Is there a "sweet spot" for mounting forward grips? I'm thinking right about here in the picture but I can't get out to the range to test it out for about a month.

I asked in another thread, but I'll ask here as well:

Just how picky are AR10 upper and lower receivers? Like if I were to get a Mega Arms maten lower and pair it with Aero M5 upper or some other combination? I understand the platform has a lot of compatibility problems, but how much of that applies to stripped upper and lower receivers?
I'm not going for looks, just function.

So is this the "best" placement? Not sure if there's some science behind where to place it or if I should just "wing it".

The idea is it needs to be far enough so your arm is almost fully extended. Doesn't need to go all the way up if it's uncomfortable

I do plan on getting a laser or laser/light combo at some point. I've never had a laser on a weapon before and I think it'd be a nice addition to make close quick target acquisition near instant. Flashlights on the muzzle are very nice both for home defense and allowing you to shoot at night at the range. Can't wait to get one, but broke college student right now so I've gotta be happy with what I have. Can't even afford ammo.

Seems reasonably comfortable at this distance. I can either have my elbow bent or straight at this distance. When I get a laser/light combo I'll probably move it back a notch or two. That won't be for a while though.

I may adjust it when I eventually get out to the range again, but we'll see.

Hey friendo's, having a suppression issue.

I built an M4 block 1.5 clone, it's a 14.5" Colt upper and bcg. It's got a SiCo trifecta pinned/welded on it so I can mount my Omega.

Unsupressed the thing runs like a top, beautiful. When I put the suppressor on it, it ejects like shit (casings barely tumble out) and I'll get FTF's and it's fucking my casings up.

I swapped in an old NiB bcg I had laying around and it runs a lot better. It only weighs 1/8oz more than the Colt, and the only other difference I can find is that the gas rings in this NiB are pretty well worn out, whereas the Colt bcg is brand new.

What am I experiencing here and what are some remedies to fix it? I'd really rather keep the Colt bcg in it if possible. Heavier buffer?

These are all the magazines I currently own for my AR. I've got two polymer Magpul GenM3 and one aluminum STANAG-looking magazine. I like the Magpul magazines quite a lot but the aluminum magazine just feels like trash. When you pick it up you can hear the spring inside and it sounds like the follower is loose even though it feeds fine. Additionally, you can push down one side of the follower and get it sorta stuck at an angle inside the magazine.

Is there a way to fix this so the follower doesn't tilt to one side? Or should I just give this mag to a friend and buy some more Magpul M3 magazines once I get money?

You need a H2 buffer, maybe H3. Buy a H3, because you can change the weights and figure out what works.

But Colt SOCOM 14.5 inch barrels are fielded with H2 buffers. Not much of an issue with cheap ammo, or unsuppressed.

Running a can, firing full auto, or hotter 5.56.. you'll want a heavier buffer, or you'll have bolt slap and fucked up ejection.

Yeah, I've noticed gun stores don't seem go know much about buffer weights. I had to walk out of a gun store when they told me all they have was "rifle or pistol buffers" and told me I was wrong when I tried to tell them ARs are a little more complicated than that.

They just want to carry the lightest buffers because they're half the price, and most people shoot weak .223.

What distance are you guys sighted in at snd what are you shooting off of to sight in?
>>
>>30165835
Depends on the isometric strength of your trapezius and anterior deltoid. Not even memeing, if you're stronk or have a light fore end you want your support hand farther forward and more on the side so you have more leverage to control the muzzle during recoil. If you're weak or have a heavy ass barrel you want your support hand lower and closer so you have more leverage to support the weight itself (think of the difference in difficulty between holding a heavy object close to your chest or extended at arm's length)

He isn't saying it won't kill someone. He's saying the effective range is undeniably shorter, and if you want to shoot at ranges requiring a magnified optic, you'd be better served by at least a 14.5 inch barrel.

And, I agree. Honestly, I wouldn't even be going shorter than 11.5, unless considering 300 blk (not to say 10.5 can't be reliable or kill) but I certainly wouldn't be putting a magnified optic on something that is more of a PDW than a carbine.

A reflex sight will better serve the utility of that set up, in my humble opinion.

Everything you said is true, but it's also true for my variable zoom PA optic. Doesn't need batteries for the reticle (but has them for illumination), can be used with both eyes open (as all shooting should be), and you can zoom in which really helps me at range. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be though, so your mileage may vary. It is however heavier than an ACOG.
>>
>>30169595
>"I have never owned, or operated the product I am talking about" the post.

I've owned both and besides the eye relief on the 4x ACOG, its considerably better at close quarters than any variable optic I've ever used. You can still use variables with both eyes open, as >>30169632 explains.

>>30169603
The difference is quite neglible, but yes red dots are usually better because you can mount them farther away from the eye which I feel makes them faster.

When I meant no batteries I was referring to illumination, which is 100% necessary during most lighting conditions.

My HD and SHTF guns are different, since I figure in SHTF I would be much more kitted out and plan accordingly.

HD
>bargain basement light and sight
>no sling
>emphasis on indoors use
>nothing on it I wouldn't be willing to part with in a pinch

SHTF gun
>expensive parts
>built for performance
>powerful light, emphasis on outdoors use
>various QD points for sling versatility
>camo paint job
>if I died with a rifle in my hands, I would prefer it be that one

I can shoot pretty precise with a full power rifle scope, but this is my first red dot, or any optic for that matter with illumination. This kind of makes me believe I'm just adjusting to the new kind of optic and that my groups will tighten up with trigger time, but I guess time will tell. It bothers me because today I was shooting from a bench and sighting it in, I was shooting like I was going for precision with my Remington 700 and the groups were still terrible.

It may be my ammo, I was switching between Israeli xm193 and Tula. Oh well I'll just take it out again soon with some better stuff.

>yeah, that can happen when your bolt is accelerating faster than the chamber pressure is dropping
yeah i realized this later, if the chamber pressure is too high you can have shit ejection because all the energy the bolt received to reciprocate was wasted yanking out a quasi-stuck case which would make it eject weakly.

a heavier buffer would keep the bolt up against the cartridge longer, just long enough to let the pressure drop enough to where it can get more power to cycle.

how right am i? did i figure it out?
>>
>>30169632
i'm not the one you're arguing with but, you're wrong about variable 1x-Xx scopes behaving just like a red dot. there is an eyebox on any variable scope and there isn't on red dots.

in other words it's still more restrictive as far as head movement goes. you have to treat a 1x-Xx scope just like a 42x scope as far as how you position your cranium.

with a red dot, if you can see the dot you are golden. there is no eye relief, there is no eyebox (or the horrible vignetting that occurs when you're no longer within it)
>>
>>30170260

yes

i had a crazy overgassed 7'' barrel
the ejector would slip off the rims quite regularly

ideally you want the cases to eject straight out perpendicular from the port, or a little behind
if cases are bouncing off the case deflector forward of the port it's overgassed
>>
>>30170324
Depends on the optic. With red dots, you can use the BUIS straight through the optic, eliminating the need to detach the optic at all. I can and do practice with my BUIS like that sometimes.

Yup, 3-gun is the only sport with sponsors, no other events could possibly have shirts with sponsors' logos.

>>30170376

the cheapest quickest way to fix ejection issues is to put an o-ring in the ejector

Yeah I've long since fixed that problem, turns out the barrel simply had a massively overdrilled gas port, and the gas block I was using was also drilled out generously, which obviously resulted in a fuckton of gas.

At the time I was using an upper receiver/bcg combo that had extremely tight tolerances to counteract the gas effect, and it worked somewhat.

Eventually replaced the gas block though and everything's been jolly ever since.

If you are wearing a sponsor shirt, the average bystander is not going to know whether you got that shirt doing what you are doing, or doing something else. Some will assume the former, it's just how human logic works. And if you are sponsored in something, people expect you to do it well.

And, they are becoming more quality- they rebrand and sell the BEST GI mags available (DH), they just upgraded their machine shop with several, top of the line CNC mills, and they are soon going to begin using FN barrels on their premium line of upper groups.

>i pay companies who do shitty things so they can continue to be in business and continue to do shitty things

you don't understand how markets work do you?
>>
>>30170935
I might have to move to image macros of people laughing at you for you to understand whats going on here
>>
>>30170920
We're you ordering things drunk or something?
>>
>>30170959
no? and even if i was why would it be wrong to cancel that order? literally what is your logic...?????????????????
>>
>>30170976
I wanna know why you didn't want what your ordered.
>>
>>30170843
>>30170920
well this is the first time i've seen someone complain about PSA actually shipping an order
>>
>>30170920

And the CS guy managed to get the other guys to ship it in under two minutes. They probably had the UPS guy waiting for hours on end with a barcode reader at low ready just in case you called in to cancel the order.
Man, I bet he's the fuck-people-over employee of the year.

Just kidding, you were a little bit late and now you're throwing a massive butthurt tantrum because it feels better to be mad at the evil kikes at PSA who force shipped your order than at yourself for calling in a couple of minutes too late.
>>
>>30171012
no it isn't, because if you ordered something from them and then called them as soon as they opened to cancel the fucking order you'd soon be complaining too when you get shipment notifications for it while you're on hold.

>>30171015
a little bit late? i called as soon as they opened. their faggoty spiel about shipping says PLS DONT BULLY IT TAKES US A LONG TIME 2 SHIP.

PSA is notorious for taking a long time to ship
this is fucking hilarious
>>
>>30171030
>package is already out of the building ready to ship
>anon thinks they can stop it
lmao
>>
>>30171047
>TWO INDIVIDUALLY SEPARATE shipment notifcations show up while i'm on hold

>shipped before i called

try again.
>>
>>30171059
You know those emails are automated and your package wasn't the only one loaded right? Should they dig through a truck to find yours?
>>
>>30171073
they're automated so if my package was shipped before i called then why did i get the notifications while i was on hold with him?

kek.
>>
>>30171030
>>30171059

Neat, who would have guessed that all the people waiting forever for their PSA orders to ship had to do was call in to cancel the order, and it would get packed and shipped in under 2 minutes.

>they're automated so if my package was shipped before i called then why did i get the notifications while i was on hold with him?

Anon, I know you probably think you're very special - special enough for PSA to muster up insane amounts of effort in a heartbeat to specifically fuck YOU over - but you're not exempt from coincidence.

>>30171113
>fanboy

I never ordered a single thing from them.
>>
>>30171059
you know just because you called when they "opened up" doesn't mean the warehouse guys start working right then

what an entitled little bitch you are, throwing a tantrum on an anonymous image board

>>30171113
>i guess i just have to take shipment of something i don't want
