass tab was so thick I had to use a fucking vise to close the adjustment tab. After putting up with that bullshit for a year, I got another one to see if that'd solve the problem. It didn't have the brass tab, but it did adjust easily. I'd be on the lookout for a better canvas, though I have no idea how many swelled up like that.

>>30177240
Yes, eye relief is basically your eye box or exit pupil in other words. As you increase magnification you decrease the size of the eye box, this is one of the big reasons not many scopes are made with magnification past 20x, on a cheap scope the eye box gets down to one millimeter or less at that type of power and quickly becomes unusable for our own eyes let alone a cameraa.
You can measure eye box by taking a piece of paper and holding it behind the eyepiece, the little dot of light is the eyebox/exit pupil.

Anybody here have a motorcycle? It's probably impossible, but I want to figure out a way to carry my rifle in a bag I have with a sling in addition to my backpack full of ammo/pistol/targets to the range. I have my CHL so carrying a weapon concealed on my person is not an issue, aside from trying to figure out how to make that all work while on a motorcycle.

My truck has a coolant leak so until I fix that hose I can't really go to the range at all. My truck also gets about 8 MPG whereas my bike gets like 70, so there's definitely a financial reason since the range is 18 miles away.

Make sure you're looking at the hardness/type of aluminum. It's up to you what you want to get but I've seen them in 6061 and 7075. 6061 is softer so it's easier to do the machining on but that also means it's softer all around.

There are different jigs. Like if you only have a drill press there's jigs for that or if you have a router and a drill there's jigs for that. Though I highly recommend having a drill press in either case.

If you're doing the router version, probably get an extra end mill bit. As me and TRUMPtrip have both seen, the bits come out of the router during use and may chip.

Bikefag here again. I just want to add that although I have never done it, I can see the merit to riding between lanes SLOWLY IN FIRST GEAR at a stop light to get to the front of the queue as long as there is sufficient space to do so. Studies have shown that it's actually safer for the motorcyclists to do that because they're less likely to be rear-ended, which actually happens quite a bit and can cause serious injury on a bike. Either way, not legal in my state so I've never done it, and I've never felt the need to do it.

While traffic is moving such as on a highway riding between lanes is completely stupid though.

>hey, they're cutting!

But 90% of the people who do it at red lights will also do it at 80+mph on the highways, or worse splitting lanes at twice the speed limit in town.

I have, personally, lost 2 driver's-side mirrors to lane-splitters because they misjudged trying to squeeze through a gap less than 2 feet wide at 90+ mph on a 70mph interstate. One guy ended up ditching his bike after he lost control, swerved/skidded across 4 lanes of traffic (miraculously not ending up under anyone), and ending up in the ditch. I think he was relatively okay though, he had full gear on and was able to at least sit up afterwards.

>why people hate sport bikes and their riders
-extremely, annoyingly and (depending on aftermarket) painfully loud, even at a distance through a well-insulated house or car

-shithead riders seem to be the norm (even the ones that don't blatantly act like thugs, since the majority of them speed in excess of 20mph over); whereas shithead drivers are the exception.

-accidents involving sport bikes do almost as much total damage (both lives and dollar amount) as semi trucks, and nearly 3x as much as SUV's or full-size trucks. And they're far more frequent than accidents involving semi trucks.

-many sport bikes lack turn signals, some lack brake lights, almost none of the riders use hand/arm signals. Further, all their lights (including headlights) are comparatively dim and flicker badly, making distance judging at night very difficult.

Have any of you guys had any experience with Anderson's EXT forearms? I'm planning on cloning this upper for my 16" upper build. It's relatively inexpensive, coming in at like less than $120. I don't plan on putting anything on it really other than a light, front sight, and an AFG probably.
>>
>>30177964
Anderson makes good receivers and small parts, not much else.
>>
>>30177855
What's with the iron sights and optics placement? Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems like your front post would appear in your optic and your rear flip up iron can't flip up because of the optic lens. Am I missing something here? What's the plan with that setup?
>>
>>30177905
> I seriously disdain other riders who do stupid shit
Those "other riders" make up probably the majority of bikers. The vehicle is a natural draw for obnoxious assholes who can't help but be what they are.
>>
>>30177984
Really I was just putting the optic on my rifle because I had it, the FSP clears the optic and you can't see it in your field of view. I've thought about taking it off because it makes CQB basically impossible with it on
>>
>>30177984
>maybe I'm missing something
Yep. Guy who doesn't know how to build an AR "properly"
>but it seems your front post...
You really don't notice it at that level of magnification. Same deal with ACOGs and A2 FSP's.
>and your rear flip up iron can't flip up
It could if he hadn't poorfag'd himself into a non-QD mount. As it is, it's just extra weight and expense he can't utilize without at least a good pair of pliers if not an actual wrench.
>what's the plan with that setup?
Troll /arg/ and be a shitter?
>>
>>30177961
Yeah you just described the exact type of rider I fucking hate as a fellow rider. Those are the kinda guys you see riding R1s and CBR600s in cargo shorts and T-shirts and acting like a real fuckwit.

My bike (pictured earlier) has bright as fuck LED indicators, a steady headlight, and bright LED tail/brake light. I have yet to get in an accident on a bike, but I always dress for the slide not the ride. My bike is pretty loud though, so I'm sorry about that if you hate noise. Though it's no louder than my old Camaro was after I put in a crate 350 and replaced the exhaust.
>>
>>30177975
It's this from experience, or are you just shit-posting. I'd like an honest to goodness review of this hand guard if at all possible.
>>
>>30177947
Benton. Why do you not recommend the CJ degree? I'm over halfway through it and I love it so far. When I was in the military I had a sort-of law enforcement role at times and that's when I really learned I liked that kind of work, despite everybody hating you while you do your job.

Like you said, a degree is better than no degree. I plan to eventually continue education with a Bachelors, but we'll see how that goes.
>>
>>30178065
Take my statement for what it is. Another way of saying what I said: "In general and historically, Anderson has made a couple of good things. The rest of their products are the object of debate and are generally not regarded as good quality."

So no, I haven't had personal experience with that handguard. Chances are, no one else here has either. Why? Because when people want to buy handguards, they don't choose Anderson. Why? Because Anderson isn't known for making good handguards.

Critical thinking, my friend.
>>
>>30178063
There's someone in my neighborhood with a GXSR that just absolutely *loves* to go tearing up and down the 25mph main road at >100mph repeatedly from 2am to 4am 3 or 4 days a week. He's got an aftermarket exhaust, so even though I'm over half a mile from the road, it's painfully loud even inside my home.

He's wrecked it twice, to include launching it off a curb and into somebody's second-story window because he was going so fast.

He's one of those douches that rides in board shorts, a wifebeater, and flipflops, and he's covered head to toe in poorly healed road rash scars and tattoos.

The bike has no taillight or turn signals, no plates, and I'm 99% sure the guy doesn't have a driver's license much less a bike endorsement.
>>
>>30177829

everything you need to know will be taught at the academy and in fto. 80% of departments want a clean slate to train if that makes sense. With mil experience you are already golden cause you get 10 points added to your score.

For most departments a degree is just a check mark in a box but sometimes people take cj and think they know everything, that's what they don't want.

>>
>>30178162
Ah, yeah that makes sense. Well I like to keep an open mind and I'm definitely not a know-it-all just because I took some classes. Experience is the best teacher, and I hope I can express that in the interviews I'll have.

>With mil experience you are already golden cause you get 10 points added to your score.
That's cool I didn't know that was a thing they did. Is that still the case if I was honorably discharged for medical reasons? Medical reasons are no longer an issue and I could get a doctors waiver.

What does /arg/ think about 1-6x scope mounts and BUIS on guns with 1-6x mounts.

Is there any point having BUIS on a gun without a QD scope? Is there any point in BUIS at all?

Usage: Coyote hunting, SHTF, would like to get into shooting matches.
>>
>>30178337
Washington State Patrol, yes. Unless there is a Benton county somewhere outside of WA. You can look on publicsafetytesting.com and it'll tell you the requirements for each department and what disqualifiers they have.

You take the written and physical test through them and they send your scores out to each department you pick. Seattle does their own testing and I think maybe Tacoma too
>>
>>30178362
If you have a QD scope mount, sure BUIS can be neat (and possibly maybe actually useful, assuming you actually break your scope).

If you don't have a QD mount, they'd be strictly for aesthetic

CJ degrees aren't given any preference over any other degree with standard LEO hiring and its better to have an accounting degree if you want to go into federal. Anything useful you could learn from a CJ degree you are forced to do over in academy. Literally almost any 4 year degree is better than a CJ just based on the fact you could get a real job while you go through hiring which would look way better because it shows how committed you are to wanting to be a LEO.

I've only ever met one person who's been hired within 6 months out of college and he was a MP, worked 4 years of armed security while getting his degree.

Thanks for your assburger service shitanon.

so what truely brings me back, is i want to build a vietnam era STYLE AR. it is not going to be spot on.. but i have been searching high and low for a fair priced upper receiver ANYWHERE that still has a fixed carry handle. why the FUCK dont people make them anymore
>>
>>30179230
Yes, but the rubber band would have to be registered as an MG.
>>
>>30179269
i will come visit you in your castle made of stone.we shall lay our rifles upon them and rejoice
>>
>>30179272
Wait for Colts repros to come out and hope they aren't garbage.

Also do you have to remove the safety selector in order to install a trigger? I would assume so because it makes contact with the disconnect.
>>
>>30179309
no you dont. just flip the saftey to i think its" safe "and itll slide right under. and im not paying for colt, hence my own build. also, i just like to tinker.like i now tinker with rocks.

>>

good fucking luck if you're going to be a poorfag about it.
>>
>>30179339
never heard of that my main mang. ill look into it. saw a clip on a youtube vid of a guys build, and he said he threw 50 bucks and as able to get one. im looking to spend about 100.. but most ANY at ALL i can find, you gotta pay like 250, and meet a few dudes at a truck stop for some shit called a glory hole idk man
>>
>>30179289
Alright, thanks /k/
I wouldn't want my dogger to get shot :^)
I'll make sure that my rubber band makes it into the post-86 MG registry
>>
>>30179352
hey there jew lips, where does fair priced and poorfag meet? they are two different baselines
>>
>>30179330
>but any degree is better than none-pb
why haven't you kys?

>>30179323
you using a SFMB either way?
>>
>>30179378
The thing is that there aren't that many companies making forged receivers to begin with and that making them to different dimensional specs costs emone, especially when you're doing small runs. So obviously you aren't going to find a retro upper for the same price as an el-cheapo m4 style upper, it's basic supply and demand.
>>
>>30179379
yeah either way is getting a surefire brake
>>
>>30179410
what do you consider a "retro upper"? all im looking for is a stipped upper with a fixed carry handle
>>
>>30179378
"fair priced" is whatever people are willing to pay for it.
>>
>>30179414
>>30179379
oh, and qb mentioning the mlok urx4 makes my budget go straight into the trash can

A1 lower + upper + barrel assembly for $520 on Brownells.
Track down an A1 furniture set, usable ones are $100+
Rifle extension assembly $50
LPK $40 or so (and maybe get a no tick selector eventually for extra brownie points)
Wait for BCG on sale for ~$80
Rifle length gas tube $10
A1 dust cover and FA $30
A1 birdcage $10

That's about it for a Vietnam build that won't get you laughed at, I think.
If you just want to impress retards on Facebook or Reddit, get the $150 A1 upper and build whatever.

Yes. The router is actually built for side loading- while drill presses are not. In an HS shop class a few years back, I saw someone sideload a drillpress on oak, and they sent the chuck flying (it ended up denting and chipping a 2x4 in the back of the room).

While this probably wont happen to you, it can; and even if it doesnt, it's bad for the drillpress, and its bearings. You should take care of your tools. Plus, you can buy a decent router on craigslist for like 30-40 bucks.

Someday I'll own a rifled barrel, until then I guess I'm just gonna sit here and drool.
